about 15 minutes, a man checks on her and then someone calls for help. (terisa) on the peninsula... a menlo park home invasion and sexual assault has people there on edge. kron four's spencer blake has the details. a man in his sixties called menlo park police early friday morning to say a strange man had come into his home.the victim lives alone on ringwood avenue, and reported the invader had held him at knife point, tried to rob him, and then sexually assaulted him. "when i woke up at 6:30 and opened the curtains, there were six or seven police cars on the street."in two minutes, police had arrived and set up a perimiter."during the perimeter we were actually able to visually see the suspect running onto the pedestrian overpass."but officers converged on the getaway route too quickly for the man to get away.(reporter) "with the suspect surrounded on either side of the pedestrian bridge, police released one of their k-9s to go after him. then police say the man actually climbed this chain-link fence, came over, and jumped onto van buren road, falling about 30 feet." the fall injured lamar stevens so badly, he could no longer

look at some of the new medical findings released this week: (marty) instagram can provide a look into your mental health. researchers have developed an algorithm that allows computers to figure out if a person is depressed by scanning their instagram photos. the algorithm analzyes photo color, the number of people in a picture and the number of comments and likes the photo received. these elements were picked based on psychological research about people's preferences for brightness, colour, and shading. researchers found people who are depression tended to either not use filters, or favor the 'inkwell' filter, which makes photos black-and-white. meanwhile, the 'valencia' filter was used by healthy people, which made the images look more vibrant. (terisa) a new study finds an estimated one out of every eight americans struggles with an alcohol disorder. the report tracked drinking patterns among 40-thousand

(marty) bart police are still searching for the suspects in another attack and robbery at an east bay station. the latest crime happened around 9:30 thursday night in the ashby bart parking lot. a man was jumped by two other men... they took the victim's backpack, wallet and watch. bart pasengers we talked to at that station are worried.

(marty) a burglary warning this morning in contra costa county. police say thieves are targeting homes next to a blackhawk golf course. the upscale neighborhood has been hit by criminals eight times since may. these are surveillance camera images of the men that the sheriff's office says may be burglarizing homes in the neighborhood. the thieves gain access to the gated communities by hopping the 6- foot fence surrounding the neighboring golf course. the sheriff's office is asking residents to lock their homes -- install alarm systems -- and report any suspicious activity. (terisa) washington high school in fremont is looking for help to replace thousands of dollars of stolen football equipment. the theft happened last month, but was only discovered this week. the burglars stole helmets, shoulder pads and other equipment. now the school's upcoming football season could

(philippe) talk about a real struggle...rob lowe/lowes electric- "really tough. i -- i envisioned it being a bit easier." it took two hours, three guys, and an engine hoist to pull this headstone from the ground. it was buried about four and a half feet in the earth. rob lowe, the owner of lowes electric says he was determined to get it out.rob lowe/lowes electric- "i have a great team. they work hard together. get things done and this is the first time i've ever come across one of these." lowe estimates the marble headstone weighs about a ton. his crew discovered it on tuesday, while upgrading an underground electrical panel. the san francisco medical examiner's office says it was left behind around the start of world war two... when the old laural cemetary in laurel heights was moved to the city of colma. caskets and urns were taken away back

swimming spots in the bay area are reopening this weekend after being closed due to toxic algae. the water has finally improved at lake temescal in oakland. it has been closed since the end of june due to blue-green algae. the algae can make people sick and can kill pets. it is found in just about every body of water. but thrives in warm conditions. and the quarry lakes in fremont are also reopening this weekend. they had been shut down since february because of the same algae. officials had to wait for the levels to be deemed safe. temporarily halted the campaign looking to oust judge aaron persky for a light sexual-assault sentence he gave a stanford athlete. the court stopped signature- gathering efforts to determine whether the campaign to recall the santa clara county judge should be a state or county question. persky sparked the recall effort when he sentenced former stanford university swimmer brock turner to six months in jail for sexual assault in july 20-16. (terisa @ landing) the solar eclipse is just over a week away. and now it's becoming increasingly difficult to find special eclipse glasses to get a good look at it. astronomers say looking at the sun during an eclipse can cause serious damage to your eyes. even a brief glance at the sun can cause blurry vision or

(marty) a burglary warning this morning in contra costa county. police say thieves are targeting homes next to a blackhawk golf course. the upscale neighborhood has been hit by criminals eight times since may. these are surveillance camera images of the men that the sheriff's office says may be burglarizing homes in the neighborhood. the thieves gain access to the gated communities by hopping the 6- foot fence surrounding the neighboring golf course. the sheriff's office is asking residents to lock their homes -- install alarm systems -- and report any suspicious activity. the san francisco medical examiner's office says it was left behind around the start of world war two... when the old laural cemetary in laurel heights was moved to the city of colma. caskets and urns were taken away back then, but some of the headstones were left behind and landfill. initially, the homeowners were going to keep the headstone underground... but then had a change of heart.rob lowe/lowes electric- "i got a call from breda last night. she knows, she knows that i, i collect stuff, and, and she knows that it'll go to a good home. (marty) a burglary warning this morning in contra costa county. police say thieves are targeting homes next to a blackhawk golf course. the upscale neighborhood has been hit by criminals eight times since may. these are surveillance camera images of the men that the sheriff's office says may be burglarizing homes in the neighborhood. the thieves gain access to the gated communities by hopping the 6- foot fence surrounding the neighboring golf course. the sheriff's office is asking residents to lock their homes -- install alarm systems -- and report any suspicious activity. headstone found buried under a garage in san francsico's laurel heights neighborhood was pulled from the ground. we first told you this unusual discovery a few days ago. and as kron4's philippe djegal reports -- unearthing it was no easy task. (philippe) talk about a real struggle...rob lowe/lowes electric- "really tough. i -- i envisioned it being a bit easier." it took two hours, three guys, and an engine hoist to pull this headstone from the ground. it was buried about four and a half feet in the earth. rob lowe, the owner of lowes electric says he was determined to get it out.rob lowe/lowes electric- "i have a great team. they work hard together. get things done and this is the first time i've ever come across one of these." lowe estimates the marble headstone weighs about a ton. his crew discovered it on

tuesday, while upgrading an underground electrical panel. the san francisco medical examiner's office says it was left behind around the start of world war two... when the old laural cemetary in laurel heights was moved to the city of colma. caskets and urns were taken away back then, but some of the headstones were left behind and used as landfill. initially, the homeowners were going to keep the headstone underground... but then had a change of heart.rob lowe/lowes electric- "i got a call from breda last night. she knows, she knows that i, i collect stuff, and, and she knows that it'll go to a good home. (philippe) you live in the north bay -- you're going to keep this as a collector's item, huh? (rob) yeah, i'm going to put it on the property -- probably next to my vineyard. a couple of swimming spots in the bay area are reopening this weekend after being closed due to toxic algae. the water has finally improved at lake temescal in oakland. it has been closed since the end of june due to blue-green algae. the algae can make people sick and can kill pets. it is found in just about every body of water. but thrives in warm conditions. and the quarry lakes in fremont are also reopening this weekend. they had been shut down since february because of the same algae. officials had to wait for the levels to be deemed safe. . astronomers recommend you wear special eclipse glasses to protect your eyes and better see the eclipse. most stores have run out of the glasses. but fremont libraries were fortuneate enough to have the space science institute send out two million glasses to local libraries across the country.
