country as children -- the so-called "dreamers" -- may soon be at risk of deportation. stacey cohan has reaction from washington d.c. jeff sessions/attorney general: "the program known as daca that was effectuated under the obama administration is being rescinded." and with that... attorney general jeff sessions announces the trump administration is putting an end to the 'deferred actions for childhood arrivals' program that is currently protecting about 800,000 so-called dreamers from deportation. the program provided legal status for undocumented immigrants who entered the u.s. as children. pres. trump: "i have a great heart for these folks we're talking about. a great love for them and people think in terms of children but they're really young adults." former president barack obama took to facebook to lambast trump for repealing daca...,calling the move "cruel:...writing in part, "to target these young people is wrong -- because they have done nothing wrong."president trump is putting the onus on

congress to come up with a plan over the next six months. pres. trump: "i have a love for these people and hopefully now congress will be able to help them and do it properly. and i can tell you, speaking to members of congress, they want to be able to do something and do it right members from both parties are responding.sen. lindsey graham/-r- south carolina: "these children have no place to go other than america and here's the good news for america, you should want them to stay."sen. dick durbin/-d- illinois: "we need to pass in this month of september a dream act. a permanent law in this country."the announcement was met with protests from across the country - including outside of trump tower in new york.in washington, i'm stacey cohan. (tiffany) the mayor was just one of hundreds of daca supporters at a rally outside martin luther king drive library -- to pledge their support. (tiffany) san francisco mayor ed lee also spoke out yesterday... accusing the trump adminstration of turning its back on young undocumented immigrants. < they saw america as the country we all believe it to be a beacon of hope a place of refuge so to punish them for seeking a better life seems unconscionably cruel> (tiffany) the decision was also denounced outside san

francsico city hall... where supporters of daca held an emergency news conference. kron4's maureen kelly was there.. a little bit afraid but are still going to fight back gerarddo gomez describes how he and many other daca recipenants are feelingbecaus e now thier protection against deportation goes away once their work permit expires. he says was brought to this country from mexico when he was 3 year oldthey think that we each a lot of us chose to come here illegally cannot follow a legal process but a lot of us were infants a lot of us were teenagers in the dark we couldn't make the option for selves to punish us for a decision we had no input it to me i think it's unfair to me and inhumane(nats from podium)diana flores was also brought here from mexico as a toddler .she is also a daca recipeint who's protection against deporation is now at risk. she says the dismantling of the 2012 program will be widely felt.a lot of daca recipients are the sole providers for their safe

families a lot of daca recipients were only eligible to pursue their education because of that protection several members of the board of supervisors spoke out about the move by the trump administration .saying the sanctuary city would continue to support the esimated 44- thousand undocumented residents living here.and we're gonna create law after law to fill the vacuum to fill the gap that washington dc is leaving with us today we're gonna do it here locally because we protect each other we love each other and we have each other's backthis afternoon supervisor jane kim introduced a resolution condeming the rescission of daca at today's supervisor's meeting, which is expected to be voted on next week.maureen kelly kron4 news (james) breaking news from overnight... a body found along highway 101 and police think it may have been a hit- and-run. this happened at the lucas valley off ramp in

marin. the body of a man found around 8:30 last night. police say the man's injuries were consistent with being hit by a car but there were no cars stopped in the area. police are now looking for anybody who may have witnessed the accident. so far they have not released any details about the victim. (james) happening today... there will be more security at one north bay middle school after a student was arrested for making a threat against the school. this happened at sinaloa middle school in novato. police have not released the details of the threat. a 12-year-old boy was arrested. police searched his home and locker and found several fake guns. he is charged with making criminal threats and has been suspended. police say there is no further danger to the school this morning. (tiffany) russian president vladimir putin is calling for talks with north korea... saying sanctions are not a solution. putin made the remarks today after meeting with south korean president moon jae-in in russia. he described the sanctions as "useless and

ineffective." he says a russian-chinese "road map" would help resolve the nuclear crisis. it's a proposal the u.s. ambassador to the u.n. nikki haley has dismissed -- saying the u.s. is "done talking about north korea." (tiffany) and happening today... congress could begin discussing a relief package for the victims of hurricane harvey in texas. houston and surrounding communities, people are busy trying to clean up after the storm inundated much of the southeastern part of the state. 60 people have died as a result of hurricane harvey and several others are still missing this morning. (tiffany) and investigators have now released a surveillance video hoping someone out there might

recognize the suspects. kron4's haaziq madyun gives us a closer look. three men run into this target store, one armed with a handgun, another holding a long rifleit happened saturday september 2nd just after midnight here at this target store on 40th street in emeryville. this is target's surveillance video. emeryville police captain oliver collins says it was closing time when the take-over robbery began emeryville police investigators say the robbery occurring as the store was closing was not coincidental

police say there were about 10-employees and ten-customers in the store. the take-over robbery lasted only one minute but for the people in target...one really scary minute says captain collins

filed a lawsuit challenging the sale and questioning whether homeowners were properly notified. a hearing on the lawsuit is scheduled for november. (james) the city of alameda has turned down thousands of dollars in federal grant money because it believes doing so would violate its sanctuary city status. kron 4's charles clifford spoke with alameda's city manager who says ... this was an easy decision to make. well, for the last decade the city of alameda has received between 10,000 and 30,000 dollars per year in grant money from the justice department that's used to buy equipment and supplies for the police department. this year, the city was eligible for about 11,000 dollars but when the application for the funds arrived there was a new requirement included. sotthat basically says that i as city manager will give out information on immigrant status.jill keimach is alameda's city manager. she says the addition of the new requirement was a deal breaker sotwe decided to not accept the grant funds and stand on principle to protect our citizens.earlier this year,

alameda's city council voted to become a sanctuary city and limit cooperation with the federal government's enforcement of immigration law. keimach says that revealing someone's immigration status would violate that policy. she also says that additional requirement wasn't really a surprise.sotwe were actually expecting it because there's been a lot of question about our justice department funds being at risk if we signed a sanctuary city ordinance so i was looking for it.but refusing the federal funds is a mostly symbolic gesture. the city has an annual budget of 249 million dollars and the grant money is a barely a drop in the bucket.sot11,000 is not a significant amount and won't make a difference. it's more the principal of protecting our citizens.finally, keimach says alameda is hoping to team up with other sanctuary cities to challenge the justice department's new requirements for receiving federal funds. in alameda, charles clifford kron 4 news. district attorney says, the treatment of inmates by four sheriff's deputies is not only cruel, but shows a disregard for inmates' humanity. the deputies now face felony assault charges .... and had their first court appearance yesterday. kron 4's dan kerman was there. alameda county's district attorney says a pattern of abuse and misconduct by 4 deputies at the santa rita jail is sadistic, cruel and shows a disregard for humanity of the inmates.those 4 deputies made their first court appearance tuesday at the dublin courthouse deputies justin linn and erik mcdermott face multiple felony assault charges. court documents suggest an inmate at the santa rita jail alerted staff to the alleged abuse in november of 2016.. suggesting deputies linn and mcdermott facilitated and allowed inmates to throw feces and urine onto other inmates. there is also an allegation that mcdermott strangled an inmate until he lost

consciousness. the two are also charged with conspiring to silence a witness to the assaults.deputies sarah krause and stephen sarcos each face a single count of felony assault for allegedly using an inmate to throw feces onto another inmate. court documents say during an interview with investigators krause and sarcos "admitted they had facilitated the assault by opening (a ) cell door."all 4 are now out on bail, but linn and mcdermott had their bail increased to more than over 300-thousand dollars and will have to come up with the money by monday.standup dan kerman/dublin 118-126none of the deputies entered a plea, all due back in court on september 11. at the santa rita jail, dan kerman kron 4 news. devastation of harvey fresh on their minds, residents in south florida are scrambling for supplies and preparing for a potential disaster.don williams/ resident: "people are scared right now. after they've seen what happened in texas. they're afraid something bad is going to happen, so...better be prepared than not."long lines at gas stations, banks... runs on bottled water and building materials...all before irma's exact path, is certain.on tuesday, irma strengthened to a category five hurricane, making it one of the strongest storms recorded in the atlantic. as of tuesday, irma was on track to hit the virgin islands and puerto rico in the next few days. after that, the storm could slam into south florida. mayor carlos gimenez/ miami-dade county, fl: "unlike other hurricanes where we do a wait and see it take a wait and see and see what the hurricane is is going to do. this hurricane is far too powerful poses far too great a threat for us to delay actions any longer."governor rick scott declared a state of emergency for all of florida, and tourist heavy monroe county has issued an evacuation order for all visitors in the keys. authorities are hoping floridians will heed their warningsgov. rick scott/ -r-

(james) meanwhile in the bay area -- volunteers from the local chapter of the american red cross are on their way to florida.. kron 4's justine waldman was there .. as they loaded up and headed out to help. nats trucks pulling inbefore hitting the road to florida, this american red cross emergency response vehicle gets loaded with supplies at the alameda warehouse.not waiting for the disaster to strike 16 bay area red cross volunteers are now on their way. sot we want to be ready we want to have all our resources available so that we can response quicklyon board, pallets of bottled water.boxes of snacks.and comfort kits - filled with simple necessities like toothbrushes. dozens of red cross trucks from the bay area.. are already helping victims of hurricane harvey.a few stayed home ready to deploy towards the california wildfires.but as irma

intensifies.. 8 trucks, 2 from santa cruz and 6 from oakland, are now on their way to orlando.once there.. and irma does her damagethe red cross will assign the volunteers to the hardest hit areas.sot the clients are stressed because they have lost so much so that is very hard to seethe group of volunteers smiles for a photo before starting the long 40 hour drive to the sunshine state. some have experience in disaster reliefbut don powell from concordsot been in red cross for 30 years so i thought it was time natsand off the trucks go straight to the disaster zone, for a two week assignment ready to help.in alameda justine waldman kron 4 news.

intersections in san francisco are causing confusion for drivers.(tiffany) kron4's stanley roberts explains. if you look up the word confusion in the dictionary you might see an image of the octavia blvd. corridor in san francisco ..this is a street with stop signs and red lights basically side by side .. let's see how that's working out they don't understand that they have to stop when it green still, they still go through as if it's was a normal intersection. so watch the cars making the right off octavia to page .. so the drivers on local access lane have a stop sign to avoid crashes from the main road however, many drivers look at the green light and ignore the stop sign .. this happens a lot at octavia and page street nats: ambiance a block away on octavia and haight, it has different problems . see the words keep clear painted in the street . it might as well say stop here and clog up traffic during rush hour everyone blocks this intersection and every morning first thing in the morning

it's a honking fest . this guy works at boba guys right smack on the corner it wasn't even rush hour and drivers were clogging up the intersection here's why, some impatient drivers use the non-turn lane to make a turn just like this driver she pulls all the way up to turn in to the local access road nats: ambiance how about this taxi service which blocks traffic and completely ignored the no left turn sign nats: ambiance since there haight dead ends except for muni buses driver get a flashing yellow light along with this sign reading proceed with caution on flashing yellow the dedicated bus lane appears to be a great place for non-buses to make right turn which puts the driver into the lane of the oncoming traffic nat: ambiance i have received numerous complaints from residents saying area is unsafe, and if you add in the red light runners i have to agree personally i think there are major design flaws with this whole corridor but it one to the only ways to get traffic in and out of san francisco in san francisco stanley roberts kron 4 news

(tiffany) one man is dead and two others are injured following a shooting in fairfield monday night. it happened around 10 pm on tanglewood drive. the victims were in the garage listening to music when at least one person opened fire. the whole front of the house is riddled with bullets -- at least 40 holes in the garage alone. neighbors described the panic they felt - as they heard the barage of gunfire. (tiffany) investigators arenút releasing information about a suspect... or a motive... but they do say the shooting doesn't appear to have been a random act. (james) the "eagle creek" wildfire has now scorched more than 10-thousand acres in northern oregon. new evacuation orders have been issued for the area.

(tiffany) on her 17th birthday-- last month-- she successfully completed an oral exam as well as a check ride with an f-a-a examiner. she's now the youngest female private pilot in the country. (james) 5-year-old raphael is battling leukemia... but because his immune system is so overwhelmed he can't play on playgrounds with other kids. so the make-a-wish foundation brought the

playground to him... right in his own backyard.(tiffany) folks at the make-a-wish foundation teamed up with volunteers from the home depot... taking a day to build the playset to surprise raphael. raphael says he is pretty sure the play set simply grew in his backyard. (james) it's time for dark... milk and white chocolate to step aside. scientists have invented a new chocolate called "ruby." it's pink and it has a fruity berry-like flavor. (tiffany) the swiss cocoa maker says the chocolate is made from the ruby cocoa bean and has áno berry flavoring or color added. the new chocolate comes 80 years after white chocolate was introduced to the market.

following... hurricane irma making landfall in the caribbean. this is a live shot from st. croix. this category 5 storm is the strongest ever recorded in the atlantic and there are millions of people in it's path. right now the storm is carrying winds of 185 miles per hour and it is barreling towards the u-s and u-s territories. and part of florida is already under a state of emergency. has made landfall in the caribbean. the catgory 5 storm hit the tiny island of barbuda with winds up to 185 miles per hour as it barrels towards the u-s. this is a live shot from st. croix this morning as this storm barrels its way towards the u-s. president trump has already declared emergencies in florida, puerto rico and the u-s virgin islands. this is the view of irma from space. you can see just how large it is. the u-s navy is evacuating 5-thousand troops from the florida air station that is in the path of the storm. people are already leaving florida this morning. it has been 25 years since a category 5 hurricane has it the u-s. and irma could become just the 4th storm of that strength to hit the u-s. james fletcher is in the weather center tracking irma's progress this morning. landfall in the u-s... volunteers from the bay area chapter of the american red cross are on their way to florida.. they left yesterday for a two week mission. dozens of red cross trucks from the bay area.. are already helping victims of hurricane harvey. a few stayed home ready to deploy towards the california wildfires. but as irma intensifies.. 8 trucks, 2 from santa cruz and 6 from oakland, are now on their way to orlando. once there the red cross will assign the volunteers to the hardest hit areas. ( mark ) and happening today... congress could begin discussing a relief package for the victims of hurricane harvey in texas. houston and surrounding communities are busy trying to clean up after the storm devastated much of the southeastern part of texas. 60 people have died as a result of hurricane harvey and several others are still missing this morning. ( darya ) and this morning... kron 4 news is partnering with the salvation army to raise money for disaster relief following hurricane harvey.( mark )

we will be hosting a telethon beginning at 6:00 this morning. salvation army disaster teams from across the country have mobilized and will remain in communities impacted by hurricane harvey.( darya ) your support will help the salvation army stay on the front lines of the hurricane harvey relief efforts. the telethon will run from 6:00 until 10:00 this morning. then again tonight from 6 p-m to 10 p-m. ( darya ) new this morning... police will be making extra patrols at a middle school in the north bay after a student was arrested for threatening the school.( mark ) kron 4's will tran is live at sinaloa middle school in novato with the details. will. ( will ) happening today... there will be more security at one north bay middle school after a student was arrested for making a threat against the school. this happened at sinaloa middle school in novato. police have not released the details of the threat. a 12-year-old boy was arrested. police

searched his home and locker and found several fake guns. he is charged with making criminal threats and has been suspended. police say there is no further danger to the school this morning. ( darya ) thanks will. we will check back with you through out the morning. ( mark ) breaking

overnight... a body found on the side of highway 101 in the north bay.( darya ) tiffany mcelroy is here with more on how police think the man died. tiffany. (tiffany ) the body was found just after 8:30 last night. this happened at the lucas valley off ramp in marin. police say the man's injuries were consistent with being hit by a car but there were no cars stopped in the area and there was no report of an accident. police are now looking for anybody who may have witnessed the man being hit. so far they have not released any details about the victim. back to you. ( mark ) breaking overnight... a plane makes an emergency landing in las vegas after the engine bursts into flames. this is a picture from a passenger on the plane looking out the window... it shows a fire engine on the tarmac. this happened about 15 minutes after take off just after midnight this morning. the delta flight was carrying nearly 200 passengers heading for new york. the plane did land safely. no body was injured. investigators are

now trying to figure out what caused the engine to catch fire. ( darya ) happening now... firefighters are still working to contain a wildfire burning in gilroy. the 'ballybunion fire' started on sunday night... it is now 45- percent contained. at one point it was threatening homes as it burned through dry, rugged terrain. but firefighters say are getting an upper-hand on the fire. the fire has burned about 100 -acres. witnesses reported seeing kids playing with fireworks shortly before the fire broke out... but investigators have not released an official cause. ( mark ) after announcing plans to end the daca program that protects undocumented immigrants who came to the u-s as minors...president trump now says he will revisit the program in six months.( darya ) andrew spencer has the details. among dreamers who rely on daca to avoid the high-price of out-of-state tuition, alam alvarado may be one of the luckier ones.alam alvarado, junior at csu bakersfield: "it feels like my goal just stretched out even further."he may be able to finish his bachelor's degree, because he

( darya ) police in the east bay are looking for three armed men who robbed a target store. take a look at the surveillance video police just released. the robbery happened at the emeryville target on 40th street on saturday night just as the store was closing. three men armed with guns forced customers and employees to the ground... then took money from the cash registers. ( darya ) the three robbers were last seen getting away in a silver four-door sedan. ( mark ) bay area families are taking new steps to prevent the closure of a specialized medical facility

( mark ) new this morning... the city of san francisco is reconsidering the sale of a private street in an upscale neighborhood. presidio terrace was sold for

90-thousand dollars in 2015 after the homeowner's association failed to pay its property taxes. people who live on the street only learned about it earlier this year. now the homeowners association has filed a lawsuit challenging the sale and questioning whether homeowners were properly notified. a hearing on the lawsuit is scheduled for november. ( mark ) three current alameda county sheriff's deputies and one former deputy were in court on charges related to the mistreatment of inmates at the santa rita jail. sarah krause, justin linn, erik mcdermott, and stephen sarcos are facing assault and conspiracy to obstruct justice charges. prosecutors say an investigation in the case revealed that mcdermott choked an inmate until that person was unconscious. the others are accused of felony assault for allegedly letting an inmate throw feces at another inmate. ( darya ) new this morning... another wildfire destroying homes in california. the mission fire is burning in madera county in the central part of the state. so far it has burned more

than a thousand acres and destroyed 5 buildings including three homes. the fire started sunday afternoon and is just 10-percent contained this morning. several neighborhoods are under evacuation this morning. firefighters are hoping that cooler temperatures will help them prevent the fire from spreading. 4-year-old daughter to fight other children.( darya ) austin police say the mother recorded the fights - laughing as the children scream for help. three adults in total are accused of encouraging the fights. the mother of another child in the video told police she was teaching her daughter to defend herself from bullies at school. the father of the 4-year-old girl went to authorities after the videos were posted online. ( darya ) child protective services removed seven children from their homes in response to the fights. if convicted, the adults in this case could spend up to two-years behind bars. this... people are scrambling to get water and other supplies as they prepare for hurricane irma. this is video from a grocery store in miami gardens. a security guard had to step in and hand out cases of water after people started fighting over them. ( darya ) and hurricane irma comes right on the heal of hurricane harvey which devastated texas. at least 60 people died. several others are still missing. the storm causing millions of dollars in damage. and even though the flood waters have started to recede the recovery efforts are just beginning. later today congress is expected to begin the process of approving federal relief money. ( mark ) tiffany mcelroy is here with a look at the stations being targeted. tiffany. ( tiffany ) most of these burglaries happened at the coliseum station. that is where 4 cars were targeted. in all 4 cases the windows of the cars were smashed and police say it looks like the cars were searched but nothing was reported stolen. another car was burglarized at the south hayward station. police say in that case somebody broke into a car and tried to steal it. when the owner tried to start the car... the ignition switch was damaged. a car was also

broken into at the milbrae station and a car was stolen from the pittsburg station. ( mark ) bay area parents are being forced to find a new nursery for their kids after a pre-school shuts down unexpectedly.( darya ) the 'happy times nursery' in san francisco told parents... they did not have the money or the teachers to keep the school running. kron 4's ella sogomonian has the details. just one day before orientation - dozens of parents got word happy times nursery in san francisco was permenantly closingforcing them to come up with a last minute option.sot: jack mogannam, parent// "this is the time that school's start so yeah there was zero time."a letter from happy times directors explained a shortage of teachers and funds forced the closure.but parents wonder why the problem wasn't brought forth sooner so they could help the decades-old school out.sot: jack mogannam, parent// "you know we're a really accommodating community out there and if they had maybe asked for a little tuition increase or some kind of help with teacher's aids or something like that we probably could have kept it

going because that school's been in business for over 50 years."parents who pre- paid 800 dollars in first month's tuition and school supplies now wonder if they'll get it back.sot: jack mogannam, parent// "i hope they didn't just blow the money or do something with it for their own benefit let's put it that way. i'm not banking on it though." ( mark ) that was ella sogomonian reporting this morning. the school's directors sent a second letter to parents saying that the school does plan on reimbursing them. ( mark ) alameda will ánot accept thousands of dollars in federal grant money. the city believes doing so would violate its sanctuary city status. alameda typically gets between 10 and 30-thousand dollars a year from the justice department. the money is used to buy equipment and supplies for the police department. this year... the city was eligible for about 11-thousand dollars. but when the application arrived -- a new requirement was added -- the city manager would have to provide

information on immigration status. ( mark ) refusing the federal funds is a mostly symbolic gesture. the city has an annual budget of 249 million dollars. alameda is now looking to team up with other sanctuary cities to challenge the justice department's new requirement. ( darya ) a 31-year-old woman was robbed and pushed to the ground while holding her infant daughter in san francisco's soma neighborhood. it happened on sunday morning in the area of seventh and natoma streets. police say the victim was on her cellphone while holding her daughter when a man walked up, stole her phone and pushed the woman to the ground. the attacker took off and is still on teh loose this morning. the infant was unharmed. the mother was injured but is expected to be okay. ( mark ) we now know the name of the man killed whn a caltrain train hit a car in redwood city. we brought you this story live yesterday on the kron 4 morning news. it happened just before 1:30 yesterday morning near the intersection of buckingham and westmoreland avenues - in

redwood city. c-h-p officers say 29-year-old pierre-alexandre meloty- kapella... drove his car through a fence and got stuck on the track when it was hit. the train was going to san francisco from san jose. investigators are now trying to figure out if drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash. this is the fifth death on caltrain tracks this year. ( darya ) the right-wing activist accused of inciting violence at a berkeley trump rally pleaded not guilty to felony charges. kyle chapman was in court yesterday. he is charged with possession of a leaded cane at this rally back in march. the 41-year-old daly city man is out on bail. police say chapman was swinging a wooden stick at people during the rally. prosecutors say that chapman has two prior convictions, one for grand theft in san diego county in 2001 and one for robbery in texas in 1993. ( darya ) an independent team of experts says, bad design and construction ... led to the disastrous spillway collapse at the oroville dam. dam safety experts say,

the state probably could have detected the problems, if dam managers had reviewed the original flaws earlier. authorities ordered nearly 2 - hundred- thousand people to evacuate in february, after both the primary and secondary spillways failed. ( darya ) a couple of intersections in san francisco are causing confusion for drivers.( mark ) kron4's stanley roberts explains in this edition of people behaving badly. if you look up the word confusion in the dictionary you might see an image of the octavia blvd. corridor in san francisco ..this is a street with stop signs and red lights basically side by side .. let's see how that's working out they don't understand that they have to stop when it green still, they still go through as if it's was a normal intersection. so watch the cars making the right off octavia to page .. so the drivers on local access lane have a stop sign to avoid crashes from the main road however, many drivers look at the green light and ignore the stop sign .. this happens a lot at octavia and page street nats: ambiance a block away on octavia and haight, it has different problems . see the words keep clear painted in

the street . it might as well say stop here and clog up traffic during rush hour everyone blocks this intersection and every morning first thing in the morning it's a honking fest . this guy works at boba guys right smack on the corner it wasn't even rush hour and drivers were clogging up the intersection here's why, some impatient drivers use the non-turn lane to make a turn just like this driver she pulls all the way up to turn in to the local access road nats: ambiance how about this taxi service which blocks traffic and completely ignored the no left turn sign nats: ambiance since there haight dead ends except for muni buses driver get a flashing yellow light along with this sign reading proceed with caution on flashing yellow the dedicated bus lane appears to be a great place for non-buses to make right turn which puts the driver into the lane of the oncoming traffic nat: ambiance i have received numerous complaints from residents saying area is unsafe, and if you add in the red light runners i have to agree personally i think there are major design flaws with this whole corridor but it one to the only ways to get traffic in and out of san francisco in san francisco stanley roberts kron 4 news

breaking news we are following this morning... hurricane irma has made landfall in the caribbean. the catgory 5 storm hit the tiny island of barbuda with winds up to 185 miles per hour as it barrels towards the u-s. this is a live shot from st. croix this morning as this storm barrels its way towards the u-s. president trump has already declared emergencies in florida, puerto rico and the u-s virgin islands. this is the view of irma from space. you can see just how large it is. the u-s navy is evacuating 5-thousand troops from the florida air station that is in the path of the storm. people are already leaving florida this morning. it has been 25 years since a category 5 hurricane has it the u-s. and irma could become just the 4th storm of that strength to hit the u-s. james fletcher is in the weather center tracking irma's progress this morning. ( mark ) even before irma makes landfall in the u-s... volunteers from the bay area chapter of the american red cross are on their way to florida.. they left yesterday for a two week mission. dozens of red cross trucks from the bay area.. are already helping victims of hurricane harvey. a few stayed home ready to deploy towards the california wildfires. but as irma intensifies.. 8 trucks, 2 from santa cruz and 6 from oakland, are now on their way to orlando. once there the red cross will assign the volunteers to the hardest hit areas. ( mark ) and happening today... congress could begin discussing a relief package for the victims of hurricane harvey in texas. houston and surrounding communities are busy trying to clean up after the storm devastated much of the southeastern part of texas. 60 people have died as a result of hurricane harvey and several others are

( darya ) new this morning... police will be making extra patrols at a middle school in the north bay after a student was arrested for threatening the school.( mark ) kron 4's will tran is live at sinaloa middle school in novato with the details. will. ( will ) happening today... there will be more security at one north bay middle school after a student was arrested for making a threat against the school. this happened at sinaloa middle school in novato. police have not released the details of the threat. a 12-year-old boy was arrested. police searched his home and locker and found several fake guns. he is charged with making

( darya ) police in the east bay are looking for three armed men who robbed a target store. take a look at the surveillance video police just released. the robbery happened at the emeryville target on 40th street on saturday night just as the store was closing. three men armed with guns forced customers and employees to the ground... then took money from the cash registers. ( darya ) the three robbers were last seen getting away in a silver four-door sedan. ( mark ) the possible closure of one hospital unit

in san francisco could cost some patients their lives. it is happening at the life support unit in saint luke's hospital. twenty-four families gathered in front of city hall yesterday. they pleaded to the public to help them stop the closure. family members say there is no other similar facility nearby. ( mark ) a statement from the california pacific medical center reads in part: "the long- scheduled closure of the sub-acute unit at st. luke's... was a result of negotiations between the city and c-p-m-c. we will continue to provide the best possible care to our patients while we work with them and their families .... to secure places for them in nearby ( mark ) new this morning... the city of san francisco is reconsidering the

sale of a private street in an upscale neighborhood. presidio terrace was sold for 90-thousand dollars in 2015 after the homeowner's association failed to pay its property taxes. people who live on the street only learned about it earlier this year. now the homeowners association has filed a lawsuit challenging the sale and questioning whether homeowners were properly notified. a hearing on the lawsuit is scheduled for november. ( darya ) coming up... an officer who arrested a nurse for not complying to his commands is out of a job. but he's still employed by the police department. details next. and here's a live look

( darya ) and hurricane irma comes right on the heal of hurricane harvey which devastated texas. at least 60 people died. several others are still missing.

( darya ) a 31-year-old woman was robbed and pushed to the ground while holding her infant daughter in san francisco's soma neighborhood. it happened on sunday morning in the area of seventh and natoma streets. police say the victim was on her cellphone while holding her daughter when a man walked up, stole her phone and pushed the woman to the ground. the attacker took off and is still on teh loose this morning. the infant was unharmed. the mother was injured but is expected to be okay.
