(catherine) the president's revised order - issued in march - banned travelers from six muslim countries as well as all refugees. the travel ban was to last 90 days, the refugee ban 120 days...designed to allow a vetting of immigration procedures. today's court ruling means the ban will affect far fewer people. gavel natin the court's opinion, the travel ban may not be enforced against foreign nationals who have a credible claim of a bona fide relationship with a person or entity in the united states. that means the ban would not apply to close family members, or anyone admitted to a school or offered a job in this country. "that's good, but it still doesn't deal with this fundamental flaw in the trump order, which is at it's

heart, it is a muslim ban."sfx while opponents of the ban expressed disappointment, president trump issued a formal statement calling the decision a clear victory for national security andsaying it provided an important tool for protecting national security. the white house has said the ban would be implemented within 72 hours of court approval.that means the 90 and 120=day bans will likely expire before the court hears arguments on the case in october.meantime we are unlikely to see a repeat of the chaos last january, when people were pulled off planes and held in detention.that's because the president revised and rewrote his executive order, it now affects only the issuance of new visas. that means no one should be blocked at a u.s. airport but rather would simply be denied a visa before leaving home. (catherine) the president said the travel bans were a stopgap measure, so his administration could come up with a new permanent plan.

(vicki) continuing our coverage on today's ruling... president trump claiming victory today as the supreme court made an announcement on his executive order restricting citizens from six countries. but as kron four's terisa estacio reports, legal experts have a different take on what the high court did and did not do today. president donald trump here signing his executive travel order - and now late monday tweeting about being very grateful that the us supreme court gave a 9-0 decision on his order. however, legal experts say that is not exactaly true. it is much more complicated than that. sot/tc: richard boswell, hasting law professor. "it is a partial victory, especially because all of the other courts have knocked it completely down in the past." richard boswell is an immigration law professor at

hastings law school. he explains, actually the court did not hand down a decision on the controversial ban which sparked protests like this one earlier in the year - but rather an announcement that they will review the matter in the fall. in the meantime, they are allowiong a part of the ban to stay in effect. boswell. "if you do not have a relationship with someone or a company, then you are not getting in now. however, another section the court wrote the governement can not prohibit people from coming into the country who have a credible claim. boswell. (vicki) back here in the bay area... the coroner has identified the two suspects who were fatally shot during a home invasion on wednesday. both men are from antioch-- 38-year-old ellis williams... and 32-year-old joseph brooks. this surveillance video briefly shows what happened just before midnight one of the suspects had a gun when they broke into the home so, in a simple act of self defense the homeowner used his own gun to kill both robbers. as of now, police say he will not be arrested or charged for killing them (vicki) a san francisco man drowned while kayaking in the delta after saving his daughter who fell in the water. officials say it happened yesterday afternoon south of rio vista. 40-year-old roni alvarado was kayaking with his 5-year-old daughter in three mile slough when

their kayak overturned. alvarado and the girl went under initially, but he surfaced with her and held her above the water. she was picked up by a good samaritan on a jet ski in the area. alvarado then went under again and did not resurface. "the guy as helping the little girl try to stay afloat. and a jet ski goes by and grabs the little girl.""and then the guy goes down. and they never saw him after that."(vicki) neither the father or the daughter were wearing a life jacket. it took nearly 10 hours for crews to recover the body. (steve) the teen girl who fell to her death from a cliff in san franciscowas walking in an area that is closed off to the public. park police officials say 17- year-old victoria la rocca and two other teens disregarded signs warning of danger when they walked to the painted rock cliff's edge...located at land's end. there la rocca fell nearly 200 feet and landed on a large rock. after finding her motionless and unresponsive ... rescuers

transported her to china beach where she later died. the two juveniles with la rocca confirmed to investigators that they knew the area was closed when they entered it. (steve) a judge dismissed two felony counts of conspiracy to obstruct justice against a former oakland police officer today. it happened after prosecutors refused to disclose the name of a confidential informant in the prostitution case. 27 year old ryan walterhouse still faces one misdemeanor count of engaging in an act of prostitution. a prostitute testified that walterhouse gave her his number and solicited her for sex after he met her while patrolling in oakland last year. walterhouse resigned from the oakland police department in december. (vicki) happening now... a busy day for north bay fire departments... this afternoon the fairfield fire department responded to a vegetation fire on interstate 80 at pittman road. the chp closed down pittman road at the eastbound off-ramp. then, another brush fire was reported a few hours earlier

(vicki) a police officer is injured after a fight breaks out in a busy san francisco mall. this is video of the aftermath of the fight that broke out at westfield mall in san francisco just before 7:00 last night. the fight forced the mall to close early. police say they were responding to calls about some sort of altercation.. when they arrived... people approached officers and began throwing things and assaulting them. police say several people were detained - including a juvenile. one officer suffered minor injuries - no other injuries were reported. no word yet on what started the fight. (steve) 2 teens were arrested after police say they participated in a gang related brawl on monte rio beach saturday night. the fight injured 5 people. officers say as many as 16 people- possibly belonging to rival gangs- were fighting on the beach using bottles, cans,

sticks and knives. police responded just before 7pm. 5 people were taken to the hospital with stab wounds, cuts and bruises. deputies arrested a 17- year-old petaluma boy on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, and a 16-year-old santa rosa girl was arrested on suspicion of misdemeanor battery. officer say further gang- related arrests are expected. (steve) a motorcyclist is behind bars and accused of driving recklessly. c-h-p contra costa posted "slow-motion" video from its helicopter on facebook. it shows the driver on a green motorcycle in orinda on highway 24 by hidden valley road. c-h-p says the rider was kicking, punching and smashing mirrors. the rider led the "air-ops" team and patrol cars to his house where officers were waiting for him. he faces charges of reckless driving, vandalism, suspended registration and his motorcycle was impounded. c-h-p says the rider also attacked cars several times last week.

(vicki) happening now. arson investigators are looking for the people who destroyed a popular bay area playground. police say someone set fire to the koret children's playground in golden gate park late saturday night. it's the playground near the carousel. officials say it is an act of vandalism... and they are not sure when the park will reopen. the fire caused more than 1-million dollars in damage. the playground was built in 18-88 and is considered to be the nation's first public playground. it was renovated back in 2007 for nearly 4 million dollars. lost control, slammed into a wall and then plunged into the water. witnesses say there were many children in the pool at the time. they were not seriously injured. authorities said they are investigating the crash as a possible dui incident. (vicki) over the weekend in las vegas -- police charged a california father with his son's death in what they are calling a "no body murder charge." aramazd andressian senior is accused of killing his missing five- year-old son, aramazd andressian junior. police say the 35-year-old father changed his appearance and didn't show any grief for his missing boy. the last time his son was seen was back in april. andressian was supposed to drop off little aramazd to his mother. andressian was found unconscious in a park in south pasadena. police say he was intoxicated from prescription drugs and that he told them multiple versions of what happened to his son. if convicted, he faces up to 25 years to life in prison. phillip sanchez/pasadena police chief: it's been a long time for us as far as wanting this case filed and i can tell you my community, south pasadena, their heart breaks.

(steve) scary moments in new york as a teenage girl falls from a ride at an amusement park. now authorities are saying the girl's actions - caused her to fall. this happened over the weekend, at six flags great escape. the 14-year- old was riding the sky ride gondola with her brother - when she slipped. her brother held her as a crowd gathered below to catch her.

(vicki) a big story we're tracking. a settlement in the death of philando castile. the minnesota man shot by police last year during a traffic stop. his family just announced a three-million dollar settlement with the city of saint anthony, minnesota. police officer jeronimo yanez was charged in the killing. but he was acquitted of second-degree manslaughter and related counts earlier this month. yanez is leaving the saint anthony police force. (sot) "if i had to say one thing that's uniform with officer shootings that are bad is that the officer panics.that's i think what caused the willingness to settle for essentially 3 million dollars on the part of the city and which caused them to fire him because you can't have an officer like that on the street and i don't think he will be getting a police job in minnesota." the castile

(steve) a woman on a southwest airlines flight allegedly tried to open a cabin door mid-flight sunday. several passengers.. including an off-duty police officer, subdued the woman. the flight was headed from los angeles to houston.. but had to be diverted to texas. according to chief of public safety for corpus christi international airport -- the woman was pacing back and forth along the aisle and not following instructions from crew before she reached for the door. the off-duty officer says she was just doing what she had to do to keep everyone safe. officer pamela minchew, cleveland independent school district officer"ran and jumped over the seat over passengers grabbed the emergency exit. and at that point when i seen she had the clear plastic in her hand. i just jumped up, self identfied and subdued her. all i seen was she was reaching for the door. my children were there & other passengers with their families, she was not getting the door open." (steve) we are following breaking news... a wildfire is burning out of control near vineyards on california's central coast. firefighters say the fire broke out around 3 this afternoon - in beaumont. within two hours had grown to 125 acres and is threatening structures. the area is just east of the small town of santa margarita

(steve) wildfires continue to tear through parts of the west(vicki) and the region's dry conditions are literally fanning the flames reporter reid binion has the latest. parts of the west are ravaged by wildfires....erin darboven, fire operations spokeswoman: "we had a lot of calls from the public about what the fire is doing to the area and it's still very, very active." among the states affected, utah.that's where the brian head fire is located.it's the largest active wildfire in the nation, scorching more than 42- thousand acres thus far. sheriff jim perkins: "it is heart wrenching i get it you know there are cabins up there that are generations old." authorities say that fire was likely caused by a weed torch.

a number of communities in the area were forced to evacuate, including the entire town of brian head.residents there are keeping their fingers crossed. woman: "i just hope i can go back to rotten food in the freezer and the refrigerator stinks like all get out. the california highway patrol could be shifting its attention to carpool lane cheaters... thanks to a bay area agency. the metropolitan transportation commission is asking lawmakers to put in a bill c-h-p patrols for the lanes. lawmakers are already working on legislation to extend a program that allows hybrids and electric vehicles with stickers to use the carpool lanes. that program is suppose to end at the beginning of 2019. there

the city is tripling the fine for people who get caught. police say, normally the fine is 100- dollars. but thanks to the city council giving its approval, the fine will triple to 300- dollars for anyone who is busted between july 2nd and july 8th.
