pay the piper for the damage last winter's brutal storms inflicted on highway 17. (2-shot-catherine) kron four's rob fladeboe joins us live -- and brings us up to date on what will be aweek of repairs affecting traffic. rob? (rob live) the work is being done so it won't impact either the morning or evening commute butsouthbound traffic is going to be very slow from ten to two every day this week. lets take a look. there was no rain monday and no mud slides either. but other than that, traffic on southbound 17, just south of the summit, looked just like it did on many a day and night last winter, when the twisting mountain road was being lashed by storms. now, the slides are being cleaned up, the potholes filled and the

yet scheduled, caltrans is also planning some night work. there is a lot of damage to repair and no time to lose if the damage inflicted by last winter's storms, easily the most ever on highway 17, is to be repaired in time for the return of winter rains this fall. serious effects on physical and mental health. food banks across the bay area are stepping in to help. kron 4's philippe djegal reports on one group that's bringing food right to the door of those in need. (philippe)nats- food packing on a weekly basis, starting bright and early ...nats- "oh yeah." sandra (sahn-druh) chang and the rest of these volunteers waste no time filling bags with groceries. this group works out of the city hope community center in san francisco's tenderloin neighborhood. one of about 10 community and faith based non-profit organizations, teaming up to carry out the san francisco-marin food bank's home-delivered groceries program.andy burns/sf-marin food bank- "we deliver the food to city hope in bulk. their congregants, uh, their volunteers gather here, package the bags and then they head out on their routes to make the deliveries.' city-wide, the home- delivered grocieries program makes about 16-hundred- deliveries per week to homebound seniors and adults with disabilities... each bag includes a balance of nutritious food. pastor paul trudeau runs city hope.

walked into court with his wife camille today..he's accused of drugging and sexually assaulting a woman at his philadelphia home in 2004. the jury began deliberations - and a conviction could put cosby in prison for the rest of his life. defense attorneys argued cosby's accuser - andrea constand - was having a consensual relationship with cosby. prosecutors say she was left helpless by pills and assaulted against her will. dozens of women have come forward to say cosby had drugged and assaulted them. this is the only case to result in criminal charges. (grant) preliminary hearings began today for 18 penn state students charged in connection with a fraternity hazing death. 19-year-old, tim piazza died in february, two days after he fell down a flight of stairs - twice - during a pledge party at the beta theta pi fraternity. nearly twelve hours passed before anyone called paramedics. prosecutors showed surveillance video of

the party in the courtroom today. the video shows piazza in agony... after suffering severe stomach and head injuries from the fall. he had been taking part in a hazing ritual that involved extreme binge drinking. the fraternity members are being charged with involuntary manslaughter, aggravated assault, hazing, providing alcohol to minors and tampering with evidence. (catherine) ride- sharing company uber is continuing to have a rough ride...as now - one of the company's top executives is out.. uber says its senior vice president of business - emil michael - has left the company.he was considered a right-hand man for uber c-e-o travis kalanick. this comes after a series of scandals over the past year - forcing an investigationinto uber's culture and business practices. meantime, the new york times is reporting that the uber board is talking

about a three-month leave of absence for the c-e-o... kalanick is the one who built the start-up into a nearly 70-billion-dollar company. (grant) longtime general electric chairman and c-e-o jeff immelt is stepping down. immelt has run g-e since 2001. during his tenure, g-e sold off some of its assets, including n-b-c television and much of its financial services arm, g-e capital. he also led g-e through the 2008 global financial crisis. the company says immelt will remain g-e's chairman through the end of the year. current g-e healthcare president john flannery will replace immelt as c-e-o effective august first. another retailer is feeling the pain as shoppers move away from brick and mortar stores to buy online. the children's clothing store 'gymboree' has filed for bankruptcy. the san francisco-based company is in debt 900-million dollars. gymboree plans to continue business operations during the restructuring... and most of its 13-hundred stores will remain open. this come two months after shoe chain 'payless' filed for bankruptcy - closingmore than 400 stores. other retailers, including ann taylor, lane bryant and justice will also be shutting down several locations. (grant) obesity is becoming a real problem across the world, especially among kids. a new study says obesity has tripled in counties like china, brazil, and indonesia. it suggests these kids will increase their chances of being diabetic or having other health issues down the line. researchers

was face to face with the shark. he had my whole arm in his mouth and he was just floating there, just staring at me."tiffany said she tried to pull her arm out, but the shark clamped down and they struggled for a couple of minutes before she got away. tiffany johnson: "i kept trying to yank my hand back and the last time i yanked he had cut it clean off so i was able to actually get free,? tiffany said.james heard her screams and jumped in to help. meanwhile, tiffany said she was already praying.tiffany johnson: "i felt this tangible peace on me and it was so thick, that i was just calm. doctors in the bahamas were able to stop the bleeding, but issues with passports and customs had the johnson's stuck in the bahamas.a medevac flight to carolinas medical center would cost $16,000 out of pocket. but with no guarantees insurance would pay for it, the medevac company called and agreed to pick up the cost.he hung up the phone and we just started weeping."

( grant ) there are some theories that a wildfire can be a good thing for nature... clearing out old trees and shrubs and allowing for new growth to come in. but when it comes to our atmosphere... it is a much different story. researchers with nasa and georgia tech have made a rather alarming discovery.

fan this story might remind you of the hit t-v series. mexican federal police seized three tubs of illegal meth made to look like edible cactus. police made the discovery at mexico city's international airport in a package bound for the netherlands. officials became suspicious after x-raying the packages and finding that the cactus pieces were much darker than organic material should be. they opened the tubs and detected a strong chemical smell. the package was originally sent from guadalajara. cactus are a common staple in mexican cuisine.
