( james ) our top story this mornig... the manager of a popular north beach restaurant in san francisco accused of raping his own stepson. police say the victim, who's now an adult, says the abuse went on for years.(robin) and now the owner of the restaurant breaks his silence and talks with kron 4's j-r stone about the allegations. i did, honestly not many people wanted to be associated with this story because of the sick accusations. this is the restaurant that the suspect owned at one time and helped run before he was arrested. gaspare giudice (gos-parey jew-die-chay)..former restaurant owner and manager is behind bars right nowaccused of multiple sex crimes against a child including rape charges over a period of several years. the alleged victimhis stepson.sot i was just completely speechless..totally flabbergasted.in shockand literally lost sleep thinking how could this be. how could this be.police say the crimes

happened when the stepson, who is now an adult, was between the ages of 6 and 11. this woman who chose not to be identified has known giudice (jew-die-chay) for several years. she also knows his stepson as well. her thoughts echo that of so many in this tight knit italian community. sot it's just we never imagined he has a wonderful family a beautiful wife. he was always working he very seldom took a day off and ummm and he he represented at least the front of the house for us for many many years.giudice (jew-die-chay) was arrested last week following a police investigation. wednesday it was business as usual at original u.s. restaurant. the italian restaurant in north beach that giudice (jew-die-chay) once owned and a restaurant that he had been managing.sot if this is truehe had everybody fooled. sot used to go there a lot but no more.sot he's in a world of trouble and umm nobody had any idea nobodyi can promise you that.at this point authorities are not looking for any other victims. the suspect is in jail tonight being held on a 3 million dollar bond. those from the restaurant here chose not to talk on camera with us but say like everyone else

( james ) also in the south bay... a toddler is safe after two people found him wandering around the streets of san jose. around 3-30 am yesterday morning amanda mcgehee and brandon austin were headed to work when they saw the two-year-old walking in the middle of the road. they picked up the boy, and called 911. the couple say there was no indication of where the child came from and no sign that anyone was looking for him. ( james ) the toddler was taken to the hospital to be checked out while police went door to door in search of an explanation. police say around 9-30 someone described as a "care giver" called to report the missing child. it will be up to the family violence unit to determine whether that person or the boy's parents could face charges.

(robin) a man accused of attacks on bart passengers has been charged with three felonies and a misdemeanor. and now we're learning more about the suspect's past.( james ) mario washington was convicted in 2001 of voluntary manslaughter. then in 20-12 he was convicted of felony grand theft and felony burglary in 20-14. the current charges stem from three attacks in three days last week.(robin) on august 3rd police say he used bolt cutters to hit a passenger in an apparent unprovoked attack. the next day he's accused of charging at a man again with the bolt cutters in hand. washington is also charged with punching a train passenger in the face saturday august 5-th. he was arrested monday just a few hours after police released surveillance photos to the public. (robin) another big story we are following this morning... a san francisco couple says they"ve been terrorized by a repeat criminal in their neighborhood. they say he broke into their home - taking priceless family heirlooms, a passport and more. ( james ) happening now: san rafael police are looking for a man who sexually battered a woman on a jogging trail. this is a sketch released by police. the victim is a 46-year-old woman who says the man grabbed her in pickleweed park near a target store. a witness managed to take a photo of the man. if you recognize this person - contact police. (robin) a warning out if you park in santa clara. police say there's been a rise in smash and grab incidents in a popular parking lot. all five incidents happened last tuesday night at a shared parking lot on great america parkway and mission college boulevard right next to the i-hop restaurant. police say the thieves broke windows and stole backpacks, notebooks and laptops. and point out that all the stolen items were left in plain view.

(robin) crews finally removed a crane that crashed into a home in campbell. it happened tuesday on sondra way around noon. workers were still on scene early yesterday morning removing the last pieces.. the crane collapsed as a p-g-and-e power pole was being replaced. it came down in someone's yard. resting on top of a garage. it's not clear yet how much damage was done... but for a time, power was knocked out at several homes. it's since been restored. ( james ) a construction project to reinforce a major sewer main in dublin has some people upset.(robin) as kron4's maureen kelly reports the method being used is causing a real stink. the project is a big one.crews working for the dublin san ramon services district are rehabbing 8- thousand feet of concrete pipeline that's 50 years old and showing signs of it's age.. the sewer main carrys half the city's wastewater to a treatment plant in pleasanton instead of digging it up and replacing the concrete pipethey are using a new method.that can create a weird smell in the air.that smells nothing like you would expect.smells like plastic curing.that's because they are lining the pipe with a flexiable styrene resin fabic that once cured will seal the pipe from the inside. it's basically like. putting in a brand new pipe on the inside. which is cured it it becomes very hardeven if the outside of the pipe where to fail, the inside the pipe is going to be perfectly finebut that curing

process is what causes the plastic smell. which the project engineer says isnt' hazerdousbut they are advising people to close up their doors and windows if they smell it. while smelly, this method of construction is both cheaper and faster digging up the old pipe and replacing it with a new one.it takes a couple of days convenience or putting in the pipe that's going to last for 50 years and we're also not excavating the road as much which would take monthsa couple of residents to call the ulility and complain about the smell on tuesday when the liner was being installed and cured. others say they are happy to hear the construction taking place on busy village parkway will be quicker because of the stinky work.no one likes traffic and we are so congested anyway, so blocking off roadways is not fun(maureen)there's no odor in the air today but that doesn't mean the stinky part of the job is over. these crews will be installing that pipe liner starting thursday so that plastic smell maybe present through the weekend. but that part of the job will be on village parkway south of dublin boulevard in a non-residential part of town. the rest of the project which is not expected to stink, is expected to be complete by the end of october maureen kelly kron 4 news

(robin) and a mountain lion warning in san mateo county. a big cat was spotted in a back yard of a home on bennington court. that is in the highlands neighborhood of west san mateo. experts say if you encounter a mountain lion try to look as big as possible. also make as much noise as you can and do ánotá turn your back. (robin) quite the discovery by a team of electricians working in a garage in san francisco's laurel heights neighborhood they were installing a new electrical panel when they dug up a century old headstone. the medical examiner's office says the home, and entire neighborhood, were built on top of an old cemetary. around the start of world war two - the bodies were exhumed and moved to colma. but some of the headstones were left behind and used as landfill. (robin) the homeowners say this isn't this first time a headstone

has turned up on their property. they found one belonging to a japanese merchant more than 30 years ago and had the headstone returned to his family. as for this most recent headstone, the couple who found it plan to keep it where it is... this edition of people behaving badly. i heard there was a satellite dish once yea a huge satellite dish it's weighed like 200 pounds yea couldn't break down at all it was bad how do you get rid of that we broke it down showly but surely. inside a thrift store in burlingame you can find all type or items for sale from jewerly to books . but outside the thirft store you might find and old couch maybe even an old television the items in the inside of the thrift store are for sale however the items outside can't be in fact they will have to be taken to a landfill, more than likely at the cost of the thrist store . and this is just any thirft store . what you buy here benefits this place nats: ambiance this is the peninsula humane society and spca a non profit organization that relies on donations and help from volunteers to keeps it's doors open to take care of all types of animals like thise kittens .. and who doesn't like kittens.. oh sorry i got distracted . where was i .. oh yea kittens . wait no back to the thrift store nats: ambiance it called pick of the litter it offers second hand treasures and all its proceeds support the peninsula humane society and spca dispite all the signs and the cameras posted out side some

people are leaning items the thrift store simply can't sell usually the items are dropped off at night nats: ambiance in the door of the store there is a long list of items they simply cant accept, like mattresses, baby car seats , and may other item that do not sell like used underwarethe request that you only make drop offs during opening hours and they love donations of shoes and boots .. oh im sorry, i almost for geot to introduce you to pearl . she took a liking to me nats: ambiance here the deal, please don't drop off you unwanted items at pick of the litter unless they are things they accept make sure you walk it trough the front door and not toos in the back i had no idea this thrift store was here, but now i'm going to pop some tags, even if i only have 20 dollars in my pocket i'm on the come up this is for the kittens this is really awesome in burlingame stanley roberts kron 4 news

(robin) the trump administration has been hit with more bad news in the ongoing special counsel investigation into possible russia collusion. we have learned that the f-b-i raided a home of president trump's former campaign chairman last month. federal agents descended on paul manaforts virginia

apartment in a pre-dawn raid in late july. they seized financial and tax records, among other documents. manafort has denied ties between russia and the trump campaign. but investigators became suspicious of him after intercepting communications about russian efforts to work with manafort for information to hurt hillary clinton's bid. ( james ) the u.s. believes that several state department employees at the u-s embassy in havana were subjected to an "acoustic attack". that someone used sonic devices which left at least two of them with serious health problems. andy rose has more. / state dept. spokeswoman: "some u.s. government personnel who were working at our embassy in havana, cuba...reported some incidents which caused a variety of physical symptoms."the u.s. believes that several state department employees were subjected to what officials called, an "acoustic attack," while working in havana.the alleged attackleft at least two employees with such

( darya ) the manager of a popular san francisco restaurant is accused of multiple sex crimes against a young boy. gaspare giudice was the manager at "original u-s restaurant" in north beach. he was arrested

last week after police say an investigation led them to believe he is responsible for several sex crimes against his own step son. police say the crimes happened for several years when the stepson was between the ages of six and 11. the victim is now an adult. the owner of "original u.s." says everybody who works there is shocked to hear the allegations. ( mark ) a san francisco couple says they have been terrorized multiple times by the same man in their neighborhood. here is surveillance video of one of the incidents in bernal heights. the couple has had their home burglarized, their car broken into, and

( mark ) a man accused of attacks on bart passengers has been charged with three felonies and a misdemeanor. and now we're learning more about the suspect's past. mario washington was arrested on monday after bart released surveillance images from recent attacks. now we are learning that washington was convicted in 2001 of voluntary manslaughter. then in 20- 12 he was convicted of felony grand theft and felony burglary in 20-14. the current charges stem from three attacks last week.

( darya ) a toddler is safe after two people found him wandering around the streets of san jose. we broke this story yesterday on the kron 4 morning news. now we are hearing form the couple who found the boy. amanda mcgehee and brandon austin were headed to work early yesterday morning when they saw the two-year-old walking in the middle of the road. they picked up the boy and called 9-1-1. the couple says there was no indication of where the child came from and no sign that anyone was looking for ( darya ) the toddler was taken to the hospital to be checked while police searched for his parents. finally someone described as a "care giver" called to report the missing child and they were reunited. the family violence unit will now determine whether

( darya ) police are looking for a man who grabbed a woman jogging along a park trail in san rafael. the incident happened back in june, but police just released this sketch and cell phone picture yesterday. the 46-year-old woman was on a path behind pickleweed park. the man came up from behind her at least three times and grabbed her, but the woman fought back each time and got away. investigators do not know if the man specifically followed the woman and continued to harass her, or walked in her direction and happened to see her again. police are crediting an officer with saving a man's life at kezar stadium. it happened during steph curry's basketball event on tuesday night. san francisco police just releasing the information. officer robert fung was working at the event when he saw a man in the crowd lose consciousness and stop breathing. officer fung called for medical back up and began giving the man c-p-r until medics arrived. the man was rushed to the hospital where he is now in stable condition. the s-f-p-d says the are proud of officer fung's quick actions. ( darya ) a team of electricians working in a garage in san francisco's laurel heights neighborhood made a unique discovery.

they were installing a new electrical panel when they dug up a century old headstone. the medical examiner's office says the home and the entire neighborhood was built on top of an old cemetary. around the start of world war two - the bodies were exhumed and moved to colma. some of the headstones were left behind and used as landfill. ( darya ) the homeowners say this isn't this first time a headstone has turned up on their property. they found one belonging to a japanese merchant more than 30 years ago and had the headstone returned to his family. ( mark ) paris police are looking for more background information about the person who attacked a group of soldiers. police are searching an apartment complex they say is linked to the attacker who was arrested yesterday. police still have not released the person's name or said what may have motivated the attack. six soldiers were injured when the attacker rammed them with a car. two of the soldiers

( mark ) this morning we are getting our first look at new police video showing officers rescuing a man who was nailed to a tree. this happened in albuquerque, new mexico. police were called when a worker found a man with both hands nailed to a tree. he later told police that two men were sent to threaten him after he was involved in an ugly real estate deal. it took crews several hours to free him from the tree. ( darya ) a navy veteran is under arrest in southern california accused of poisoning and maiming his neighbor's dog. police say he doused the dog with acid and gouged one on the dog's eyes. this happened in oceanside. the man is being charged with animal ( darya ) nissan is recalling more than 50- thousand titan pickup trucks. the company says the passenger side seat belts on the trucks may not work

police are trying to identify a man who robbed another man right in front of his home. this is who police are looking for for. they say it happened at a home on manuel t. freitas parkway near montecillo. the victim says after he got home... a man ran up to him and pointed a gun .. demanding his wallet. after taking his wallet and some jewelry the thief ran away. ( darya ) three south san francisco police officers under investigation for the shooting death of a man have been cleared of criminal wrongdoing. investigators say john eno was waving a gun outside his home in may when the officers shot and killed him. the officers fired 16 shots at eno-- hitting him five times. the san mateo county district attorney announced that the officers were justified in their use of lethal force. ( mark ) a warning for people in dublin after construcion work on an old sewer main is causing a foul odor. construction crews are lining the pipe with a flexable fabric that will seal the pipe from the inside.

( darya ) united airlines is apologizing to the owners of dog that died in the cargo hold of a plane on a flight from houston to san francisco. a united spokesman said that the airline is reviewing the incident. the family in houston says their 5-year- old dog was on a flight that was delayed on the ground for two hours sunday. in 2016, nine animals died and 14 were injured on united flights, more than on any other u.s. airline. ( darya ) americans working at the u-s embassy in cuba are injured in what is being called an "acoustic attack." the u-s state department says the attack happened earlier this year but

(darya) this happened at the san jose interntional airport. will tran is live with the details. will? here is the airport's statement on the incident.at 2:10 am on thursday, aug. 10, 2017, two mineta san jose international airport (sjc) maintenance workers were transported to a local hospital with carbon monoxide exposure symptoms. the workers were using a gasoline- powered saw cutter in an interior, lower-level area of terminal a which is remote from the boarding gates. at about 1 am, the workers began

experiencing headaches, lightheadedness and shortness of breath. they reported the situation to their supervisor who immediately shut down the operation. on-airport san jose fire department (sjfd) personnel responded to treat the ill workers. sjfd's testing in the area revealed higher than normal levels of carbon monoxide. airport staff ventilated the area with fans and fresh air through open doors monitored by security guards. sjfd personnel's subsequent testing revealed acceptable levels of carbon monoxide. there was no impact to passenger or employee operations as the terminal was closed with minimal employee presence at the time. passenger operations will continue as normal when security screening begins at 430 am. ( darya ) this morning north korea is releasing its plan to fire four missiles into the sea off guam in the coming days. (mark) the manager of a popular san francisco restaurant is accused of multiple sex crimes against a young boy. gaspare giudice was the manager at "original u-s restaurant" in north beach. he was arrested last week after police say an investigation led them to believe he is responsible for several sex crimes against his own step son. police say the crimes happened for several years when the stepson was between the ages of six and 11. the victim is now an adult. the owner of "original u.s." says everybody who works there is shocked to hear the allegations. (mark) police don't believe

there are any other victims. guidice is being held on three-million dollars bail. (mark) thousands of dollars worth of football equipment is stolen from a high school in fremont. (áááboxesááá) it happened at washington high school sometime in july, but the school just reported it yesterday. the thieves didn't even break a lock. the school left their gym open because construction is taking place at the site. they wanted construction crews to be able to move in and out of the facility. the burglars stole about 11-thousand dollars worth of equipment. about 15 helmets and 30 shoulder pads were taken from the football team. the upcoming football season could be in jeopardy because they might not have enough equipment. (darya) police are looking for a man who grabbed a woman jogging along a park trail in san rafael. the incident happened back in june, but police just released this sketch and cell phone picture yesterday. the 46-year-old woman was on a path behind pickleweed park. the man came up from behind her at least three times and grabbed

her, but the woman fought back each time and got away. investigators do not know if the man specifically followed the woman and continued to harass her, or walked in her direction and see her again. ( darya ) a toddler is safe after two people found him wandering around the streets of san jose. we broke this story yesterday on the kron 4 morning news. now we are hearing form the couple who found the boy. amanda mcgehee and brandon austin were headed to work early yesterday morning when they saw the two-year-old walking in the middle of the road. they picked up the boy and called 9-1-1. the couple says there was no indication of where the child came from and no sign that anyone was him. ( darya ) the toddler was taken to the hospital to be checked while police searched for his parents. finally someone described as a "care giver" called to report the missing child and they were reunited. the family violence unit will now determine whether charges will be filed. north bay are asking for the public's help identifying a man who fell from a power pole in santa rosa and was severely injured. witnesses say the man was about 80 feet up a tower on tuesday when he was electrocuted and fell to the ground. police say the man's injuries are so severe that they cannot identify him. the only information police have is that he is latino... in his mid to late 20's. ( mark ) a man accused of attacks on bart passengers has been charged with three felonies and a misdemeanor. and now we're learning more about the suspect's past. mario washington was arrested on monday after bart released surveillance images from recent attacks. now we are learning that washington was convicted in 2001 of voluntary manslaughter. then in 20- 12 he was convicted of felony grand theft and felony burglary in 20-14. the current charges stem from three attacks last week. police say he attacked a man with bolt cutters and punched a bart passenger in the face. (darya) a san francisco couple says they have been terrorized multiple times by the same man in their neighborhood. here is

(mark) the u-s coast guard rescued a navy pilot in florida after he crashed his fighter jet into the ocean. it happened yesterday off the coast of key west. the coast guard's helicopter crew saw an emergency smoke signal which helped them find the pilot. the pilot was not injured. (darya) all domestic violence charges against ex-49er cornerback tramaine brock have been dropped. prosecutors say they did not have enough evidence to charge the former player and the victim in the case no longer wanted to cooperate. the domestic violence charges were filed in june when his girlfriend said brock punched her and tried multiple times to strangle her. the victim says one of the times brock was trying to strangle her she was holding their one-year-old child. the 49ers released brock the day after he was arrested in april. (darya) san francisco police are crediting an officer with saving a man's life at kezar stadium. it happened during steph curry's

basketball event on tuesday night. san francisco police just releasing the information. officer robert fung was working at the event when he saw a man in the crowd lose consciousness and stop breathing. officer fung called for medical back up and began giving the man c-p-r until medics arrived. the man was rushed to the hospital where he is now in stable condition. the s-f-p-d says the are proud of officer fung's (mark) paris police are looking for more background information about the person who attacked a group of soldiers. police are searching an apartment complex they say is linked to the attacker who was arrested yesterday. police still have not released the person's name or said what may have motivated the attack. six soldiers were injured when the attacker rammed them with a car. two of the soldiers were seriously injured. (mark) a photo-editing app is removing its ethnicity filters after being called "racist".(áááboxesááá) "face-app" became popular earlier this year for camera filters that turn young faces into older ones. but the latest update has had many people calling the app "disturbing" and "incredibly racist." the "ethnicity filter" could change people's

(darya) people who are on obamacare could have fewer choices and higher premiums for next year. a new report says the number of carriers has dropped. (áááboxesááá) that's according to the kaiser family foundation. the average number of carriers is now under five. in 2015, over seven carriers participated. researchers say most insurers don't know what will happen to obamacare under president trump. this means insurers participating in the program could boost their rates. the findings are based on insurer filings in dozens of major cities. the number of obamacare insurers could change within the next few weeks. (mark) several politicians are being sued this morning for blocking people on social media. the american civil liberties union says it violates people's free speech. the a-c-l-u just filed a lawsuit against the governor of maine, and sent warning letters to politicians in utah. president trump has also faced a similar lawsuit for blocking people with opposing views. this is

(mark) we are now hearing from the man who was punched by a yuba city officer during an arrest. he says he is confused by what happened, and that he was the one who called police for help. we first showed you video of this arrest yesterday... ronald ybarra is a commercial property landlord. he called police after he spotted a man that his bank identified as a thief who stole five- thousand dollars from him last month through credit card cash checks. when he spotted the man the two began to get into a fight. that is when police stepped in to stop the fight. one witness claims it was ybarra who hit the officer first.

(mark) united airlines is apologizing to the owners of dog that died in the cargo hold of a plane on a flight from houston to san francisco. a united spokesman said that the airline is reviewing the incident. the family in houston says their 5-year- old dog was on a flight that was delayed on the ground for two hours sunday. in 2016, nine animals died and 14 were injured on united flights, more than on any other u.s. airline. ( mark ) americans working at the u-s embassy in cuba are

injured in what is being called an "acoustic attack." the u-s state department says the attack happened earlier this year but they are just now releasing the information. the attack used sonic devices and left at least two employees with serious health problems including hearing loss. the two employees had to be brought back to the u-s for treatment. ( mark ) the state department responded by removing two cuban diplomats from their post in the u-s. cuba has denied any involvement in the incident. ( mark ) five active-duty transgender service members have filed a lawsuit to stop the trump administration's move to ban transgender people from serving in the military. president trump made his new directive on twitter last month. the service members in the lawsuit are asking a federal court to block implementation of the ban. they argue it violates the

equal protection clause of the constitution. military officials have not yet implemented the ban and there is no timeframe on when it will happen.
