francisco police officers on foot and on motorcycle patrolled in and around dolores park. keeping an eye out for any problems. while the park sits in one of the city's most scenic spots and is a huge draw for parents, neighbors and tourists it is also an accepted fact that the park has it's problems.soti think anyone who frequents the park has seen violence here or maybe purse snatching. something like thatsoti came here one day just wearing red shoes and a group guys came up and asked me if i bang. i said,no, i don't do any of that stuff.following a series of violent incidents over the past few months, the police department has decided to continue it's increased patrols here indefinitely. most of the people i spoke to on tuesday were happy to hear it.sotit would make me feel a little safer, without a doubt. sotanything they can do to make it safer, sure.but not everyone thinks the patrols will work. brita bookser was in the park on august 3 when shots rang out near this pedestrian bridge on the west side of the park.soti heard gunshots and a lot of people were running down the hill. i

(tiffany) that was charles clifford reporting. dolores park not the only location in san francisco with increased patrols.. san francisco officers have also stepped up their presence at twin peaks. that's after a man was robbed and killed at the popular tourist spot. two arrests have been made in that case. (james) parents in dublin unhappy with school overcrowding showed up at a school board meeting last night demanding to be heard. they don't believe the

district is allocating enough money to buy land and build another high school -- a claim the board rejects. (james) dozens of parents and community members spoke out about overcrowding at the school district meeting. the board is putting a committee together to find a site for a new high school. but some parents believe if the district doesn't allocate more money they'll end up going with plan b -- building one larger high school at dublin high's current location. i think it's wrong with them to play this game with the public. that lowering the number will give them the argument that it is just not doable so lets not do it. we voted as a community to give them 280 million dollars to do the right thing and give them

that high school because our students need it.they are not allocating enough money to build a proper second high school or even to buy a proper piece of land they need to allocate enough money so that we get a quality high school and a quality piece of land. (james) the district says it will take the committee they've set up 3-6 months explore viable options to build a new school. (james) a babysitter and her boyfriend have been arrested... accused of sexually assaulting a four-year-old in sunnyvale. police say the suspects were babysitting the little girl when the crime happened. kron4's terisa estacio talked to investigators about the evidence in the case. (package) captain shawn ahearn, sunnyvale department of public safety. "a case like this is horrifying, especially horrifying when you look at the age of the victim as this 4 year old. (estacio) captain shawn ahearn with the sunnyvale department of public safety says in july - the victims mother came to them after beliving her daughter had been molested at her home several times by a friend, the child's babysitter and the woman's boyfriend. ahearn. coordinated an investigationg, and after a lengthy investigaini we arrested 2 suspedts now in custody. and these are the suspects, 39 year old blanca torres and 39 year odl hector garcia. authorities say they do not have criminal records. but during the investigation, detectives did find some incriminating evidence. ahearn. (tiffany) amid the nationwide movement to remove confederate monuments -- there are new calls to remove a controversial statue in san francisco that some say highlights the opression of native americans. it is the "pioneer monument" in civic center plaza... right by city hall... between the asian art museum and the main library. built in 18-94, part of it depicts early settlers over a native american. a new change-dot- org petition is gaining strength to move this section of the 800-ton statue... many say they feel disrespected by the dark chapter in history... that the statue

(james) in san jose, prosecutors say 27-year old oliver juinio gunned down two oakland firefighters in an unprovoked, surprise attack. handcuffed and shackled at the waist and feet, juinio was arraigned yesterday afternoon, charged with one count of murder and one count of attempted murder. police arrested juinio in connection with last thursday's shooting of two off duty oakland firefighters after a party in san jose's japantown neighborhood. jake walter was killed -- and another firefighter was wounded. a traumatic robbery. the incident was all caught on camera. reporter lonnie wong was in natomas and spoke to the clerk. "give everything up bro...who's here, who's here... the clerk at this tobbacco plus store on club centre drive in north natomas wanted to stay anonymous...still shaken at what happened on friday. he thought the worst when the doors were locked.in the end they loaded up with cash, cigarettes and other merchandise.the clerk said he suspected that he was being followed home from work, and brought his camera to work with him that day, turning it on moments before the robbers broke in.it recorded more detail than the store security cameras. jesus moreno works at willie's j's hamburgers next door, which was robbed a month and half ago.natomas is the city's newest neighborhood and had had complaints over the years about poor police and fire protection.while the center has private security patrolling... the clerk is conflicted even

(tiffany) this morning crews continue to remove the remians of ten navy sailors killed when their ship collided with a merchant ship near singapore. now the navy is removing the commander of the fleet from his command post. this was the 4th time that a navy ship has been involved in a collision this year. the u-s navy ordered a temporary pause in operations to allow commanders to ensure safe operations around the world. trying to find a waiter, who may have been be the last person to see her husband alive. heidi nunes-tucker of lafayette says that a photo posted on social media shortly after the attack shows the waiter trying to help her gravely injured husband. 42-year-old jared tucker later died from his injuries. now his wife and her family want to find and thank the waiter. she says anyone who stopped to help amid the chaos "is a testament to the helpfulness and love" that strangers can show for each other. nunes-tucker is in barcelona as her husband's body is being prepared for her to take home. (james) bart is moving ahead with expansion plans to the south bay.... we got a look at the progress being made on the milpitas station... expected to open next june... along with the berryessa station. this is all part of an extension that will ultimately take trains to san jose by 20-26. president trump's rally in phoenix, arizona. ( darya ) tiffany mcelroy is here with the details. ( tiffany ) police in riot gear had to break up the protests. the demonstration s started out peaceful but took a turn as police started to move in. officers with shields and gas masks used smoke... tear gas... rubber bullets and flash-bangs to disperse the crowd. this happened as the president's rally was wrapping up. police say the violence started after a protester threw a tear gas cannister at officers. some protesters say that they were throwing back the canisters that police shot at them. police also say that water bottles were thrown at officers. this all came as the president held a campaign style rally where he criticized the media and once again talked about building the wall along the u-s mexico border. the president even threatening a government shutdown if congress doesn't approve the money for the wall.

( darya ) parents in dublin are sounding off on the school district's overcrowding problem. hundreds of parents showed up to the school board meeting last night. they say there are too many students packed into classrooms. the district is set to open a new grade school soon but parents say that wont fix the problems at the high school. the school board says it is putting a community committee together to try and find a site to build a new high school. but parents say the district is not doing enough to get a second high school built. ( darya ) the school district says it will take about 3 to 6 months to look for locations to building a new high school. ( mark ) also happening

now... sheriff's deputies are investigating a homicide in byron. the contra costa county sheriff's office reported the homicide on twitter just after 9:30 last night. it happened on the 500 block of camino diablo. police say they plan to release more information later this ( mark ) happening now... police at u-c berkeley are investigating a rape in one of the dorms. it happened yesterday morning. officers say the victim and the attacker were both students and they did know each other, ( mark ) san francisco police say they are increasing patrols at dolores comes after a triple shooting earlier this month. this is video as officers patrolling in and around dolores park yesterday. on august 3rd three people were shot in the park in the middle of the afternoon. police say the shooting was gang related. kron four spoke with a woman who was at the park the day of the shooting. she says seeing more officers does not make her feel more safe.

( mark ) this morning crews continue to remove the remians of ten navy sailors killed when their ship collided with a merchant ship near singapore. now the navy is removing the commander of the fleet from his command post. this was the 4th time that a navy ship has been involved in a collision this year. the u-s navy ordered a temporary pause in operations to allow commanders to ensure safe operations around the world. ( mark @ landing) the wife of a bay area man killed in last week's barcelona terror attack says she's trying to find a waiter... who may have been be the last person to see her husband alive. heidi nunes-tucker of lafayette says that a photo posted on social media shortly after the attack shows the waiter trying to help her husband. 42-year-old jared tucker died from his injuries. now his wife and her family want to find and thank the waiter. she says anyone who stopped to help amid the chaos "is a testament to the helpfulness and love" that strangers can show for each other. nunes- tucker is in barcelona as her husband's body is being prepared to come home. being made on the milpitas station. it is expected to open in june of next year along with the berryessa station. this is all part of an extension that will ultimately take trains to san jose. that is the second part of the project which is not expected to be finished until 2026. ( darya ) bart is also eyeing an east bay expansion. there is a plan to take trains all the way out to livermore. the first public hearing on the environmental impact report was held last night. another hearing is set for next tuesday. ( tiffany ) the sheriff's department was responding to a domestic violence incident in lake port last night. shortly after the scene was cleared a sheriff's patrol car hit a tree on hartley road near 20th street. the deputy was taken to the hospital where he died. he has been identified as 50- year-old rob rumfelt. he had been in law enforcement since 1997. police say he likely had a medical emergency that led to the crash. the lake county district attorney's office is investigating. back to you. bay area... people have returned home after a fire burned dangerously close to homes in dublin. the fire broke out yesterday afternoon and quickly grew to 200 acres before firefighters were able to get it under control. firefighters had to evacuate people who lived in the wallis ranch area. those evacuations have been lifted. ( mark ) in the north bay... sonoma county sheriff's detectives have seized drugs, guns and cash while serving search warrants at two homes in santa rosa. this contraband was taken from a home on brooks avenue. it was part of a drug sales investigation by the sheriff's office. officers found more than half a pound of methamphetamine and cocaine along with guns and cash. two men were arrested in connection with the drug seizure. the federal government is taking new steps to help protect lake tahoe. lawmakers have approved 415 million dollars to help keep the lake blue. the new money will go towards thinning forests in the tahoe basin to prevent forest fires and to prevent invasive species from getting into the lake... keeping it safe for fish and swimmers. more than 2 billion dollars have already been spent over the last 20 years keeping the lake safe

( darya @ landing ) a west virginia mother and her nine-month old daughter are recovering this morning after a tree fall on top of the woman's car. you can see how badly the branches smashed the woman's car, even breaking the windshield. the woman was drving down the road yesterday afternoon when the tree started to fall... she slammed on her brakes and swerved out of the way, but was unable to avoid the tree. neither the mom or the daughter were injured. ( mark ) one mother in new york is warning other parents about the dangers of meningitis b after her daughter passed away. patti wukovits thought her daughter kimberly had the flu. the next day kimberly felt like her ankles were bleeding and had three tiny purple dots on one of her ankles. kimberly had been vaccinated but it wasn't for the meningitis she was diagnosed with. she had meningitis b, but the vaccination wasn't available in the u-s at the time. her mother now says it is important to ask for that specific vaccine especially if you are between 16 to 23 years old. ( mark ) high doses of vitamin b are now linked to lung cancer in men. doctors say thirty to forty percent of men who took vitamin b6 and b12 supplements had an increased risk of lung cancer. none of the vitamin b came from multivitamins or their diets. researchers found men who were already smoking seemed to be taking more vitamin b than they needed to.
