over twenty inches of rain have fallen in texas since harvey made landfall late friday, and there are no signs of it letting up any time soon. parts of the state could receive up to 50 inches of rain by mid week... and eighteen counties have been declared federal disasters. thousands have been driven from their homes, and many more are trapped, waiting for help.gov. greg abbott/ -r- texas: "we are still involved in the search and rescue process. the goal is still protecting and preserving life and rescuing every person that we can find."governor abbott has deployed every member of the texas national guard to help with search and rescues.

men and women from the 129th rescue wing were put on standby early this morning. by this afternoon, they were given official deployment orders and loaded up and boarded three c-130 combat planes. they're landing in fort hood, texas, where they will immediately begin to help people stranded by the flooding. (capt. roderick bursamina, 129th rescue wing)our unit is tasked to support the search and rescue operation patient for hurricane harvey's in texas. will be using our hh 60 g pave hawk helicopters to survey the area and if needed provide hoistrescue capabilities with the guardian angel rescue men to come down and pick folks from roof tops or other isolated areas(grant) it's unknown how long those flying out today will be away from their families.they could be deployed anywhere from a week, to four months, depending on the need.

(vicki) bay area residents are responding quickly to the needs of those impacted by hurricane harvey. (grant) as kron fours terisa estacio reports, the red cross is seeing a high volume of calls from all over the bay area of those wanting to pitch in and help. the images are shocking and emotionally wrenching - the latest figures - 30 thousand people stranded needing shelter all because of hurricane harvey striking houston and the gulf coast. trevor riggen/american red cross northern california coastal region. the bay area is very generous and they are responding. american red cross regional chief executive officer trevor riggen says his bay area team is in constant contact with those on the ground.riggen. we are collecting financial donations. they allow us to buy supplies for those in need. riggen says they appreciate bay area residents who want to drop off items - but he says in emergency situations like a hurricane, the red cross has learned they can best help by offering necessary supplies purchased with donations. for example:

riggen. bleach is something we need a lot a gloves, so we can buy that in block with donations. diapers, food, clothes, toothpaste, formula, warm blankets - again, riggen says all items they those impacted need and they are in the process of getting those items to houston residents. terisa estacio, and it is not just donations, but volunteers being sent. riggen says volunteers are getting speciality training now to be deployed. riggen. they will be nurses, first aid, counselors. riggen says it is challenging now, because so many roads are still closed and the airports hampered by the conditions, but he says he is grateful to see how the bay area is rising up again to help neighbors in need. in sf, terisa estacio kron four news.

species that are clogging creeks and streamsacross the valley but none more invasive than this, right here. it's called arundo donax orgiant reed. the bamboo-like stuff can grow to be 30 feet high and it provides shelter for homeless camps. so those camps have to go before the crews can come in here and clear out thebamboo. now abandoned, this is one of several camps where the homeless have actually been living inside huge clumps of the bamboo like reeds that proliferate along coyote creek. now those camps are beingswept as the city of san jose and the santa clara valley water district have undertaken an ambitous effort to do away with the stuff. jennifer codianne/santa cara valley water dist."....it's an invasive species that grows well in disturbed soils and thrives near water. it's important to remove it so we can restore the natural eco system that should function there...."there's some irony

group of mosquitoes in the area are carrying the virus. the fogging will begin around eight and end at eleven-thirty. the area that will be treated will be between balfour road and armstrong way. residents can limit their risk of getting bit by these mosquitoes... by dumping or draining water... staying away from swimming pools... using mosquito repellents... and reporting dead birds. vector control officials are also suggesting people avoid being outdoors when mosquitoes are present. the washington post is reporting that president trump asked attorney general jeff sessions to consider dropping the federal case against arizona sheriff joe arpaio...but was rejected. according to the report, sessions told the president it would be inappropriate for him to interfere. president trump told session he would pardon arpaio if he was eventually convicted. arpaio was found guilty in july of criminal contempt... for disregarding a court order in a racial profiling case. he was pardoned by the president on friday. california is looking to up the ante to entice more drivers to switch to electric or hybrid vehicles. a proposal is making its way through the legislature to set aside as much as 3-billion dollars for rebates. it would also increase them from 25-hundred dollars to 10- thousand dollars or even more. if that happened, a chevrolet bolt would cost the same as a gas-powered honda civic. there are 26- million vehicles registered in california... only 315- thousand of them are electric or hybrids. the bill needs the legislature's approval and then the governor's signature.
