idaho, eclipse tsotchkes .and across the country, priceless memories "we don't have a lot of chances to see things like this. this is a once in a lifetime.""why i come from france to see only one minute -- the circle."hopkinsville, kentucky, had the longest totality ... a full three minutes of darkness.the eclipse moved west to east at different speeds ... 24=hundred mles an hour on the west coast, slowing to 14=hundred over kentucky and then speeding up again over south carolina."the whole sun was covered by the moon and then it went really dark and then uncovered. that was just really amazing"president trump and his family took in the spectacle from a white house balcony.i think it's actually a good moment for the country. we've had such bad news the last couple weeks. just to have a moment where we can talk about something celestial, something universal, something quasi scientific-spiritual -- i think that's a good thing. it's a nice thing to share for a minute. coast to coast, crowds came together.very emotional. got very choked up. was it worth the trip?was it worth the almost eight hour drive? i'd do it again tomorrow.

(vicki) the country's next solar eclipse is in 2024. it will be visible from texas to the northeast. (grant) people living and working in san francisco's potrero hill were amoung some of the lucky ones where the partially eclipsed sun broke thru the fog. here you can see some eclipse chasers... at starr king open space this morning. some used special glasses to see the sight, others use a colander to see crescent shaped shadows. it's very coolit's super unusualit doesn't happen every day, it'll be a few years before the next one so we feel luckyit's fantastic it's awesome, you don't get to experience this in your lifetime very often so i guess we are lucky to be able to here in california(grant) those bay area residents who missed the spectacle today might get a chance in seven

years...20-24 is the next time an eclipse is expected over american skies. (vicki) hundreds of people decended upon the nasa ames research center... in mountain view to catch a unique glimpse of the eclipse. kron 4's lydia pantazes spoke was there and filed this report. when the eclipse passes through this area, researchers will bring people outside of the building in groups of 100. the groups will rotate to ensure everyone gets a memorable moment viewing the eclipse.online registration for this event was posted last week and within minutes, organizers say they were completely booked. (grant) a freeway in the east bay... came to a complete stop while the solar eclipse was happening. take a look at this photo posted by chp in contra costa county. drivers actually pulled over and got out of their cars to view the historic once in a lifetime event. chp wrote in the facebook post "we truly hope everybody enjoyed the solar eclipse tody... hopefully you were at home, on a mountain top or in a safe location and not one of these people behaving badly.

junio is accused of fatally shooting off-duty oakland firefighter - 30-year-old jake walter. the shooting happened last week in san jose- near 9th and taylor streets. a second firefighter was also hurt - but he is expected to be ok. the two were at a party - at the gordon biersch brewery. walter was a recent academy graduate... and was one of oakland newest firefighters the suspect - junio is now charged with one count of murder and two counts of attempted murder. he is expected to make his first court appearance tomorrow - kron four news will be there and will have updates tomorrow night at five. (vicki) catalan police say they have shot and killed the suspected van driver... in the barcelona terror attacks. police say 22-year-old younes abuyaaqoub plowed through pedestrians in barcelona last thursday, killing 13 people. he escaped the area on foot and has been the focus of a massive manhunt for days. authorities say he hijacked a car to escape, allegedly stabbing the driver to death. earlier police warned the public the moroccan national

the fire that started in yosemite national park last week has now forced the small town of wawona to evacuate. authorities say the fire has grown to nearly three thousand acres... and came within a half mile of the town. the air quality has also reached dangerous levels and is expected to get worse. the fire is only ten percent contained. wawona has a population of around two thousand people. no word yet when residents will be allowed to return. (grant) the completion date for removing the remaining foundations of the old eastern span of the bay bridge... has just been moved up... to this coming november. (vicki) a move caltrans engineers say will save the project $10-million dollars. caltrans says it will also reduce the chances of potential harmful impacts on the environment. kron4's haaziq madyun has the story caltrans engineers are accelerating the anticipated completion of removing the remaining 13 marine foundations of the east span of the old bay bridge

man onto a bus-- then attacked him and stole his cell phone. the suspects are facing a string of charges including suspicion of robbery and conspiracy. a few days later... the fourth teenager allegedly involved...19- year-old clay doss-- from antioch-- was arrested on suspicion of stolen property. police say doss was already in custody for an unreleated warrant. (vicki) in san jose-- the city is reducing potential housing for the homeless last year governor jerry brown signed a bill allowing the city to build tiny homes for those in need. according to the san jose mercury -- the city is adding restrictions... cutting down from 99 potential sites to only four. this comes after the city got some backlash from residents. the idea is to build these tiny home villages on public property -- they will need to be 150-feet away from schools and parks. the houses are expected to be about 70 square feet per unit. can't get enough of the eclipse. the sun was playing peekaboo between the clouds and fog and that threatened to spoil the party in some parts ofthe bay area. a los angeles jury has ordered johnson and johnson... to pay more than 400-million dollars to settle a claim that the talc in the company's iconic baby powder causes overian cancer. a california woman sued the company - allegedly that it failed to properly warn cosumers about the potential talcum powder cancer risks. a spokesperson for johnson and johnson... says that the company will appeal the jury's decision. in 2012, a jury in saint louis orded johnson and johnson to pay 110-million dollars to a woman who was diagnosed with overian cancer and had used the talcum powder. the company has lost several other cases.
