following this morning... at least six people are dead after a fire tore through a 24- story apartment complex in west london early this morning. 50 people have been taken to the hospital. crews say many people who live there were sleeping when the flames broke out. the fire hit every floor of the high-rise apartment building. police say they expect the number of dead to rise a blog ran run by local residents expressed safety concerns in past. bay area... fire season is kicking into high gear. fire crews across the region will be on high alert as tempertures climb to the triple digits in some parts. kron4's jr stone has the details on a grass fire that came dangerously close to homes. flames shooting into the air in vallejo tuesday afternoon coming dangerously close to this house and another. sot and then my husband texted me and said there's a fire and i'm like whatsot it's terrifyingi had to park down the street because there were fire trucks all over.this fire broke out in the hiddenbrooke section of vallejoanother in orinda. in vallejo investigators tell us a lanscaping crew is to blame. sot doing some weed eating. laid the tool down to change some swain.exhaust started the fire.he tried to stomp it out himself and it got away from himtemperatures are expected to heat up as we go farther into the week and

there are serious concerns from firefighters sot this weekend will be from what we're being told triple digits in some areas and it could potentially be one of our first red flag warnings in the area.sot the late season rains have made the grass crop very high and grass carries fire and windfirefighters recommend doing yard work in the morning hours when there is more moisture in the air and less of a chance that something like this could happen. ( james ) in the east bay. a cancer- causing compound in the drinking water has reached a near critical level. that's according to "east bay mud" officials who say, they found high levels of tri- halo-methans or t-h-m's in the

water. t-h-m's are known to cause cancer in laboratory animals. the chemical compound always exist in water but concentrations of t-h-m's have increased in the last few years. officals say the drought may be partially to blame. east bay mud is exploring other ways to treat the water including adding new chemicals and changing equipment at ts. for now, officials say the water is safe to drink. ( james ) the bay area is atop the basketball world as the golden state warriors have won another n-b-a championship. their 2nd in 3 years. the big victory parade is set for tomorrow in oakland. the party is currently set to begin at 10:00 a.m. we have a map of the route for big parade. the light blue

line shows the route. the parade will run right through the heart of downtown by lake m rally. anything you see in darker blue indicates the streets that are going to be closed off. if you plan on seeing the parade in person kron4's terisa estacio has what you need to know. this is what it looked like back in 2015 on bart, the last time the warriors won and the bay area celebrated. trains packed and lines long. paul oversier, asst general manager of operations bart "we plan to do a better job." and bart assistant general manager of operations says to do that they have come up with a 5 point plan for riders on thursday, starting with oversier. "be patient, it is going to be crowded. he is not kidding. right now, officials say it is estimated those coming out could be anywhere from 1.5 million to 2 million. oversier. "we are

looking to move 3x the amount of people the system was built for." tip 2. oversier. "don't go to lake merit station, it is small, the smallest." although lake merrit is the closet to the parade and rally, oversier says in addition to the small size, they had to close down lake merrit early back in 2015 - he says they are recommending riders to use a larger station like 19th or 12th street. oversier. "tip 3, buy a clipper card in advance or buy a ticket in advance." because there will be so many people maybe even a record number using bart, officials say it is best to come prepared with a prepaid clipper card or ticket so you don't have to waste time standing in lines. tip 4 - officials say have someone drop you off or take uber or lyft or bus to a station, parking will be a premium and you could get a ticket if you park in a reserved spot. and tip 5, bart is altering service to push as many long trains as possible to oakland, so that could impact other riders with fewer options on

( james ) a san rafael man is getting a ton of backlash after police say he entered a latino- church wearing a fake i-c-e jacket. kron4's alecia reid spoke to worshippers who say the man began taking pictures of them. the person in question lives close to this church . and according to police, his reasoning for walking into sunday service with that ice jacket on was because he had previous noise complaints that went unresolved.pkgit was a scary day at church last sunday for a number of parishoners. police say a man first took photos and video of people in the parking lot of lutheran church of the resurrection then made his way inside the sanctuary to continue taping. all while wearing what looked like an immigration and customs

( james ) a car struck a fire hydrant in san rafael sending a huge geyser of water shooting into the air. it happened on monday morning at around 8:30 in the loch lomand neighborhood. according to a witness an elderly woman lost control of her car and hit the fire hydrant. the person who shot the video said

she did not appear hurt. ( james ) a san mateo nanny was arrested for d-u-i after police say she drove through a fence at a school and injured a child. 64- year old evgeniya martynova was arrested on suspicion of d- u-i and child endangerment. the incident happened at cipriani elementary school in belmont. this is video of the arrest. the child who was injured was taken to a hospital and is expected to be okay. officails say martynova is a nanny who had come to the school to pick up another student. there was an infant in the car with her who was unharmed. the woman was reportedly convicted of d-u-i back in 2015. ( james ) in the north bay... a boarding school clinical director appeared in sonoma county court. this after 39-year-old kevin thorpe was arrested saturday for allegedly sexually molesting a young boy multiple times between 2006 and 20-11. thorpe works at the hanna boys center in sonoma where police believe some of the crimes

took place. the victim is now a 23-year-old man. but was a minor when he was a student at the boys center. the sonoma county sheriff's office says the victim came forward now because he fears there may be more victims.

( james ) her body was found in the feather river. and now officials say that 20 year old aly yeoman died from drowning. the sutter county sheriff's office released her cause of death

yesterday afternoon. but the manner in which she drowned is not yet known. yeoman first went missing on the way home in late march. her car was found days later near the feather river. and her body was found in may not far from where her car was found. ( james @ landing ) another big story we're following this morning... a department store in antioch was evacuated after a haz mat team from the fire department was brought in because several people complained of shortness of breath. the j.c. penny store on slatten ranch road was evacuated around six o clock yesterday to ensure the safety of workers and shoppers inside. fire officials quickly responded and got everyone out while police made sure nobody came into the area. two people were transported to the hospital and several others were treated at the scene.

( james @ landing ) faced with mounting problems and a workplace culture that has been described as a toxic... uber c-e-o travis kalanick announces he is stepping away indefinitely. kron 4's dan kerman is tracking the latest fallout from uber headquarters in san francisco. uber's leadership and workplace culture has been the center of attention following a string of incidents, among them a video showing ceo travis kalanick arguing with a driver who claimed uber's fare reduction forced him into bankruptcy. .. and claims by a former female engineer that she was sexually harassed by her boss and senior mangers ignored her complaints. now in a letter to employees kalanick says he will take a leave of absence for an unknown period of time "to grieve my mother," who died in a boating accident last month

( james ) for some people in the bay area having enough food is a daily struggle. for those who do need a hand to get by and survive, there are organizations here to help. kron 4's jeff pierce shows us how one group in the east bay makes sure people are getting fresh produce every day. fresh produce is something californians enjoy as almost a given but for many in our communities it is a difficult choice when they try to feed their families. that's why hundreds of people rely on the contra costa solano food bank's trucks that provide this important nutritional

help.fresh fruits and vegetables are extremely important to the people that we serve because they are often more expensive to buy so this way we know that they are getting nutritious food that they might not otherwise receive.the food bank's two refreigerated trucks make stops throughout the two counties every day distributing more than a million pounds of fresh produce every month. while the trucks were part of a grant the produce and the upkeep now depend on the community.the community support is definently more important than ever because this program not only costs to be able to provide the produce but also pay for the fuels for the trucks to operate.hundreds of those living on meager incomes depend on this source of fresh produce they might not otherwise have in their diets.foods important to the body we all need some good food.they give us all fresh fruits and vegetables that sometimes you can't afford to get.they would have to make a lot of difficult choices about how to feed their families so to be able to rely on the

( james ) governor brown's controversial gas tax has prompted a statewide campaign to let voters decide if they want to repeal it. the new tax increase takes effect on november first and will add 12 cents to a gallon of gas.

the tax is expected to generate more than $5 billion a year for road and highway maintenance and mass transit. republican assemblyman travis allen says voters never got a fair say in this new tax increase. é ( james ) he is trying to collect at least 365 thousand signatures from voters to put a gas tax repeal initiative on the november 2018 ballot.
