(vicki) and the first half of the season comes to a merciful end for the san francisco giants. (grant) we've now reached the all-star break...the mid-point of what's been a miserable year for the giants. the club that's been so used to winning over the last several years...is now one of the worst teams in the league. mark carpenter joins us with some insight on how this season has been historically bad. mark? (mark) at this time last year, the giants had the best record in baseballl. and now, they are among the worst. their 56-losses is the most in franchise history at the all-star break... and there is nothing to indicate this slump is close to ending anytime soon. "hit well to left. williamson back and gone! stanton has done it again." it doesn't matter... at home... or on the road... teams have had their way with the giants. and the

franchise that's won three world championships since 2010 is seeing this season slip away. "driven to pence and pence has to get by him and he slips." the giants are looking up at everyone... 27-games out of first place.. 17-and-a half out of the wild card. and bruce bochy...is left thinking of ways to explain explain what's going wrong. "you try to fix a hole in the damn there in the dyke and put your finger in it and another one springs open. that's what we are trying to get straight here." hitting and pitching...key ingredients for success in this sport... and the giants aren't particularly good at either. their staff of arms...has surrendered the 5th most earned runs... and the offense is near dead last in runs scored. a recent six- game win streak seemed to indicate a turnaround was in order, but then they stumble into the break with 4-straight losses. "we came home, then we get shut down and then score all these runs and we still lose. that goes with a tough half and a tough season, you get the pitching, you don't hit enough. you score runs,
5:46 pm
you don't get the pitching and that's kind of what's happened."mc, kron4 news (mark) another one of the many reasons the giants haven't done well is the loss of madison bumgarner. he injured his shoulder in a dirtbike accident back in april, but he is on his way to returning to the rotation. he'll make another rehab start tonight in san jose, and is expected to rejoin the team this weekend.
