about 15 minutes, a man checks on her and then someone calls for help. (terisa) on the peninsula... a menlo park home invasion and sexual assault has people there on edge. kron four's spencer blake has the details. a man in his sixties called menlo park police early friday morning to say a strange man had come into his home.the victim lives alone on ringwood avenue, and reported the invader had held him at knife point, tried to rob him, and then sexually assaulted him. "when i woke up at 6:30 and opened the curtains, there were six or seven police cars on the street."in two minutes, police had arrived and set up a perimiter."during the perimeter we were actually able to visually see the suspect running onto the pedestrian overpass."but officers converged on the getaway route too quickly for the man to get away.(reporter) "with the suspect surrounded on either side of the pedestrian bridge, police released one of their k-9s to go after him. then police say the man actually climbed this chain-link fence, came over, and jumped onto van buren road, falling about 30 feet." the fall injured lamar stevens so badly, he could no longer

move."the suspect is going to be in the hospital for an unknown amount of time, and we're going to have to be there also with hum until he's cleared for incarceration." people who live on ringwood say they had heard about their neighbor being attacked online on next door.some of them also say the pedestrian bridge can been too easy of an escape path."we have the pedestrian bridge across which has been used as an escape route before but it's justit's scary."she was referring to a man who raped a woman and used the same overcrossing after the attack in the early 2000s.but cyclists say the bridge itself is not unsafe."it is very well-lit at night and i mean people can be seen crossing over."meanwhile the victim went to the hospital for minior physical injuries. police plan on booking stevens on six different felonies.in menlo park, spencer blake, kron four news. (marty) bart police are still searching for the suspects in another attack and robbery at an east bay station. the latest crime happened around 9:30 thursday night in the ashby bart parking lot. a man was jumped by two other men... they took the victim's backpack, wallet and watch. bart pasengers we talked to at that station are worried.

of anything like that happening">(marty) an ambulance rushed the victim the hospital. no word on his condition. so far no photos of the suspects have been released. police believe they may be responsible for another similar crime in the area. (marty) a burglary warning this morning in contra costa county. police say thieves are targeting homes next to a blackhawk golf course. the upscale neighborhood has been hit by criminals eight times since may. these are surveillance camera images of the men that the sheriff's office says may be burglarizing homes in the neighborhood. the thieves gain access to the gated communities by hopping the 6- foot fence surrounding the neighboring golf course. the sheriff's office is asking residents to lock their homes -- install alarm systems -- and report any suspicious activity. (terisa) washington high school in fremont is looking for help to replace thousands of dollars of stolen football equipment. the theft happened last month, but was only discovered this week. the burglars stole helmets, shoulder pads and other equipment. now the school's upcoming football season could

temporarily halted the campaign looking to oust judge aaron persky for a light sexual-assault sentence he gave a stanford athlete. the court stopped signature- gathering efforts to determine whether the campaign to recall the santa clara county judge should be a state or county question. persky sparked the recall effort when he sentenced former stanford university swimmer brock turner to six months in jail for sexual assault in july 20-16. (terisa @ landing) the solar eclipse is just over a week away. and now it's becoming increasingly difficult to find special eclipse glasses to get a good look at it. astronomers say looking at the sun during an eclipse can cause serious damage to your eyes. even a brief glance at the sun can cause blurry vision or

temporary blindness. so astronomers recommend you wear special eclipse glasses to protect your eyes and better see the eclipse. most stores have run out of the glasses. but fremont libraries were fortuneate enough to have the space science institute send out two million glasses to local libraries across the country. (marty) one person has died after being shot in overnight protests in kenya, police said. four other protestors were treated for gunshot wounds. that comes after the re-election of kenyan president uhuru kenyatta. kenyatta got 54 percent of the votes to secure a second five-year term.

protestors are calling the vote rigged-- while national election officials are saying the vote was free and credible. (marty) a burglary warning this morning in contra costa county. police say thieves are targeting homes next to a blackhawk golf course. the upscale neighborhood has been hit by criminals eight times since may. these are surveillance camera images of the men that the sheriff's office says may be burglarizing homes in the neighborhood. the thieves gain access to the gated communities by hopping the 6- foot fence surrounding the neighboring golf course. the sheriff's office is asking residents to lock their homes -- install alarm systems -- and report any suspicious activity. (philippe) talk about a real struggle...rob lowe/lowes electric- "really tough. i -- i envisioned it being a bit easier." it took two hours, three guys, and an engine hoist to pull this headstone from the ground. it was buried about four and a half feet in the earth. rob lowe, the owner of lowes electric says he was determined to get it out.rob lowe/lowes electric- "i have a great team. they work hard together. get things done and this is the first time i've ever come across one of these." lowe estimates the marble headstone weighs about a ton. his crew discovered it on tuesday, while upgrading an underground electrical panel.

the san francisco medical examiner's office says it was left behind around the start of world war two... when the old laural cemetary in laurel heights was moved to the city of colma. caskets and urns were taken away back then, but some of the headstones were left behind and landfill. initially, the homeowners were going to keep the headstone underground... but then had a change of heart.rob lowe/lowes electric- "i got a call from breda last night. she knows, she knows that i, i collect stuff, and, and she knows that it'll go to a good home. (philippe) you live in the north bay -- you're going to keep this as a collector's item, huh? (rob) yeah, i'm going to put it on the property -- probably next to my vineyard. temescal in oakland. it has been closed since the end of june due to blue-green algae. the algae can make people sick and can kill pets. it is found in just about every body of water. but thrives in warm conditions. and the quarry lakes in fremont are also reopening this weekend. they had been shut down since february because of the same algae. officials had to wait for the levels to be deemed safe. . governor terry mcauliffe declares a state of emergency after fights erupt at a white nationalist rally in charlottesville. this is video of the protest earlier this morning. a judge granted protesters the go ahead to hold the rally today -- in emancipation park. dozens of protesters and counter protesters clashed. protestors also charged police. some had paint thrown on them and others have been pepper sprayed. the white supremacist group is protesting the university's planned removal of a statue of confederate general robert e. lee. the rally has now been declared an unlawful assembly. "hopefully it will all work out. nobody loves a peaceful solution more than donald trump.>(marty) president trump is toning down his rhetoric when it comes to north korea. the president earlier this week tweeted. "military solutions" are "locked and

(marty) a burglary warning this morning in contra costa county. police say thieves are targeting homes next to a blackhawk golf course. the upscale neighborhood has been hit by criminals eight times since may. these are surveillance camera images of the men that the sheriff's office says may be burglarizing homes in the neighborhood. the thieves gain access to the gated communities by hopping the 6- foot fence surrounding the neighboring golf course. the sheriff's office is asking residents to lock their homes -- install alarm systems -- and report any suspicious activity. headstone found buried under a garage in san francsico's laurel heights neighborhood was pulled from the ground. we first told you this unusual discovery a few days ago. and as kron4's philippe djegal reports -- unearthing it was no easy task. (philippe) talk about a real struggle...rob lowe/lowes electric- "really tough. i -- i envisioned it being a bit easier." it took two hours, three guys, and an engine hoist to pull this headstone from the ground. it was buried about four and a half feet in the earth. rob lowe, the owner of lowes electric says he was determined to get it out.rob lowe/lowes electric- "i have a great team. they work hard together. get things done and this is the first time i've ever come across one of these." lowe estimates the marble headstone weighs about a ton. his crew discovered it on

tuesday, while upgrading an underground electrical panel. the san francisco medical examiner's office says it was left behind around the start of world war two... when the old laural cemetary in laurel heights was moved to the city of colma. caskets and urns were taken away back then, but some of the headstones were left behind and used as landfill. initially, the homeowners were going to keep the headstone underground... but then had a change of heart.rob lowe/lowes electric- "i got a call from breda last night. she knows, she knows that i, i collect stuff, and, and she knows that it'll go to a good home. (philippe) you live in the north bay -- you're going to keep this as a collector's item, huh? (rob) yeah, i'm going to put it on the property -- probably next to my vineyard. (rob) uh, i love old stuff. especially, old history." and, this is certainly a relic. lowe and his crew believe this is a family headstone, since there are several names on it. one of them a man from germany who died in the early 1900s. rob lowe/lowes electric- "1813 was the oldest date on there." the homeowners say this happens to be the second headstone found on this property in a 30-year span. so, the be as pronounced if another one is unearthed down the road. in san francisco, philippe djegal, kron four news. a couple of swimming spots in the bay area are reopening this weekend after being closed due to toxic algae. the water has finally improved at lake temescal in oakland. it has been closed since the end of june due to blue-green algae. the algae can make people sick and can kill pets. it is found in just about every body of water. but thrives in warm conditions. and the quarry lakes in fremont are also reopening this weekend. they had been shut down since february because of the same algae. officials had to wait for the levels to be deemed safe. . (terisa @ landing) the solar eclipse is just over a week away. and now it's becoming increasingly difficult to find special eclipse glasses to get a good look at it. astronomers say looking at the sun during an eclipse can cause serious damage to your eyes. even a brief glance at the sun can cause blurry vision or temporary blindness. so

astronomers recommend you wear special eclipse glasses to protect your eyes and better see the eclipse. most stores have run out of the glasses. but fremont libraries were fortuneate enough to have the space science institute send out two million glasses to local libraries across the country. (brian edwards/principal librarian, fremont libraries): "i was very surprised. i went back online to see if i could expand the order and people are selling out.everywhere they're selling out. so i wanted to buy more but they were all out and i was really surprised to see the demand of glasses."(terisa) fremont libraries started with 150 glasses which were all claimed in a hour. edwards says he was able to buy more glasses but they may be very difficult to find now. ( marty ) but there is a warning for those who plan to use the eclipse

warning for those who plan to use the eclipse glasses. if you don't use them the right way you can seriously hurt yourself. matt hinkin shows us what ánotá to do. remember when you were a little kid and you took a magnifying glass outside to set a leaf or a piece of paper on fire and it actually started smoking...well that same concentration...same concept here with the telescope. imagine the concentrated energy from the sun and how quickly it can damage your eye. this is eclipse day. we're going to go out and we're going to put these on our face and we're going to look up at the sun there and you can see that yellow orange sun through the glasses...that's safe...dont do this...don't take a telescope and put glasses in front of the telescope...don't put it in front of a pair of binoculars...that's not what they are for...they are for your eyes...that's what we can't impress enough on everybody is safety, safety, safety, so let's do it right. so now we've got a telescope

set up...some people might think that with the glasses on you can look at the sun through the eyepiece...look what happens when you do that...it's already burned a hole through it...see that's all the time it took...let me do this again...so...let's count.. one thousand one...one thousand two...there's a hole in it...less than two seconds. it's going to do the same thing to the other side of the glasses as it did to that side. and it takes literally no time at all to burn that hole. do not use your solar glasses thinking that they will protect you to look through the eyepiece of a telescope or a pair of binoculars. because...you see what it did to the glasses...imagine what your retina would have to suffer...permanant irreparable damage...no doctor can fix this...so be safe...have a nice day observing the sun.
