(steve) senators dianne feinstein and kamala harris and representatives nancy pelosi and barbara lee introduced a bicameral congressional resolution today.... congratulating the golden state warriors on their n-b-a finals victory over the cleveland cavaliers.(catherine) here's what senator feinstein had to say... "the dubs gave us a historic playoff performance, just one game shy of an undefeated postseason record. the team's focus on the championship was impressive, and i couldn't be prouder that the title is back in the bay where it belongs." (steve) with the championship parade in the middle of the workday-- attendance was not an option for many dubs fans.(catherine) but work did not stop some determined fans... like one man-- who just happened to feel a bit under the weather this morning... ("sick" warriors fan): "i called in sick ácough coughá can you hear it? not feeling to good, but i'm feeling good enough for my warriors to give me that extra spirit, ya know." butted to "yeah, i'm not the only one so i'm sure there's gonna be other people there but i'll be out there with the fellow sick ones, we'll all be coughing together and cheering together." this is what the bart station at broadway and 12-th looked like after the parade. thousands of fans inched their way through the entrance gates and crowded into the packed station... trying to catch a train home. (catherine) when it comes to a celebration there's got to be confetti... and of course after the confetti --

(steve) kron4's gabe slate takes a look at how the confetti cannons work and what's done with the confetti pieces after... gabe slate /tech reporter says: "one of the best parts of the parade was the confetti flying in the air all around you so much fun i talked with one of the confetti canon operators to learn a little more about their unique job" wally /confetti cannon operator says: "it works very simple. we use these airpumps to push up air through the hose and then load the paper confetti and shoot it out into the air, there is a lever on top that you pull to make it work. very simple. and fun! we have about " wally operated the confetti cannon at 12th and broadway he was just one of dozens of spraying the crowd with the blue and yellow pieces.. individually they are light as a feather but combined.. there is a lot of paper being dropped wally /confetti canon operator says:"there is about 2,017 pounds of confetti being dropped today" you might be thinking what is this doing to our enviroment. well.. right after the parade passes they come out with the leaf blowers to pile up the

(catherine) happening now - a man is behind bars after barricading himself inside a union city home for several hours.(catherine) police say they were responding to a possible domestic violence incident in the 18-00 block of baylor street. they found the man inside the home alone. a shelter in place order was issued...and some nearby roads were closed for a time. the man was eventually arrested around noon...and the investigation is ongoing. after a woman's body was found stuffed in a suitcase and thrown in the san francisco bay... a man has been found guilty of murdering his girlfriend. 55-year-old lee bell has been convicted of first-degree murder in the death of 52-year-old pearla louis. louis disappeared in may of 20-10, and was last seen by bell in san francisco. her family reported her missing - and not long afterwards - police found her badly beaten body curled up inside a suitcase.. floating in the bay. bell remains in custody without bail. he'll be sentenced at another court date. will go on...despite the horrific shooting during republican practice wednesday morning.house majority whip steve scalise remains in a hospital in critical condition...getting a visit from president trump and first lady melania trump wednesday night.representative ron desantis believes he spoke to accused shooter james hodgkinson just moments before the incident.rep. ron desantis/-r- florida: "this gentleman approached us, he asked whether it was republicans. it was a little bit of a strange encounter//as soon as we got the news, jeff and i both talked to each other and said we've gotta report this guy.") investigators are working to piece together what led up to the crime.66-year-old hodgkinson was from illinois but had recently moved to the d-c area.he posted regularly on social media -- expressing opposition to republican policy and president trump. hodgkinson had been an avid supporter of bernie sanders ... volunteering for his campaign and even posting on facebook that hillary clinton should concede the democratic presidential nomination to him. sanders said the shooting was despicable:bernie sanders/-i- vermont: "violence of any kind is unacceptable in our society and i condemn this action in the strongest possible terms."

at nationals park in washington, i'm karin caifa (catherine) golfers and fans at the u-s open in wisconsin were in for a shock after a blimp crashed near the golf course this morning.. this video shows the blimp falling from the sky... it came down only about a half mile from the course. the pilot actually managed to parachute out of the deflated and tattered blimp.....but still suffered serious injuries and burns - and was air-lifted to a hospital. no one on the ground was hurt....and now investigators are trying to figure out what went wrong. it's believed the blimp may have had mechanical problems. lawrence karnow: high pressure started to crank up the temperatures today. we had many highs in the 80s and even a few 90s. this is just the start of a much warmer weather pattern. it's a little breezy but should be a mostly clear and mild night ahead. we could see a few patches of fog right near the coast but most of us will see stars. there still some shower to the north and even a few raindrops in far northern california. but high pressure will begin to build out of the southwest to bring hot and dry weather to much of the state. we should see some upper 90s and 100s in the central valley tomorrow with 70s and 80s in southern california. we will star to heat up in the bay area too. highs tomorrow will be in the upper 90s in the warmest valleys. highs in the bay will be in the 70s to upper 80s and much cooler 60s to low 70s near the coast. the heat wave will intensify this weekend with with triple diget heat

(top vo/catherine) hot weather is hitting the bay area... as investigators remain focused on some recent suspicious fires in the city of san jose. (rob live) im here just south of downtown san jose. up there on that hill you can see a burn scar from one recent fire. interstate 280 is just over the top. you can see several of these burn scars along 280 and in the nearby coyote meadows. both are areas with signficant numbers of homeless encampments. homeless woman" if you look over there you can where the fire was..."as she collected recycleables in coyote meadows, this homeless woman told me shesuspects the recent

decked out in blue and gold packed the downtown streets of oakland this morning to celebrate the golden state warriors championship.. (steve) this is the second championship in three years...but that did not diminish the crowds or enthusiasm of the fans.. people lined the streets to watch their favorite players drive through the parade course..(catherine) the warriors clinched the championship monday night at home...the first bay area team to win a championship series at home since the 1970's. at the end of the parade fans gathered at a rally near the south end of lake merritt where some of the champs spoke about the season...the team and the love they have for their fans.

as a surprise gesture - warriors owners joe lacob and peter guber said the team will be picking up the tab for the victory parade.. they say they'll reimburse the city for the entire cost -- which could be tens of thousands of dollars. (catherine) along with seeing their favorite players today during the warriors victory parade, fans were also treated to a few unexpected sights..... along the parade route - coach kerr joined in the fun, getting out there and surprising fans.

across the bay area, california and the country flocked to oakland today. our very own charles clifford was in the crowd this morning watching the parade and talking with fans. here in oakland more than a million people showed up to celebrate the warriors win and no one was disappointed.nats draped in blue and gold, warriors fans stood for hours to catch a glimpse of the team that has brought home the a second championsip trophy in just three years.natssotwe came all the way from dc, go warriors!most of the players road atop large blue busses, but a few climbed down to shake hands and sign autographs.sotclay thompson. that's who i'm here to see. even warriors coach steve kerr, who has been suffering with back problems, took a victory lap along the parade route.sotwe've seen everyone so far. tons of fun absolutely, yeah.the parade rolled by for about an hour and everyone i talked to loved it.sotit's great to be out here i'm just happy to be here. in oakland charles clifford

nike plans to cut its workforce. the company announced earlier today that will cut about 14-hundred jobs around the world. that's about two percent of its global workforce. it's unclear where and in what departments nike is cutting jobs. but the athletics giant says the cuts will take place over the next two months. nike says these laypffs are part of a new strategy to sell products more directly to

customers. nike stock fell about two percent after the news come out. (catherine) another recall tonight to tell you about.... some fiat chrysler owners need to have their vehicles checked for a mechanical problem. roughly 300- thousand dodge grand caravans are being recalled.... the recall is for 2011 and 2012 model years. wiring problems within the steering wheel can cause driver-side airbags to suddenly deploy. more than a dozen such incidents have been reported, causing minor injuries. owners will not have to pay for repair work. (pam) crews are finishing the clean up in oakland... after the golden state warriors and their fans took to the streets today. as you see in this video... piles upon piles of confetti can be seen throughout the streets.. a million plus people came out to support the warriors during their victory parade. the parade and rally ended around 2-this afternoon, and the cleaning was taking a lot of time and effort.. crews did not say how long it will take for streets to be cleaned. (steve) with pretty much all of downtown oakland blocked off to traffic... many warriors fans opted to take bart. right as the parade wrapped up, people immediately headed to the two stations on broadway. it did not take long for the 12th street station to fill up. police had to control the crowd so they closed the entrance gates to keep it from getting overcrowded. in the days leading up to the parade, bart had been predicting a potential record for ridership. we will find out soon if that is indeed the case. muir woods is one of the more popular destinations in the bay area, but it can also be one of the most crowded. tonight a plan to fix that is moving forward. the national park service is proposing redoing the parking areas and redesigning the visitor entry plaza. environmental review was recently completed and has all but cleared the way for the project. the funding will come from user fees and a government program. construction is suppose to start in 2019 and finish within a year. about a million people visit the marin county park every year. last weather and goodbye final look at the weather with chief meteorologist brittney shipp.
