businesses and residents in alameda point can use their tap water to shower, wash their hands and dishes... but a "do not drink" the tap water remains in place. east bay mud made the rounds today... giving out free, clean water for people to use. pacific fine food catering company took advantage of that. yesterday, the owner said she and her employees had to lug 275 gallons of clean water to the kitchen to keep things running smoothly. kelly kearney/owner- "it was crazy -- all day long. i was just schlepping water. i felt like i was going to drown." the water advisories issued tuesday have impacted some 270 residents... and, more than 60 businesses. the city of alameda says somehow... the east bay mud potable water pipe in the area was contaminated with non- potable water. (vicki) two small earthquakes hit the south bay...this morning. the first quake hit around 10:30 a- m... about 3 miles northeast

of alum rock - in between san jose and milipitas. it had a magnitude of 3.3... then about two hours later... a 2.6 quake struck the east foothills area. kron four viewers said they felt the first quake all over the south bay. no damage or injuries were reported. (grant) new sketches have been released of the susepct in a cold case murder that happened nearly 27-years-ago. east bay regional park district plice are trying to solve the murder of maria jane weidhofer. weidhofer's body was found on the nimitz way trail in berkeley in november 19-90. investigators say she was sexually assaulted before she was strangled to death. witnesses at the time described the man as a 25 to 30 year old caucasian man with a thin build, dark hair and a mustache. police are releasing this composite sketch of what they believe the man looks like now. (vicki) campbell police have taken a suspect into custody - who they say shot at police. it started late last night when police received a report of a prowler on cypress lane. when

officers arrived they found a man in the side yard of a home. he ran and jumped into the backyard of another home... and police heard several gunshots. a perimeter was set up as they searched for the man. he was eventually found near los gatos creek and taken into custody early this morning. a shelter in place was ordered as police searched the area to make sure there were no other suspects. (vicki) all lanes of interstate 580... have reopened following a deadly collision that shutdown several lanes for nearly ten hours. the collision happened around 4 this morning in castro valley... on the westbound lanes of i-580 just east of eden canyon road. all lanes reopened around 2 - as crews were working to clear the scene. kron four's will tran shows us what happened. pkg scriptinvestigators say the driver of this big rig didn't stand a chance.. after slamming his big rig into the back of another big rig shortly after 4 in the morning. the cab is mangled... the steering wheel pushed all the way back to the seat... crushing the driver where he sat.(sgt joe acevedo/chp-we

believe the driver of the black sedan made a lane change and crossed in front of the big rig. the big rig then locked up its brakes)the chp doesn't know why the driver of the black sedan clipped the first big rig.but the collision was bad enough where the semi truck was stuck on the freeway.they say the truck driver did have his hazard lights and should have been visible to traffic.(sgt avevedo/chp-for some reason he wasn't able to evade the big rig or stop in time. whether he misinterpreted it as the vehicle was on the shoulder or the speed we are not sure at this time)the trucks blocked all lanes of westbound traffic at eden canyon road exit...and making things worse.. one of them was leaking fluids that needed to be removed.drivers were forced to exit the freeway and then reconnect past the scene.some said it took them three hours to travel just a few miles to the exit.despite still being inside the cab at the time of the collision.. the driver of the big rig was not hurt.the driver in the car was taken to the hospital for his injuries but will survive.(will tran/castro valley-the investigation could take a week. the chp will look into many possible factors including the drivers could have dozed off at the wheel or

(vicki) you could soon have a different selection of furry-friends at the pet store. california lawmakers have approved a bill requiring pet stores to sell shelter animals. it bans stores from selling animals from "puppy mills" and mass-breeding operations. supporters say it ensures only animals bred in healthy and humane conditions are sold. pet stores that violate the new law face a 500 dollar fine. the bill now has to be approved by governor jerry brown. lawmakers are pushing a bill to end the practice of so- called "lunch shaming." "lunch shaming" is when a student is publically shamed because their parent cannot pay for their lunch bill. the bill will require local education officials to help those families sign up for free- and reduced-lunch programs. backers of the bill say children shouldn't be used as debt-collection instruments. the u-s-d-a now requires districts to inform parents about meal debts... but it does not ban any practices. we first brought to you yesterday on kron four news at five. authorities say the 15-year-old gunman suspected in yesterday's shooting.... at a high school in spokane - shot and killed a student who tried to talk him out of it. the spokane county sheriff says the gunman brought an ar- 15 and handgun onto the campus. when the ar-15 jammed, he transitioned to the handgun. when a classmate stepped in and tried to reason with him, the gunman shot one round at his midsection, and a second round at his head. he then started firing, striking three other classmates. ozzie knezovich/spokane county sheriff: we had a very tragic situation. where one young man decided to walk into a school and shoot his classmates. this is a situation that plays out in our society way too often and we as a society need to make a determination as to what's causing this.(vicki) the shooter was stopped

police are looking for a woman who is caught on surveillance video... stealing a purse from an 82-year-old woman. (grant) this incident happened as the elderly woman was grocery shopping in an electric scooter. reporter tom wait shows us the video. police are searching for a suspect who stole an 82-year-old woman's purse and then went on a shopping spree with her credit cards.the theft happened tuesday morning at a ralphs in burbank, and surveillance video captured the brazen act as the thief snuck up behind the woman and snatched the purse from her electric scooter when she wasn't looking.the victim had placed the purse on the floorboard of the scooter she was using to get around the store, but when she looked away and reached for something on a shelf, the suspect grabbed the purse and took off, said burbank police department sgt. derek green. "that's awful, picking on old people like that, why would you want to do that?" asked lonny craig, a burbank resident who watched the video

room... of the mannequin that's missing. the incident happened overnight at k-j couture... and it wasn't until an employee arrived at work this morning - that anyone realized a theft occurred. here's where it gets really weird: the crook left behind 200-dollars and this apology note. it reads - " sorry for stealing your statue... she needed a better home. you should consider better security. love hollywood." the store owner is now offering a 200- dollar reward for the mannequin's safe return. meanwhile... a couple of northern california counties have declared themselves "dreamers counties." santa cruz county and monterey county both made the move on tuesday. they are likely the first counties in the nation to make the declaration. a monterey county supervisor says, the move sends a message to undocumented immigrants... that the county is going to fight for them... and adds, it is also a way for the lcoal government to encourage members of congress to act. the designation came before democrats announced an apparent deal on daca with president trump.
