(steve) two people are lucky to be alive tonight... after a small plane crashed onto a popular freeway and burst into flames... the f-a-a says the plane crashed on highway 405 shortly after it took off from john wayne airport in santa ana... the pilot was attempting to reutrn to the airport and called air traffic controllers shouting "mayday" four times before crashing down onto the freeway below.... police say the plane struck a pick-up truck during the crash but the driver was not hurt. four cars struck debris after the crash but neither of them were injured... the pilot told air traffic controllers that the right engine failed before the plane went down and did not make it back to the airport... captain larry kurtz/ oc fire

over and killed - allegedly by her friend in campbell has been identified. on tuesday, police were called to the area of leigh avenue and montemar way for a possible hit and run. when officers arrived they found 23-year-old sally hernandez lying in the roadway suffering from major injuries. she was taken to a local hospital where she later died. police arrested 23-year-old elsie de la rosa... on suspicion of murder. the victim's friend says the hernandez was the godmother... to one of de la rosa's children. about an attack on bart that happened the same day new security cameras were installed on trains. it happened wednesday night on a train bound for dublin. bart says a person was

punched. then four people grabbed the victims phone and ran out of the east dublin station. police believe all of the attackers were under the age of 18. bart police say they are still reviewing the video. the new cameras come more than a year and a half after it was discovered bart had been using some decoy cameras on trains. (vicki) the effort to recall superior court judge aaron persky has taken a big first step. backers of the recall filed paperwork with the santa clara county registrar of voters. now they have 160 days to gather more than 50-thousand signatures needed to qualify the recall for the june 2018 ballot. . judge persky was criticized for what many called a lenient sentence for a former stanford swimmer. brock turner was convicted of sexually assaulting a woman who was unconscious. he was only sentenced to just six months in jail. supporters of the recall say persky shows a long pattern of bias in cases involving sex crimes. but opponents say reviews have found no evidence of misconduct or bias by the judge. (vicki) the project took about four days to complete... and cost nearly 14-million dollars... all of which came from measures a and b, the

city of san jose, and state and federal resources. (steve) an update now to a story we first brought to you yesterday on kron four news at five. a wildfire that become dangerouly close to home in east san jose has been fully contained. it broke out yesterday afternoon near the penitencia creek trail. neighbors called 9-1-1 and then used garden hoses to keep the fire from spreading to their homes. the fire burned about 80 acres, and no homes were damaged. (steve) charges have been dropped against two teens who prosecutors say... were involved in setting the deadly and largest wildfire in tennessee... district attorney's say prosecutors can't prove the teenagers were responsible... because there were other factors contributing to the fire's seriousness... this includes the 80-mile-per-hour winds and downed power lines that ignited flames. the wildfire started in november in the area of great smoky

mountains national park that blew into town of gatlinburg. 14 people were killed... 134 were injured and 17- hundred buildings were destoryed or damaged. the d-a says evidence showed the teens did not cause the death and devastation. (vicki) happening now... state officials are warning people not to swim in the san luis reservoir... and to avoid eating fish from its water. the department of water resources say its upgraded the advisory for blue-green algae in the reservoir to danger... after testing near the basalt boat ramp earlier this week. the algae is toxic and exposure can cause skin rashes, eye irritation, and flu-like symptoms. the state is advising people not to make contact with the water, drink it or eat mussels or other seafood from it. the advisory does not apply the nearby o'neill forebay. this clinic here in richmond is one of three planned parenthood's that shut down. two factors lead to the closings.for years the federal government's reimbursements to planned parenthood for treating medi-cal patients has been less than what it actually costs planned parenthood to treat those patients.prop 56 -- the tobacco tax increase -- was supposed to help healthcare providers fill that deficit. however, despite the tax passing and tobacco prices skyrocketing, the state budget did not pass along the promised reimbursement funds to providers.the second factor is the republican proposals to defund planned parenthood. that threat isn't new, but both the house and senate's proposed obamacare alternatives would remove plannedparenthood funding for a year, they also propose large cuts to medicaid.a spokesperson for planned parenthood says despite the closures, they don't expect to turn patients away.those patients will be referred to nearby planned parenthood clinics that are nearby. reporting live in richmond, lydia pantazes kron4 news.s (vicki) happening tomorrow... two bay area cities will be raising their minimum wage. in san francisco minimum wage will go up to 14 dollars per hour.

williams is being sued by the family of a man who died after a car crash that police say williams caused. the accident happened back on june 9th and left a 78-year old man with serious injuries...he died two weeks later. police released details of the crash saying williams was at fault... witnesses say williams s-u-v crossed in front of the victim's sedan after their light turned green...blocking their right

of way. williams has not been cited or charged. (vicki) a father sets up an ambush to catch a man who was having an inappropriate online relationship with his 15-year-old daughter. (steve) and it was all caught on camera. take a look... it happened in oklahoma last week. the girl's dad found sexual messages between his daughter and the 33-year- old man and reported it to police. the dad then learned that the two had planned to meet at his home, so he set up the ambush. he says the whole family was waiting for the guy to show up...

" this was the first week where i was like i have no money, i dont know what i'm gonna do." courtney baily thought she was going to get several tickets when officer strand pulled her over... she was reportedly speeding, had an expired registration and was not wearing a seat belt....but officer strand did the opposite. baily told him she was recently laid off from her music teaching job and was struggling to find the money to keep up on her car payments.. that's when officer strand decided to pay for her car inspection and a much needed new tire. baily posted her story of what happened to her on facebook and it quickly went viral. officer strand says he just knew it was the right thing to do. heart warming story... an oklahoma police officer went beyond the call of duty... to adopt a young boy who was at the center of a child abuse investigation. from our partners at cnn jo ellison reports. 10-year-old john thompson took a ride in his dad's cruiser today.his dad is poteau patrolman jody thompson.he's been with the department for five years.the two met under extreme circumstances.officer thompson showed up at a child abuse call in 2015. investigators say, john was bound and in a barrel.they believe at the hands of his biological parents.the little boy broke free and this officer took him to the hospital... waited by his side as he recovered in the intensive care unit áand decided he never wanted to leave him.q: "what was the moment that you knew that this was your son?""when i seen him -- when i seen him in that house i knew."officer thompson and his wife adopted john.it was a long process, but the little boy now has the same last name as patrolman thompson.he's a straight a student in the gifted and talented program and loves his dad.

(vicki) john says his dad is the reason why he's here right now. john's biological mother gave birth to a baby girl in jail. officer thompson's family took her in as well. on illegal fireworks in the bay area. it is one of the biggest busts law enforcement has made yet. good evening... i'm pam moore.( steve ) two people have been arrested tonight, one for poseession thousands of dollars of illegal fireworks, the other for manufacturing illegal fireworks. the busts happened in san leandro and hayward. kron 4's dan kerman is live at the sheriff's office in alameda county to show us the goods (dan kerman)while serving a search warrant for weapons at a motorcycle club in hayward, this is what the alameda county sheriff's gang unit discovered 3260 pounds of illegal fireworks.sot sgt. ray kelly/alameda county sheriffs office 11-18this haul of fireworks some of which shoot balls of flame, has an estimated street value of 30 to 50 thousand

dollars.and are any thing but safe or sanesotthese are aerials, they are rocket propelled and they explode, most of them shoot aerial mortors and the problem with that is every year we see serious injuries and fatalities as a result of these types of fireworks. sheriff's officials say this haul likely came into california from nevada or arizona in the meantime, hours later, an undercover bust in haywardsotthe home lab was on holyoke avenue authorities say they discovered it after a 17 year old tried to sell them fireworks on craigslistsot 120/the community ( steve ) this is just the latest in a series of busts we have seen in recent weeks. this is the stash that was found at a newark home. investigators say the seller was advertising on craigslist and they simply responded to the post. when they showed up and searched the home... they found hundreds of pounds of illegal fireworks. the 21-year-old suspect was arrested. we have also heard of several busts in the south bay.... with thousands of pounds of explosives seized since april.

(maureen)the city's fire department says the best and safest option for fireworks is to come out here to the waterfront to check out the big free professional show scheduled for 9:30 the night of fourth. because unless you've got the blessing of the fire marshal and the police chief all other fireworks are illegal to set off or even possess inside city limits. fireworks including safe and sane fireworks contributed over 40% of actual fires and injuries every year on the fourth of july. while they are considered a family tradition for many....fireworks can cause injury.i've seen an individual with half of his face blown off from a mortar shell this is a grown adult and this is a life-changing event for that person it's very sad to see something like that on a day where were supposed to be celebratingeven sparklers which seem like harmless fun and are often

given to children can cause thrid degree burns.those burn at about 1800 agrees and 18000 is hot enough to melt gold. the city's dispatch center are both expecting a busy night on the fourth and will be boosting their staffing that night.. as this map shows the active calls in the city....it will be a lot more crowded on tuesday after dark. the citys fire and police will be responding to reports of illegal fireworks but the department of emergency management asks that those calls go to the police department's non emergency line.but if there's a life safety for property damage involved then yes please call 911 for thatyou can find that number on our website....kron4 -dot com.maureen kelly kron4 news. officer was off-duty. at this time, the police department says, it does not appear anything criminal took place .... but an internal investigation is underway. in a separate incident.. the department is also looking into the discovery of some drugs locked in a cabinet. right now, the department says, these incidents are not related .. we are told... the drug discovery is being treated as a criminal investigation. ( steve ) an update on our big story from last night. three fires in the mount hamilton area near san jose are mostly contained tonight. they erupted at about 2 p-m yesterday and came dangerously close to some homes. firefighters and neighbors managed to hold off the flames. the fires burned about 85 acres... at this time there is no word on a cause. a shocking scene on a busy freeway in southern california today......when a small plane made a crash landing... and burst into flames.. catherine heenan is here with details of what happened on interstate-

405 this morning.. (catherine) commuters saw a ball of flame.....and some of them got a lot closer.. when the cessna crashed....the c-h-p says four cars were hit by parts of the plane, although those drivers weren't hurt.. the two people on board - a husband and wife - were taken to the hospital with traumatic injuries. we now know that the pilot shouted "may day" four times in less than a minute and said he was trying to make it back to the airport. he had just taken off from john wayne airport - and told an air traffic controller that oneof the engines had failed. an off-duty firefighter rescued the two people from the wreckage. authorities say the pilot was trying desperately to land in the midst of lots of traffic...when he realized he wouldn't make it to the airport. captain larry kurtzthe plane collided, spun across the freeway and burst into flame. both paients were alive and were extracted from the aircraft and they were

transported to local area trauma center where they are continuing to get or receive treatment. the plane was attempting to re-land on runway 20 right at john wayne airport. debris from the plane was strewn across several lanes of the freeway...and traffic was backed up for several miles. the two people injured haven't been publicly identified yet..... and there are no details on their condition.. pam and vicki? (steve) a new york city hospital was put on lock down today after reports of an active shooter. (pam) several people were shot and one person was killed ... it all happened at one of the city's busiest hospitals. sonia moghe (moe-gee) with our partners at c-n-n with what we know tonight about the gunman. mos/employee: "i'm just glad i'm safe cause i dont know what else to say, it was just a scary situation." there was chaos and confusion in new york city today, after a man with an assault rifle walked

into one of the city's busiest hospitals and started shooting mos/employee: "all i heard all of the sudden was the hospital was on lockdown and then i basically told us to, i basically panicked."police say the shooter killed a doctor and injured six other people before taking his own life -- at bronx lebanon hospital. mayor bill de blasio/new york city: "our hearts go out to the family of the doctor who passed away and our hearts and solidarity for all those who were wounded and fighting for their lives right now." according to officials-- the suspect has beenidentified as doctor henry bello-- a former hospital employee bello was wearing a white lab coat and a hospital id when he opened fire. police say he attempted to light himself on fire before ultimately turning the gun on himself. mayor bill de blasio/new york city: "this was a situation unfolding in the middle of a place that people associate with care and comfort, a situation that came out of nowhere." in new york city, i'm sonia moghe.

renewed hope in the search for a young man from montara... who has been missing now ... for more than a month. yesterday -- a woman found 22-year-old richard moss' triple-a card in the sand at montara state beach, behind la costanera restaurant... and, that's where kron four's philippe djegal reports -- volunteers searched today. (philippe) with rakes... nats- raking metal detectors and their bare hands...dan stegink/family friend- "we're gonna keep searching until we find him." close friends of richard moss' family, like dan stegink (stuh-jink)...dan stegink/family friend- "it's, uh, something that can happen to anybody's kid." and, complete strangers scour montara state beach -- looking for any signs of the missing 22-year-old electrician, described as a passionate skateboarder and gamer.judy ayala/searcher- "i want the family to have closure to know where their son is." there

had been no clues in richard moss' disapperance ever since he vanished on may 25th... until thursday afternoon... when a passerby found his triple-a card laying here on the beach.dan stegink/family friend- "we've always kind of operated under the assumption that he's, uh, somewhere in that 1.3 mile stretch between the south exit of tom lantos tunnels and, uh, this beach right here." sadly, since it's been more than a month since richard moss went missing... stegink says, unfortunately, this is looking more like a recovery, rather than a rescue. and, that it's possible richard's car ended up in the ocean.greg keeney/volunteer- "maybe the car went into the water up there a little bit and its just starting to, things are starting to show up maybe. so, you never know." richard is orginally from hawaii, but lives here in montara, while his father still lives on the island. stegink is a good friend of richard's dad, who says dan moss is struggling without his son.dan stegink/family friend- "you know, dan moss wants to find his kid." here's a picture of richard's car and his license plate number. the san mateo county sheriff's office is also helping out...

( steve )(on camthere is no longer reason to fear becoming infected with tuberculosis at 24-hour fitness in vallejothat is according to solano county public health officials who say they were notified back on june 16th that a member of the fitness center tested positive with the highly contagious disease. they say that individual is currently receiving treatment. the solano county health department says the person infected with tuberculosis

stacey/solano county public health: "the 24 hour fitness center is safe. there is no further risk of tb individual at the most of those any risk of being so in addition to that notification to all the members who spend time in the health are out individuals who may have had even closer contact with the individual, so that we can work with those people get needed treated">the solano treated">the solano county health department says the person infected with tuberculosis has not been inside the vallejo 24 hour fitness since may of 2017. they admit, however, they do not know how many times the person previously worked out at that location. health officials advise anyone concerned that they may have been exposed to t-b to contact a physician right away. ( pam ) if the sierra is in your plans for the holiday weekend... it could be the best of both worlds. the weather is nice enough that you could go for a swim in lake tahoe... and ski at some of the resorts. there is so much snow in the mountains left from the winter storms ... a few resorts are still open and will remain so... through the fourth of july. it is a unique summer opportunity that a lot of people are taking advantage of this weekend.

(pam) in the south bay.. a woman who was reportedly run over and killed by her friend... has been identified. 23-year old sally hernandez ... was hit tuesday morning on leigh avenue and montemar way in campbell... she suffered major injuries and died later that day. the suspect has been identified.... as 23-year old elsie de la rosa... she was seen by witnesses... driving

away from the scene.. police later arrested her for murder and felony hit and run.. a friend of the victim says, hernandez was the godmother... to one of de la rosa's children. it is ánotá yet clear what led to the incident. this is campbell's first murder in two years.. ( steve ) an update on a big case we are following on a missing boy out of southern california. the father... aramazd andressian... has just been extradited from las vegas to the los angeles area. he is charged with killing his five-year-old son. the boy was last seen in april right before his father was supposed to return him to his mother. andressian was found passed out in his car pasadena in what investigators are calling a failed suicide attempt. they theorize that the boy was killed as part of a messy divorce. homeless census in santa clara county shows a shocking increase in the number of young people living on the streets.(2-shot bam/pam) at the same time, as kron four's rob fladeboe reports now, homeless advocates stepped up their action.. in defying a crackdown on feeding homeless people in st. james park in downtown san jose. pastor scott wagers of cham deliverance ministries addressing a group of volunteers on friday before they fanned out into st. james park, handing out granola bars, fruit and water to the homeless in defiance of looming action to put a stop to the practice.pastor scott wagers/homeless advocate "...what we're saying is that we have an inherent right as churches to practice our constitutional rights to ensure that homeless people get fed...."the problem is that doing so is technically illegal even though the city has not been enforcingthe law. but that may soon change amid

replacement for it later. whether or not that will happen remains to be seen. lawmakers are supposed to be going on break for the fourth of july holiday. they had targeted that date for a vote. at the moment, republicans have been unable to muster the votes needed in the senate to pass their own bill.
