exciting you know. it hurts to have to go through this situation because i never thought that i would ever have to speak in court for something like that to happen to my mother">camella seymour say she wants to see a monument built to honor the memory of those who lost their lives back on april 2nd 2012 goh's attorney read a statement in court from the convicted murderer in which he says he is very sorry and hopes this life sentence brings closure to the families. in oakland haaziq madyun kron4news (grant) the murder trial for the man accused of fatally shooting kate steinle on san francisco's pier 14... has been delayed. 54-year-old juan francisco lopez-sanchez has pleaded not guilty to second degree murder. he was in the country illegally after previously being deported to mexico five times. his attorney says that lopez-sanchez áaccidentially fired a gun he found under a

bench on the pier. steinle was killed in july of 2--15...as she stood with her dad taking pictures near the bay bridge. president trump has repeatedly used the steinle case as a way to get congress to pass immigration reform. the trial is now set to begin - next friday. (grant) the south bay man who admitted to abducting and killing more than a dozen cats in a san jose neighborhood - has been sentenced to nearly two decades behind bars. the judge gave robert farmer the maxium sentenced... saying farmer's victims were vulnerable and that he was a danger to the community. back in the fall of 2015, farmer abducted and killed as many as 16 cats from the cambrian park neighborhood. last october, the 25-year-old pleaded guilty to 20 counts of animal cruelty. today, he was sentenced to 16 years in prison and was ordered to stay away from that community. (vicki) another big story we are tracking tonight... investigators are still working to determine what caused a plane to crash in sonoma county - that left one

person dead and three others injured. kron four's terisa estacio spoke to witnesses and brings us up to date on the investigation. terisa estacio, reporting, sonoma here in sonoma - agents with the national transportation safety board sifted through the wreckage of a small plane crash - the agents are taking their time as they look over what is left of the cirrus sr22. the plane landed in this private field about 1,000 feet southwest of the sonoma skypark airport. on board the plane - pilot william goldman, his two children and a nanny. goldman is the grandson of san francisco philanthropist richard and rhoda goldman. authorities say goldman a shown here, died upon impact of the plane, the two children were airlifted to the benioff children's hospital in oakland and the nanny to queen of the valley in napa. investigators say they will be out at the scene for the next few days. next week, they will carefully haul away the wreckage and put it in a hangar close by to

francisco philantropists. kron4's maureen kelly reports that william goldman was continuing that tradition in his own life. 38 year old willam sachs goldman's family has deep roots woven into the fabric of san francisco history. his grandmother was a descendent of levi strauss... and along with her husband... established the prestigious goldman environmental prize the world's largest prize for grassroots enviromental activists. the pair was known nationally for supporting many causes, donating hundreds of millions of dollars. william goldman, known as bill to his friends, continued that work locally as the president of the board of directors for the haas senior fund which gives grants to numerous bay area organizations working to build a more equitable community. he was also on the board of the new isreal fund which supports women's rights, lgbtq rights and palestinian

rights in israel. in a statement the ceo said that goldman was fiercely dedicated to the new israel funds work to promote democracy and equality for all israeli's. his vision, idealism, and sharp sense of humor the sustained us all.but even coming from such a wealthy family he still had a day job as an assistant professor at usf's international studies department. one of his collgues wrote on his facebook page that . he was a brilliant scholar, a popular teacher, a committed human rights activist, and an incredibly kind and funny man who loves spending time with his family. goldman's two children, george and marie were also injured in that crash.maureen kelly kron4 news. (vicki) after some obstacles... the city of san jose has reopened alum rock park to the public today. (vicki) city officials temporarily closed the park down due to recent mountain lion sightings and a brush fire. park rangers say several mountain lions were spotted along one way road and south rim trail last week. also the lariat fire which burned more than 1-hundred acres near the park this week caused problems. since then park rangers say all 7- hundred and 40-acres are safe

for people to hike, run or picknick. the water restrictions along a stretch of santa cruz beaches that were put in place from a shark attack have been lifted.. the attack happened tuesday morning when a shark bit the front of a kayaker's boat.. the man was knocked into the water but luckily escaped without injury.. santa cruz fire department announced today that no shark activity has been seen in the area since the attack. (grant) and it will be a good weekend to take your family to the beach as the heat is back... window of a vehicle in gilroy... and then struck a 7-year old girl.(grant) it happened on wednesday... near the intersection of santa teresa boulevard and fitsgerald avenue... just north of the city limits. kron four's rob fladeboe join us live from the scene with more on the story. rob? (rob live) the sheriff's office confirms that a mini van was shot at here on santa teresa boulevard about 9:45 thursday morning. but the driver of that mini van is convinced other vehicles are being shot at here and she wants to let the community know about it. leslie oxley/car hit by pellet gun"....i pulled over and was holding a towel to her head and i didn't know what was wrong..."gilroy resident julie oxley had just passed through the intersection of santa teresaboulevard and fitzgerald avenue, northbound on santa teresa, when somebody took a shot at her mini van.julie oxley".....it was like a loud pop and i had no idea what it could be and i turned around

and saw that the rear window had been been shattered...." the window has since been replaced but julie's 7 year old daughter grace was nicked by what sheriff's deputies say was a slug from a pellet gun. grace is fine but she was that close to a much more serious injury.julie oxley".....so they're looking for the bullet and she turns her head and we see it stuck in her hair and they pull it out and say yep, that's the bullet..."a man in a pickup who was right behind oxley who stopped to help says his vehicle was also shot at. the sheriff's office can only confirm the two cases, but oxley thinks other incidents may be going unreported.julie oxley"....there was me and the other car that day but i have since found out through facebook that two other drivers have been hit in that area...."santa teresa and fitzgerald is a rural area but sees a lot of traffic heading to and from gilroy on highway 101 and monterey road. there aren't too many places for a sniper to hide unless someone was shooting from another vehicle. julie oxley is now

(grant) firefighters has to put out a car fire at a gas station in redwood city last night. in this video you can see the lamborghini is completely covered in flames. the flames quickly sread to the gas station. emergency crews had to shut down woodside road for nearly half

an hour near hudson street. the fire was contained within ten minutes. crews say the cause of the fire is unknown at this time. (vicki) honda is recalling millions of its accords because they could catch on fire. the car maker says a battery sensor can short out and possibly start a fire. honda accords made from 2013 to 2016 are impacted by the recall. four engine fires have been reported, but no one has been injured. all the fires happened in states where salt is used to clear the roads. honda says salt getting into the engine can cause an electrical short. for more information about the recall..you can visit our website at kron-four-dot com. (catherine) sheriff's deputies in ventura county are blaming a rash of recent home burglaries on suspected los angeles gang members... but what's really raising eyebrows....is how they're choosing which upscale homes to break into.. investigators say they're increasingly using websites like zillow.....which provide lots of information...not just what homes look like but the inside layout...and whether they back up against open land.. one burglary crew is suspected of hitting at least 6 homes in thousand oaks, moorpark and other areas of ventura county in recent days. also parts of los angeles and orange counties. one woman says her neighbor was a victim. neighbor of victim - every single drawer had been opened and thrown across the room. and anything that could be taken off the wall was shattered on the ground. sheriff's deputy - these are dangerous people. doing electronic searches on their devices. a lot of searches on zillow and other real estate sites - looking at specific properties. people need to be aware of that. the technology can work for you but it can work against you as well.. the sheriff's office

black men and women.... and it also advertised union and non- union positions. more than 700 people attended the meeting of the las vegas stadium authority board. police had to be called, as people became irate after learning there were no jobs yet on the nearly two-billion dollar project. the raiders plan to relocate to the 65-thousand seat stadium near the las vegas strip in 20-20. it's unclear when constriction will begin.

in the north bay... that killed a college professor and injured three others. ( pam ) the plane went down in schellville yesterday afternoon ... shortly after taking off from a nearby airport. schellville is just to the south of sonoma. kron 4's maureen kelly reports tonight what we've learned about the pilot.. but we begin our coverage with terisa estacio... she tracked down some witnesses. (terisa estacio)at the sonoma skypark pilot ron price tells me that he saw william goldman just before he took off in his cirrus sr22 his children and nanny on board. it was only 1000 feet later that the cirrus crashed in this field south of the airport. goldman died at the scene, his children now in the hospital, as well as the nanny. ron unfortunate really.throughout the day, agents with the national transportation safety board descended up on the field to examine the plane. they plan to be on site documenting the wreckage throughout the weekend. terisa estacio. some say they heard the crash and wanted to

been significant progress in the major california wildfires...the wall fire near oroville, for example, is now 7o percent contained..( pam ) but catherine heenan is here with updates on a couple of other fires which are still causing problems... (catherine) one of those problem areas - the whittier fire in santa barbara county...it's now burned more than 20 square miles. it started last saturday near lake cachuma.... at least 8 homes and 12 other buildings have been destroyed. it's a very dry area that hasn't burned in 62 years. things have been calming down and as of today - it's 52 percent contained.. but then came word that 'new' evacuations have been ordered... barney melekian/santa barbara county undersheriff:the expected weather change, specifically sundowner wind patterns is likely to occur this afternoon, and intensify throughout the evening. therefore the sheriff's office thought it critical to order the evacuation earlier in the day so as to allow people to move during daylight hours. jimmy harris, deputy fire chief for los padres national forest:extremely heavy fuel,
