forget what they saw. this little girl's face she was screaming for her moma black shroud covers the broken arm of the fire ball ride. witnesses say the seats snapped off, sending riders flying.it flew off. everybody like falling "i heard a girl scream 'help!' and i look over and i see someone fly out and then i see it slam flat into the ground.""the whole car broke off, with about four of them in it."today, safety inspectors swarmed over the damaged ride ... as well as more than seventy others at the ohio fair. "there is an investigation that will be underway here that will be conducted by the ohio highway patrol." "we've still got the machinery, it's still here. it's still in the condition it was when this terrible accident happened"the fire ball is designed to swing

passengers 40 feet above the ground, while spinning them around at 13 revolutions per minute.this cell phone video shows its moment of failure ... just hours after passing a safety check. "my grandchildren (catherine0 the dutch manufacturer k-m-g says there are 43 such rides around the world, including 11 in the u.s. it says the accident was the first such serious malfunction on one of its rides..and is telling operators to stop all operations until it's clear what caused the malfunction. vicki and grant? (dan kerman)like most sunny summer days, people were streaming into great america in santa clara thursday afternoon but many were well aware of the deadly accident that occurred on the fireball ride at the ohio state fair.sot it was terrible, you have innocent lives being taken because of a ridesoti have two small children and we come to great america a lot and the boardwalk and so it is a concernwhile rollercoasters were in full thrill mode thursday, great america's version of the fireball, known as delirium sat idle thursday. great america is one of 6 parks in california that

voluntarily shutdown their version of the fireball ride until it could be inspected by cal/osha. soti feel like that's a safe move to do, it can cause a lot of fear, so i think it's a good idea to check on that to give a sense of safety back to the people great america's delirium is made by a different company than the one that manufactured the fireball at the ohio state fair sotwe have been on the delirium. last time we went twice, it's definitely not for the squeamish. that's' for sure. and even those who are fans of the ride, would have passed this time aroundsotwe were still not going to go on it because when its right there are the forefront, i would rather be safe than sorry.

home. enea is a ten year veteran of the force. he has been placed on leave without pay... and is scheduled to appear in court tomorrow. (vicki) a man and woman have been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the killing of a three-year-old girl.. the napa county couple... sara krueger and ryan warner... were found guilty and sentenced for the murder and torture of krueger's daughter... back in 20-14 napa police went to do a welfare check on the families apartment and found three- year-old kayleigh slusher's body in a suitcase with more than 40 visible injuries.. the couple was arrested at a bart station later that day. in court this morning officials say the two showed no remorse and took no responsibility for kayliegh's death. now... police are looking for the thieves who stole thousands of dollars worth of equipment from u-c berkeley. (grant) kron 4's lydia pantazes tells us who police are looking for. (grant) firefighters are warning drivers to expect delays and plan a detour this evening... due to downed power lines near pleasant hill. this is a photo tweeted out by the contra costa fire department... officials say pleasant hill road is currently closed in both directions... in front of the palos verdes mall. the incident happened around 2:30 this evening... after a vehicle crashed into a power pole. the downed power line knocked out power to nearly 22-hundred customers in pleasant hill and walnut creek. we just got word - that about 400 customers are still without power and there is no estimate for when the power will come back on. sunday's trip to pyramid lake near castaic in la county could make the boy sick..but that is just what the family believes after swimming in the water there.nats:"algae is all over his shirt - see it?" nguyen is on video talking about algae on parker's swimshirt..jenny ngyuen brought her go pro camera into the lake to video her son and when she put it underwater she saw this..algae floating past the lens. 15 minutes later there was a medical emergency.. parker was covered in welts, his lips were blue and he was having trouble breathing..his frantic parents called 911. alexander napolin/family attorney"from the sheriff and the lifeguard and the staff at the lake..they knew what it was they suspected it was the blue green algae and the toxin and they said they wouldn't never allow their children to swim in the lake."parker has a peanut allergy. at first, his mom and dad thought he might have eaten something but they quickly ruled that out.what the nguyen's didn't know was that the area had been closed to swimming 10 days earlier because of a blue green algae bloom.the warning was downgraded in mid july.. officials from the state dept of water resources say signs are up at the park entrance and on the lifeguard tower cautioning people about toxic algae in the lake.the nguyen's claim they never saw any signs about the algae.alexander napolin/family attorney"they would not have been in that water..they want the public to know so that other parents and

annual report by the university of california at davis... researchers find that the lake is warming up at 14 times the normal rate... which is half of a degree fahrenheit each year. they say the signs of climate change at lake tahoe, including a first spring snow melt at the lake... started 19 days earlier in march than it did back in 1961. researchers also say climate change is contributing to the growth of algae in the lake this summer, reducing the lake's famous clarity. (vicki) the long, unbelievable ski season at mammoth mountain.. is coming to an end...(grant) the last day the mountain will be open is next sunday august sixth... but you don't have to wait too long for the mountain to be back open... opening day of the 2017-2018 season is just around the corner and will be back open on november ninth...

is investigating a murder on board a cruise ship......a utah man is accused of killing his wife in their cabin.... (vicki) catherine heenan is here with the details on what authorities are describing as a domestic dispute that happened in the middle of a family vacation.. (catherine) investigators say 39-year-old kristy manzanares was found dead in her cabin....covered in blood.the suspect --- is her husband kenneth. he reportedly told an acquaintance who later walked in - that he did it becauseshe wouldn't 'stop laughing at

him.' the woman died tuesday night on the emerald princess.....which had left from seattleand is now docked in juneau, alaska. she had a severe head wound. tonight prosecutors say the man has been charged with murder. the fbi is investigating because the death happened in u.s. waters.. court documents say manzanares grabbed his wife's body and dragged her to the balcony before the witness stopped him. investigators aren't releasing a lot of details yet - but there are reports thatthe couple's 3 daughters were also in the cabin. other passengers say they heard some of what happened... passenger - my wife was taking a shower and i heard terrible screaming. you knew it wasn't normal. and it sounded like two or three women or girls screaming. and then the fighting began again between some men. someone had hurt someone's sister. passenger - the little girls came running out of that room. calling for help - saying their parents had been in a fight. she sounded pretty desperate. kenneth manzanares

( vicki ) a day at the state fair in ohio turned deadly last night... one person dead ... 7 injured. the horrible accident is having a ripple effect across the country. accident in ohio wednesday, when the fireball ride for some reason broke apart and sent riders flying through the air, leaving one person dead, and several injured. voice of: erika monterroza, cal/osha, here in california, we asked that owners of rides shut them down until we can determine what happened and if there are any repairs that need to be made. i spoke with cal/osha spokesperson erika monterroza by phone thursday- the agency oversees the permitting and inspection of all amusement parks in the state. moterroza. here in california, rides must be inspected annually, it is a very through 3 part inspection, included on the ride itself, manufacturers inspection, safety rules. this morning - at cal expo state fair in sacramento the fire ball ride just a day earlier thrilled riders with its drammatic spins stood still. cal osha spokesperson erika monterroza tells me inspectors with the agency's amusement ride and tramway unit on the

ground going over every piece of the equipment. besides the annual inspections, through the year, there are spot inspections. monterrozza. we come un-announced to look at make sure all of those running the rides are trained. kris reyes, santa cruz beach boardwalk. "we are communicating with the manufacturer." on the santa cruz boardwalk - the fire ball also closed down shortly after news of the tragedy in ohio. reyes. our fireball has not had an problems. it has an excellent safety record. kron four asked calosha for the safety record of 6 fireball rides. we wanted to know, last time they were inspected and whether there had been any violations or accidents. calosha said it would take time to collect the data and turn it oveer. reyes. california has some of the safety rides and that is because inspections. reyes also adds that the fireball is one of the most popular rides at the boardwalk, and for now, there is no word , on whether the rides could be re-opened in time for the weekend. terisa estacio kron four news

(vicki) more money is on the table tonight to catch an alleged dog killer in vallejo. today jameson animal rescue ranch of napa county ... has increased the reward money to 15-grand...upping the ante by five-grand. you may remember back in april when kron four reported a woman discovered as many as a dozen dismembered dogs... left in bags off columbus parkway in vallejo. so far, no one has claimed responsibility.. and exactly what happened to the dogs is still a mystery tonight. break of dawn...nats/david williams/bee keeper- "this nest was in a railroad tie in el cerrito." bee keeper and owner of b-z-z bee removal was digging through dirt, pulling out yellow jacket wasps and their nests... before they cause any more harm to the neighbor who requested williams' services. david williams/bee keeper- "they had stung he and his wife and so we removed them. stung me too, but, uh, we got them outta there." unlike bees... wasps don't lose their stingers... so, they can sting you multiple times. they also release a pheromone when swatted at or killed, attracting other wasps... which is why williams' recommends calling a professional to treat the nests with insecticide, or remove them entirely... rather than doing so on your own.david williams/bee keeper- "in my experience, a couple times, people have gone into the backyard, tried to spray

breaking news... an indiana police officer has died after being shot while responding to a traffic crash on the south side of indianapolis. the slain officer has been identified as lieutenant aaron allen - who's been in law enforcement for nearly 20-years. police say the person who killed allen was shot by another officer responding to the scene... and was taken into

(grant) the united states is now warning travelers to mexico about tainted alcohol.... that's after reports of people getting sick -- and at least one death.(vicki) catherine heenan is here with more on why authorities are so concerned... (catherine) u.s. citizens are being told that the problem with tainted or counterfeit alcohol in mexico is serious. lots of people say they've become sick or blacked out - even after drinking just a little. but the biggest red flag - the death of a 20-year-old wisconsin woman named abbey connor. a milwaukee newspaper reports that she was pulled from a hotel swimming pool at a resort near playa del carmen in january...and died days later. she'd been on a family vacation. her brother was also found unconscious after drinking at a poolside bar.

while the 49ers made their way to santa clara this morning. (vicki) kron 4's mark carpenter was at levi's stadium... and has the latest on the red and gold. lately, the 49ers have been a franchise that's used to hitting the reset button as they've had four different head coaches in as many seasons. as training camp rolls around this year, the hope is the duo of john lynch and kyle shanahan will bring sustained success."i think the guys have a real good idea of how we practice now, which excites us because now going into camp. there's two things with camp as a coach, first, you really think about week one and preparing our guys up to that spot and after week one, what are the other stuff that you are gonna prepare them for throughout the year.""i do feel different about this year, it's one thing to say it, but i do feel confident with the direction the team is going and where the franchise is at." a lot of excitement in santa clara...even given the fact they've won 7-games over the last two seasons combined. one person that's feeling good is journeyman qb brian hoyer... who enters camp as the starter and is not

"you know that's always nice, especially with being a human being. you can tell yourself not to worry about things as much as you want to. those thoughts always creep up in your mind, but now just to be able to focus and take control knowing that this is is my team, it's nice to just focus on the football side of it." but before fully focusing on what's ahead...there are still questions about the former 49ers quarterback. colin kaepernick...long gone, but not forgotten....and shanahan says the decision to not re-sign him came down to a matter of fit. the other 'fire ball' rides in california which are also now closed tonight ... due to the accident in ohio . the santa cruz beach boardwalk is one of them. we first told you about the closure this morning on kron four news. operators told our will tran, they have never had any problems with the ride. the park itself remains open. the boardwalk has a unique system where there is no admission fee... it has a pay as you go system. visitors pay fees to go on individual rides. ( pam ) the 'fire ball' ride at the california state fair in sacramento.... sits idle tonight as well. the fair made the decision last night, hours after the accident in ohio. and just like the ride in ohio, this one is also portable. everything else is up and running in sacramento... and it is likely the 'fire ball' will not reopen before the fair ends. the last day is sunday. ( steve ) california has a separate division that oversees the permits and inspection of amusement rides.

today, agents with cal osha were on scene at cal expo in sacramento going over every inch of the fire ball ride. inspectors will be heading out to the other 5 similar rides to examine the rides. a spokesperson with the agency says they contacted the amusement park owners shortly after the ohio accident, asking parks to shut down their rides indefinitely. they are waiting for more information about what caused the crash, and whether there is a fix to make sure it doesn't happen here. california amusement park rides receive rigorous annual inspections as well as unannounced visits to ensure safety. tonight in the widespread sex scandal that has rocked bay area law enforcement agencies. a former contra costa county sheriff's deputy learns whether he will be put on trial. the woman at the center of the case testified once again today.( pam ) kron 4's haaziq madyun was in the courtroom .... and says some graphic details came out.. "i was 17." that text message from jasmine abuslin to ricardo perez was read as pretrial evidence in court here at the alameda east county superior court house in dublin. perez was a deputy in the contra costa county sheriff's office at the time he is alleged to have had sex with abuslin, formerley knownas celesete guap, who is now 19-years-old. perez has been charged with one felony

count of oral compulation with a minor and two misdemeanor counts of committing a lewd act in publicabuslin told the court that she and perez met through facebook back in 2015 and that shortly after they began having consensual sex. she testified the two had sex six times while she was underagepretrial testimony focused primarily on sexually explicit text messages between absulin and perez. those text messages showed at one point a rift occurred between the two when abuslin's cellphone was taken from her by an oakland police officer. she felt the oakland officer was sharing info found on her phone with perez. in a january 2016 text she wrote "i am going to snitch on you trick just like i did with brendan" brendan o'brian is the oakland police officer who committed suicide in connection to the police sex scandal. she continued refering to her age in a text when she wrote "you never suspected i was 17, meth addict hooker"? in once response after she wrote that she was 17...perez simply replied "ok"the defense attorney argued his client didn't know she was 17. in fact abuslin told the court that she lied about her age when she met perez, telling him she was 25-years-old, married with childrenhowever the after considering the testimony and the evidence the judge decided that the former contra costa county deputy
