firefighters are currently on the scene of a two-alarm fire at a commercial building in newark, fire officials said. according to an alameda county fire dispatcher, the fire was first reported at 2:13 a.m. at a commercial building in the area of central avenue and timber street. according to the dispatcher, three trucks caught fire and the blaze spread to the building. there are no reports of injuries and crews are on the scene, the dispatcher said. further details were not immediately available.

(tiffany) crews were removing the final pieces of the sunken barge vengence. the vengence sank south of the bay bridge back in april, and the removal has been a monthly process. in this video you can see cranes lifting pieces of the barge from the bottom of the bay. crews say there are two large pieces and it will take up to a week to finish removing them. (tiffany) u-c berkeley college republicans are asking another conservative speaker to come to the campus. this time it's author and talk show host ben shapiro. the college republicans announced the event on facebook. they're billing it as "ben shapiro vs. berkeley" in the post they write " can ben shapiro do what other conservatives could not?" they say find out on september 14-th. now u-c berkeley is responding saying: we want to state unequivocally that mr. shapiro is welcome on

the berkeley campus they go on to say: our police department will also begin a security assessment, as required by standing policy. that assessment can, of course, lead our law enforcement professionals to offer important security- related recommendations. including guidance for the timing and location of an event. (tiffany) you may remember earlier this year the college republicans tried hosting two other controversial speakers. those events triggered protests one even turned violent. in february alt-right speaker milo yiannopoulos was scheduled to speak on campus. that sparked angry protests and violence. the speech had to be cancelled . and the protests caused more than 100- thousand dollars in damage to the university. (tiffany) a few months later the college repubplicans announced an appearance by ann coulter. aft consulting with police the university cancelled that event citing public safety concerns. the student group insisted coulter was still coming. but eventually she backed out.

there were protests on campus on the day she was originally supposed to speak. but they were relatively peaceful. although there were seven arrests. (tiffany) federal investigators are now involved after a plane at s-f-o nearly landed on a taxiway filled with planes. but an air traffic controller jumped in likely preventing disaster just before midnight friday kron-4's philippe djegal talked with a retired pilot who is stunned by the almost costly mistake. airplane, you're going to make a big splash." the federal aviation administration says just before midnight friday... an air canada airbus cleared to land on runway 28- right... for some reason, instead lined up to land on taxiway c -- where four planes were preparing to take off. before landing and potentially crashing, the f- a-a says an air traffic controller had the air canada airline perform a go-around to avoid a collision. on it's second approach, the plane landed safely. dick deeds says the color coordinated strip clearly separates the runways from taxiways.dick deeds/retired captain- "these are the approach lights, these are the touchdown lights, these are the runway side lights and you notice they are in yellow. and, you have other lights here in blue, and here its blue. those are the taxiway lights. so, the pilot always knows which is the runway and which is the taxiway." the f-a-a says it is now investigating the

(tiffany) welcome back to the kron 4 morning news. here is a look at the major headlines before you head out the door this morning.... one officer and a skateboarder are now hospitalized following a mob incident at san francisco's dolores park. police say a skateboarder lost control while riding down a hill and crashed into an officer and then hit a police car. police say people from the crowd began throwing objects at them. no one was arrested. two police cars were vandalized. and... a rat was spotted

at a restaurant in daly city, and it was all caught on camera. it happened at "updside down burger" over the weekend. the man who recorded this video says he was eating with his family when a lady jumped up and started screaming. the owner of "upside down burger" says this is not a building problem or the health department would have shut them down too. he says they have a cleaning company come every night to the restaurant. firefighters are still on the scene of a wild fire that burned two homes and severely damaged another. firefighters say wind and dry grass helped the flames spread fast. more than 100 acres were burned. 11 homes are under mandatory evacuation orders. no one was hurt and it's not clear how the fire started. (tiffany) twitter users who have been blocked by president trump's personal twitter account are now suing him. a series of individuals along with a first amendment rights group filed the lawsuit. a lot of the

(tiffany) in oroville, some four-thousand people still can't go home as the wall fire continues to burn. the fire has now burned 58- hundred acres. it is 55 percent contained. cal fire says the fire has now destroyed more than 40 homes. four people have been injured in this fire. more than 5-thousand buildings are still being threatened this morning. and in southern california... the whittier fire in santa barbara county is nearly 50 percent contained. the fire has forced about 35-hundred people to flee their homes. so far...no one has been injured. that fire has burned more than 11- thousand acres. we are expecting an update on containment efforts on both of these fires later the morning. back to you in the studio. . . more than a dozen police agencies have publicly opposed the ( mark ) new this morning... takata is adding nearly three million more airbags to the largest automotive recall in u-s history. the new recall affects cars made by ford... mazda and nissan between 2005 and 2012. takata has not yet said which models are affected. the japanese company says a chemical drying agent could cause driver side airbags to rupture. this is in addition to faulty inflators that blast shrapnel into drivers and passengers. those inflators have resulted in the recall of tens of millions of cars. they have also been linked to more than dozen deaths around the world. ( darya ) a santa cruz man survives a shark attack on his kayak that happened near seabright state beach. you can see the teeth marks left in steve lawson's kayak. lawson said he struggled to stay afloat as the shark knocked him around. he was eventually knocked over into the water but he says by that time the shark had already disappeared. lawson says he has gone in the water almost every day for the past 25 years and this is the first time he has had a close call like this. ( darya ) warning signs were put up along the beach telling people to stay out of the water for the next 4 days. lawson says he plans to be back out on the water again today. police are looking for a man who harassed a woman in south san francisco. it happened last night on the sister cities park trail near south magnolia avenue. the 18-year-old woman says the man riding a scooter approached her from behind he then slapped her butt, pulled on her sleeve and the road off. police have not yet released a description of the attacker who's facing misdemeanor sexual assault charges ( mark ) happening now... firefighters are making progress on several fires burning across california. tiffany mcelroy is at the breaking news desk with the details. tiffany. francisco will hear arguments on whether an animal can own the copyright to a photograph. a lawsuit was filed by "peta" in 20-15, allowing the group to administer all proceeds from the photos for the benefit of the monkey, named naruto.( darya ) the photos were taken by a british photographer's camera. he says the british copyright for the photos should be honored worldwide. ( mark ) a federal judge last year ruled that the monkey cannot be declared the photos' copyright owner. ( darya ) a santa cruz man survives a shark attack on his kayak that happened near seabright state beach. you can see the teeth marks left in steve lawson's kayak. lawson said he struggled to stay afloat as the shark knocked him around. he was eventually knocked over into the water but he says by that time the shark had already disappeared. lawson says he has gone in the water almost every day for the past 25 years and this is the first time he has had a close call like this. ( darya ) warning signs were put up along the beach telling people to stay out of the water for the next 4 days.

( mark ) spending time looking for parking could be costing you hundreds of dollars.( darya ) according to a new report released this morning... drivers spend an average of 17 hours per year looking for parking spots. that time can cost you more 300 dollars per year in wasted time and gas. the study says that one of the biggest costs to drivers is not being able to accurately estimate how long they will be parked. the study found that overpaying for parking in order to avoid getting a parking ticket costs americans 20 billion dollars per year. that adds up to nearly 100 dollars per person. san francisco came in third on the list of the worst cities for parking. new york was number one.

( mark ) police have identified the man who was shot and killed in san francisco's miion district early monday morning. you saw it as breaking news right here on the kron4 morning news. 35-year-old jesus sandoval was killed on 24th and mission streets early monday morning. he died in front of a bar. police have not released any information about his killer. nearly three million more airbags to the largest automotive recall in u-s history. the new recall affects cars made by ford... mazda and nissan between 2005 and 2012. takata has not yet said which models are affected. the japanese company says a chemical drying agent could cause driver side airbags to rupture. this is in addition to faulty inflators that blast shrapnel into drivers and passengers. those inflators have resulted in the recall of tens of millions of cars. they have also been linked to more than dozen deaths around the world.
