( marty ) nearly 20 cats were found abandoned near the humane society in vallejo last week. and now they are looking for a permanent home. kron four's jeff pierce - has the story. the manager of the humane society of the north bay in vallejo was left with a startling discovery as he left the shelter earlier this week. i pulled out of the gate, jumped out of my car to close the gate, looked over to my left and saw these wire kennels.inside he found seventeen cats.all the black cats were in one kennel and all the mixed cats were in another kennel.they are now being cared for at the shelter. they are shy and puzzled in their new surroundings. most all have some serious health issues.all most every single one of them has dental disease so we've got a lot of work to do for them.work that will be expensive.we're looking at three hundred to maybe a thousand dollars per cat.to help defray these costs the shelter relys on donations to their second chance fund.the second chance fund is there so that we can spend the money to

( marty ) swimming, boating, and other types of water fun might be in your plans for the long weekend, but depending on where you are, getting in the water could make you sick - or worse. toxic blue-green algae has already had tragic consequences in napa county. kron four's spencer blake has details on a neighborhood mourning the loss of two pets that were poisoned by the algae tainted water. stella and ellie mae came to this walking trail on edgerly island in napa county all the time.the two dogs apparently liked to go swimming in the huichica creek area.last week, it proved deadly because of the thick blue-green algae contaminating the water."a lot of people have dogs out - i don't, but a lot of people have pets they're really attached to. i'm really sorry to hear that."virginia blackard also takes her dogs

"since we heard about what happened they're on their leashes and just right next to us if we take them off. not in the water or sniffing around in anything."blackard and her partner were on their way to put flowers out for the two pets that passed away."we saw a poster of the dogs and a little blurb about what happened and flowers started to show up so we decided to add to it; we felt for the family.""and it's not just going in the water that can make you sick; county officials say it's best to stay away from it altogether." blue-green algae toxin could make you sick with flu-like symptoms, give you mouth ulcers, or at very least irritate your eyes and skin. now, with the passing of two dogs, fourth of july plans might have to change - not only here, but also in oakland, where lake temescal is closed for the same blue- algae problem.county health officers say it's best to avoid áany water that has a lot of algae or scum floating in it.in napa county, spencer blake, kron four news.
