(estacio reporting) terror at the ups distribution center in san francsico - 911 calls started coming in around 855am - reports of an active shooter firing off his weapon - police rushed to the scene. tony chaplin, asst chief sfpd. " officers encountered shooting victims and immediately evacuated them, getting them to a safe location to begin treatment. " other tactical law enforcement pushed into the facility in an attempt to hunt down the shooter. chaplin. "one contact team located the suspect who was still armed with aan assault pistol - the suspect put eh gun to his head and discharged the weapon, officers immediately administrered aide to the suspect." as ambulances rushed 6 victims to the hospital,

(philippe)nats- "all ups employees -- let's go." amid the chaos...nick/ups driver- "we were in the center when the first shots rang out inside the building." u-p-s truck driver nick describes panic as he rushed outside.nick/ups driver- "that's where i saw one of our guys get shot, saw, i saw the first shot and i turned and ran. so, uh, little shook up." same goes for the rest of his colleagues. initially, witnesses inside the u-p-s building say the area was locked down... no one allowed in or out. shortly after learning the shooter was dead and there was no longer an immediate threat. workers streamed out of the building... those who witnessed the shooting, separated from their co- workers... headed in another direction with investigators for further questioning... nick is just grateful to be alive. nick/ups driver- "thankfully, i ran across the street, otherwise i would have been right there, um, and that's that's when the, uh, second series of shots rang out." stumped by what would drive the gunman to open fire puzzles nick. who says he couldn't make out the shooter or the colleague he saw get shot.nick/ups- "circumstances are strange. um, and, uh, i don't know. just, uh, there's a lot of bad energy in there.

an apartment building in west london.... we first broke this story last night on the kron4 news at eight.... the fire happened just after one in the morning our time... at the building known as the grenfell tower... about 125 families were inside the building sleeping when the fire broke out... and as of right now... the fire is under control but the building is smoldering... hundreds of firefighters and emergency crews are working to figure out just how many people are still trapped inside.... some witnesses say people were jumping out of windows trying to get to safety...

redevelopment... fire crews are trying to figure out what started this fire.... the community is working together to help survivors of the fire, donating clothes, food and water and offering shelter... (grant) state prosecuters charged contra costa county district attorney mark peterson with 12 counts of perjury and one count of grand theft for his misuse of campaign funds... peterson was fined 45-thousand dollars last year for violating the california political reform act. the commission says he spent over 66-thsaound dollars of tcampaign money on personal expenses...on meals, clothing and other things... and failed to report any of that spending in his campaign finance disclosure documents. peterson is also facing mounting pressure to resign because of his misconduct.. the board of the union is recommending a no confidence vote... that vote expecting to take place in two weeks. (vicki) fire investigators say pepper spray is believed to be the substance that sickened eleven people inside a j-c penney store in the east bay.... it happened around

(vicki) and we just learned that family members have identified one of the victims of the shooting... he is 46-year-old mike lefiti... he was a u-p-s driver... lefiti's cousin says lefiti was devoted to his wife, family and kids. co-worker's of lefiti's say mike was a big man, but humble and always happy.(grant) police say they went inside the the facility and confronted the shooter... who shot himself once he saw officers. officers did not shoot at the gunman... s-f-p-d is trying to figure out if the gunman was a u-p-s employee because he was dressed in a brown u-p-s uniform at the time of the shooting. (vicki) we are getting more details tonight about the shooting at the u.p.s. facility in san francisco. steve aveson has been on top of this story since it first broke and is in our newsroom now. (steve) vicki, san francisco police have just identified the gunman as jimmy lam. officials say lam is from san francisco, but had not immediate details on his background. lam killed three - before turning the gun on himself. in all six people were shot... at the u.p.s. package facility on portero hill this morning.

no word on motive for the shooting... and it is just one of the facts that police are investigating. what other information they are chasing.. coming up tongiht at six. now let's get back to our news at five. (grant) oroville dam construction crews are working against the clock to reconstruct a majority of the primary spillway in time for the upcoming rainy season... controlled explosions have uprooted decades-old concrete. around two-thirds of the primary spillway is being repaired following the massive failure in february...prom pting nearly 200 thousand evacuations. oroville dam officials say reconstruction of the spillway is on track. (erin mellon/oroville recovery project): "we were able to start construction a little bit earlier-so we are a couple of days, maybe even a week, ahead of schedule."(grant) the state says the first leg of reconstruction is on track to meet the november first deadline. full completion of both spillways is scheduled for 20-18... marking oroville

dam's 50-th anniversary. (oncam) because of the mess there... california's dam-safety division is stepping up its review of other dams. it's ordering immediate spillway inspections of around 70 aging dams. state engineers are working to identify older dams where people are living downstream of the spillway. letters will be sent to those dam owners-- ordering them to carry out extra inspections. state officials say some of the dams targeted for extra inspections date all the way back to california's 19th-century gold rush. (vicki)in san francisco. . . crews are now working to remove fuel from a barge that capsized back in april.the u-s coast guard and other agencies began the extraction earlier this morning at around 9-a-m. . . crews are pumping fuel from the boat to a separate barge for disposal.the barge. .. which is over a hundred feet long. . .capsized on april 7th just south of the bay bridge.plans to remove the

barge from the sea floor are still in progress. .. but will happen once all the fuel is extracted.backup equipment is at bay to prevent fuel from entering the water . . .in case anything goes wrong with the fuel extraction. (grant) a historic shipwreck has been discovered off of the coast of california. (vicki) the ship served in the spanish-american war... and sank off point conception. and take a look at this ship...named the "mcculloch"...after former treasury secretary hugh mcculloch. the ship began its career during the spanish american war and sank june 13th 1917. coast guard officials made the discovery in october,...releasing this footage to the public today... 100 years since the ship went down. (sot) greg gorga: "one of the members of the noaa team that discovered this wreck is robert schwimmer he's a boardmember of maritime museum a cultural historian for noaa and this is not the first shipwreck he's worked on." need a hand to get by and survive, there are programs here to help. kron 4's jeff pierce shows us how one group in the south bay makes sure people are getting fresh produce every day. the second harvest food bank of santa clara and san mateo county parks it's eighteen wheeler in the court yard of the katherine smith elementary school in san jose. from there they unload pallet after pallet of fresh fruits and vegetables and a variety of kitchen staples for the hundreds of low income families that rely on them each month.here in silicon valley just because we have a strong economy doesn't mean we don't have a hunger problem. in fact we call it the silicon valley paradox because the cost of living is so high.we serve over a quarter of a million people a month and that is the equivalent of three sold out crowds a month. so the need in silicon valley is huge.many of those that the second harvest food bank serves are from immigrant communities that are discovering foods they've never encountered before. second harvest has a nutrition program to introduce them to what are their first experince to many foods.we have a lot of people from latin america, vietnam, china and other countries so some food is not familiar to them. so we come out to sites do food

demonstrations and cook with food they'll be receiving that day. so they taste the sample they have recipes and when they go home they feel much more empowered to cook with those items.we feel very strongly about getting nutritious food into the hands of families with children.if we start early when kids start to learn to eat and we incorporate these food items already in their diet chances are we are already to fight against future diseases like diabetes and obesity. whether the focus of the second harvest food bank is disease prevention or maintaining a balanced diet for struggling families, it is a mission approached with enthusiam.the more we can do to help them and provide them with resources to get on their feet and to be healthy and to do well in school and at work the better we are for everybody. it's just amazing to be out at sites, engage with clients, learn about their cultures and really help promoting health. it's amazing.in san jose jeff pierce kron four news.

francisco police say they received 911 calls starting at 8:55 this morning - frantic calls about an active shooter inside the ups distribution center here in san francisco on potero hill. when officers arrived they found employees running for their lives. - they also found some victims shot outside, and inside the building. scared employees were caught with hands in the air on top of the building signaling their needed rescuing. once inside the building, officers found the shooter who then shot himself. the buiilding was shut down for hours as police attempted to figure out all that happened and why tony chaplin, asst chief sfpd " it was a frightening scene. we had to go in and we found someone that was hiding. now we have hundreds to interview. building... when a calm morning turned upside down.no name/ups pre-loader- "there was a driver who came in. he said 'they're shooting, they're shooting.' and, uh, we thought it was just a game, but then, we, they said the shooters inside of the building." it's at that moment he realized this was not a drill... rather a serious, and later learned, deadly situation.no name ups pre-loader- "we started running and everything, and then that's where everything happened. they just, um, enclosed us inside the doors, they shut the gates, they shut the doors and everything." he says the shooting actually happened on the third floor of the building... two levels above him. and, says the san francisco police department eventually led him and his co-workers outside, away from the bodies.no name/ups pre-loader- "the police didn't let us see any of that. they just blocked us out and made us stay across the street." having started his day at three in the morning... this all going down at the end of his

in order to molest her. lozano is the owner of the "n-y learning center... that is a richmond- based center for children with developmental disabilities. he is alleged to have known his victim.. since she was five years old. he is being held on a ten -point- nine million dollar bail. (steve) contra costa county's district attorney has resigned and pleaded no contest to corruption charges. mark peterson entered the plea to a felony count of perjury. he was sentenced to 250 hours of community service. a dozen other counts of grand theft and perjury were dropped. peterson had admitted to spending more than 66-thousand dollars in campaign cash over five years on personal items such as movie tickets and clothes. and failed to report any of that spending in his campaign finance disclosure documents. peterson has since repaid the money and has been fined 45- thousand dollars by the state fair political practices commission.
