( james ) the bay bridge is back to normal this morning after an officer involved shooting closed it for hours. we first broke this story yesterday on kron four news weekend. kron four's averi harper breaks down how it all started from the c-h-p headquarters in san francisco. this all started with a traffic collision.officers say they were clearing the scene

of an accident when a red sedan started driving toward officers.officers say they gave multiple commands to stop.. and that the driver continued barreling toward them.that's when an officer fired several rounds into that vehicle hitting the driver. "driver just kept coming kept coming and drove at one of our officers after multiple commands were given that officer fired several rounds the driver was trapped in multiple times i'm not sure how many times then the car came to a rest."his condition is unknown at this point.that driver had passengers they were unhurt in the shooting. after the shooting... all eastbound lanes were shut down. traffic was at a complete standstill.... the back up a mile long.stranding people for hours... so long that they got up and out of their vehicles and walked around on the bridge.at about 6am... officers started allowing vehicles to turn around... heading west on the eastbound lanes."got a vehicle that was heading directly at them and it's of course it's obvious to say that you have a speeding vehicle coming at you it's a very dangerous situation."all lanes have since reopened.chp says he investigation is ongoing.in san francisco.averi harper kron 4 news

( james ) in the east bay. a homicide investigation is underway in oakland after the body of a woman was found near highland hospital. police say they found the body just after 1:00 yesterday morning on 22nd avenue. officers have one suspect in custody but are not releasing any other information at this time. we'll bring you more details as it enters our newsroom. ( james ) in the south bay. a massive fire in san jose caused major damage to an apartment complex and has left at least 10 people without a home. fire crews say people were still inside the

complex when the fire broke out. the blaze started just before 4:00 yesterday afternoon. the first crew arrived to the area in six minutes and saw two apartments fully engulfed in flames. witnesses say the apartments went up in flames in the blink of an eye. ( james ) no one was injured in this fire. the cause of the fire is still being investigated. firefighters say they have been getting an increase in calls because of the heat wave. ( james ) happening now. a woman and her dog are without a place to stay after a fire destroyed their san leandro home. this happened around 8:00 saturday morning morning on evergreen avenue. at the scene fiefighters spotted flames shooting out of the kitchen. crews quickly contained the

fire. there were no injuries and officials say the cause was determined to be accidental and electrical. from the toll to 101 ( james ) happening now. the bay area is seeing an unusual amount of humpback whales, particulary surrounding the golden gate bridge. it is typical to see two to three whales swimming together this time of year. however, kron four viewers are reporting seeing as many as 18 at one time. experts with san francisco whale tours say this is the most they have ever seen ( james ) police are investigating a triple homicide case after a woman and two children were found dead inside a modesto home. officers are now saying the three were all murdered. doug johnson tells us family members are still dealing with the fact that they're gone. nats crime scenecharlene

( james ) modesto police have not released any information on how the three victims were killed. no one has been charged in these murders. ( james ) we have learned the identity of the 7 navy sailors killed after their ship collided with another ship near japan. and two of those sailors are from california. these are

their pictures. they range in age from 19 to 37 years old from all across the u-s. two are from california including one who was from san diego. the sailors' bodies were found in a flooded section of the destroyer. andrew spencer has the latest. watching the u-s-s fitzgerald being towed into port in yokosuka, japan, the damage is clear.a huge chunk of the still-listing navy destroyer seems to be missing.in fact, that part of the ship has been crushed inward; a hole ripped in the side. that damage is only the beginning.vice adm. joseph aucoin, u.s. 7th fleet commander: "...and you can't see most of the damage. the damage is mostly underneath the water line, and it's a large gash near the keel of the ship..."in the middle of the night, a filipino container ship -- almost three times the size of the destroyer -- crashed into the side of the fitzgerald.two of the damaged compartments house the sleeping quarters for more than 100 crew members -- many

nearly a month ago. she lost her unborn child in the accident. kron four's ella sogomonian has her story. a split second mistake by a dui driver on highway 12 in santa rosa has changed elizabeth ehrmann-subia's life forever. the 33 year old is learning to walk again at a physical therapy clinic in santa rosa. sot: elizabeth ehrmann-subia, crash survivor//"i remember coming to and thinking it was bizarre that my arm was hanging out of the ca because i was driving with my windows closed. and then i remember thinking i hurt a lot in a lot of unusual places."it's been almost one month since she was hit on highway 12 by merced avenue. police believe the driver was under the influence of methamphetamines.ehrmann-subia cautions other driverssot: elizabeth ehrmann-subia, crash survivor//"it's not worth it. i didn't even see him coming. i didn't have time to hit the breaks."erhmann-subia was on her way to sebastapol just before 5 that night to pick up her 2 year old daughter.sot:

( james ) at least two tourists were killed and 32 others rescued after a gunman attacked a luxury resort in the african nation of mali. this happened yesterday. two of the three attackers were also killed, but officers are still looking for the third gunman. the mali government is calling this an act of terrorism. the attackers exchanged gunfire with an anti-terrorism unit that came to the scene after the attack. ( james ) a woman is behind bars and accused of trying to perform an exorcism on her 11-year-old daughter near eureka. police say kimberly felder stripped her daughter naked and started beating, biting and choking her at a secluded beach on friday. felder told people she was trying to remove demons from the girl. a good samritan stepped in and restrained the mother until police arrived. the 45-year-old mother was arrested for child abuse and attempted homicide. the girl is in the hospital this

( james ) now to a story we brought you first last week. community concerns are growing after a three-year-old girl died following a dental procedure in stockton. the girl's grieving family is demanding answers this morning. kay recede has the the story. while loved ones demand justice for 3-year-old daleyza hernandez outside the children's dental surgery center here in stockton, her mother sits in a van.nats: "mi chiquita"too grief-stricken to join the protest.araceli avila, mother of daleyza: "i couldn't bring myself to get out because i remember bringing my daughter (here). i remember her being fine, walking, happy and healthy (vasana)."araceli avila spoke to us in spanish.she says after a referral from western dental she took little daleyza to the center on monday. araceli avila, mother of daleyza: "no, all i want is that another mother doesn't go through the same pain that im going through. that she doesn't lose a child."avila says her daughter never

complained about any pain before then.araceli avila, mother of daleyza: "no, nothing hurt on my daughter." the administrator of the center says the girl had some sort of reaction during the dental procedures, but was stabilized and sent to saint joseph's hospital... he says his staff does not know what went wrong.avila says she tried to ride in the ambulance with her daughter to the hospital but a nurse stopped her and told her that her daughter would be okaraceli avila, mother of daleyza: "how is she going to wake up when she has tape on her eyes? my daughter wasn't doing well." yolanda dawson, aunt of daleyza: "what we want is justice. we want this place to be closed down."now her family and even strangers are joining her cause with their own concerns about the safety of this facilitymaria pottratz, protester: "i have a lot of concerns especially when my grandchildren have been here at this facility."the administrator said they're licensed by the state and at every surgery there's one dentist, an anesthesiologist, and two assistants.but for the family they just want to know not only why this tragedy happened... and how it can be prevented.yolanda dawson,

hong is at the breaking news desk with the latest. anny. (anny) a van plowed through a crowd of pedestrians near a mosque early this morning and now we have learned that police are investigating it as a possible terrorist attack. the attack took place just after midnight in north london as worshipers were finishing prayers. the attack happening just days before the end of the muslim holy month of ramadan. police say the driver of a van that hit pedestrians is a 48-year-old man who has been arrested and taken to a hospital. he was detained by people at the scene. and this morning we are hearing from one of the men who tackled the driver and held him until police could arrive.

police are not sure if the person killed was actually struck by the van. the victim was already receiving first aid when the attack happened. at least eight other people were taken to hospital. two of them are seriously injured. in a statement, london's mayor called the incident a "horrific terror attack." police say the incident has all the hallmarks of a terror attack but they have not confirmed terrorism as a motive. back to you in the studio. . ( mark ) in the east bay. police are investigating a homicide in oakland after the body of a woman was found near highland hospital. police say they found the body yesterday morning on 22nd avenue. officers have one suspect in custody but are not releasing any other information. officers were clearing the scene when a red sedan started driving toward them. police gave multiple commands telling the driver to stop...and when the driver continued barreling towards them...an officer fired several rounds into that car....hitting the driver. there is no word on the driver's condition this morning. there were passengers in the car at the time of the shooting. they were not injured. police are trying to figure out if drugs or alcohol were involved in the incident. ( mark ) a massive fire in san jose caused major damage to an apartment complex and has left at least 10 people without a home. fire crews say people were still inside the complex when the fire broke out yesterday afternoon. when firefighters arrived, two apartments were fully engulfed in flames. witnesses say they had just seconds to get everyone out: ( mark ) no one was injured in the

( mark ) a coroner's report says sleep apnea may have contributed to actress carrie fisher's death. the exact cause of death has been ruled undetermined but medical examiners say heart disease and drug use were also factors in her death. the report indicates that she had taken multiple drugs prior to her passing. fisher suffered a heart attack on a flight from london in december 20-16 and died several days later. she was 60-years old. worshipers were finishing prayers. the attack happening just days before the end of the muslim holy month of ramadan. police say the driver of a van that hit pedestrians is a 48-year-old man who has been arrested and taken to a hospital. he was detained by people at the scene. and this morning we are hearing from one of the men who tackled the driver and held him until police could arrive.

( darya ) in the east bay. police are investigating a homicide in oakland after the body of a woman was found near highland hospital. police say they found the body yesterday morning on 22nd avenue. officers have one suspect in custody but are not releasing any other information. ( darya ) police continue to investigate an officer involved shooting that closed the bay bridge for several hours. police say it started with a car crash yesterday morning. officers were clearing the scene when a red sedan started driving toward them. police gave multiple commands telling the driver to stop...and when the driver continued barreling towards them...an officer fired several rounds into that car....hitting the driver. there is no word on the driver's condition this morning. there were passengers in the car at the time of the shooting. they were not injured. police are trying to figure out if drugs or alcohol were involved in the incident. ( mark ) a massive fire in san jose caused major damage to an apartment complex and has left at least 10 people without a home. fire crews say people were still inside the complex when the fire broke out yesterday afternoon.

when firefighters arrived, two apartments were fully engulfed in flames. witnesses say they had just seconds to get everyone out: ( mark ) no one was injured in the fire. firefighters say they have been getting an increase in calls because of the heat. ( darya ) a coroner's report says sleep apnea may have contributed to actress carrie fisher's death. the exact cause of death has been ruled undetermined but medical examiners say heart disease and drug use were also factors in her death. the report indicates that she had taken multiple drugs prior to her passing. fisher suffered a heart attack on a flight from london in december 20-16 and died several days later. she was 60-years old.
