course. this was the scene just before noon as a dc 10 air tanker made short work of a hot spot that was burning along a steep slope as firefighters on the ground were formulating their plan of attack.unit chief derek witmer/calfire santa clara unit"....we're looking at some steep, rough, rocky terrain which is making control efforts difficult so we're coming up with a plan to fight it along the ridge tops with dozer and hose lines to keep the fire contained...." gilroy resident cesar vega snapped these dramatic photos after dark last night. one firefighter was injured and

rushed to the hospital after he stumbled in the dark and fell40 feet down a steep ridge as residents made ready to flee.nepar penn/eagle ridge resident"....it was crazy, i was so panicked, i started to pack up all my stuff, there were firefighters and police everywherein the streets...." the fire got a head start this morning as the air attack was grounded by smoke and haze but once cleared for takeoff, about mid morning, a helicopter and fixed wing aircraft were making steady progress, the chopper taking advantage of nearby water hazards at eagle ridge golf course. firefighters are optimistic but the changing weather pattern and lack of resourcesare presenting a challenge. unit chief derek witmer/calfire"....we are in transition now, we in red flag until about 9 this morning but now were getting some breezes in from the south and both high and low pressures and we might get some downbursts and we are concerned about the possibility of lighting and sub tropical stuff coming in from the south...."

(rob live) as for the cause. officially it's still under investigation. but several residents tell methe police were out here right after the fire broke out and they were asking a lot of questions about reports some kids were shooting off illegal fireworks in the area. live in gilroy rob fladeboe kron 4 news (catherine) fire officials in los angeles say the la tuna fire -- which began friday -- is no longer considered an active blaze. however that could change -- depending on the speed and direction of the winds. governor jerry brown declared a state of emergency for los angeles county yesterday...but rain and cooler weather have since been helping out fire crews. more than 7-thousand acres have burned - making this one of the biggest fires los angeles has ever seen. four people have been injured

- including minor burns and severe dehydration. homes have also been destroyed. (sot) ralph terrazas / lafd fire chief: "we've lost four houses, which i think is a testament to the outstanding work done by the firefighters from this region, this city, this county, and from throughout the state" since the winds could kick up again -- fire officials were not immediately reducing the number of crews on the scene. it's not clear yet how the fire began... (vicki) some good news to report - the evacuation orders for all areas surrounding the ponderosa fire in butte county... have been lifted. the fire has burned more than four thousand acres - since it broke out last week. crews say the flames are 68-percent contained. the fire has destroyed 54 structures - including 32 homes. more than 15 hundred firefighting personnel are currently working to put the wildfire out. (vicki) and - in trinity county.... the helena fire as now grown to nearly 9-thousand acres. it is now 14-

percent contained this evening... it started wednesday near the town of helena, west of weaverville along highway 299. 72 homes have been destroyed and dozens more are still threatened. the cause of the fire is under investigation. (catherine) the crews on the scene of these wildfires have been getting a little bit of a break from the heat...and are grateful for some cooler temperatures moving in.. (vicki) happening tomorrow... president donald trump is expected to end protections for young immigrants brought into the country illegally. but that will come after a six- month delay. he's expected to end the program known as "deferred action for childhood arrivals" or daca. (vicki) and - the decision could affect hundreds of thousands of people enrolled in the program...and many of them have questions about what might happen next.(catherine) kron four's spencer blake got some answers from an immigration attorney. he joins us live from berkeley - where a protest is already scheduled for tomorrow. spencer, how fast does the attorney think that things will happen? attorney jesse lloyd actually thinks it would take a long time for someone covered by daca to be removed from the country.but of course, that

doesn't take the worry away from his clients. tuesday we will know whether president trump plans to end deferred action for childhood arrivals, or daca, altogether, or whether he'll punt on it and give congress time to come up with a legislative solution. "i don't think it's going to be a big surprise for anyone. they've all been concerned about it. a lot of them are looking for other benefits." immigration attorney jesse lloyd has helped hundreds of clients with daca benefits.as they wait for the official announcement from the white house, they worry they'll lose their jobs at best, or be deported at worst."it's important to remember that unless you actually have a deportation order against you, you do have a right to fight your case in deportation proceedings if those start." lloyd points out tuesday's decision could place daca recipients into deportation áproceedings immediately, but the legal fight against those proceedings could take multiple years.so it's unlikeley most dreamers would have to leave right away.

internal reports from the white house have said the president will delay the end of daca for six months, but it's too early to tell exactly what that would mean."is that gonna be after six months everybody's protection expires or terminates? or is it there's no extensions after six months? we don't really know at this point."in the meantime, some current dreamers may be able to apply for asylumor to receive family benefits.losing work authorization could be one of the most immediate realities they'd face.whatever happens tuesday"this is the next step, but it's not the end." if trump does end daca tomorrow, there is a protest planned for right here on u-c berkeley's campus, at five o'clock.live in berkeley, spencer blake, kron four news. oakland was the scene of two major labor day rallies today...including a march to city hall. (catherine) the san francisco labor council joined forces with the alameda labor council, community activists and union members... they're all demanding an increase in the minimum wage

and the right to form a union...(vicki) kron4's haaziq madyun was with the marchers earlier today and has this report. it is labor day in oakland. that means it is time for hundreds of workers participating in a nationwide labor day strike to do some marching"what do we want? union! when do we want it? now!"the day got started with a rally for minimum wage workers at this mcdonalds restaurant on jackson street. these marchers say it is time for fast food workers to earn $15 dollars an hour and have the right to unionize increasing the minimum wage is just one of the reasons justin king is marching

in contra costa county police arrest a man...they say exposed himself to children. it happened around eight last night in concord . a resident called authorities to report that his children said a man exposed himself to them. that resident sent his kids safely back in their home...then followed the suspect and called 9-1-1. once at the scene officers arrested the suspect...who's name has not yet been released tonight. (catherine) crews are hustling to finish up major work in big sur. they're on a tight schedule to get the pfeiffer canyon bridge project wrapped up... caltrans released this time-lapse video. now that crews have reached the south side.. the next step is to lower the bridge into place. caltrans hopes to have the 24- million dollar project done by

early next month. (catherine) once the bridge is lowered into place... crews still have a lot of work to do.. they'll add rebar and pour more than 500 cubic yards of concrete. (vicki) kron four's will tran reports from ocean beach where the rip currents... swept a man out to sea this weekend. there are signs like this one all over san francisco's ocean beach warning people about the dangers of rip currents.but most people don't come to the beach to read signs... they

been trying to stay cool say they were suddenly drenched by heavy rain... and nearly blown away by wind speeds of 80 miles an hour. (sot) "this wind storm with hail just threw me by the beach, all the way dragged me by the boats to the fence where i had to hold on to the fence, and i barely could hold on, because it was pushing me. there were things flying, kayaks, boats" one person was injured - possibly by a kayak that blew through the air. the storm is believed to be a micro-burst, which is a sudden localized and powerful air current. they can behave in similar ways to a tornado. (catherine) most bart trains are back up to speed...after heat-related delays this weekend.. the heat wave mean some trains were were running 10 to 20 minutes late over the weekend...and transit officials say that's because extreme heat can actually cause the rails to move. there are still some problems.... bart trains are not running between the 19th street and fruitvale stations or between the west oakland and fruitvale stations today. the lake merritt station is also closed. the royal family will soon be a little larger. britain's duchess of cambridge and her husband, prince william, announced today that they are expecting their third child. the royal couple already have four-year-old prince george and two-year-old princess charlotte. as with her first two pregnancies, the former kate middleton is suffering from extreme morning sickness.

detained for refusing to draw blood samples from an unconscious patient is now telling her side of the story. "okay. no. we're done. we're done. you're under arrest. we're done."nats: screaming alex wubbels was following hospital policy and constitutional law when she denied the sample to officers... as the patient - who was not a suspect - had not given consent. she says officer jeff payne... the officer who arrested her... was agressive from the beginning. he even stormed off when she initially told him she would not take the sample. wubbles is now speaking out about the violent arrest saying she was doing her job... and thinks any nurse would the same. (alex wubbels / nurse arrested in dispute with police): "i can't speak for officer payne. but what i can say is that i stood my ground. i stood for what was right, which was to protect the patient. as a nurse - any nurse i think would have done exactly what i did." the department says

detective jeff payne and another officer are on full administrative leave pending a criminal investigation. wubbels says she's disappointed by the university of utah police and the department of public safety, which provide security for the hospital. officers from both departments were present for the arrest and she says they did nothing to stop it. (catherine) the mother of a man who died after running into a huge fire at the burning manfestival says he was attending the event in nevada for the first time... authorities say that aaron mitchell was not under the influence of alcohol whenit happened saturday.... but toxicology tests are underway to check for other drugs. mitchell was from oklahoma and had been living in switzerland with his wife. shocking photos are being released....showing the 41-year-old running right into the flamesof a giant wooden effigy being burned... he'd managed to break through a human chain of security officers...

"their families fled to america from war-torn countries and dire economic straits because they saw this country as a place of refuge and hope. to punish them for seeking a better life is unconscionably cruel." a story out of santa cruz county ... which sounds more like something out of the old west. some sheriff's deputies found two horses stolen from a home over the weekend. the deputies brought the animals back to

the owner... this is the picture of the happy reunion. as for the people accused of stealing the horses... deputies tracked them down and arrested them. that's when they found the two animals... hidden in a makeshift corral. (vicki) six people were injured -- three seriously -- when a driver crashed his s-u-v into a laundromat in staten island, new york. authorities believe an elderly driver accidentally gunned his vehicle in reverse while trying to park. surveillance cameras caught it all...watch as the 74-year-old driver of this white s-u-v slowly backs out of a parking spot. but then while in reverse he says he didn't realize it.... but he stepped on the gas, crashing right through an enormous front glass window, hitting people and tables. witnesses say the incident...happened in the blink of an eye.(sot) "as soon as i turned my shoulder, the car was already coming through the glass, and it was hitting all the tables and metal, it was hitting everyone. so that's... not only just the car but the tables and the carts were just ramming into everyone." the incident is under

tonight point to president trump ending a program granting certain rights to undocumented immigrants brought to the country as children.( pam ) "daca" allows the immigrants to live and work without fear of deportation. kron 4's washington correspondent drew petrimoulx reports... on the possible economic impact of ending the program. the white house says president trump will announce his decision tuesday on an issue he's called very difficult.
