(tiffany) our top story this morning... a busy san francisco park now a crime scene after a triple shooting in the middle of the day.( james ) the shooting happened yesterday afternoon at dolores park. and among the victims... a child. kron 4's hermela aregawi has the latest. tonight - a man is fighting for his life.he's one of the three people gunned down this afternoon at a popular park in the city. officer grace gatpandan/sfpd spokespersonat around 3:05 this afternoon, san francisco police responded to calls of shots fired in the area of delores park. upon arriving at the scene we located three victims on the foot bridge just on cumberland and church. witnesses describe

this triple shooting with a push alert. stay connected on breaking news as it happens in your neighborhood with the kron-4 mobile app. and at kron-4 dot com ( james ) shortly before the triple shooting at dolores park shots rang out in san francisco's haight-ashbury neighborhood. the shooting happened around 2-30 pm in front of a restaurant on stanyan and haight streets. one man was shot and taken to the hospital. he's expected to survive. police are investigating. no arrests have been made. (tiffany @ landing) another big story we are following this morning... the fire in the east bay hills is being investigated as a possible case of arson. it started wednesday afternoon near grizzly peak boulevard. crews remain on scene monitoring hot spots. oakland police say a man was

arrested in that same area when he pulled out a gun after crashing his car on grizzly peak boulevard. but no word if he is connected to the fire. we do know grizzly peak boulevard is expected to stay closed betwen south park drive and centennial drive until 8:00 tonight. (tiffany @ landing) the fire burned in the same area as the 1991 oakland firestorm. 25 people were killed in that fire and thousands of homes were destryoted. since that devastating fire there has been an ongoing effort to keep small fires from becoming big ones in the east bay hills. as kron4's charles clifford reports, the goal has has been to clean up and manage fire prone non native eucalyptus trees. natssotthe conditions are dry because we have had some hot summer days.john swanson is the interim fire chief for east bay regional parks. thursday afternoon, we drove along grizzly peak boulevard and john pointed out some of the spots where regional parks has been working to trim back brush and clean up fire prone eucalyptus treessotregional

parks has been clearing away dry brush under the trees and removing dry bark. the goal is to keep a wildfire from climbing up the trees and reaching the canopy.sotthe problem there is that when the crowns burn the burning embers are thrown up into the air and the wind takes them ahead of where the original fire is burning.but even though this kind of clean up work has been happening in the east bay hills for decades swanson points out that they will never be able to prevent all wildfires. that's not the point.sotwe are not trying to prevent fires we are trying to prevent disasters.sotthere are going to be fires. this is a mediterranean environment. one of the elements of that environment is fire. frequent fires. sotit's when the fires get so intense they generate the kind of life threatening fires we've seen in the past. those are the disasters we are trying to prevent. loss of property and loss of life.

( james ) a man arrested for a deadly d-u-i crash in vacaville is now charged with murder. police say 65- year-old thomas astarita was driving under the infulence in vacaville when he ran through a red light.. his car then reportedly hit another car driven by a 48 year old woman, she later died at the hospital.

the victim has been identified as cynthia clay. a vigil was held for her near the crash wendesday night. hundreds of people gathered to pay their respects. her husband of twenty- five years says he hopes everyone takes something from this tragedy so it does not happen to another family. ( james ) police have released a sketch of a man they say tried to kidnap a teen in concord. they also sent a photograph of a car similar to the one the suspect was driving. it happened on the afternoon of july 6th on laguna street near ellis street a 16-year old girl was walking alone when a man in a car drove by parked got out of his car and grabbed her. the girl was able to fight the man off - and run awway. if you have any information you're asked to contact concord police. of his work he was gunned down on that tuesday morning.police arrested marquis holloway.it was found the 27-year-old victim was killed using a handgun stolen from an immigration and customs enforcement agent.sot: alison cordova, attorney// "we have a system where the government is unfortunately supplying weapons and putting weapons in the hands of criminals because they're failing to safeguard their weapons properly."this wednesday his parents filed a wrongful death lawsuit in san francisco federal court against ice holding them accountable for the death. although ice policy requires agents use a lockbox - the 9 mm glock was found unsecured in a rental car by at&t park an area police records show had a high rate of car burglaries and 57 firearms stolen that year.sot: alison cordova, attorney// "i don't think that it's a lot to ask that you protect a firearm that is capable of killing someone."cordova says a 2010 government audit found federal agents lost nearly 1 gun every 4 days over a two-year period. sot: alison cordova, attorney// "this is an issue that they've known about for a long time. that's the hardest part to swallow."the audit recommended that ice policies on storing weapons need to be

(tiffany) an anonymous southwest airlines passengers is being called a hero. her actions may have saved two children from being sexually abused. kron four's rob fladeboe has the details. sgt. brian spears of the internet crimes against children task force says that last monday on board a southwest airlines flight from seattle to san jose, a male adult passenger was texting to a woman in tacoma, washington, allegedly discussing sex acts to be carried out on a boy and girl ages 5 and seven.sgt. brian spears/san jose police "...the texts were disturbing. they talked about not just molesting children but also about bestiality..."these are the mug shots of the man, identified as 56 year old michael kellar and the woman on the other end of text messages, 50 year old gail burnworth, both from tacoma, washington.police say a woman

seated just behind kellar was able to see the illicit messages on his phone because of the large font. she then used her own phone to photograph him and informed the flight attendants, who called police upon landing in san jose. sgt. brian spears ".....the person on the other end of the texts was identified and located and more evidence was found along with two young victims...." police said that burnworth is a care giver and that neither she or kellar are related to thechildren, who are thought to have been the victims of on going sexual abuse. police revealed nothing about other possible victims but praised the passenger who alertly spotted thetexts and took action.sgt. brian spears ".....if it weren't for this passenger taking the initiative and taking action to alert the police the outcome would have been even more horriffic, she is a hero...." michael kellar is charged with attempted child molestation and solicitation of a sex crime while gail burnworth is charged with the sexual exploitation of a minor, the rape of a child and a child pornography allegation.

( james ) developing news this morning... the wall street journal is reporting justice department special counsel robert mueller has enlisted a grand jury as part of his investigation of russian influence in the 2016 presidential campaign. this development comes as mueller's team of

investigators continues to look into whether the trump campaign colluded with russia. andy rose is tracking the latest special counsel robert mueller has impaneled a grand jury in his investigation of russian meddling in the 2016 u.s. election, the wall street journal and reuters reported. mueller has already issued subpoenas related to a meeting between donald trump jr. and a russian lawyer at trump tower in 2016. a source tells cnn the subpoena seeks both documents and testimony from people involved in the meeting. mueller's team is also investigating whether or not president donald trump's campaign team colluded with russia during the election. president trump has repeatedly called the investigation a "witch hunt" and denied any collusion between his team and the russians. president trump: "the russia story is a total fabrication. it's just an excuse for the greatest loss in the history of american politics."trump's lawyer says they are not concerned the presidentwill be

persian rugs were stolen. police say 55-year-old john edward reed broke through the front door of heriz rug shop monday morning. reed was arrested in san mateo during a traffic stop. police are still searching for a few missing rugs. (tiffany) the city of san pablo is getting a new police chief. pittsburg police captain "ron" raman has been offered the position of top cop in san pablo. an east bay native, raman grew up in pinole. he earned his bachelors degree in criminal science from sacramento state university and received his masters from saint mary's college. raman has been on the police force for 21-years the last three as a captain. raman starts on august 14-th. ( james ) we are learning more about the machete - weilding man shot and killed by police. it started with a police chase in vallejo and ended with five officers opening fire in richmond. a suspect in an el cerrito robbery. 45-year-old jeffery barboa of benicia has been indentified as the robbery suspect armed with a knife who was shot dead wednesday by vallejo police following a traffic stop and high speed pursuit that started in vallejo and ended in the city of richmondbarboa's vehicle triggered a felony traffic stop because it was allegedly used back on july 22nd during an armed robbery of all star donuts in the el cerrito plaza. el cerrito police lt. steve boninitwo

weeks later vallejo police were involved in a high speed pursuit of the same vehicle allegedly used in that crime with an occupant considered armed and dangerousaccording to jeffery barboa's linked in page he has a psychology degree and was currently employed as the clinical director of a north bay alcohol and drug rehabilitaion center. police say barboa does have a prior criminal history in addition to the robbery case. as for the officer involved shooting investigation, five vallejo police officers discharged their weapons. however, the shooting occurred in richmond so richmond police will handle the investigation vallejo police will be doing it's own internal review.. and the contra costa district attorney's office will also be investigating the shooting. ..haaziq madyun kron4news. (tiffany @ landing) san francisco's largest manufacturer and a craft beer icon has been bought by a japanese brewing company. anchor brewing company has been making beer in san francisco since the gold rush. kron4's maureen kelly talked to the current co- owner about what fans and employees can expect. news of the buyout of the makers of anchor steam beer didn't go down very easy for some those enjoying pints at the company's beer garden near

att park.some worry about the formula changing.amoung other thingsi hope they don't change the history the location of where they brew it and like any startup that's i asked the current owner if the taste of anchor steam will change.don't worry at all. the taste will not change. we are committed to making beer the same way we've always made it here and here on potrero hill. and that's what sapporo committed to and that's why they are such an attractive partner for us.the roughly 200 employees here at their de haro street plant were told about the sale today at a staff meeting.and they left that meeting pretty excited. sapporo is about expanding anchor steam not reducing. there's going to be more jobs added here.rright now anchor brewing makes enough beer to fill 43 million bottles at this potrero hill plant. they ship to all 50 states and 20 countries. this beer buyout will expand the craft beer's reach.we are looking forward to anchor prospering around the world as well as here in the city. sapporo also says they are fully behind the plan to open a new public taproom at this warehouse across the street from the potrero hill brewery, that's expected to open sometime this year. maureen kelly kron4 news

(tiffany) this is jimmy trujillo. he says he is a former drug addict who is going through a divorce and has no car.. for a few days he stood on the corner of a busy intersection in orangevale with a simple sign. he was not asking for money but asking for a job. one woman snapped a video of trujillo while he was looking for work and posted it to facebook.. that's when the job offers started pouring in. and he landed a job at a moving company. ( james ) trujillo says, many people offered him money but he never took it. his job at the moving company is temporary. but says he now has plenty of options for permanent work else where.

dolores park. and this morning s-f-p-d says they are making changes so park goers feel safe. the shooting happened yesterday afternoon when the park was crowded with parents and children. three people were hurt in the shooting. it happened after six men were seen shouting on a bridge in the park. a man then pulled out a handgun and fired six or seven shots, sending people running for safety. ( will ) one man remains in critical condition this morning, and another was treated and released. a minor was also injured in the shooting, but their condition is not known. no description of the gunman has been released. the san francisco police department says they will now have two police officers patrolling dolores park seven days a week.

( mark ) happening now... crews are still monitoring hot spots from the fire burning in the east bay hills. the fire is being investigated as arson. oakland police say a man was arrested in that same area....when he pulled out a gun after crashing his car on grizzly peak boulevard. but officials won't say yet if he is connected to the fire. and there are still road closures in the area this morning. grizzly peak boulevard is expected to stay closed between south park drive and centennial drive until 8 o'clcock tonight. ( mark ) happening this morning...one of the two men charged in the deadly ghost ship warehouse fire will be back in court. derick almena was the master tenant of the warehouse the burned back in december killing 36 people. so far almena has not entered a plea. that could happen today. the hearing starts at 9 o'clock this morning. kron 4 will have a reporter in the courtroom. we will keep you updated on any new developments with a breaking news push alert on the kron 4 mobile app. the app is free to download. bay raid two brothels being operated out of apartments in rohnert park. the apartments are located on rohnert park expressway. police began their investigation after a tip from the complex manager who said men were showing up at all hours of the day. police say they found evidence of prostitution and human sex trafficking. four women were taken to a safe location. officers are still looking for the people responsible for operating the brothels. ( darya ) a man arrested for a deadly d-u-i crash in vacaville is now being charged with murder. police say 65- year-old thomas astarita was driving under the infulence in vacaville when he ran through a red light.. police say he hit another car driven by a 48 year old woman. she died at the hospital. that woman has been identified as cynthia clay. a vigil was held for her near the crash site earlier this week. ( mark ) police have released a sketch of a man they say tried to kidnap a teenager in concord. they also sent kron4 a photograph of a car similar to the one the man was driving. it happened on the afternoon of july 6th.... on laguna street

near ellis street... but police just releasing these pictures overnight. a 16- year old girl was walking alone when a man in a car drove by... parked.. got out of his car.. and grabbed her. the girl was able to fight the man off and run away. ( mark ) the family of a bay area artist who was killed while painting an anti- violence mural in oakland is suing immigration and customs enforcement. they say the gun used in the murder belonged to a federal agent. 27-year-old tony ramos was killed in september of 12-15 while painting a mural under interstate 5-80. when he stopped to take a picture of his work, he was shot and killed. ramos' parents filed a wrongful death lawsuit against ice yesterday. thay say ice agents are required to store their guns in a lockbox, and the gun used to kill their son was left unattended in a car when it was stolen.

( darya ) a southwest airlines passenger is being credited with helping save two young children from being sexually abused. the passenger says she saw a man texting someone about molesting children on a flight he was on headed to san jose. she alerted a flight attendant who then called police. 56-year-old michael keller and 50-year-old gail burnworth were arrested on monday. police say the woman saw keller texting about sexually molesting a five and seven-year-old child. keller was arrested immediately after the plane landed. police later arrested the woman he was texting in tacoma, washington. police say the good samaritan stopped the children from being sexually abused.

(tiffany) a sudden rainstorm caused flash flooding in los angeles county yesterday afternoon. the high waters drowned roads and trapped cars and people in a river of mud. officials say the flooding was at least three-feet deep in some areas.

some intersections were completely washed out. a helicopter crew had to rescue a man stuck in his work truck in the middle of a flooded roadway. there are no reports of any significant injuries so far. rising. nine kids are now sick with six in the hospital and three of them are in critical condition. the children started showing symptoms after swimming at lake wildwood beach in nevada county. the health department has closed down all beaches in the wildwood community after finding the water had high levels of fecal bacteria.. there is no estimated time for when the beaches will re-open. county health officials are waiting for e -coli levels to go down. ( darya ) this morning work is underway to rebuild the pfeiffer canyon bridge on highway 1 in big sur. the bridge was demolished in march after winter storms triggered landslides causing the bridge to buckle. this morning crews are assembling pieces to make metal beams that will support the new bridge. engineers say the bridge should be finished by late september. ( mark ) rap mogul "suge" knight has pleaded not guilty to felony criminal threat charges. the 52-year-old was indicted by a grand jury. prosecutors say knight threatened the director of the movie "straight outta compton."

the film chronicles the rise of the rap group n-w-a. knight is currently in jail on charges of murder and attempted murder for an incident that happened on the set of "straight outta compton" in 2015. ( mark ) the california state university's 23 campuses are taking steps to increase graduation rates. the universities are eliminating math and english placement tests for incoming freshmen. the tests are used to assess a student's readiness for certain math and english classes. as a result, nearly 25-thousand students are placed in remedial courses that don't count towards their degrees. the new plan will allow all students to take college level courses immediately. it will start in the fall of 2018. a woman from her sinking car. and it was all caught on video.( mark ) it happened in marysville yesterday morning. 77-year-old masako edwards was driving on a busy highway when she crashed into a truck. she then veered off into a lake. the truck driver and another man nearby saw her car in the lake.( darya ) they jumped in the water to try to save her. two police officers also jumped in to help. the four men were able to carry edwards back ( darya ) edwards is going to be okay. she says she is grateful for the men who saved her life. with a police chase in vallejo and ended with five officers opening fire in richmond. we first told you about this yesterday on the kron 4 morning news... the man killed has been identified as 45-year-old jeffery barboa from benicia. barboa was shot by police wednesday following a traffic stop and high speed pursuit that started in vallejo and ended in richmond. police say the car matched the description of a car used in an armed robbery at a donut shop in el cerrito last month. when they tried to pull barboa over... he took off leading them on a chase to richmond. ( tiffany ) investigators say jefferey barboa has a

( mark ) the victim of a shooting that led to a 15-hour police standoff has been identified. the shooting happened in corona heights late sunday night..near 15th and beaver streets in san francisco. the victim has been identified as 76-year-old martha alfaro. she died at the hospital. the suspected gunman barricaded himself in his home and refused to come out for nearly 15 hours.. police say he had a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his chest.. he is still in the hostpital with life-threatening injuries. ( darya ) the city of san pablo is getting a new police chief. pittsburg police captain ron raman has been offered the position. he's an east bay native who grew up in pinole. raman has been on the police force for 21-

( darya ) san jose mayor sam liccardo announced he will be running for another term. liccardo has been in office for the last two- and-a-half years. he says he wants to continue to work on rebuilding public safety and confronting poverty. the election will take place in november 20- 18. ( mark ) an abandoned dog is safe after being left tied to pole at the marin humane society. in this surveillance video you can see two women tie up a husky and walk away. the dog seems to strain and try and follow the women who don't look back. this happened tuesday morning. officials with the humane society say when they showed up they found the leash but not the dog. after several hours, they finally found the dog.

( will ) police are searching for a gunman who opened fire at san francisco's dolores park. and this morning s-f-p-d says they are making changes so park goers feel safe. the shooting happened yesterday afternoon when the park was crowded with parents and children. three people were hurt in the shooting. it happened after six men were seen shouting on a bridge in the park. a man then pulled out a handgun and fired six or seven shots, sending people running for safety.

spots from the fire burning in the east bay hills. the fire is being investigated as arson. oakland police say a man was arrested in that same area....when he pulled out a gun after crashing his car on grizzly peak boulevard. but officials won't say yet if he is connected to the fire. and there are still road closures in the area this morning. grizzly peak boulevard is expected to stay closed between south park drive and centennial drive until 8 o'clcock tonight. (darya) happening this morning...one of the two men charged in the deadly ghost ship warehouse fire will be back in court. derick almena was the master tenant of the warehouse the burned back in december killing 36 people. so far almena has not entered a plea. that could happen today. the hearing starts at 9 o'clock this morning. kron 4 will have a reporter in the courtroom. we will keep you updated on any new developments with a breaking news push alert on the kron 4 mobile app. the app is free to download. teenager in concord. they also sent kron4 a photograph of a car similar to the one the man was driving. it happened on the afternoon of july 6th.... on laguna street near ellis street... but police just releasing these pictures overnight. a 16- year old girl was walking alone when a man in a car drove by... parked.. got out of his car.. and grabbed her. the girl was able to fight the man off and run away. (mark) police in the north bay raid two brothels being operated out of apartments in rohnert park. the apartments are located on rohnert park expressway. police began their investigation after a tip from the complex manager who said men were showing up at all hours of the day. police say they found evidence of prostitution and human sex trafficking. four women were taken to a safe location. officers are still looking for the people responsible for operating the brothels. (darya) a man arrested for a deadly d-u-i crash in vacaville is now being charged with murder. police say 65- year-old thomas astarita was driving under the infulence in vacaville when he ran through a red light.. police say

he hit another car driven by a 48 year old woman. she died at the hospital. that woman has been identified as cynthia clay. a vigil was held for her near the crash site earlier this week. ( mark ) the family of a bay area artist who was killed while painting an anti- violence mural in oakland is suing immigration and customs enforcement. they say the gun used in the murder belonged to a federal agent. 27-year-old tony ramos was killed in september of 20-15 while painting a mural under interstate 5-80. when he stopped to take a picture of his work, he was shot and killed. ramos' parents filed a wrongful death lawsuit against ice yesterday. thay say ice agents are required to store their guns in a lockbox, and the gun used to kill their son was left unattended in a car when it was stolen. (darya) flash flooding from a powerful thunderstorm has swamped a southern california community and prompted several dramatic rescues. (mark) tiffany mcelroy is at the breaking news desk with new video of the rescues. (tiffany) a sudden rainstorm caused flash flooding in los angeles county yesterday afternoon. the high waters flooded roads and trapped cars and people in a river of mud. officials say the flooding was at least three-feet deep in some areas. some intersections were completely washed out. a helicopter crew had to rescue a man stuck in his work truck in the middle of a flooded roadway. there are no reports of any significant injuries so far. ( tiffany ) and take a look at new video into the newsroom from overnight. about 200 passengers had to be rescued from a train after the flash flooding eroded part of

we first told you about this yesterday on the kron 4 morning news... the man killed has been identified as 45-year-old jeffery barboa from benicia. barboa was shot by police wednesday following a traffic stop and high speed pursuit that started in vallejo and ended in richmond. police say the car matched the description of a car used in an armed robbery at a donut shop in el cerrito last month. when they tried to pull barboa over... he took off leading them on a chase to richmond. ( tiffany ) investigators say jefferey barboa has a prior criminal history before

(mark) a southwest airlines passenger is being credited with helping save two young children from being sexually abused. the passenger says she saw a man texting someone about molesting children on a flight he was on headed to san jose. she alerted a flight attendant who then called police. 56-year-old michael keller and 50-year-old gail burnworth were arrested on monday. police say the woman saw keller texting about sexually molesting a five and seven-year-old child. keller was arrested immediately after the plane landed. police later arrested the woman he was texting in tacoma, washington. police say the good samaritan stopped the children from being sexually abused.

(darya) the victim of a shooting that led to a 15-hour police standoff has been identified. the shooting happened in corona heights late sunday night..near 15th and beaver streets in san francisco. the victim has been identified as 76-year-old martha alfaro. she died at the hospital. the suspected gunman barricaded himself in his home and refused to come out for nearly 15 hours.. police say he had a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his chest.. he is still in the hostpital with life-threatening injuries. (darya) the city of san pablo is getting a new police chief. pittsburg police captain ron raman has been offered the position. he's an east bay native who grew up in pinole. raman has been on the police force for 21-

(darya) san jose mayor sam liccardo announced he will be running for another term. liccardo has been in office for the last two- and-a-half years. he says he wants to continue to work on rebuilding public safety and confronting poverty. the election will take place in november 20- 18. (mark) an abandoned dog is safe after being left tied to pole at the marin humane society. in this surveillance video you can see two women tie up a husky and walk away. the dog seems to strain and try and follow the women who don't look back. this happened tuesday morning. officials with the humane society say when they showed up they found the leash but not the dog. after several hours, they finally found the dog.

heriz says at least 230- thousand dollars worth of antique persian rugs were stolen from his shop this week. these are some of the rugs that were recovered. police say 55-year-old john edward reed was arrested during a traffic stop in san mateo. he is accused of stealing those rugs. police say a few of the rugs are still missing this morning. (darya) a teenage girl will spend more than two years behind bars after encouraging her boyfriend to commit suicide. michelle carter was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter... after sending text messages to conrad roy encouraging him to kill himself. the two were dating, and both of them suffered from depression. roy was found dead in his pickup truck. he killed himself. after the sentencing was announced, the judge ruled carter can stay out of prison while her case is appealed. some of the victim's family members were upset by the judge's decision.

(darya) the golden gate bridge will have new parking restrictions set to begin this weekend. no private vehicle parking will allowed at the vista point parking lot, which is located on the north end of the bridge. golden gate bridge officials say this is to help improve traffic flow on weekends and holidays. the restrictions will be in place from 11 a-m to 5 p-m. these new restrictions will ast through labor day, september 4th. (mark) a bay area favorite .. and one of america's oldest breweries has been bought out by a japanese beermaker.

anchor steam has been in san francisco since the gold rush. but the local company announced that it is being bought out by japanese beermaker sapporo. many anchor steam lover's are concerned the takeover will mean a change to the beer's taste. but the company's management says it is a perfect marriage. (mark) anchor steam's current co-owner is telling the roughly 200 employees not to worry. he expects that sapporo's purchase of anchor steam will lead the creation of jobs. the take over is expected to happen at the end of this month. (mark) tesla founder elon musk is moving one step closer to building a tunnel under los angeles that would help avoid traffic. a representative for musk's space-x company

presented plans for a test tunnel to the hawthorne city council yesterday. musk has already begun construction on the space-x property in hawthorne. that construction is for a test tunnel that he hopes to extend all the way under los angeles. a representative for space-x says the idea is to copy l-a's road system underground. (darya) four men rescued a woman from her sinking car. and it was all caught on video. it happened in marysville yesterday morning. 77-year-old masako edwards was driving on a busy highway when she crashed into a truck. she then veered off into a lake. the truck driver and another man nearby saw her car in the lake. they jumped in the water to try to save her. two police officers also jumped in to help. the four men were able to carry edwards back to shore.
