come to take the team to las vegas... so until then, there's a money truck pulling into the alameda headquarters. (vicki) and it's all for one man. derek carr is on the receiving end of a massive payday. this morning-- the qb talked about his record contract...we'll have more on that in a bit. but first-- sports director gary radnich joins us in studio with his analysis. gary? its is official derek carr got paid today.....he is now the richest palyer in nfl history.....5 years 25 million dollars...
5:08 pm
before derek carr came along, the raiders spent more than a decade looking for a franchise quarterback. so when, carr burst onto the scene...the front office knew they had to lock him up longterm. and today-- he is the highest paid player in league history....and he says this process could not have gone smoother. "i told tim, my agent, that i don't wanna play anywhere else. if they'd let me sign a 20-year-deal, i'd say let's do it. he'd say 'let's wait a little on that, i don't know if that's smart.' there was no hesitation for me. it didn't matter if they said that, i would have been like, 'deal!' tim would have to teach me, 'well that's probably not the best thing.' i just wanted to be a raider. it's more than just a team to me, it's more
5:09 pm
than just that, it's family." and with this being a family, carr made sure to take care of his brothers. even when signing the most lucrative contract the league has ever seen, the ever-selfless franchise qb...structured his deal so his fellow teammates can get paid as well. "i was like 'okay that's cool. that's awesome. but is it good for gabe? is it good for khalil is it good for amari? i mean, he can tell you himself. these are things that i said to him. numerous amounts of times. i didn't want to hurt our team. that's the last thing i'd ever wanna do." with his 125- million dollar contract, 40-of which is guaranteed-- carr knows exactly what he wants to splurge on. "chik-fil-a. probably chik-fil-a. i've been eating clean. lad, we got lad here, he's been having me eat clean. i'll probably get some chik-fil-a. but no, the first thing i'll do is i'll pay my tithe like i have since i was in college, giving $700 on a scholarship check. that won't change. i'll do that. i'll probably get my wife something nice, even though she begs me not to." carr mentioned repeatedly that he wants to give back to the community.. and wants to use this money to make an impact in charities and causes around the world.
