batteries." he's been in business for 21-years and says the summer time is always extra busy... and, the last few weeks have been no different -- with business jumping up 25-percent.dave s auto and truck repair- we do get customers coming in here that before we've told them their a/c wasn't working properly and they put it off and put it off but in a rush to get it done." and, mechanics are up for the challenge. the key of course is staying hydrated... we stopped by have coolers stocked with water to keep the line moving. philippe djegal, kron four news. crews in southern california are battling a fire in the san bernardino national forest...north east of big bear lake. the fire started on monday...a day with record breaking heat.. it has burned nearly two-point-five square miles... with more than 12-hundred fire fighters out on the line. the fire is only 10- percent contained right now as crews are also battling the heat and rough terrain in the area. a smoke advisory has also been put in place until friday morning. (vicki) a bill that would open up more of the country's national forests to logging operations is being touted as a way to prevent out of control wildfires. but some environmental groups worry it would open public lands to exploitation. kron four's washington correspondent drew petrimoulx has more on the legislation.

take pkg raging wildfires ripped through tennessee, georgia and the carolinas last year and the west coast the year before. their intensity can be partly blamed on poor land management -- says arkansas congressman bruce westerman. rep bruce westerman, r-ar:"i think the real problem is we've loved our trees to death."westerman says preventing logging produces the conditions for out of control fires. rep bruce westerman, r-ar:"they crowd the growing space, you see overstocking which leads to stress, you see insects disease and then wildfires."in response -- westerman introduced a bill he says will streamline the approval process for logging in federal forests. but some environmental groups say the legislation would cut out input from the public and scientific community. mike anderson is a senior policy analyst with the wilderness society. mike anderson, wilderness society"it really says huge areas of the regardless of whether there's anybody living nearby, we are just going to log the heck out of it."during a hearing last week a former forestry service official warned against the legislation calling it a return to policies that in the past led to environmental harm. jim furnish, former deputy director, us forestry service: "this bill puts forth a false choice between commerce and our environment."

(steve) today is by far the hottest day of the heat wave that has gripped the bay area since the weekend. temperatures soaring approaching records in some spots.(steve) it is enough to cause stress for residents trying to cope with it all. two deaths have already been blamed for the heat. (pam) and outages are starting to come in - as crews scramble to deal with it all. kron four's terisa estacio on the challenges crews are facing ... as residents try and hang in there.
