east county of hall of justice with details. a bizarre and brutal tale - dan? chicago murder suspects monday 0807175pkgappearing before a judge at the east county hall of justice in dublin, 42 year old northwestern university professor wyndham lathem waived extradition and will go to chicago to face murder charges in connection with the killing of this man, 26 year old trenton cornell-duranleau. cornell-duranleau was found stabbed to death inside the suspect's chicago apartment on july 27th. police have said the two had a personal relationship. sot kenneth wine/lathem's attorney 27-35 hopefully the case comes out in the courtroom as it should and the speculation and rumors

stop so that this man can get a fair trial. that's what we're really concerned about investigators say after the murder, lathem sent a video to friends and relatives apologizing for his involvement in the crime which he called the "biggest mistake of my life." friends of his were in the courtroom, but chose not to speak to the media as they exited the courthouse. however, his attorney did speak sot he has people who adore him and have known him for decades and they all refer to him as an intelligent kind gentle soul and i think as the case progresses you will see that side of him.during monday's hearing where cameras were not allowed, lathem's attorney asserted his clients 5th and 6th amendment rights, in preparation for his journey back to chicago.soti want to make clear to the chicago authorities they are not to be asking him questions outside the presence of counsel. also under arrest in san francisco, this man andrew warren. police say warren, who is from great britain and lathem are seen on surveillance video leaving lathem's apartment building the day of the stabbing. authorities say the two drove 80 miles northwest of chicago to lake geneva, wisconsin where one made a 1- thousand dollar cash donation to the local library in

cornell-duranleau's name. the two suspects then disappeared for 8 days before surrendering friday night in the bay area bay area/151 (steve) oakland police are investigating a shooting that injured several people - and tonight, the gunman remains at large. the shooting

happened yesterday afternoon in oakland... on 106th avenue near 'e' street. police say six male victims were taken to the hospital - suffering from gunshot wounds. all of the victims are listed in stable condition. police have not yet made any arrests or released any suspect descriptions at this time. (vicki)a grass fire near grizzly peak boulevard in oakland hills is now 100 percent contained. multiple fire departments working together over the weekend and this morning the 20 acre fire was deemed fully contained. the fire is being considered as a possible arson.on thursday, uc berkeley officers arrested a person who fled the scene of a crash on grizzly peak boulevard near where the fire began. police haven't said whether that incident is related to the blaze. (vicki) and progress is being made on the detwiler fire in mariposa county. the fire is now 98 percent contained. flames have scorched over 81 thousand acres more than 60 homes have been destroyed. right now

16 hundred fire personnel are working to gain full containment. the cause of this fire remains under investigation. (steve)southern california authorities say a man has been arrested on suspicion of starting several recent wildfires, including one that injured a firefighter. 23-year-old jarrod anthony samra faces eight counts of arson for eight different fires.authorities say samra was arrested last week near the scene of a fire about 65 miles east of downtown los angeles. investigators say evidence was found at each scene that connected samra to the fires, which started along roads and at similar times of day.a firefighter suffered a broken leg battling one of the fires in june.samra could face 19 years in prison if convicted. (vicki) a seventh home near a massive sinkhole in land o'lakes, florida has been condemned. officials condemned the home this morning after condemning two others over the weekend. the giant 265 foot wide sinkhole opened on july 14th. crews worked to fill it but had to stop friday when the edges collapsed, expanding its size by 30 feet. they resumed work saturday, bringing in limestone and dirt to stabilize the sides of the hole. officials say the hole appears to have stabilized...but are continuing to monitor it. (steve) the menlo fire department and menlo college - will begin inspecting several

trees next week... after an oak tree branch feel on a group of people in atherton. it happened during a company picnic at the college on saturday. a three- foot-wide tree branch crashed onto about six people, including a mother and her 2-year-old daughter. the little girl was rushed to the hospital after the tree fractured her skull. the girl's mother and one other person were injured, but are expected to be ok. (pam) a man suspected of randomly attacking bart passengers has been arrested. a photograph taken from surveillance video led to the arrest.. (steve ) but in between the first attack and police releasing an image of the suspect to the public...a second bart passenger was attacked, allegedly by the same man...some bart passengers

kron 4's dan kerman is live at the east county hall of justice in dublin with what happened in court today. chicago murder suspects monday 080717 6pkg42 year old former northwestern university professor wyndham lathem has waived extradition and will go to chicago to face murder charges in connection with the killing of this man, 26 year old trenton cornell-duranleau. cornell-duranleau was found stabbed to death inside the suspect's chicago apartment on july 27th. police have said the two had a personal relationship. sot kenneth wine/lathem's attorney 24-35 hopefully the case comes out

money from sanctuary cities like san francisco... that deny u.s. immigration officials access to local jails. the 46-page lawsuit was filed earlier today in the windy city. the request for a preliminary injuction could happen within days. if a judge grants it...it could put a freeze on the policy at least until the civil case plays out. government officals say chicago had to take a stand...because of what they called "threats" from the trump administration to yank funds from cities that don't abide by to it's immigration priorities. north korea is angrily responding to tough new sanctions imposed by the u.n..... following its two intercontinental ballistic missile tests.. catherine heenan is here with more on the reaction -- and the threats. fully contained. it started to the west of yosemite national park last month... destroying dozens of homes and burning more than 81- thousand acres. over the weekend we learned, gunshots sparked that huge fire. a two- thousand dollar reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest in the case. ( pam ) in southern californa... a man is under arrest tonight... accused of intentionally setting several recent wildfires. the suspect was caught late last week near a fire ... east of los angeles. investigators say... evidence left behind at the scene of eight fires... led them to the man. they say the fires started along roads at just about the same time of day. if convicted... the suspect faces up to 19- years in prison. ( steve ) fighting a wildfire is hard enough... but in santa barbara county... nature has thrown firefighters a curveball. crews tackling the whitter and alamo fires say they are frequently running into poison oak. even with all their gear on, firefighters are not immune to

the itching it can cause. more than 400 of them have been treated so far for poison oak. and here is the rub. they don't have to touch the plant... they can get it through inhaling in the smoke. posion oak can also seep through clothing... causing the annoying itch. one solution is to get a special soap to wash the oil off if you think you have been explosed to it. heavy rains and thunderstorms brought flash flooding to the san antonio, texas area today... there were evacuations - and people are still being urged 'not' to drive on flooded roads. catherine heenan is here with details of how some people just were not listening.... ( steve ) heads up... if you plan on taking the golden gate bridge into san francisco -- there will be delays starting tonight. only one southbound lane will be open between 9 pm and 4 am. this will last all week. it's being done so crews can make pavement repairs. buses will also not stop at the southbound toll plaza stop. bus riders are advised to get off at the stop at richardson avenue and francisco street instead.

( pam ) and... get ready to pay a little more to take cal- train. starting in october.... adult fares will go up 25-cents. monthly parking will also cost you more... increasing from 55- dollars, a month to more than 80-dollars. the increases will go into effect october first. the board of directors says, the money is needed to cover the cost of operating the trains. (pam) a seventh home near a massive sinkhole .... in land o'lakes, florida has been condemned. officials condemned the home this morning, after condemning two others over the weekend. the giant 265- foot wide sinkhole ... opened on july 14th. crews worked to fill it ... but had to stop friday, when the edges collapsed, expanding its size by 30- feet. they resumed work saturday, bringing in limestone and dirt to stabilize the sides of the hole. officials say, the hole appears to have stabilized... but they are continuing to monitor it. "unless you can get both parties leaders together to agree were going to do this, its going to be very difficult to get done" this week the president will host meetings in new jersey to talk about tax reform. the administration had hoped to

get this all done by the end of august.but congress won't even start talking about taxes until september. but now some wonder if its even possible to get any reform done this year. political science professor michael cohen of george washington university tells us change is possible because tax reform appeals to more voters. "those are issues you can really move the needle on, it wouldn't surprise me if taxes got done, it wouldn't surprise me if infrastructure got one" in washington, i'm mark meredith. (steve) the city of san francisco is negotiating with fast-food empire mcdonalds to purchase one of their locations.(steve) this is that mcdonalds located on the corner of haight and stanyan streets in the haight-ashbury district. the city attorney's office says there are numerous

problems at this location. some include homeless issues, fights, drugs and even shootings. supervisor london breed says one of the biggest issue's is addressing public safety. ( pam ) one of tesla's main competitors .... plans to stay in california. faraday is leasing a factory in the central valley. this comes less than a month after the electric car company put the brakes on a plan to build a one- billion dollar factory in las vegas. faraday says, by using the factory in hanford... it will be able to put cars on the market much sooner. it

plans to begin selling its f-f 91 sedan at the end of next year. kron4news san francisco police make arrest in twin peak robbery homicide on sunday morning, july 17, 2017 at approximately 7:56am, a jogger running in twin peaks reported hearing a gunshot and encountered a male victim lying on the ground. the jogger administered cpr to the victim. a marked sfpd unit responding to the scene summoned medical aid. the victim, 71 year-old san francisco resident edward french, was transported to a hospital where he was unfortunately deceased. investigators determined that french had been shot during a robbery in which the suspects stole a camera. on july 28, 2017 at approximately 10:19am, an armed robbery took place at st. mary's cathedral square at geary boulevard and gough street. in this case, a 53 and a 33 year-old female victim were robbed of their camera
