( james ) happening today. the man accused of abandoning his new born baby will make his first court appearance. it happened outside a suisun city strip mall and that newborn remains in the hospital this morning.( tiffany ) kron four's j-r stone has the latest on the investigation including reaction from witnesses who found the baby. 18 year old daniel mitchell is behind bars right now after police say he left his 16 day old baby ma'kyhe mitchell in a suisun city parking lot.sot we're now learning new information about where daniel mitchell went after leaving his boy in the parking lot. he eventually ditched his car in this fairfield neighborhood near fairmont memorial cemetary a mile and a half from the shopping center where he left little ma'kyhe. witnesses tell us it was obvious he had crashed into something prior to that. the tires were blown out and there

was damage to the car. in fact one woman tells kron 4 news she watched as mitchell got out of the car, went back inside to get something then took off running down this street. sources say he left his wallet and id inside his carsomething that helped police identify him, catch him, and link him to multiple felony crimes and a misdemeanor possession of possible cocaine. sotthose who know mitchell say he has been on a downward spiral ever since his mom committed suicide.. officers were back in this area tuesday and witnesses tell me they found the magazine to a gun in someone's yard. no word yet if that magazine came from mitchell or if that clip was with mitchell when he was with ma'kyhe.

( james ) breaking overnight. a grass fire in san jose damages at least one building. this is video of the fire sent to us by a kron 4 viewer. it burned about 5 acres near old quarry road. one barn was damaged but no homes were threatened. nobody was injured. ( tiffany ) a san jose high school employee is in jail accused of sexually assaulting a developmentally disabled woman. now investigators think there may be more victims. 42 year-old anthony valerio was arrested on monday but police are just now releasing the information. authorities say valerio was the 21-year old victim's "life coach." he works at calero high school in san jose... although police have not said where the alleged assault took place. valerio was booked into the santa clara county jail. he is being held on 200- thousand dollars bail. ( james ) palo alto police arrest a teacher accused of

sexually abusing a minor. 35 year-old john patrick root worked as a music teacher at "the school of rock." the underage girl was one of his students. police say the alleged assault did not happen at the school. officers are now following up to make sure there are no other victims. root is facing four felony sex abuse charges this morning. ( tiffany ) the brutal assault of a man near the richmond bart station last week is now under investigation by richmond police. bart has turned over surveillance video of the attackers to richmond officers. but that video is not yet being released to the public. richmond mayor tom butt -- who witnessed the attack and called 9-1-1 -- has been highly critical of bart's initial response. we talked to him yesterday after he watched the surveillance video. lt. felix tan/richmond

blue-green algae in the east bay. regional park directors are meeting to find ways to fight the toxic bacteria. it was recently found in lake anza in berkeley and lake temescal in oakland. exposure to blue- green algae can result in rashes and eye irritation and other allergic reactions. in extreme cases at higher levels - people can become very sick and even die.. pets are also at risk. park directors say they are desperately searching for solutions. ( tiffany ) health experts warn people to stay away if the water has a lot of algae or scum floating on top. in the north bay, at least two dogs have died from the toxin.

( james ) recreational marijuana use was passed by california voters last november... once it is officially legal next year, one of the biggest issues facing california is the potential for an increase in drugged driving.( tiffany ) a bay area company says they've developed a breatherlyzer that can help law enformecent detect whether or not someone is driving while high. kron four's maureen kelly has the story. curve up ahead, whoa, hee hee that's a sharp turnthe woman behind the wheel is helping the oakland based hound lab test it's new breatherlyzer. she and two male test subjects drove freeway speeds on the 1 mile course on alameda's naval air station. obstacles added meant to mimic the challenges of highway driving. they all first drove sober with no problem, and then were asked to toke up.and a half hour later they were tested with the device that detects the levels of thc, the mind altering ingredient in pot, in people's breath.the er doctor

turned entreprenuer says because pot is processed by the body longer than alcohol, it can be detected in blood and urine tests long after the smoker has sobered up. so law enforcement needs a new tool to help catch drugged drivers and to keep from wrongly arresting responsible pot heads. we provide objective data that says yes that person smoked last couple of hours and very well could be impaired. and some for an employer. are they going to fire everyone that's thc positive? that's a lot of people in the state now so instead what they really need to know was whether someone is impaired not whether they smoke pot at home the night before. our device allows that after their thc levels were documented, the driver were let loose on the road with a professional driver by their side.and that's when the trouble started. there's a bike in the road there, bump, ohh, you hit a cyclistdid the bike seem overly close?not at all.but we hit it anyway.if we hadn't have heard it i wouldn't have knownthe company

( james ) in the bay area. looks like humpback whales are back at it again, swimming under the bay bridge. this is video sent in by a kron four viewer. it is typical to see two to three whales swimming together this time of year. however, people are reporting seeing as many as 18 at one time. experts say, the whales are attracted to the high tide in the bay at this time of year. ( tiffany @ bam ) a new study which looked at the brains of former n-f-l players shows a stunning 99- percent of them had c-t-e... a debilitating brain disease. the study includes more than just áprofessional football players' brains, too. kron four's spencer blake spoke with a local sports medicine specialist to better understand the gravity of this latest information. footballthen you should hear the latest research about chronic traumatic encephalopathy, or c-t-e. researchers looked at the donated brains of 202 former football players - more than half of them played in the n-f-l, and others only had high school or college football careers.177 of them had c-t-e, including all but áone of the n-f-l players in the study."that's a scary number at the nfl level." doctor david goltz, a sports medicine specialist who treats many athletes who have concussionssays the study is definitely concerning."i wouldn't say that it's highly reassuring that american football is safe for preventing brain injury."but he also says there's a lot left unanswered.for example, this study doesn't include football players who ádidn't have c-t-e symptoms during life, nor does it include athletes from different sports. but goltz still sees the alarming report as a springboard for further research."how many concussions are too many? and this study certainly doesn't answer that question and that's a big one, i think, for parents." certified athletic trainer kit

( tiffany ) this morning we are hearing from the driver who was shot at while driving on highway -242 in concord over the weekend. this all as police are still trying to track down the gunman.( james ) kron four's dan kerman spoke to the man about the close call. --natsi noticed a vehicle weaving trough traffic extremely eradically. joe cerletti was heading home to pittsburg a little after 9 saturday night when he saw that vehicle. suddenly as he was appraoching 680 242 split the 2017 white mercedes c-l-a

police are searching for two men in connection with a deadly shooting in san francisco's marina district. the shooting happened in may on alhambra street and police are now releasing the surveillance images of the men they are looking for. 32-year-old kelly freeman was found dead from a gunshot wound to the head. police say these two men are considered persons of interest in the case. ( james ) we're hearing new details about an oakland man's alleged plans to support the terrorist group isis and carry out attacks against gay people here in the bay area. 22 year old amer sinan al- haggagi of oakland is now

charged with attempting to support terrorism. and now we are learning about some of the plans he talked about with an undercover f-b-i agent. in audio recording from a federal court hearing, prosecutors read part of what he told the undercover agent:

after being brutally beaten in her own home. zachary cuen has also been charged with her murder. his girlfriend...jennifer jiminez was arrested in march. she's accused of hiding evidence related to the murder. perla arre-loa was taken into custody after police say she also tried to hide evidence. francsico board of supervisors are determining if the city needs an office for cannabis. supervisors jeff sheehy and

malia cohen are sponsors of this ordinance. the office of cannabis would be in charge of issuing permits to marijuana-related businesses. it will also collect permit application and annual license fees. so far the ordinance is still under discussion. ( james ) in national headlines this morning. a teacher in southern california is getting a lot of attention on social media after she refused to tell border patrol agents if she was a u-s citizen.( tiffany ) richard allyn has more on why she did not answer. summary: a san diego teacher's tense confrontation with a border patrol agent has gone viral after the agent asked her if she was an american citizen at a checkpoint in new mexico.san diego mother and middle school teacher shane parmely refused to answer the agents' question: whether she was a u.s. citizen."you can ask me,

a man who was building a house in texas was surprised to find something burried under the ground.( tiffany ) the property owner discovered what is believed to be .... the remains of a mammoth. these are some images of experts digging out the remains of the columbian mammoth. experts say, the mammoth went extinct about 10-thousand years ago.

this mammoth is believed to be 30-years-old. it stands anywhere between nine to 12-feet tall, and weighs nearly 20-thousand pounds according to experts. mark ) and police say there could be more victims. kron 4's lydia pantazes is live in san jose this morning with the details. lydia. ( lydia ) 42-year old anthony valerio worked here at calero high school in san jose. the investigation into valerio began when the parents of a 21-year-old woman who is developmentally disabled reported that their daughter had been possibly sexually assaulted.(take pic) valerio was allegedly the victim's "life coach." sheriff's officials did not disclose where the alleged sexual assault occurred. valerio was arrested monday and booked into the santa clara main county jail, where he's being held on $200,000 bail, according to jail records. school officials are cooperating with the investigation.(oncam) investigators are trying to determine if there may be more victims. anyone with information is asked to contact the santa office's. reporting live in san jose, lydia pantazes kron4 news. ( mark ) breaking news from overnight. a grass fire in san jose is quickly put out before it got close to any homes. this is video of the fire sent to us by a

kron 4 viewer. it burned about 5 acres near old quarry road. one barn was damaged but no homes were threatened. nobody was injured. ( mark ) a fourth person has been arrested in connection to the murder of an elderly san jose woman. johnny brown faces murder, robbery and elder abuse charges. the victim -- flo douglas also known as "miss flo" died in september after being brutally beaten in her own home. zachary cuen has also been charged with her murder. his girlfriend...jennifer jiminez was arrested in march. she's accused of hiding evidence related to the murder. perla arre-loa was taken into custody after police say she also tried to hide evidence. ( darya ) we are now hearing from the man who was shot at while driving on highway 242 in concord. police are still searching for the shooter. joe cerletti was heading home to pittsburg when the shooting happened on saturday night. as he was approaching the 6-80 -- 242 split, a car pulled along side

him and cut him off. cerletti pulled along side the car and starting talking with the driver. he says the driver swore at him and then began shooting. ( darya ) the shooter was driving a 20-17 white mercedes c-l-a 250. c-h-p says this shooting is different than past freeway shootings. most of those shootings were targeted or gang related, while this shooting appears to be random. ( mark ) happening today... the father accused of abandoning his two week-old baby in suisun city is set to appear in court. tiffany mcelroy is at the breaking news desk with the latest. tiffany. (tiffany) the baby is in critical but stable condition this morning. 18-year-old

daniel mitchell is behind bars after police say he left his new born baby in a strip mall parking lot on monday. he then drove off and left his car in fairfield about a mile and a half away from the strip mall. witnesses say his tires were blown out and there was damage to the car. police say he left his wallet and i-d inside the car, which helped to later identify him. those who know mitchell say he has been on a downward spiral ever since his mother committed suicide.

officers. but that video is not yet being released to the public. richmond mayor tom butt -- who witnessed the attack and called 9-1-1 -- has been highly critical of bart's initial response. we talked to the mayor after he watched the surveillance video. lt. felix tan/richmond police spokesperson: "we haven't really discussed that among the two departments regarding that safety concern but because of this incident rest assured we are going to look at it again along with bart">( mark ) richmond police say they are willing to look for more ways to improve public safety at the transit center. ( darya ) a man in san francisco will serve three years probation for abusing a puppy. 26-year-old zixuan liu pleaded 'no contest' to two-counts of animal abuse. he was captured on surveillance camera abusing

his then ten-month old dog named aniki. one of the conditions of his probation is that he is not allowed to own any animals. aniki is now being taken care of by a rescue group. ( darya ) we're hearing new details about an oakland man's alleged plans to support the terrorist group isis and carry out attacks against gay people here in the bay area. 22 year old amer sinan al- haggagi of oakland is now charged with attempting to support terrorism. and now we are learning about some of the plans he talked about with an undercover f-b-i agent. in audio recording from a federal court hearing, prosecutors read part of what he told the undercover agent:

that at one point he told the f-b-i that if he couldn't make bombs himself..he would apply to a police department then steal weapons. the f-b-i says he did at one point apply to the oakland police department. ( mark ) new this morning...president trump's former campaign manager paul manafort will ánot have to testify in front of congress. the senate judiciary committee has withdrawn the subpoena that was issued to manafort yesterday morning. the subpoena was withdrawn after manafort agreed to turn over documents and set up an interview with the committee. donald trump junior was also removed from the list of witnesses scheduled to testify at today's public hearing. the committee wants to talk to both manafort and trump junior about a meeting they had with a russian lawyer during the presidential campaign. that lawyer had promised them damaging information on hillary clinton. ( mark ) one of the most senior figures at the vatican has pleaded not guilty to multiple charges of sexual assault. cardinal george pell was in an australian court earlier this morning. this was his first court appearance since the charges were filed last month.

several people have come out and accused the cardinal of sexual assault. he has denied all the charges against him. pell is the most senior cardinal in the history of the catholic church ever to face criminal charges. recorded a man's death and taunted him as he is drowning....could now face jail time. florida police say they are now recommending that charges this is video of the incident on july 9th. the recommendation for charges will be handed over to the state attorney's office today. the teens posted the video to youtube showing 31-year-old jamel dunn drowning in a pond. in the video you can hear the boys laughing as the man drowns. police initially said they couldn't charge the teens because florida doesn't have a law that requires people to call for help for anyone in distress. now they are using a law that says it's the duty of any person to report a death. ( mark ) the senate has begun debating the repeal of the affordable care act. but republicans still may not have enough votes to actually pass a new health care bill.( darya ) john lawrence takes a look at what's next.

( darya ) a group that wants california to secede from the united states can now start collecting signatures for a ballot initiative. the state attorney general approved their request yesterday. the campaign can now start collecting the more than 585-thousand signatures it would need to qualify for the 2018 ballot. the initiative would form a commission to recommend ways that california can pursue independence. this is the second attempt to get the measure on the ballot. an earlier attempt was withdrawn in april. ( darya ) a new warning about blue-green algae in the east bay. regional park directors are meeting to find ways to fight the toxic bacteria. it was recently

found in lake anza in berkeley and lake temescal in oakland. exposure to blue- green algae can result in rashes and eye irritation and other allergic reactions. in extreme cases at higher levels - people can become very sick and even die.. pets are also at risk. park directors say they are desperately searching for solutions. ( darya ) health experts warn people to stay away if the water has a lot of algae or scum floating on top. in the north bay at least two dogs have died from the toxin. police are searching for two men in connection with a deadly shooting in san francisco's marina district. the shooting happened in may on alhambra street and police are now releasing the surveillance images of the men they are looking for. 32-year-old kelly freeman was found dead from a gunshot wound to the head. police say these two men are considered persons of interest in the case. ( darya ) a san jose man is rescued by a police helicopter after he crashes his motorcycle in the sierra. he was riding near cody lake in el dorado county monday night when the california highway patrol says he hit a tree and was badly

hurt. he used an emergency beacon to call for help yesterday morning. the c-h-p used a helicopter to rescue him. this is video of that rescue. the man was hoisted to safety and he is expected to be alright. ( mark ) and police say there could be more victims. kron 4's lydia pantazes is live in san jose this morning with the details. lydia. ( lydia ) 42-year old anthony valerio worked here at calero high school in san jose. the investigation into valerio began when the parents of a 21-year-old woman who is developmentally disabled reported that their daughter had been possibly sexually assaulted.(take pic) valerio was allegedly the victim's "life coach." sheriff's officials did not disclose where the alleged sexual assault occurred. valerio was arrested monday and booked into the santa clara main county jail, where

he's being held on $200,000 bail, according to jail records. school officials are cooperating with the investigation.(oncam) investigators are trying to determine if there may be more victims. anyone with information is asked to contact the santa clara sheriff's reporting live in san jose, lydia pantazes kron4 news. ( mark ) happening today... the father accused of abandoning his two week-old baby in suisun city is set to appear in court. tiffany mcelroy is at the breaking news desk with the latest. tiffany. (tiffany) the baby is in critical but stable condition this morning. 18-year-old daniel mitchell is behind bars after police say he left his newborn baby in a strip mall parking lot on monday. he then drove off and left his car in fairfield about a mile and a half away from the strip mall. witnesses say his tires were blown out and there was damage to the car. police say he left his wallet and i-d inside the car, which helped to later identify him. those who know mitchell say

he has been on a downward spiral ever since his mother committed suicide.

"miss flo" died in september after being brutally beaten in her own home. zachary cuen has also been charged with her murder. his girlfriend...jennifer jiminez was arrested in march. she's accused of hiding evidence related to the murder. perla arre-loa was taken into custody after police say she also tried to hide evidence. ( darya ) we are now hearing from the man who was shot at while driving on highway 242 in concord. police are still searching for the shooter. joe cerletti was heading home to pittsburg when the shooting happened on saturday night. as he was approaching the 6-80 -- 242 split, a car pulled along side him and cut him off. cerletti pulled along side the car and starting talking with the driver. he says the driver swore at him and then began shooting.

shooting at me.that is inches away from a kill shot. do you feel lucky? extremely lucky>( darya ) the shooter was driving a 20-17 white mercedes c-l-a 250. c-h-p says this shooting is different than past freeway shootings. most of those shootings were targeted or gang related, while this shooting appears to be random. ( mark ) the brutal assault of a man near the richmond bart station last week is now under investigation by richmond police. bart has turned over surveillance video of the attackers to richmond police officers. but that video is not yet being released to the public. richmond mayor tom butt -- who witnessed the attack and called 9-1-1 -- has been highly critical of bart's initial response. we talked to the mayor after he watched the surveillance video.

rpd">lt. felix tan/richmond police spokesperson: "we haven't really discussed that among the two departments regarding that safety concern but because of this incident rest assured we are going to look at it again along with bart">( mark ) richmond police say they are willing to look for more ways to improve public safety at the transit center. ( darya ) a man in san francisco will serve three years probation for abusing a puppy. 26-year-old zixuan liu pleaded 'no contest' to two-counts of animal abuse. he was captured on surveillance camera abusing his then ten-month old dog named aniki. one of the conditions of his probation is that he is not allowed to own any animals. aniki is now being taken care of by a rescue group. ( darya ) we're hearing new details about an oakland man's alleged plans to support the terrorist group isis and carry out attacks against gay people here in the bay area. 22 year old amer sinan al-

haggagi of oakland is now charged with attempting to support terrorism. and now we are learning about some of the plans he talked about with an undercover f-b-i agent. in audio recording from a federal court hearing, prosecutors read part of what he told the undercover agent:

the subpoena was withdrawn after manafort agreed to turn over documents and set up an interview with the committee. donald trump junior was also removed from the list of witnesses scheduled to testify at today's public hearing. the committee wants to talk to both manafort and trump junior about a meeting they had with a russian lawyer during the presidential campaign. that lawyer had promised them damaging information on hillary clinton. ( mark ) one of the most senior figures at the vatican has pleaded not guilty to multiple charges of sexual assault. cardinal george pell was in an australian court earlier this morning. this was his first court appearance since the charges were filed last month. several people have come out and accused the cardinal of sexual assault. he has denied all the charges against him. pell is the most senior cardinal in the history of the catholic church ever to face criminal charges. ( darya ) the senate has begun debating the repeal of the affordable care act. but republicans still may not have enough votes to actually pass a new health care bill. republicans in the senate voted in favor of starting a debate on health care by the slimmest margin possible....a 50-50 split. just hours

after getting that vote, the senate rejected one version of the g-o-p plan to repeal and replace the affordable care act. president trump called the day a victory, while democrats say there can be fixes to the affordable care act without repealing it. ( darya ) today, senators are scheduled to vote on a "repeal only" proposal, which has been criticized by both parties. ( darya ) senator john mccain made his return to the senate floor. he had been absent for more than a week after being diagnosed with brain cancer. he made a speech criticizing the current state of the senate.

defending a teenage girl who lost control of her car while live streaming on instagram, killing her younger sister in merced. yesterday we heard from her father, now we are hearing from her youngest sister. 18-year-old obdulia sanchez is suspected of driving drunk or drugged during the crash on friday night. the middle sister, was ejected from the car and killed. obdulia's youngest sister says she found out

about the crash after seeing the video on instagram. it wasn't until the next morning that the family got a call from the coroner's office confirming that their daughter was dead. the youngest sister says there is nothing obdulia could have done to prevent the crash and that she stands with her sister. ( darya ) the middle sister was only 14-years-old when she died. obdulia remains in jail on 300-thousand-dollars bail. ( mark ) we are learning new information about the truck carrying dozens of undocumented immigrants in texas. it passed through a border patrol checkpoint about two hours before being discovered outside a walmart. ten people were found dead in that big rig and dozens others were injured. the truck that james bradley junior is charged with driving cleared the checkpoint

saturday night. officials are not sure whether immigrants crossing into the u-s illegally boarded the truck before or after it passed the checkpoint. bradley has been charged with knowingly transporting undocumented immigrants. ( mark ) a group of teenagers who recorded a man's death and taunted him as he is drowning....could now face jail time. florida police say they are now recommending that charges be filed. this is video of the incident on july 9th. the recommendation for charges will be handed over to the state attorney's office today. the teens posted the video to youtube showing 31- year-old jamel dunn drowning in a pond. in the video you can hear the boys laughing as the man drowns. police initially said they couldn't charge the teens because florida doesn't have a law that requires people to call for help for anyone in distress. now they are using a law that says it's the duty of any person to report a death. ( darya ) a warning if you're headed to the beach this weekend. the national weather service has issued a "large wave" and "rip current" warning from friday

through monday. some beaches from monterey to sonoma counties are affected. big waves can catch swimmers off guard and pull them into cold and turbulent waters. beachgoers are encouraged to stay out of the water, away from the waters edge, and off rocks until next week. ( darya ) firefighters are making progress on the massive wildfire near yosemite. 80 thousand acres have been burned. but containment is up to 65 percent. 63 homes have been destroyed.. some evacuation orders have been lifted in southern mariposa county... but -- many people are still not allowed to go home. ( darya ) and police have arrested three people in mariposa county accused of stealing equipment from a fire truck. officers say they stole a generator, first aid kits, power tools and numerous other items. ( mark ) the city of san francisco is moving one step closer to renaming justin herman plaza. a san

francisco supervisor introduced legislation to take herman's name off of the plaza. he says that herman led the san francisco redevelopment agency during the 60's and led projects that displaced nearly 4-thousand people and small businesses. if passed, the plaza would be referred to as embarcadero plaza until the city can agree on a new name. ( mark ) and there is now also an effort to rename s-f-o's terminal one in honor of slain supervisor harvey milk. the oldest passenger terminal in use at s-f-o, and is undergoing a more than two- billion dollar renovation project. a san francisco supervisor introduced the legislation yesterday. he said the renaming would send a powerful message to the world, that the city honors gay people and their achievements and sacrifices. ( darya ) a group that wants california to secede from the united states can now start collecting signatures for a ballot initiative. the state attorney general approved their request yesterday. the campaign can now start collecting the more than 585-thousand signatures it would need to

qualify for the 2018 ballot. the initiative would form a commission to recommend ways that california can pursue independence. this is the second attempt to get the measure on the ballot. an earlier attempt was withdrawn in april. privacy advocates have questioned whether the technology's use would violate people's privacy. (ááá2-shotááá)( mark ) check out this worm-like robot that would used to help with search and rescue efforts. our military must be focused on decisive and overwhelming victory and cannot be burdened with the tremendous medical costs and disruption that transgender in the military would entail. thank you. this new policy announcement is raising a lot of questions this morning. right now it is not clear if transgender americans who are already in the military will be allowed to continue to serve. it was in june of last year that the pentagon announced it was ending its ban on transgender people being able to serve openly in the military. military chiefs recently announced a delay on allowing transgender people from enlisting. but transgender troops are already serving openly in the military. it was also earlier this year that president trump withdrew federal protections for transgender students. i am continuing to gather information. i will keep you updated through out the morning. back to you in the studio. . ( mark ) palo alto police arrest a teacher accused of sexually abusing a minor.

35 year-old john patrick root worked as a music teacher at "the school of rock." the underage girl was one of his students. police say the alleged assault did not happen at the school. officers are now following up to make sure there are no other victims. ( mark ) root is facing four felony sex abuse charges this morning. ( darya ) this morning we are hearing from the man behind a lawsuit against warriors star draymond green. the lawsuit stems from an incident outside of a bar in michigan last year. green is accused of slapping jermaine edmondson. edmonson was a football player for michigan state. he says he is still suffering from the incident.

a new warning about blue-green algae in the east bay. regional park directors are meeting to find ways to fight the toxic bacteria. it was recently found in lake anza in berkeley and lake temescal in oakland. exposure to blue- green algae can result in rashes and eye irritation and other allergic reactions. in extreme cases at higher levels - people can become very sick and even die.. pets are also at risk. park directors say they are desperately searching for solutions. police are searching for two men in connection with a deadly shooting in san francisco's marina district. the shooting happened in may on alhambra street and police are now releasing the surveillance images of the men they are looking for. 32-year-old kelly freeman was found dead from a gunshot wound to the head. police say these two men are considered persons of interest in the case. ( mark ) the fourth and final wife of entertainment legend frank sinatra has died. barbara sinatra passed away tuesday from natural causes at her home in rancho mirage, california. the sinatras were married for 22 years until frank sinatra's death in 19-98. with her husband's support, barbara sinatra launched a namesake children's center in rancho mirage to help the youngest victims of abuse. the center's director says it has helped more than 20-thousand children. barbara sinatra was 90 years old. ( mark ) a new study looking at the brains of former n-f-l players found that 99-percent of them had

the brain disease called c-t-e. ( darya ) the study includes more than just áprofessional football players' brains. kron four's spencer blake spoke with a local sports medicine specialist about the new study. (nats: whistle)if you or someone you love plays footballthen you should hear the latest research about chronic traumatic encephalopathy, or c-t-e. researchers looked at the donated brains of 202 former football players - more than half of them played in the n-f-l, and others only had high school or college football careers.177 of them had c-t-e, including all but áone of the n-f-l players in the study."that's a scary number at the nfl level." doctor david goltz, a sports medicine specialist who treats many athletes who have concussionssays the study is definitely concerning."i wouldn't say that it's highly reassuring that american football is safe for preventing brain injury."but he also says there's a lot left unanswered.for example, this study doesn't include football players who ádidn't have c-t-e symptoms during life, nor does it include athletes from different sports. but goltz still sees the alarming report as a springboard for further research."how many concussions

arizona. police say the newborn baby was found inside a backpack left in a grocery cart. they say the baby was born about an hour before being abandoned. investigators say the baby girl is in state custody and is doing well. police are still looking for the girl's parents. ( darya ) officials in florida are investigating a video showing a shark being dragged by a boat. in the video you can see the shark being dragged through the water. the video made it's way to social media and has received a ton of backlash. florida =officials say they may have identified one of the men in the video. they say there are other graphic images connected to investigators are now looking to see if any laws were broken by dragging that shark. ( mark ) a san jose man is rescued by a police helicopter after he crashes his motorcycle in the sierra. he was riding near cody lake in el dorado county monday night when the california highway patrol says he hit a tree and was badly hurt. he used an emergency beacon to

call for help yesterday morning. the c-h-p used a helicopter to rescue him. this is video of that rescue. the man was hoisted to safety and he is expected to be alright. (mark) stocks are opening higher on wall street as several big companies including boeing and at&t report solid results. the standard & poor's 500 index rose 1 point. the dow jones industrial average gained 93 points. the nasdaq composite increased 15 points. crespi drive. we are hearing reports that it is being evacuated because of a gas leak. the fire department is working to shut off the gas. they are now waiting for p-g and e to arrive. we have a reporter heading to the scene and will bring you updates as soon as we get them.
