homicide that happened last august. today oakland police homicide detectives called on the community...to help find the killers of 22- year-old terrence mc-crary and 20-year-old craig fletcher- cooks. both men were shot to death last year at a party on 15th street in downtown oakland. investigators say the shooting started after fletcher-cooks tried to protect his girlfriend from 4-men who started harrassing her. (grant) a third victim was

critically injured during in the shooting... but survived. oakland police and crime stoppers are offering a $25-thousand-dollars reward for information leading to an arrest. (vicki) a man wanted on an immigration hold - was set free by police... and days later allegedly murdered his girlfriend. now, the woman's family is demanding answers as they try and deal with planning a funeral. kron four's terisa estacio is live in sonoma county for us tonight with more on how this all happened. terisa? suspect, nery israel estrada is in custody here at the sonoma county jail facing a murder charge, as well as domestic violence. the victims family in this case is struggling to cope, especially because they say had law enforcement done their job, they believe victim veronica ramierez would still be alive. (estacio reporting) 2 08 i want justice for my family - and for my daughters. gerardo lopez says his ex-wife

veronica ramierez was a devoted parent and now his two teenage daughters you see here in this picture are without their loving mother. and he adds, it all could have been prevented. this is suspect nery isreal estrada. he was arrested back on august 2 on domestic abuse charges for allegedly striking ramierez. in custody, his fingerprints flagged him as an undocumented person who had been deported before to guatalama in 2008. federal immigration officials contacted sonoma officials and requested they be notified if he posted bail. this is sonoma county sheriffs spokesperson sgt. spencer crumb. sgt. spencer crumb, sonoma county sheriff's dept. "we notified the victim, then ice and then when his bail was verified he was released. again, that was on august 2, then this past friday, 2 weeks later, estrada went to the santa rosa police department and turned himself in reportedly confessing that in a heated argument with ramierez he had killed her. they found her body in her apartment. lopez. if they had waited a few more hours, my exwife would be still alive, but they did not do their job.

in a statement to kron four news - immigration officials say they were not given enough notice to collect estrada and that is why they did not pick him up. 6:24 sonoma co. there is no legal justification to hold someone after they have made bail. estrada does not have bail - so he is not getting out this time around. when i spoke with the family today, they shared some more personal stories about veronica ramierez - i will have more on that coming up at 6pm and they shared what they hope will happen next to suspect estrada. in sonoma county te (vicki) a bart operator is

two huge confederate statues in charlottesville, virginia are now covered with black tarps. city leaders decided to shroud the monuments of robert e. lee and stonewall jackson. they say the move is meant to signal a city in mourning...after the death of heather heyer... the 32-year-old was killed august 12-th when a car plowed into a crowd of demonstrators who gathered to oppose a rally of white supremacists... and other right-wing organizations. city council members say that despite calls for the statues to be removed, the courts won't currently allow it... because of an injunction. the official says the tarps will remain on the statues until further notice. (vicki) a bart train operator is recovering from head injuries... after she was attacked by a passenger at the dublin-pleasanton station. (grant) and, as kron four's philippe djegal reports... that passenger has now been banned from bart. the attack happened just after 11 o'clock tuesday night. bart says as a train operator here at the dublin- pleasanton station was walking up and down an out-of-service train, conducting a sweep... she noticed 30-year-old myron mixon, of oakland sleeping in a seat. when the operator tried to wake mixon up... bart says he punched the operator... a

woman... who fell and hit her head.jim allison/bart- "the safety of our riders, the general public and our employees, is our top priority -- everything else is second." bart police officers were able to track mixon down. he was placed under arrest and issued a prohibition order, says bart spokesperson jim allsion.jim allison/bart- "since about four years ago, we've been using prohibition orders in certain cases to ban people from 30 days to a year, depending upon the offense. uh, so that they don't return to bart and they don't, uh, create problems again and again." an assault on a bart employee is also punishable by up to three years in state prison and or a 10-thousand dollar fine. the train operator was taken to a hospital for treatment. as for mixon... he's been booked on battery charges at the santa rita jail. his bail is set at 25-thousand dollars. and, he is due in court thursday. in pleasanton, philippe djegal, kron four news. (grant) a california father who admitted to killing hs five-year-old son amid a

bitter custody battle...has been sentenced to 25 years to life in prison. aramazd andressian senior did not speak during the sentecing hearing today in los angeles county. the 35-year-old pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in the april death of his son, aramazd andressian jr. police say the dad killed his boy... to get back at his wife. the boy's remains were found in santa barbara county....two months after his disappearance. andressian's attorney says his client pleaded guilty...to avoid the death penalty. authorities...haven't said how the boy died. (grant) nine-year-old daniel morozov (more-zov)-- who was allegedly abducted by his father monday night-- has been found safe. police say daniel was taken by his father... konstantin. an amber alert was issued that same night shortly after the boy's mother was found shot to death in santa maria. authorities found the father and son in san fernando valley last night. police say during the confrontation konstantin was shot by police.

the father was taken to the hospital where he later died. the boy is now with the department of children and family services. no police were injured. (vicki) parents in dublin are sounding off on the school district's overcrowding problem. hundreds of parents showed up to the school board meeting last night. they say there are too many students packed into classrooms. the district is set to open a new grade school soon but parents say that wont fix the problems at the high school. the school board says it is putting a community committee together to try and find a site to build a new high school. but parents say the district is not doing enough to get a second high school built. "we voted as a community to give them 280 million dollars to do the right thing and give them that high school because our students need it.they are not allocating enough money to build a proper second high school or even to buy a proper piece of land."(vicki) the school district says it will take about 3 to 6 months to look for locations to building a new high school. (vicki) happening now... people all over the bay area

police in new jersey are looking for the man who used his tinder date to score some stolen goods... including a family dog. authorities say an 18-year-old woman was house-and-dog sitting when she invited a man she met on tinder over to the house. the woman said the man showed up with a friend. when the two men left... she noticed a laptop, an amazon package and the family's maltese were all missing. the dog was found a few days later running on a street about 10 miles away. police say they have identified the two men...but have not arrested them. the family is just happy to have the dog back. (vicki) the fda is now working on creating a new category of hearing aids that can be sold over the counter. our washington correspondent jessica smith has the story. nats nearly 50 million americans suffer from hearing loss, but the hearing loss association of america says many people don't use hearing aids, largely because they can't afford them, barbara kelley, hlaa executive director: "there's an estimated 80% of people who could benefit from hearing aids, don't get them.' that's why massachusetts senator elizabeth warren led the effort to pass legislation that would make certain types of hearing aids available over- the-counter. sen. elizabeth warren (d-ma): you ought to be able to buy a hearing aid that covers people with mild to moderate hearing loss, test them out -- see how you like them, and take them home and get some help. iowa republican, senator chuck grassley worked with warren on the legislation, and said in a statement: "consumers are interested in new hearing aid products to improve their quality of life at an affordable price. the more products available, the more
