and it's only going to get hotter as get closer to fire season. while the bay area has avoided major wildfires so far there have been some close calls. kron4's j.r stone spoke with one south bay family who says, a fire came dangerously close to their home. (j.r.)the home directly behind me is one of at least two that came dangerouslsy close to flames. you can see behind me the area that burned. you can also see where flame retardent was dropped in the distance. homeowners using hoses to protect their homes in san jose on wednesday as a fire tore through the hillside grass.sot just a big line of fire probably ten feet talljoe martarano said workers at his house alerted him to the flames.sot before they saw the smoke they heard bottle rockets going off and firecrackers and shortly after that they saw the smoke and

that's why they came and got me.joe made it to the hillside and along with the help of the workers who alerted him and his grandson.they were all able to fight the flames with hoses. about 15 acres burned but they were able to protect their homes. san jose fire and calfire were fighting it as well. helicopters and planes were used to dump water and fire retardent.sot right in the middle i couldn't even see because it was so thick with smoke my eyes were burning and i couldn't even hardly stand it. quite the day for a man who admitshe's no spring chicken and hasn't faught many fires.sot 80 years old and i'm fightin' fires.that's actually our third fire.j.r. tag this is what the hillside looks like now. it appears the fire started on the top. no official cause has been given, j.r. stone kron 4 news. (will) several fires are

burning across the rest of california. one of those fires was in burbank forcing mandatory evacuations throughout the day. the fire started around three- yesterday afternoon. firefighters were spraying water to prevent the flames from getting to homes. crews managed to contain the fire and are now keeping an eye out for hot spots. (will) firefighters are trying to get the upper hand on a wildfire that sparked tuesday in san bernardino county. so far more than 600- acres have burned and it is only 40- percent contained. hundreds of firefighters are battling the flames. authorities have lifted the mandatory evacuations in the area. but highway- 330 which is near the area of the fire is still closed.
4:07 am
(will) and the fire in marin county is now contained. we've learned it started when a tree limb fell on a power pole. the 'pine fire' started tuesday morning near kent lake. firefighters contained it at 38-acres. it never threatened any homes so no evacuations were necessary. (will) happening today... a revised version of president trump's travel ban goes into effect. and this morning we are learning more about who will be allowed to enter the u-s. under the new travel ban people in six countries who want to enter the u-s must prove a relationship with family already in the country. that means the person must have either a parent... spouse... child or sibling in the u-s. any other relationship will not be considered sufficient enough to enter. people who have already been admitted to schools in the u-s or have a job will also be allowed. the ban will last for 90 days.
4:08 am
the country included in the ban include... libya... syria... somolia... sudan... iran and yemen. the ban extends to 12o days for refugees from those countries. the ban goes into effect at 5:00 tonight. (will) also happening today... the house of representatives will vote on a bill known as kate's law. the bill is named for kate steinle who was shot and killed in san francisco by an undocumented immigrant. president trump is urging the house to pass the bill. it would impose mandatory minimum prison sentences for deportees who re-enter the country. the man accused of killing steinle had been deported multiple times. the house is also considering another bill that would strip certain federal grants from sanctuary cities like san francisco... who refuse to cooperate with immigration (will) bart officials say they're watching you. all trains are now equipped with

surveillance cameras. kron4's hermela aregawi spoke with a former police chief as well as passengers about whether the new cameras are enough..to prevent crime. four cameras now on every train car.bart hopes it will help ease passenger concerns about safety on trains.former bart police chief gary gee weighed in on the new security measures.gary gee/former bart police chief:if a camera has been installed in each of them and they're not only operational but can record and store images for extended period of times so it can be retrieved by police as evidence then yes bart has met his promise.a promise bart vowed to keep after a passenger was shot and killed on a train back in january 2016.the suspect here.. was caught on some cameras - but
4:10 am
turns out the ones on the trains were decoys.passengers we talked to applaud bart's effort to keep people safebut they don't think it will put an end to crime.ashley haynes/bart rider: i'm not really sure because at the same time people are not going to be aware. people aren't really not going to care about the cameras so things are still going to go down regardless. i'm very cautious. i'm always on my p's and q's because you never know what can go down. you never know who's going to walk on their because anybody gets on. demario henderson/bart rider: i'm making sure i'm very alert on bart because you never know what might go down. you might have a scuffle, you might get robbed. it's harsh in the bay area but you got to be aware of your surroundings and you've got to know what's going on.others think there should be more cops on trains..to keep criminals away. but former chief gee says there aren't enough bart police officers to man each train, each day.gary gee/former bart police chiefto put police officers on each of those cars number one would be cost prohibitive. so bart police resort to the traditional form of policing and that is have officers assigned to sectors or beats that are responsible for 2/3 stations(hermela aregawi)like those passengers were saying..
4:11 am
former bart police chief gary gee says the best thing passengers can do to keep themselves safe.. is to be aware of their surrounds. reporting live in san francisco, hermela aregawi, kron 4 news. kron 4's justine waldman explains what will be wiped off of all credit reports... experian, equifax and transunion, are changing their standards starting on july first.the big three credit agencies will wipe out about half of tax liens and almost all civil judgments from credit reports.erica sandberg / consumer money expert sot because they cannot be proven and until the can be proven they can be correct off they go consumer finance expert erica sandberg tells me the new law will help about 12 million people get a better credit score.the law is in response to a class action law-suit.. that claimed in many cases people with the same name - one with good credit and the other with bad - would be mixed up. damaging the good persons score.sot because simply there were too many mistakes too many consumers said where did that come from? hey i paid it? or that isn't even mine.people impacted could see their scores jump 20 to 40 points.a better credit score should make it easier to get loans, credit cards and mortgages approved.sot you want to have a credit score of
4:22 am
740 750 so if you are not quite there this gets you end up with a far better mortgage and you pay less over all.but this could be a law with unintended consequences. consumers may appear more credit-worthy than they really are.sot they may just increase credit rates across the board because they take a greater risk justine waldman heads-up, just because those marks from tax liens or civil judgements ...do not appear on your credit score after the first of july... it does not mean they've totally vanished. you still have to to pay them off. in the newsroom justine waldman kron 4 news.
