firefighters are currently on the scene of a two-alarm fire at a commercial building in newark, fire officials said. according to an alameda county fire dispatcher, the fire was first reported at 2:13 a.m. at a commercial building in the area of central avenue and timber street. according to the dispatcher, three trucks caught fire and the blaze spread to the building. there are no reports of injuries and crews are on the scene, the dispatcher said. further details were not immediately available.

(tiffany) crews were removing the final pieces of the sunken barge vengence. the vengence sank south of the bay bridge back in april, and the removal has been a monthly process. in this video you can see cranes lifting pieces of the barge from the bottom of the bay. crews say there are two large pieces and it will take up to a week to finish removing them. (tiffany) u-c berkeley college republicans are asking another conservative speaker to come to the campus. this time it's author and talk show host ben shapiro. the college republicans announced the event on facebook. they're billing it as "ben shapiro vs. berkeley" in the post they write " can ben shapiro do what other conservatives could not?" they say find out on september 14-th. now u-c berkeley is responding saying: we want to state unequivocally that mr. shapiro is welcome on

airplane, you're going to make a big splash." the federal aviation administration says just before midnight friday... an air canada airbus cleared to land on runway 28- right... for some reason, instead lined up to land on taxiway c -- where four planes were preparing to take off. before landing and potentially crashing, the f- a-a says an air traffic controller had the air canada airline perform a go-around to avoid a collision. on it's second approach, the plane landed safely. dick deeds says the color coordinated strip clearly separates the runways from taxiways.dick deeds/retired captain- "these are the approach lights, these are the touchdown lights, these are the runway side lights and you notice they are in yellow. and, you have other lights here in blue, and here its blue. those are the taxiway lights. so, the pilot always knows which is the runway and which is the taxiway." the f-a-a says it is now investigating the

distance between the air canada aircraft and the jets that were lined up on taxiway c.dick deeds/retired captain- "i don't know if the captain was flying, or the co-pilot was flying, or how tired they were, how long they'd been up, cause fatigue enters into these situations too. that will come out in the investigation." deeds says incidents like these are very rare. thankfully, this one ended with a safe landing. philippe djegal, kron four news. at a restaurant in daly city, and it was all caught on camera. it happened at "updside down burger" over the weekend. the man who recorded this video says he was eating with his family when a lady jumped up and started screaming. the owner of "upside down burger" says this is not a building problem or the health department would have shut them down too. he says they have a cleaning company come every night to the restaurant. firefighters are still on the scene of a wild fire that burned two homes and severely damaged another. firefighters say wind and dry grass helped the flames spread fast. more than 100 acres were burned. 11 homes are under mandatory evacuation orders. no one was hurt and it's not clear how the fire started. (tiffany) twitter users who have been blocked by president trump's personal twitter account are now suing him. a series of individuals along with a first amendment rights group filed the lawsuit. a lot of the

(tiffany) in oroville, some four-thousand people still can't go home as the wall fire continues to burn. the fire has now burned 58- hundred acres. it is 55 percent contained. cal fire says the fire has now destroyed more than 40 homes. four people have been injured in this fire. more than 5-thousand buildings are still being threatened this morning. and in southern california... the whittier fire in santa barbara county is nearly 50 percent contained. the fire has forced about 35-hundred people to flee their homes. so far...no one has been injured. that fire has burned more than 11- thousand acres. we are expecting an update on containment efforts on both of these fires later the morning. back to you in the studio. . . (tiffany) this all started when police were called to the scene at around eight- thirty last night. take a look at the video... police say a skate boarder lost control while riding down a hill and crashed into an officer and then hit a police car. you can see the crowd gathered here at the park. police say people from the crowd began throwing objects at them. no one was arrested. two police

vandalized. this morning we haven't been told the extent of the injuries of the officer or the boarder.in the studio. . ( darya ) a santa cruz man survives a shark attack on his kayak that happened near seabright state beach. you can see the teeth marks left in steve lawson's kayak. lawson said he struggled to stay afloat as the shark knocked him around. he was eventually knocked over into the water but he says by that time the shark had already disappeared. lawson says he has gone in the water almost every day for the past 25 years and this is the first time he has had a close call like this. ( darya ) warning signs were put up along the beach telling people to stay out of the water for the next 4 days. lawson says he plans to be back out on the water again today. ( mark ) u-c berkeley college

republicans are asking another conservative speaker to come to the campus. this time it's author and talk show host ben shapiro. the college republicans announced the event on facebook. they're billing it as "ben shapiro versus berkeley" the event is scheduled for september 14th. now u-c berkeley is responding to the event saying: we want to state unequivocally that mister shapiro is welcome on the berkeley campus they go on to say: our police department will also begin a security assessment, as required by standing policy. ( mark ) earlier this year the college republicans tried hosting two other controversial speakers. those events triggered protests that turned violent. in february, controversial speaker milo yiannopoulos was scheduled to speak on campus. that sparked angry protests and violence. the speech had to be cancelled . and the protests caused more than 100- thousand dollars in damage to the university. ( mark ) a few months later the college republicans announced an appearance by ann coulter. after consulting

with police the university cancelled that event citing public safety concerns. the student group insisted coulter was still coming. but eventually she backed out. there were protests on campus on the day she originally supposed to speak. ( darya ) it could have been the deadliest plane crash in american history. and now federal investigators are trying to figure out how a plane at s-f-o nearly landed on a taxiway filled with other planes.( mark ) kron4's philippe djegal has the story. airplane, you're going to make a big splash." the federal aviation administration says just before midnight friday... an air canada airbus cleared to land on runway 28- right... for some reason, instead lined up to land on taxiway c -- where four planes were preparing to take off. before landing and potentially crashing, the f- a-a says an air traffic controller had the air canada airline perform a go-around to avoid a collision. on it's second approach, the plane landed safely. dick deeds says the color coordinated strip clearly separates the runways from taxiways.dick deeds/retired captain- "these are the approach lights, these are the touchdown lights, these are the runway side lights and you notice they are in yellow. and, you have other lights here in blue, and here its blue. those are the taxiway lights. so, the pilot always knows which is the runway and which is the taxiway." the f-a-a says it is now investigating the distance between the air

( mark ) several cities in the east bay have received new bicycles as part of a new bike share program. ford go-bike provided four-hundred

bicycles at 40 stations throughout oakland, berkeley and emeryville. officials say there are stations all across the cities and memberships can be as low as 5-dollars. ( mark ) organizers plan to stock more than one hundred stations with 15-hundred bikes by september. ( darya ) happening today... the senate will begin conformation hearings for the new f-b-i director. christopher wray will appear in front of the senate judiciary committee in just a few hours. wray previously served as assistant attorney general in charge of the justice department's criminal division under president george w. bush. before that, he was an assistant u-s attorney for the northern district of georgia. wray was appointed by president trump after former director james comey was fired by the president. president trump's personal twitter account are now suing him. a first amendment rights group filed the lawsuit yesterday. some of the people say they have been blocked just because they have criticized the president for his policies. an attorney representing the group says the president's twitter account is a public forum and people cannot be blocked. ( mark ) there is a new hoax on facebook that is making its way onto people's feeds.( darya ) kron 4's tech reporter gabe slate has the details. here's a look at the viral message being passed around on facebook and twitter it gives a warning to not accept a friend request from someone named jayden k. smith because he is a hacker and if you do you could be hacked and your sensitive information compramised.. the message goes on asking readers to pass on the information to everyone in their facebook messenger contacts list. so well meaning people have done this trying to protect their friends and family and and in-ad-vert-ent-ly spread the hoax. stand up- gabe slate tech reporter says: -

( lydia )i just spoke with firefighters and they just told me that people who live in this neighborhood are now being allowed into their homes. you can see the flames destroyed this home behind me....it's located in the foothills of san jose.the fire broke out tuesday just before 5pm and grew to 100 acres near claitor way.the blaze destroyed one home and damaged another.eleven nearby homes were evacuated.no injuries have been reported.the berryessa community center at 3050 berryessa road is open to

residents affected by the fire. so far, less than 10 people were assisted. visitors were also evacuated from alum rock park as firefighters worked to keep the flames from spreading to the park. i was at the park early this morning and saw that it was shut down. there are firefighters just a few feet from where i'm standing.they told me they have a pretty good handle on the fire... just monitoring hot spots at this time. reporting live in san jose, lydia pantazes kron4 news. (will)fire investigators will arrive later this morning a commercial building in newark that caught fire.it started at 2-15 in the morning at a kitchen and remodeling business located on central avenue just off of 880the fire started outside the building when at least two cars burst into flamesfirefighters were able to keep the fire from spreading into the building or to the other nearby businesses. the building has sprinklers inside which helped knock down the flames... stopping the fire from causing a lot of damagethe alameda county fire department says any time parked cars catch fire it is always considered suspicious

(tiffany) federal officials got their first look inside the burned out building. this is video of the charred remains from quad-copter four. kron four was at the scene as investigators looked for clues in hopes of determining whether it is a case of arson. mayor libby schaaf says a special meeting has been set at the end of the week to discuss how to make sure construction sites in the city are protected.

can better coordinate public and private resources to tremendously increase safety at construction sites.">( tiffany ) the complex under construction had security guards monitoring the site 24-hours a day, and surveillance cameras. investigators are now reviewing video for more clues. it's not clear how long it will take to determine a cause of the fire. back to you in the studio. . ( mark ) happening today... water customers in the east bay can expect to see their bills go up. the east bay mud board has voted to raise water rates. customers will see their bill go up 19-percent over the next two years. those rate hikes go into effect starting today. frustrated people packed a meeting yesterday... asking the board to not implement the rate hike. some people feel they are being punished for conserving water.

member voted in favor of the increase. east bay mud has raised water rates an average of seven percent annually for the last 10 years. the board says the extra money will be used to keep the system running and repair aging pipes. prices will increase again on july first of next year. proposal in san jose to house the homeless in portable, temporary structures near a popular park. neighbors in the area started a petition opposing the plan. the city is hoping to build housing communities like this one in eugene, oregon. the "emergency bridge housing community" would hold up to 25 people in 20 pod-like units on city-owned land. city officials are considering putting the homes across from thousand oaks park. park neighbors are worried about crime, litter and the potential impact on property values.

police are looking for a man who harassed a woman in south san francisco. it happened last night on the sister cities park trail near south magnolia avenue. the 18-year-old woman says the man riding a scooter approached her from behind he then slapped her butt, pulled on her sleeve and the road off. police have not yet released a description of the attacker who's facing misdemeanor sexual assault charges ( mark ) happening now... firefighters are making progress on several fires burning across california. tiffany mcelroy is at the breaking news desk with the details. tiffany. (tiffany) in oroville, some four-thousand people still can't go home as the wall fire continues to burn. the fire has now burned 58- hundred acres. it is 55 percent contained. cal fire says the flames have now destroyed more than 40 homes. four people have been injured in this fire. more than 5-thousand buildings are still being threatened this morning. and in southern california... the whittier fire in santa barbara county is nearly 50 percent contained. it has forced about

35-hundred people to flee their homes. so far...no one has been injured. that fire has burned more than 11- thousand acres. we are expecting an update on containment efforts on both of these fires later the morning. back to you in the studio. . . ( darya ) a home sitting on the edge of a landslide in the east bay is now for sale... and has a big price tag. the four-bedroom three-bath home in lafayette is not stable to live in. but it is on the market for 850-thousand dollars. the backyard collapsed during the winter rains and needs a new retaining wall, which won't come cheap. the listing agent says she won't show the home to anybody who can't afford to fix it. the home was listed on friday and there is already one buyer who put in an offer.

your kids are going to lafayette schools which is on the best schools in the state california.">( darya ) five other developers and investors also say they are interested in fixing up the home. ( mark ) six people are recovering this morning after a helicopter crash in northern california. it happened in kingvale which is along i-80 near lake tahoe. the pg&e contracted helicopter hit a tree and landed on its side. the helicopter was conducting an inspection of a p-g-and-e hydro facility. the n-t-s-b is now trying to figure out what caused the chopper to crash. ( mark ) people flying to the u-s from four foreign airports still affected by the electronics ban may soon be able to bring their laptops on planes. the department of homeland security says if security measures are increased at the airports then the laptop restriction will be removed. in march, the u-s banned electornic devices larger than a smart phone on flights coming from 10 airports in eight countries in the middle east and north africa. francisco will hear arguments on whether an animal can own the copyright to a photograph. a lawsuit was filed by "peta" in 20-15, allowing the group to administer all proceeds from the photos for the benefit of the monkey, named naruto.( darya ) the photos were taken by a british photographer's camera. he says the british copyright for the photos should be honored worldwide. ( mark ) a federal judge last year ruled that the monkey cannot be declared the photos' copyright owner. ( darya ) you may remember last week we told you about a documentary claiming to show a picture of amelia earhart after her disapearance. now that theory is being debunked...( mark ) the photo showed a number of people on the dock in the marshall islands. the documentary claimed that's where she crashed and was then taken prisoner by the japanese military.( darya ) now two bloggers say they found the same picture in a travel book that came out in 1935.

test phase at this time. right now they are also being tested in las vegas and south florida. ( mark ) spending time looking for parking could be costing you hundreds of dollars.( darya ) according to a new report released this morning... drivers spend an average of 17 hours per year looking for parking spots. that time can cost you more 300 dollars per year in wasted time and gas. the study says that one of the biggest costs to drivers is not being able to accurately estimate how long they will be parked. the study found that overpaying for parking in order to avoid getting a parking ticket costs americans 20 billion dollars per year. that adds up to nearly 100 dollars per person. san francisco came in third on the list of the worst cities for parking. new york was number one.

nearly three million more airbags to the largest automotive recall in u-s history. the new recall affects cars made by ford... mazda and nissan between 2005 and 2012. takata has not yet said which models are affected. the japanese company says a chemical drying agent could cause driver side airbags to rupture. this is in addition to faulty inflators that blast shrapnel into drivers and passengers. those inflators have resulted in the recall of tens of millions of cars. they have also been linked to more than dozen deaths around the world. ( darya ) the deadly oakland ghost ship warehouse fire continues to have an impact on artists around california. dozens of artists in sacramento are being forced out of their studio after a city code enforcement inspection declared their building dangerous. the century old ceramics factory was converted into a studio space about a decade ago. city officials found 13 building code
