whisked away to a hospital to be checked out while police went door to door in search of an explanation. about 9:30, say police, someone described as a care give called to report the missing child and was brought in for questioning. police said the care giver "lives nearby" but offered no details about the boy's parents, where he came from or how he got here. amanda mcgehee"....the streets around ere aren't very well lit and people drive too fast through here, he could have been hot or someone might have kidnapped him..." brandon austin"...i have two little daughters myself so the first thing that is going through my mind is oh my god, anything could have happened and if it were my kids i would be devastated if something happened to them...." and child protective services are now following up with them and the care giver to see if there was any wrong doing. live in san jose rob fladeboe kron 4 news (steve) a scare this afternoon in san francisc's tenderlion neighborhood... following reports of a suspicious device. a bomb squad was called to the area of turk and leavenworth streets around 1 this afternoon. officers closed off the streets and asked people to shelter in place. the item was later deemed safe about a half hour later - and the area has since reopened. (vicki) police are searching for a man who allegedly tried to kidnap a woman in san francisco's mission district. the incident happened early this morning around 2... in the area of 21st and folsom streets. police say the 18-year-old victim met the suspect... and got into his vehicle... but as she tried to get out of the car... the suspect refused to let her out. officers say the woman was eventually able to escape and call for help. the suspect took off and has not been located. his vehicle and a handgun were

later recovered. officers have yet to release a suspect description. (vicki) a man wanted in connection with a fatal shooting that happened over the weekend in belmont was arrested early this morning in union city. 27-year-old jovhon stewart was arrested overnight at the union city bart station. according to police, stewart booked into the san mateo county jail in redwood city on suspicion of homicide and unlawful possession of a firearm. the weapon used in the crime is believed to be a semi- automatic handgun. officers say it was not recovered. officers say stewart is responisble for the shooting that killed 24 year old dejohn jones of union city. it happened at an apartment building on ralston avenue. (steve) all domestic violence charges against ex-49er cornerback tramaine brock have been dropped... prosecutors say they did not have enough evidence to charge the ex-player and the victim in the case no longer wanted to cooperate. the domestic violence charges were filed back in june when the 28-year-old's girlfriend says brock punched her and tried to

strangle her... the victim says one of the times brock was trying to strangle her ... she was holding their one-year-old child. brock's attorney has not commented on the case. for a march in the east bay to mark the 72nd anniversary of the nagasaki and hiroshima nuclear bombings. marchers commemorated the anniversary of the 1945 nuclear bombings by the united states of hiroshima and nagasaki in japan. the march included a talk by former pentagon war planner and whistleblower daniel ellsberg and a chalking of bodies on the pavement to memorialize remains found after the bombings. "it seems more important than ever litterally today because of the tension with north korea. the climate of war in the whitehouse calls for spemding billions more to develop nuclear weapons. but most urgently because the pres said yesterday that he will unleash fire and fury on north korea." the bombings killed 140

(vicki) president trump's former campaign chairman paul manafort home - raided by f-b-i agents.. a cnn source says agents seized materials in manafort's home as part of the ongoing russia investigation led by justice department special counsel robert mueller. manafort's spokesman confirmed the search, saying quote -- "mister manafort has consistently cooperated with law enforcement and other serious inquiries and did so on this occasion as well." manafort's home in washington's northern virginia suburbs was searched on july 26th. it was the day after manafort met with senate intelligence committee investigators. campbell. it happened on sondra way at around noon yesterday. crews were still on scene early this morning removing the last pieces of that crane. crews were working to replace a p-g-and-e power pole when the crane collapsed. it was stuck in a yard and was resting on a neighbor's garage. there is no word yet on how much damage the crane caused to the homes. it did knock out power to several homes but the power has since been restored. (vicki) san rafael police are looking for a man officers say sexually battered a woman on a jogging trail. police have released this sketch of the man they believe is responsible. the victim is a 46 year old woman. she says the suspect grabbed her on three separate occasions while jogging on a path behind pickleweed park. a witness was nearby and saw the interaction and took a photo of the suspect. officers are asking anyone with information to call the san rafael police department. (vicki) a fire broke out near oakland's mac-arthur bart station early this morning. just after three am-- the fire department received a call about smoke coming from bushes along highway 580 and

24. crews were able to contain the fire by four am. officials say the fire was sparked by a pile of garbage in the bushes. (steve) a convicted killer was charged today for three recent attacks on bart trains. mario washington was charged with three counts of assault with a deadly weapon and a misdemeanor count of battery washington a 42-year-old construction worker from san pablo, was arraigned this afternoon in dublin. washington was convicted of voluntary manslaughter in 2001, among other charges. officers say last week on bart washington hit a man in the head with a pair of bolt cutters. bart police officers arrested washington about three hours after they held a news conference seeking the public's help in catching him. (vicki) police are investigating after a yuba city offcer was recorded on camera punching a suspect. as sonseeahray tonsall reports - some witnesses say they saw the suspect hit the officer first. nats: video clipthis is part of what happened monday on

or serous they are..we take those matters seriously."yuba city police aren't releasing many details about what led up to the punch and resulting arrest...of 58 year old ronald ybarra for resisting and a probation violation. citing this as a personnel issue... they also won't provide any history on the officer involved in a situation now under internal investigation aside from saying he's still on the best...per department policy."there's use of forces frequently so all those are reviewed and if we find a violation of policy then we take a different action toward that."as he sits in jail, ronald ybarra's wife told fox40 by phone...that when he was hit he was trying to pull out his wallet and phone to show the officer...that he'd called 911 for help in that initial disturbance at taco bell. the ybarras say ronald stopped to confront a man identified to them by their bank...as the thief who illegally cashed a credit card based check against their account for 5,000 dollars.for this witness...nothing excuses what she saw out of ronald ybarra."i think the guy in question is even more guilty because he went looking for it he was already angry...he was already aggressive.""really? having a felony now because you hit a police officer? is that worth it?"

(vicki) the suspect was in court this afternoon to be arraigned. bail is being withheld - because of his probation violation. (steve) united airlines is apologizing to the owners of dog who died in the cargo hold of a plane on a flight from houston to san francisco. a united spokesman said that the airline is reviewing the incident. the family in houston says their 5-year- old cavalier king charles spaniel was on a flight that was delayed on the ground for two hours sunday. in 2016, nine animals died and 14 were injured on united flights, more than on any other u.s. airline. (vicki) a scare this morning for passengers onboard a delta flight at atlant... a passenger jet aborted its take-off and had to be evacuated - after blowing two tires on the runway. the flight was headed to tulsa with 46 passengers on board.

(vicki) the ceo of google's youtube division is responding to the controversial memo swirling around her company. the internal memo written by an employee said gender bias exists because women are biologically unsuited for tech jobs and more neurotic than men. susan wojcicki (wo-jih-ski) criticized the memo and its argument that "biological differences" explain why so few women hold tech in her column for fortune magazine. she also outlined discrimination she continues to experience as a woman in tech, despite her status. the engineer who wrote the memo has since been fired. (steve) five active-duty transgender service members have filed a lawsuit to stop president trump's apparent move... to ban transgender people serving in the military. the service members in the lawsuit, who are not named, are asking a federal

court in d-c to block implementation of the ban. they argue it violates the equal protection clause of the constitution... and flies in the face of the previous guidance issued under the obama administration permitting open service by transgender service members. the lawsuit does not say the pentagon has actually put the ban in place... but rather that the white house has expressed official guidance. (vicki) a more than century old headstone was found buried underneath a garage in san francisco. a team of electricians made the discovery yesterday in laurel heights. the crew says it came across the headstone while upgrading an eletrical panel on iris avenue near mayfair drive. turns out, several headstones have been found in that area before. the san francisco medical examiner's office says the entire neighborhood used to be cemetary before the start of world war two... when the bodies were exhumed and moved to colma to make way for housing. daniel mccluskey/lowes electric- "found out it was from germany. some of the, the guy passed away 1896 and there's several names on the headstone itself." and, the homeowners say

this isn't this first time a headstone has turned up on their property. they found one belonging to a japanese merchant more than 30 years ago and had the headstone returned to the man's family. as for this most recent headstone, the married couple says it plans to keep it exactly where it is. paying attention. they weren't being courteous. they were texting and driving, they weren't wearing seat belts and going too fast and they weren't observing that it was a school zone.nearly one thousand students from 22 states took part in a teen road assessment program. participants took traffic counts and looked for ways to make their routes to school safer.sandra spavone is the executive director of the family, career and community leaders of americathe non-profit partnered with state farm to conduct the survey.sandra spavone/ fccla "we felt we had done a lot of work about telling them to putting your phone down, buckle up, don't have too many passengers and what we saw was that infrastruture was another piece" brie standup: as part of the nationwide program, teens advocate for infrastructure changes such as adding stoplights, roundabouts and improving crosswalks. organizers say they are also pushing for more federal dollars to go toward improving intersections for students. guidelines and road designs helped this virginia student bring traffic changes near her school. she hopes to see others take steps to do the same. in washington brie jackson (steve) the three south san francisco officers under investigation for the shooting death of a man have been cleared of criminal wrongdoing. john eno was waving a gun outside his home when the officers shot and killed him. the officers fired 16 shots at eno-- hitting him five times. the san mateo county district attorney announced yesterday that the officers were justified in their use of lethal force. (vicki) happening now... police are searching for a gunman accused of fataly shooting a liquor store owner - during an attempted robbery in san jose. tonight, there is a growing memorial - outside the store where the shooting happened. you can see the flowers and candles set up in memory of hieu lee... known to his friends as charlie. family members tell us when the robber demanded money.... charlie stood up next to his wife and said no. that's

when he was shot in the chest. the gunman remains at large - police have not yet released a suspect description. a vigil for lee will be held at charlie's liquor store on friday night at 7:30. (steve) in texas... when two men tried to rob a cell phone store... the father and son decided they were not going to let someone hurt the business it has taken them years to build. khurrum monga (kear-rum munga) and his 23-year-old son were working at their z-comm cell phone store when the attempted robbers walked in. one man points his gun at the father and son demanding cash and phones. but when that man jumps over the display case-- monga's son decided to fight back. the son pushes the gunman to the ground. the father and son pair work together to fight off the attempted robbers. (khurrum monga/store owner): "when my son jumped in, i just followed him. that was just him. whatever happened was going to happen. i don't know. if something were to happen - would happen for both of us." even when the second gunman points a gun at them, the

father and son continue to push them out of the store. one would-be robber ran away and the other gunman struggled to get out the store. the first gunman left behind his loaded gun. neither the son or dad were armed. they know they're lucky no shots were fired and no one was hurt. (steve) tiger woods' has agreed to plead guilty to reckless driving... his arraignment that was scheduled for today has been postponed until october 25th. the golfer has entered into the county's program for first-time dui offenders. if he completes the program, he can ask a judge to expunge the reckless driving conviction. woods was arrested under suspicion of d- u-i after being found sleeping behind the wheel back in may. he says he was under the influence of a prescription painkiller and sleeping medication. no alcohol was found in his system. woods announced last month he had completed treatment at an out-of-state clinic to deal with his use of prescription medications. (steve) if you live out in the east bay... specifically dublin... you may have noticed a strange smell in the air. a lot of people have been complaining about it... tonight on kron 4 news at six... we will tell you what's causing it... and how long it will be stinking up the air. (vicki) many parents - of course - believe they know what's best for their baby but - sometimes research says otherwise. tonight ... there is a new study that calls into question - where babies sleep in the home... and for how long. reporter andrew forgotch has the story. katie nissley is proud about the way her newest baby sleeps.

three-month-old noelle sleeps in the same room with mom and dad and all three rest comfortably.katie said noelle can sleep for five hours at a time."i'm not constantly checking on her," she said.the mother of four likes the way she does things and the american academy of pediatrics tells parents to keep babies in the same room for a year to protect against sudden infant death syndrome.now, a study by the penn state college of medicine suggests parents only need to keep babies in the same room for four months. "some of my mom friends i know, they say every little noise wakes them up so they don't like the babies in the room because they feel like don't get more sleep," nissley said. "i feel the comfort of knowing the baby is okay."the penn state hershey medical center researchers found children older than four months, who have their own room, sleep an extra 45 minutes.doctors added that children who have poor sleep habits are at risk for obesity later in life. experts also found that parents who wait too long to put infants in their own rooms run the risk that the infants will experience separation anxiety. "we like them in our room," nissley said. "i know some parents don't, but it's what works best for us."

(steve) gas prices in cities across the bay area and california are on the rise. this week california drivers are paying on average of $2.96 for a gallon of unleaded regular gas. that's up 3 cents from a month ago according to triple a. in the bay area, drivers are paying on average $3.02 per gallon. in oakland and vallejo, gas prices rose 3 cents and in san jose prices rose by 4 cents. san francisco had the highest gas prices in the bay area, and second-highest in the state, at $3.12 per gallon. (vicki) it all happened before six last night at kezar stadium... san francisco officer robert fung was working a basketball event starring golden state warriors star steph curry... when he saw a man in the crowd lose consciousness and stop breathing... officer fung sprung into action... he called for medical back up and began giving the man c-p-r until medics arrived... the man was rushed to the hospital where he is now in stable condition... and it's all because of officer fung's quick response. the s-f-p-d released a statement on facebook saying how proud they are of officer fung.
