have identified the man killed in a officer involved shooting earlier this week as james terry midkiff. police shot and killed midkiff on wednesday night. it started when police received a call about a man threatening people at a home near east airway boulevard and portola avenue. police say midkiff then made suicidal comments and several shots were fired inside the home. four officers are on administrative leave because of the incident this morning. healthy oak tree patrially gave out friday night... buthina rashid/neighbor- "really scary." after a large limb snapped through this concord roof.buthina rashid/neighbor- "it could have been worse." buthina (boo-thee-nuh) rashid (rah- she'd) was hosting a few friends in her home across the street... when at around 10 o'clock at night... as her guests were preparing to leave... rashid was shaken by a loud boom.buthina rashid/neighbor- "so, i looked. i thought two cars crashed." turns out... it was tree limb collapsing onto her neighbors home on tilson drive. the concord police department says at least seven people live on this property. it was pitch black out when the limb fell, so rashid says neighbors rushed over with flashlights to help the people inside of the home get out. she says two men were injuried, but not seriously. police say one of them was taken to a hospital to be checked out. the concord police department says a building inspector did come by and deemed the house uninhabitable. so, until the repairs are made... the family is going to have to live somewhere else.buthina rashid/neighbor- "you know, it looks an old tree and it just fall. and, you know, that scare us. look how many trees right here. so, we all have to really pay attention." in fact, one neighbor says she recently had a tree limb removed from her property,

(lydia) happening now. authorities have issued an evacuation order for the small town of wawona as a fire in yosemite national park continues to grow. the week-old fire has grown to nearly three thousand acres. local authorities ordered those in wawona to evacuate around four yesterday afternoon as air quality is expected to worsen. the town of wawona has a population of around two thousand. the fire is 10 percent contained this morning.. manhunt continues for the driver of the van that killed more than a dozen people. salma abdelaziz has more. an international manhunt was underway saturday for the driver of a van that killed 13 people in barcelona as police probed the wreckage of a suspected bomb factory for clues to the cell behind this week's two terror attacks in spain. the flattened ruins of a house in the village of alcanar have become the center of a massive police investigation into the terror cell suspected of using the house to make bombs. when an explosion destroyed the house wednesday night, killing one person and seriously injuring another, it set in train a series of events culminating in the deaths in barcelona and one more in a second attack in the town of cambrils. a manhunt has been ongoing since a van plowed into pedestrians thursday afternoon on las ramblas in the heart of barcelona, killing 13 and injuring 120. early friday, a group of five attackers wearing fake suicide belts drove into pedestrians in cambrils, killing one and injuring six. police shot all five assailants dead but said late friday it was "increasingly unlikely" that the barcelona driver was among them, reuters reported.

(anny) breaking news this morning... one person is dead and another injured after a car slid down a cliff in gilroy. it happened on highway 17 south of lexington reservoir at about 1:15 this morning. initial responding officers found a person who was walking on the side of the road trying to flag down cars for help. firefighters made their way down the embankment and found the two people. one of them was pronunced dead at the scene. police say alcohol may have been a factor in the

(lydia) comedian and civil rights activist dick gregory has died. his son posted the news on social media. the family says he passed away in washington, d-c last night. gregory gained notoriety in the early 1960's as one of the first african-american comics to perform for white audiences but gregory was not content to simply tell jokes. he used his fame to advocate for civil rights in an era of strict segregation. his experiences with discrimination and injustice became the backbone of his comedy act. later in life he became an author and motivational speaker, promoting spirituality and healthy eating. gregory was in the middle of a comedy tour this month when he fell ill. gregory was 84 years old.

20 years joyce blum has been chasing darkness that lasts just a few minutes. she saw her first total eclipse in 19-94 in the chilean andes mountains.(anny) since then she has traveled to south china, aruba, the black sea and now missouri to see the natural phenomenon. blum says the opportunities came because her brother served as project managing engineer for the moon landing back in 19-69. (lydia) tomorrow, blum -- along with six first- timers -- will be in saint joseph, missouri to see the total solar eclipse. blum even has a backup plan. she says, if the skies get too cloudy, they will all city . (lydia) in the aftermath of the violence in charlottesville last weekend, there had been concerns of possible violence. however -- as reporter andrew spencer tells us -- the demonstrations were mostly peaceful. despite the fears of a repeat of charlottesville, the peace held in boston amid a free speech rally and its corresponding counter-protest. a group calling itself the boston free speech coalition had organized a rally before the violence in virginia, tweeting this message a few days ago, denouncing all violence and telling participants not to bring any

(lydia) breaking news -- the contra costa county sheriff's office is investigating a chase overnight in pacheco that ended with a police shooting. the sheriff's office says the chase ensued after deputies attempted to stop a stolen vehicle. they say the suspect rammed a patrol car -- prompting at least one deputy to open fire on the suspect. however -- no-one was hit by the gunfire. reports are the suspect drove the wrong way on interstate 680 -- and may have hit bystanders during the chase. the sheriff's office will release more information later today.

have identified the man killed in a officer involved shooting earlier this week as james terry midkiff. police shot and killed midkiff on wednesday night. it started when police received a call about a man threatening people at a home near east airway boulevard and portola avenue. police say midkiff then made suicidal comments and several shots were fired inside the home. four officers are on administrative leave because of the incident this morning. buthina rashid/neighbor- "really scary." after a large limb snapped through this concord roof.buthina rashid/neighbor- "it could have been worse." buthina (boo-thee-nuh) rashid (rah- she'd) was hosting a few friends in her home across the street... when at around 10 o'clock at night... as her guests were preparing to leave... rashid was shaken by a loud boom.buthina rashid/neighbor- "so, i looked. i thought two cars crashed." turns out... it was tree limb collapsing onto her neighbors home on tilson drive. the concord police department says at least seven people live on this property. it was pitch black out when the limb fell, so rashid says neighbors rushed over with flashlights to help the people inside of the home get out. she says two men were injuried, but not seriously. police say one of them was taken to a hospital to be checked out. the concord police department says a building inspector did come by and deemed the house uninhabitable. so, until the repairs are made... the family is going to have to live somewhere else.buthina rashid/neighbor- "you know, it looks an old tree and it just fall. and, you know, that scare us. look how many trees right here. so, we all have to really pay attention." in

manhunt continues for the driver of the van that killed more than a dozen people. salma abdelaziz has more. an international manhunt was underway saturday for the driver of a van that killed 13 people in barcelona as police probed the wreckage of a suspected bomb factory for clues to the cell behind this week's two terror attacks in spain. the flattened ruins of a house in the village of alcanar have become the center of a massive police investigation into the terror cell suspected of using the house to make bombs. when an explosion destroyed the house wednesday night, killing one person and seriously injuring another, it set in train a series of events culminating in the deaths in barcelona and one more in a second attack in the town of cambrils. a manhunt has been ongoing since a van plowed into pedestrians thursday afternoon on las ramblas in the heart of barcelona, killing 13 and injuring 120. early friday, a group of five attackers wearing fake suicide belts drove into pedestrians in cambrils, killing one and injuring six. police shot all five assailants dead but said late friday it was "increasingly unlikely" that the barcelona driver was among

authorities say the driver faces multiple charges. (lydia) comedian and civil rights activist dick gregory has died. his son posted the news on social media. the family says he passed away in washington, d-c last night. gregory became famous in the early 1960's as one of the first african-american comics to perform for white audiences but gregory was not content to simply tell jokes. he used his fame to advocate for civil rights in an era of strict segregation. his experiences with discrimination and injustice became the backbone of his comedy act. later in life he became an author and motivational speaker, promoting spirituality and healthy eating. gregory was in the middle of a comedy tour this month when he fell ill. gregory was 84 years old.

is the fifth time she's had the pleasure of experiencing an eclipse. for more than 20 years joyce blum has been chasing darkness that lasts just a few minutes. she saw her first total eclipse in 19-94 in the chilean andes mountains.(anny) since then she has traveled to south china, aruba, the black sea and now missouri to see the natural phenomenon. blum says the opportunities came because her brother served as project managing engineer for the moon landing back in 19-69. (lydia) tomorrow, blum -- along with six first- timers -- will be in saint joseph, missouri to see the total solar eclipse. blum even has a backup plan. she says, if the skies get too cloudy, they will all fly to kansas city .
