breaking overnight.... firefighters have contained a three-alarm structure fire in lafayette. here's video of the blaze. it first broke out just after midnight on 80 lafayette circle. the fire was contained just before 1 am. fire officials also say the building was a "total loss." there are no reports of injuries. kron 4's will tran will have more details in a live report in about 30 minutes.. (tiffany) our top story this morning... police are on the hunt for a woman who stole money from teens who were holding a bake sale. it happened in cotati. kron 4's j.r. stone talked with the teen musicians who were raising money for a once in-a- lifetime trip to disneyland. call this woman what you want but police say her name is michelle kruse. they she's 41 years old and she scammed high school band students out of their bake sale money on monday outside of oliver's market in cotati.sot we were all really upseti was in tears all of us werelike oh my god this woman took advantage of us.officers say kruse, who is on the loose right now, used a fake 100 dollar bill to get a rice krispie treat, brownie, and piece of cake. she gave the students the fake bill and they gave her 80 dollars of real money in changescamming kids out of money that would have gone towards their music program at rancho cotate high school in rohnert park.

sotsomething the students did on their ownsurveillance video captured kruse walking around inside oliver's market before she left her cart, left the store, and eventually made her way to the bake sale. students say they have been trying to save money for their special yearly trip to disneyland.sot never really happened with any of our fund raisers and it happened to happen to us this year when we are trying to go to disney and march down main street.sot the opportunity to march down main street has been a dream of mine every since i was a kid. evan crow is a junior who was the one who noticed that the bill was fake.he chased after kruse's car but was unsuccessull in catching her. sot almost hit me..she just basically robbed us of 80 dollars because she asked for 80 dollars in change.

(tiffany) another big story we're following this morning is in benicia... that's where four women robbed a c-v-s. it happened on monday. and the pharmacy's surveillance cameras recorded the whole thing. four women rushed in and went straight to the allergy

medication isle and quickly loaded multiple bags before taking off. they are described as four women between 20 to 30 years old. and some benicia residents are worried about others, especially older people who might need the medicine that was stolen. (tiffany) the four women were seen leaving the cvs parking lot in a newer model charcoal grey nissan altima with blue paper plates. (tiffany) a skateboard competition down san francsico streets turns ugly after a skate boarder collides with a police officer both the skateboarder and the police officer were injured. kron4's hermela a-gar-wie has the details.

(hermela aregawi)sfpd is frustrated because they say this chaos could have been avoided altogether if the skateboarders had gotten permits.. so that they could block off some of the streets for them to ride on.they say they're aware that people are saying the officer intentionally clothlined the skateboarder.. and are looking at footage to determine if in fact that officer did something wrong.police are responding to accusations of unnecessary roughness.after an unpermitted skatebaording competition in delores park turns into chaos.police initially responded to a call about an injured skatebaorder but then became at the center of controversy surrounding another riderthat man can be scene skating down the hill.an officer appears to step into his path.they collide and the skateboarder slams into and over the police cruiser.some witnesses are now saying - the officer intentionally got in the way.officer grace gatpandan/sfpd: it's very difficult to tell from the just one video the entire picture. so we will be looking at video footage from that officer who was struck. there's body cam footage from all the officers who were on the scene, as well as any of the videos that people are uploading to social media or who want to submit that to the police department. that will be part of the overall picture that we're going to be investigating.but some witnesses say.. the officer's intentions were obvious. witness:you kind of see a trainwreck about to happen.i mean he put himself right in the path of that skater and held his ground. he could have

(tiffany) in san ramon... a masked man holds up a walgreens pharmacy at gunpoint stealing hundreds of dollars worth of opioids. take a look at your screen. police say this man walked into the walgreens on san ramon valley at around 8- yesterday morning. he went directly to the pharmacy counter. he presented a note and flashed his gun to the clerk. the suspect then took several bottles of opioids. valued at more than 300-dollars. anyone with information is urged to contact police. (tiffany) a suspect in the murder of a woman in san jose is in custody after trying to cross the mexico border. police were called to this home on south

10-th street last week after loud bangs were heard from inside the home. that's when they found 20-year-old myla dang -- shot to death. then on tuesday border patrol officers arrested daniel zeratsion on suspicion of homicide. he is now being transported back to san jose to be booked into the santa clara county jail. min from the maze to sf. (tiffany) "the fire watch" continues in the foothills of east san jose. that's where firefighters are cleaning up after tuesday's

brushfire burned homes. flames erupted late tuesday afternoon on a ridge above lariat land and claitor drive. those flames touching off a fast moving grass fire. the blaze destroyed one home and forced the evacuations of dozens of residents. the fire scorched about 120-acres burning down the canyon and into al-um rock park. (tiffany) all who were evacuated have now returned home. three firefighters suffered minor injuries. (tiffany) a fire in newark scorched several cars and damaged the outside of a commercial property. the fire started around two- yesterday morning on central avenue in newark. three trucks caught fire in front of the building and some of the flames spread to the exterior

of the business. crews say, a sprinkler system helped prevent the fire from getting inside the building. the flames spread into a nearby lumber yard and cabinet shop but the fire was extinguished in about 15- minutes. no one was injured. and no word on the cause. (tiffany) bay area firefighters are up in butte county helping battle the destructive 'wall fire' .. the san francisco fire department got a request for help on monday morning. within a few hours a 22- member strike team deployed. the wall fire has burned six thousand acres and destroyed 41- homes. six- hundred other homes are threatened. four- thousand people have been evacuated. butte county is north of sacramento near interstate five. the wall fire is 70 percent contained. (tiffany @ bam) happening now... it's been almost nine- months and, the murder of a beloved east bay attorney remains unsolved. last october jim gil-li-land was shot to death outside his home in el cerrito. as kron

four's philippe djegal reports his friends and family are escalating efforts to close this case. little did jim gilliland know that he would never see his friends and family again on october 27th... when that night he returned to his home on mira vista drive in el cerrito after church choir practice. police say it appears someone was waiting for him... shot him multiple times on his porch... then the gunman vanished. brian colucci/friend and colleague- "we worked very closely together." brian colucci (co-lew-chee) worked with gilliland at a law firm. he says jim had a lot of friends... friends who have banded together since the homicide... now, doubling the initial reward offered in this case from 50 to 100- thousand dollars... for information leading to an arrest and conviction for the murder.brian colucci/friend and colleague- "we're hopeful that, continuing to let people know that we have not forgotten about this and that we're not gonna simply, simply let it go, um, we're hoping that that's gonna create some additional awareness about this and hopefully lead to some more information." as an attorney...

gilliland practiced law for more than 35-years in state and federal courts... the police department says it has not ruled out that his homicide may be tied to his capacity as a lawyer.lt. robert de la campa/el cerrito police dept.- "we can't rule it out, because we don't know the true motive at this time." so far, police say surveillance video gathered that deadly night, has not been helpful. later this week... jim's friends will put up a billboard outside oracle arena announcing the increased reward money.brian colucci/friend and colleague- "we're a group of people with, with resources to do what we can and we're going to do it as long as we need to." this was one of two homicides reported last year in el cerrito. philippe djegal, kron four news. (tiffany) new developments in an investigation involving a military plane crash that killed 16-marines. one person could be facing charges for taking some of the crash debris. witnesses say the plane spiraled out of control crashing into a soybean field in mississippi on monday. the investigation is ongoing. and authorities have urged people to stay awy from the

(tiffany @ bam) president trump's nominee to head the f-b-i spent a lot of time disagreeing with his prospective new boss. christopher wray testified before the senate judiciary committee where the top democrat california's dianne feinstein said he has her vote. as catherine heenan reports he made a point of declaring his independence. ""no one asked me for any kind of loyalty oath at any point during this process. and i sure as heck didn't offer one." "you don't think director comey is a nut job, right?" from i-c-u early yesterday but remains hospitalized. you may remember last month scalise was shot in the hip when a gunman opened fire on a republican congressional baseball practice in virginia. he was first released from intensive care back on june 22nd following multiple surgeries. but was re- admitted to the i-c-u last week because of infection concerns. the congressional source says scalise is in serious condition. (tiffany) happening today... former president barack obama will be attending his first political event since he left office back in january. he ischeduled to attend a fundraiser for the national democratic re- districting committee. it is a new group aimed at helping democrats draw friendlier legislative district lines. the fundraiser will take place in a private home in washington. and will be hosted by former attorney general eric holder. a spokesperson for the former president says mr.obama and holder have long fought to have more fair and inclusive legislative district

(tiffany) monte rio beach in sonoma county has reopened after follow up test showed diminished levels of bacteria. the beach is open again and safe to swim. test results for bacteria were below the state guidelines. this comes after officials closed the beach july 6th after multiple test found high levels of coliform and e-coli bacteria. warning signs were posted around the area advising people to not swim in the water. those have sense been removed. (tiffany) the latest massive construction fire in oakland has sparked action from oakland's mayor. while the search continues for clues as to what caused the fire on valdez street mayor libby schaaf is telling builders she is committed to keep construction projects in her city safe. kron 4's dan kerman has the details while the cause of friday's valdez street construction site fire has not yet been

three dozen people. investigators say the cause of oakland's deadly ghost ship fire may never be known. this after a new search that took place yesterday through what is left of the warehouse to try and find how the inferno started. at least that is what the attorney representing almost all of the victims hopes. the charred remains from the warehouse were dumped at a dirt lot on oakport street by the waterfront. a team of fire experts are looking for evidence to help the victim's legal case. as searchers find items of interest they are marked, photographed and will be taken to a storage facility. out just after midnight on 80 lafayette circle. the fire was contined just before 1 am. there are no reports of injuries. and.. police in cotati are seeking the public's help in finding a woman who paid for baked goods from a fundraiser with counterfeit money. according to police the woman used a fake 100 bill to buy the baked goods from the rancho cotate high school music program. a student noticed the $100 bill was fake and attempted to contact the woman as she got into her car when the woman saw the student approach her, she sped away. also... a skateboard competition turned violent after a skateboarder crashed into an officer and into a cop car as well. both the skateboarder and the officer were injured in the collision. and now, witnesses claim the police officer knocked down the skateboarder intentially. it all happened at dolores park on tuesday. police were there responding to assist another skateboarder who had been injured in the

years water is rushing over the gates at the friant (fry- ant) dam into the san joaquin river. this is just north of fresno at the millerton lake reservoir. about two- thousand cubic feet per second of water is being released down the spill way. officials say this rarely happens in july. typically water releases of this magnitude happen in may or early june. they say this is just another sign of just how much snow is in the sierra and the runoff from when it melts. (tiffany) verizon has confirmed the personal information of six- million customers was recently leaked online. however, the company says, none of the information made it into the wrong hands. verizon says the only person who got access was the researcher who found the leak. the cyber- security company 'upguard' uncovered the issue. they said it was caused by "human error." 'upguard' alerted verizon on june 13th but the security hole was not closed until june 22nd. it

exposed customers names, addresses, and pin numbers. upguard advises customers to update their pin codes and never use the same one twice. (tiffany) a bizarre incident caught on camera when a mountain lion crashed thru an apartment window. it happened just north of sacramento. lonnie wong has the story and reaction from concerned neighbors. take a look at this security video from the apartments next door to the bowling alley.a juvenile mountain lion darts in front of a pick-up truck and crashes into the bowling alley door before running into the parking lot of the apartment complex.it was startled by a resident before crashing through this window onto the bed of a sleeping woman.she was too shaken to talk to us, but the camera shy apartment manager couldn't believe that it happened. francis muniz / apartment manager: "she was asleep and it landed on her bed and actually, at first, i think she said she thought she was dreaming it didn't seem real." the lady tenant stayed calm and opened the back door of her apartment. the big cat bleeding and probably

confused, left on cue.fish and game trackers say the disoriented mountain lion many have thought it was jumping into a cave or reacted to its reflection when it jumped into the bowling alley door and later through the apartment window.linda silk / bowling alley manager: "he hit it pretty hard because he bent the door."/"most people don't believe that a mountain lion hit it, we have to show them the pictures."john troughton / county fish and game commission: "people can be in danger when they come face to face with one of these lions." john troughton, a colusa county fish and game commissioner, says he's been concerned about the increase in mountain lion sightings in the area for several years. this deer alert sign shows there's plenty of game in the wooded areas surrounding the sacramento river, and troughton has recent pictures taken of mountain lions in the area.he says the recent incident is a wake up call. john troughton, county fish and game commission: "the reality is that lions are in this area, one of them has been in town probably more than once."he fears that mt. lions will pose a risk to pets and small children in town where people are supposed to feel safe.he wants state fish and game to take measures to assess the problem and perhaps consider a trapping and relocation program if warranted.john troughton: "they're protected, and i understand that. and i think they're very pretty, but

bridge wb 80 is less then 30 min from the maze to sf. accident in san francisco nb 101 at cesar chavez ( darya ) firefighters are mopping up after a brushfire burned homes in the east san jose foothills. flames erupted late tuesday afternoon on a ridge above lariat lane and claitor drive. the fire destroyed one home and forced dozens of people to evacuate. the fire scorched about 120- acres..burning down the canyon and into alum rock park. this morning all of the evacuees have been allowed to return home. three firefighters suffered minor injuries. ( darya ) and firefighters near oroville are making progress battling a wildfire in butte county. this is happening north of sacramento near interstate- five. the wall fire has burned more than

six- thousand acres. it is 70-percent contained. so far 41 homes have been destroyed and more than 600 others are still threatened. a strike team of san francisco firefighters is helping to put out the fire. ( mark ) police in the north bay are looking for a woman who stole money from teens who were holding a bake sale. it happened outside of oliver's market in cotati. this is video showing the woman walking around the store before going outside to the bake sale. she is identified as 41-year-old michelle kruse. police say she used a fake 100 dollar bill to buy baked goods. the students then gave her 80 dollars in change. the money would have gone towards a disneyland trip with their music program at rancho cotati high school. ( darya ) a skateboard competition... turns violent on one of san francisco's steepest streets after a skate boarder crashes into a cop.( mark ) now some witnesses are accusing the officer of intentionally running into the skater. kron4's hermela arewai has the details. (hermela aregawi)sfpd is frustrated because they say this chaos could have been avoided altogether if the skateboarders had gotten permits.. so that they could block off some of the streets for them to ride on.they say they're aware that people are saying the officer intentionally clothlined the skateboarder.. and are looking at footage to determine if in fact that officer did something wrong.police are

( mark ) a 100-thousand dollar reward is now being offered for information leading to the arrest of the person who killed a lawyer in el cerrito. 62-year-old james gilliland (gill-ah-land) junior was shot and killed on the porch of his home last october. police say the killer was waiting for him after he had just returned from church choir practice. friends of his have banded together to increase the reward. ( mark ) gilliland practiced law for more than 35-years in state and federal courts. police say they have not ruled out that his murder may be tied to his time as a lawyer. ( darya ) police in benicia are looking for four women who robbed a c-v-s. it happened on monday but police are just releasing the

( lydia ) harmful blue- green algae was detected in in eastern contra costa county's discovery bay in samples taken nearly two weeks ago, contra costa health services' environmental health division said today. inspectors began sampling the waters of discovery bay in mid-june because of multiple complaints, and tests of a sample collected june 29 indicates that the algae is present, according to health officials. exposure can

result in serious illness or death at higher levels, but typically just causes rash, skin and eye irritation or allergic reactions. still, it may be safe to go in the water, depending on where and whether advisory signs are posted nearby. ( darya ) monte rio beach in sonoma county has reopened after follow-up tests show lower levels of bacteria in the water. in the latest test, the levels of bacteria fell below what the state considers dangerous. officials closed the beach july 6th after multiple test found high levels of e-coli bacteria. warning signs were posted around the area advising people to not swim in the water. those have since been removed. ( darya ) breaking news from overnight... police in pennsylvania have found multiple bodies in a 12 foot grave on a farm. ( mark ) it is believed the be the remains of four young men who

(tiffany) the human remains were found last night in a grave on a farm in pennsylvania. and now a 20 year old man who's parents own the farm has been arrested. investigators have identified one of the victims as 19- year-old dean finocchiaro . he is one of four men who went missing over the course of several days last week. all of the disappearances were within miles of each other and all of the men are between 19 and 22 years old. now investigators are working to identify the other remains that were found inside the grave. the families of the missing men have been at the scene in the hope of learning anything about their loved ones. police say they still have a long way to go in this investigation.

by two people who wanted to take her cell phone. the entire incident was caught on camera. this happened in long beach. in the video you can see the two men approach the woman from behind. that's when one man punches her in the face and they slam her into the ground. then they drag her and run off. the woman suffered broken bones in her face. she is expected to be okay. police are still looking for the attackers. ( darya ) hundreds of students are forced to evacuate overnight after a bomb threat at u-c-l-a. the threat came in around 10:00 last night. dozens of residence halls and the recreation center were evacuated. this is video of the students gathering at a stadium. after several hours, police said the residence halls were safe and students were allowed to return home. ( mark ) new developments are emerging this morning in an investigation involving a military plane crash that killed 16-marines. one

person could be facing charges for taking some of the crash debris. witnesses say the plane spiraled out of control crashing into a soybean field in mississippi on monday. the investigation into what went wrong ( mark ) the personal information of six- million verizon customers has been leaked online. but verizon says the only person who had access to the inforation was the researcher who found the leak. the cyber-security company 'upguard' discovered the issue. they said it was caused by "human error." 'upguard' alerted verizon on june 13th but the security hole was not closed until june 22nd. it exposed customers names, addresses, and pin numbers. security experts advise customers to update their pin codes and never use the same one twice. ( darya ) firefighters are mopping up after a brushfire burned homes in the east san jose foothills. flames erupted late tuesday afternoon on a ridge above lariat land and claitor drive. the fire destroyed one home and forced dozens of people to evacuate. the fire scorched about 120- acres..burning down the canyon and into alum rock park. this morning all of the evacuees have been allowed to return home. three firefighters suffered minor injuries. ( darya ) and firefighters near oroville are making progress battling a wildfire in butte county. this is happening north of sacramento near interstate- five. the wall fire has burned more than six- thousand acres. it is 70-percent contained. so far 41 homes have been destroyed and more than 600 others are still threatened. a strike team of san francisco firefighters is helping to put out the fire. ( mark ) police in the

north bay are looking for a woman who stole money from teens who were holding a bake sale. it happened outside of oliver's market in cotati. this is video showing the woman walking around the store before going outside to the bake sale. she is identified as 41-year-old michelle kruse. police say she used a fake 100 dollar bill to buy baked goods. the students then gave her 80 dollars in change. the money would have gone towards a disneyland trip with their music program at rancho cotati high school. ( mark ) one of the students says he noticed the bill was fake. he tried to chase after kruse's car but she got away.

( darya ) this morning there is new video of a skateboard competition that turned violent after a skate boarder crashed into a cop.( mark ) some witnesses are accusing the officer of intentionally running into the skater. kron4's maureen kelly has the details. you kind of see a train wreck about to happentravis knapp- prasek was at the bottom of the dolores street hill filming the skateboarding contest when the collision happened. police were there responding to assist another skateboarder who had been injured in the unpermited event tuesday evening. skateboarder kept bombing down the hilland several were allowed to go thrubut then one cop on the scene moves into the path of one oncoming skater. and that sends him into and then over the police cruiser.and then lands down hard on the asphalt.some are saying the cop clotheslined the skateboarder intentionally. he put himself right in the path of that skater and held his ground and he could've easily step of the way in the would have been okthat skateboarder identifed by the friend who took this picture only as anthony.reportedly suffered a broken ankle, tore a ligament in his knee and sprained some fingers.while skateboarders are reviewing videos of the crash from

different perspectives being posted online.a sfpd spokesman says they are too and so far say it's unclear what the video shows. people on a times square sidewalk is due in court. here is a look at the disturbing video the moment of the crash. this happened on may 18th. richard rojas drove his s-u-v onto a sidwalk killing an 18 year-old woman and injuring 22 other people. rojas is scheudled to be arraigned later today where he will enter a plea. rojas told police that he had been smoking marijuana laced with p-c-p. ( mark ) the department of homeland security is working to expand its face scanning at airports for american citizens. non-immigrant foreigners have been required since 2004 to have their fingerprints and photos collected prior to entry into the u-s. now the d-h-s wants to implement face scans on departures, so it can better track visa holders and tighten security. the agency says u-s citizens must also be scanned for the program to work. privacy advocates are concerened this is an overreach. ( mark ) a federal judge says he probably won't reinstate president trump's executive order to block money to sanctuary cities. that
