two cars get into a race and crash into two homes in the east bay, nearly killing a family. that's according to union city police. this happened around midnight when police say a b-m-w and a truck were racing. they took out a bus stop, then slammed into a duplex . the crash all happened just feet from a fire station.. firefighters heard the crash. a family of two was asleep inside one of the homes. inside the other home, a family of five was watching t-v in their living room. ( marty ) the family of five is now displaced. no one living inside the homes were injured.

( marty ) in response here in the bay area, there was a rally against white supremacy.. at one point protesters shutdown interstate 580, but it is open this morning. more on the local reaction ahead.. the thief took the car from a woman while that child was inside. it happened around 4:00 yesterday morning in oakland on international boulevard and 66th avenue. the child and the car were found a short time later nearby. police say the child did not appear to be hurt. ( marty ) new video this morning will you make you think twice before letting your child near an escalator. a two year old girl playing near an escalator ended up caught in it. this is surveillance video from china. the toddler's arm became stuck. her sister saw it happen and ran to get help. firefighters were able to free her after six minutes. she was taken to the hospital for treatment. ( marty ) all evacuation warnings have been lifted this morning after a fire near lake berryessa. the fire started friday near highway 128 and sage canyon road in napa county. it has burned

114 acres and is now 80 percent contained. roads in the area have been reopened. ( marty ) firefighters also making progress on a wildfire in santa clara county. this one also started yesterday near hale and tilton avenues in morgan hill. this morning the fire is 70 percent contained... 117 acres have been burned. no homes threatened. ( marty ) a couple of popular swimming spots in the bay area are open again this weekend after being closed due to the toxic algae. the water has finally improved at lake temescal in oakland. it had been closed since the end of june due to blue-green algae. the algae can make people sick and can kill pets. it is found in just about every body of water but thrives in warm conditions. and quarry lakes in fremont is also reopened. it had been shut down since february because of the same algae. officials had to wait for safer conditions. . in arizona to begin their preseason against the cardinals. marshawn lynch didn't play in his first game as a raider but he made a statement by sitting during the national anthem -- no word if this is connected with colin kaepernick's national protest last season. derek carr and khalil mack also did not play tonight not too many highlights for the raiders -- in the first -- marquel lee with the fumble recovery getting the raiders offense back on the field. but the cardinals passing game was too much for the raiders -- in the second -- drew stanton scrambles and finds troy niklas for a seven-yard touchdown cardinals win 20-10 as for the niners -- they open preseason action last night with a 27-17 win over the chiefs in kansas city. the biggest take away from the game was the team's defense. third overall pick, solomon thomas as expected had an immediate impact for san francisco. kyle shanahan was pleased with the niners performace after the game -- he even talked about how it felt coaching his first game as a head coach kyle

(philippe) spend an hour or so passing through streets in the town of hillsborough and it won't take long for you to figure out why mountain lions are roaming the area... john bermudez/neighbor- "there's deers around here -- there's rabbits." john bermudez lives off crystal springs road... where the hillsborough police department says it's wildlife cameras recently captured a puma wondering around.john bermudez/neighbor- "they could be hunting -- you never know. looking for garbage." bermudez has four kids and a dog... and, says he's concerned about the sighting because encountering a cougar is a real possiblity, living in the woods. julia pontius (pon-chus) lives a few miles away on jacaranda circle... where a mountain lion was also seen walking around on camera.julia pontius/neighbor- "they're definitely dangerous." pontius also has a dog... but, like her neighbors, takes proactive steps in and around her home, to discourage a puma from approaching and possibily

(marty) an alarming number of sea lions are getting sick due to toxic algae blooms that have plagued california waters. sausalito's marine mammal center says it has already treated 68 sea lions suffering from "domoic acid" poisoning this year. most of the animals brought to the center are from the central coastbut experts say acid levels are also rising farther north.

(marty) shots were fired around 10 friday night near a busy sacramento movie theater, three teenagers were injured. this morning -- police are looking for the suspects. police say a teenager walked into the theatre lobby with a gunshot wound and flagged down a security guard. officers found two more teenagers suffering from bullet wounds. all three were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. no arrests have been made. (marty) a dramatic rescue caught on video. the coast guard rescued a 40-year-old man in san diego just south of point loma. it happened around six a-m yesterday. the crew of a 68-foot fishing boat called the coast guard after a man fell overboard. he was experiencing low blood pressure and other symptoms. crews airlifted the man and his son to the hospital. (marty) new this morning -- c-h-p officials are trying to bring tresspassing charges against two wisconsin men who climbed the golden gate bridge and posted the video to youtube. authorities became aware of the stunt after the video surfaced online in may. the video shows the two men climbing the north tower of the golden gate and doing backflips, somersaults and other tricks. a review of bridge security was conducted after the video was posted. if convicted, the pair would face up to a year in jail. (marty) thousands gathered at the rosie the riveter national park yesterday in richmond for the third annual "rosie rally"... it honor the women who worked in factories during the second world war. kron4's jeff pierce was there.

saturday morning hundreds of particpants dressed as rosie the riveter showed up for the rosie ralley and home front festival in richmond. the occasion was an attempt to surpass richmond's guiness book of record for the most rosie the riveters assembled in one place. it is a friendly competion with a rosie group in ypsilanti michigan who held the record briefly two years ago. they were trying to preserve the willow run bomber plant and this was an idea they came up with back in two thousand fourteen to set a guiness book of record record. the festivegathering was marked by an opportunity to be a rosie for the day and many of the original workers in the world war two ship yards in richmond were in attendence to mark the occasion despite their advancing age. let's see, a hundred and two and a half. i loved the welding and actually got equal pay to the men because we all belonged to the

night... a woman and her instructor were killed when their parachutes apparently failed during a tandem skydive. investigators say the instructor -- 35-year old serena whelchel of california -- was very experienced... with more than 4-thousand jumps under her belt. witnesses say everything seemed normal when the women exited the plane. (marty) the cause of the accident remains under investigation. a go-fund-me page has been created to help cover funeral expenses for the other skydiver, 41-year old wendi gabaldon. (marty) with the total solar eclipse is just over a week away... people across the nation are snatching up special eclipse glasses. doctors are now warning that ásomeá of these glasses may not be the real deal. experts say the glasses need

around 10 friday night near a busy sacramento movie theater, three teenagers were injured. this morning -- police are looking for the suspects. police say a teenager walked into the united artists theatre lobby with a gunshot wound and flagged down a security guard. officers found two more teenagers suffering from bullet wounds. all three were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. no arrests have been made. ( marty ) new video this morning will you make you think twice before letting your child near an escalator. a two year old girl playing near an escalator ended up caught in it. this is surveillance video from china. the toddler's arm became stuck. her sister saw it happen and ran to get help. firefighters were able to free her after six minutes. she was taken to the hospital for treatment. ( marty ) in national headlines this morning. police are looking for a man and a woman involved in a fender bender who then turned it into a violent crime. cameras were rolling when the accident turned into an armed robbery. the driver accidentally backed into a tan colored toyota at a drive through in detroit. the two victims are confronted by this man who forces them to turn over their money at gunpoint. from there the robbers left the scene in their toyota. police are looking for the suspects. police say a teenager walked into the united artists theatre lobby with a gunshot wound and flagged down a security guard. officers found two more teenagers suffering from bullet wounds. all three were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. no arrests have been made. (marty) a dramatic rescue caught on video. the coast guard rescued a 40-year-old man in san diego just south of point loma. it happened around six a-m yesterday. the crew of a 68-foot fishing boat called the coast guard after a man fell overboard. he was experiencing low blood pressure and other symptoms. crews airlifted the man and his son to the hospital. no word on their condition this morning. ( marty ) it's only august -- but rite aid is already selling flu shots. they got the supply before anyone else. this morning, kron4's gabe slate shows us when the rest of the pharmacies and medical groups will get the vaccine. and he talked to experts about if you should get the flu shot now, or wait. rite aid in the bay area are now offering the flu shot they are fully stocked if you think it seems early for the flu shot second week of august you're not alone it does seem to be comin an extrag little bit earlier each year i talk to kaiser they are not even going to have their stock until the end of september walgreens will has the 65 and older flu shot in stock now and ready for the sticking. but people younger than 65 can not get this vaccine it's a stronger one and not recommended they told me they would have the all age flu shot soon.. likely next week. cvs pharmacies have the flu shot now. but only for teens and adults they can do not have a vaccine for kdis under

(marty) a skydiving excursion in central utah went terribly wrong thursday night... a woman and her instructor were killed when their parachutes apparently failed during a tandem skydive. investigators say the instructor -- 35-year old serena whelchel of california -- was very experienced... with more than 4-thousand jumps under her belt. witnesses say everything seemed normal when the women exited the plane.
