train at the bay fair station thursday around 7:30pm when he is struck from behind with a metal object, punched and kicked by a male suspect who ran out of the station and remains on the loose. bart police confirm that they have video of the suspect that was recorded on the train...video that they won't release to the publicyou think they should release that video?however bart police department's reluctance to release videos of violent crimes continues. this incident is the latest example. in previous cases of violence on trains involving groups of juveniles attacking passengers, the transit agency did not release videos because they said the crimes involved minors but according to bart police daily log, the incident at bay fair station, the male suspect is described as an adult male in his late thirties

guy is around you and you should be very aware of. i take the bart every day and i would like to know">she is not alone. in fact every bart passneger i spoke to on and off camera here at the bay fair station told me the same thing. bart officials tell me their police policy is to only release video if they feel it will help an investigation. that policy is not making passengers feel safe using the system while they do know who to be on the lookout for"the guy is bleeding pretty bad so we do need medical"at the bay fair bart station in san leandro haaziq madyun kron4news (grant) since april there have been a bunch of mob-style attacks targeting bart passengers.(vicki) the latest attack happening back on july 20th... right in front of the richmond bart station... several people say they saw a mob of teenagers attack a man in front of the elevators. one of the witnesses was richmond mayor tom butt... even though mayor butt called for help, he couldn't find bart police officers or a station agent nearby to help the victim.

the man was treated at the hospital, and police haven't found the teens responsible. (vicki) on july 7-th... a group robbery with a slight twist. a bart passenger reports getting off a train at u-c berkeley. the rider is followed --- beaten and robbed by four teens. but this time the attack was out of view of bart's new cameras and off bart property. (vicki) then on july first... a mob style robbery at the coliseum station. bart reported a teen grabbed a woman's phone and ran off the train with a dozen others. the woman was not injured but when another passenger chased the suspect...he was beaten but did get the phone back.(grant) at the end of june... a person was punched on a train deaded to dublin. then four people grabbed the victim's phone and took off. police believe the attackers are minors. ironically, this happened on the same day new surveillance cameras were installed on the trains. bart does have video... but is not releasing it.(grant) in may a

group of teenagers beat a bart passenger... on a train at the colma station. in this case -- police were able to track down the teens. four of them were cited for battery and released to their parents.(grant) then the most notorious attack involving a group of up to 60 teens, police say those teens swarmed the oakland coliseum station in late april. witnesses say as the train pulled into the station... the mob starting beating people on the train. then the doors opened... at least seven people robbed. one man and his family are now suing bart... saying the agency did nothing to prevent the attack. (vo full) look at 'the luna,' a small boat that hit a rock just north of alcatraz thursday night. captain erik anfinson and his crew aboard the 'alcatraz clipper' got the distress call from the coast guard about the luna, which was taking on water. the captain pulled his ship up alongside 'the luna,' and the crew helped everybody come aboard safely, to the cheers of hundreds of alcatraz tourists. just minutes after that, 'the luna' sank completely. none of those ten passengers was hurt. coming up tonight at eight we hear from the captain and the crew members of the alcatraz ship who rescued the passengers.

department has released a sketch of a man they say attempted to kidnap a teenage girl. the 16 year old victim was walking alone on laguna street near ellis street. the suspect drove up next to the girl and parked. police say he got out of the car walking up to the girl and grabbed her by the arms, pulling her toward his car. she was able to fight back and get away. she ran home and told her parents. police say the man was driving a car similar to this one. he drove away after the incident in the direction of detroit avenue. anyone with information is asked to call the concord police department. (grant) the california state university system is trying to increase graduation rates. all 23 campuses are eliminating math and english placement exams for incoming freshman. the exams were used to assess student readiness, and some 25- thousand incoming c-s-u students are typically placed in remedial courses that don't count toward their degrees. under the new system, all students will take college-level courses immediately. the tests will be retired in fall of next year. two japanese automakers are going to build a manufacturing

(philippe) and, what did detectives say about the scale of this burglary? francsico's dolores park .... are still on the run tonight. and now, police have stepped up patrols in the area .. in response to the vioelnce. officers say, the shooting of three people in the popular park , full of children and sunbathers, appears to have been a "targeted incident." they are looking into whether yesterdays shooting was gang- related. now, officers will patrol the area 24- hours a day .. the area was only patroled on the weekends before the shooting. "just doing email in the office and we get a lot of fireworks you know, people having fun year round but just around 3 o'clock, bang bang bang, bang bang bang. it was quick succession and you could tell it wasn't fireworks or anything like that" again, no arrests have been made.. and two of the three people wounded .. are still hospitalized. investigators say a fire that burned more than a dozen cars overnight appears to be an accident. it started in a carport behind some apartments on dover way in campbell. the complex is just off hamilton avenue... which is one of the busier streets in the city. a viewer sent us video....showing just how intense the flames were...engulfing the carport. the call came in just before 3 a-m... 16 cars were damaged or destroyed... firefighters managed to save six others. one man grabbed a garden hose to try to keep the fire from jumping to his home.

(estacio reporting)it was a showdown in an oakland courtroom friday. on one side, attornies, family members and friends fighting to get master tenant derick almena out of jail. claiming almena along with co-defendant max harris charged in the ghost ship fire where 36 people people died - should be allowed to go home while they await trial. tony serra, attorney for derick almena. he is being convicted before being found guilty. yet family members of victims - viisibly upset - like the gregory family, wearing a button with a picture of daughter michaela who died in the fire in the arms of her boyfriend who also died, believe the two should not be allowed out. mary alexander, plantiff attorney. "they should not be allowed to go home, the victims can not go home, ever." cameras were not allowed in court, but the judge listened as the district attorney weighed in - arguing almena could be considered a flight risk - that he did not

haaziq madyun kron4news here in oakland. a showdown. attornies respresenting the master tenant in the oakland ghost ship fire believe derick almena should be allowed to bail out. they argued before a judge at almeda county superior court that almena is not a flight risk. that he has family that he wants to get back to including a wife and chlildren. but the da argued his negligence is why he is facing charges and he could potential be a flight risk and a public safety risk. in the end the judge decided to reduce his bail, but almena's attorneys say it is still too high and he can not afford to bail out. he and co defendet max harris are back in court next month to enter a plea.

brought you yesterday... southern california residents are now surveying the afterman of a flash flood. the community of acton was hit especially hard... that is a town about 50 miles outside of los angeles. roads were washed out, vehicles were trapped and some people needed to be rescued. a train, carrying about 200 people was stopped, due to water eroding a section of track. one resident just barely got out of his home with his horses. but he was not able to save his other animals or any of his property. (pam) thousands of caterpillars are invading a neighborhood in tuscon, arizona.(grant) many of them are ending up in swimming pools. we want to warn you-- some people might find this video a little disturbing. experts say the white lined sphinx caterpillars are not dangerous... they are just coming out a little sooner than usual. the caterpillars are looking for food... and eventually a place to dig a hole. but they keep winding up in swimming pools... that's not ideal for kids on summer vacation.
