(grant) then - last monday... police say this man robbed a woman at gunpoint during the morning commute hours. officers say around 9:30 a-m... a train had just departed the hayward station when this man approached his victim. he pointed his gun at the victim - grabbed her purse, phone and other personal items - and then took off. police are now releasing these images - in hopes that someone who recognizes the suspects will call police. (vicki) mexican authorities have raised the death toll from tuesday's earthquake to 293...with more than half the fatalities in the capital..(grant) catherine heenan is here with an update....including the ongoing race to find survivors.. that you didn't authorize, you're asked to report them to the antioch police. (grant) the city of san francisco is stepping up efforts to prevent a hepatitis a outbreak. this comes after three outbreaks of the disease have been reported in three california counties including santa cruz county. more than 400 people have come down with the disease in the past month in san diego county. 70 people also have the disease in santa cruz county. los angeles county is also affected. hepatitis a can be spread through unwashed hands and food as well as sharing needles. officials with the city of san francisco are working to increase vaccinations for adults. leandro man says his daughter was in tears and now he wants other parents to beware and he wants bart to take action. edgar paz, she was just sucker punched by a 26 year old man. this is picture of edgar paz's daughter after a stranger hit while she was riding bart the other day coming home from school. paz says the contaced police immediately, gave them pictures of his daughter who also caught this picture of the back of the man who attacked her. paz said police promised to investigate, but he says much more needs to be done. paz. more should be done to make sure everyone gets to their destination safely. paz brought up recent cases such as this man wanted for pulling a gun on a rider last week, and that incident where a mob took over a bart train. paz. they made out like bandits, all i see is bart police writing tickets, they need to do more. alicia trost. what we are seeing is crime up evrywher and bart is not immune. alicia trost says bart is investigating the attack on the 18 year old and says they are also increasing security on trains. as well as trying to hire more officers to help make the system safer. trost. it is a priority the chief is getting

(pam) oakland's jack london square district, for so long, has been popular destination for tourists... and, known as a prime spot to live.(pam) now we are learning that auto thefts and burgalaries in that area are up....(steve) and, a tenant who lives in the neighborhood says, the problem has gotten out of control. so much so, that that person tells kron four's philippe djegal he is moving out. it's a story you will see only on four. (philippe) the contstant sight of broken car windows... shattered on the ground... has become too much for this tenant at the landing at jack london square.victim- 'anybody can walk up and down the street and see all the cars broken into at night, and that's a daily basis." he wants to remain private, but also get his story out there. after living here for the past five and a half years... he's decided to move out. this after all four of his car rims and tires were reported stolen sunday.victim- "and, in my own parking spot. in my garage." the community is gated and the

parking garages are under video surveillance... but crimes are still being committed.victim- "i think it is people that are coming from out of the area. i wouldn't expect that, um, to happen from a resident in the complex." the oakland police department says auto burglaries in the jack london square district are up 36-percent this year... compared to the same period last year. vehicle thefts are up 15-percent.victim- "on a daily basis, you'll see three or four cars broken into and that's been going on for many years, but now its actually coming into the complex, which is, um, alarming." the community manager for the landing at jack london square sent a letter out to all tenants, alerting them about the crime issue and that the oakland police department is also aware. the tenants are being asked to be on the lookout for suspicious activity and not to hesitate to reach out to police for help. in oakland, philippe djegal, kron four news. this map shows just how

many car break-ins and thefts have been reported in oakland just this week. the city has a crime mapping system that highlights any crime where there is a report. the magenta icons... those are thefts. brown... that is a break-in. if there is a number... that means there are multiple reports of a crime in the area. ( steve ) we all know about the ongoing auto burglary problem in san francisco. police need help with a recent high-stakes theft. four unique jewelry pieces were stolen last month in break-in near ocean beach. you are seeing them here... police say they are worth a total of about 900-thousand dollars. the buglary happened in the middle of the day on august 12th... near the great highway and balboa street. investigators say the items were in a couple of tote bags in the back of cadillac escalade. (pam) the owner of several popular grocery stores in san francisco.... is being mourned tonight after police sa, y he was stuck and killed in a hit and run crash. (pam) tonight police are looking for the

driver of a silver sedan, which they say sustained heavy front end damage and a broken windsheild.. in the fatal collision.(steve) kron4's maureen kelly reports that victim was run down early this morning near the wholesale produce market in the city's bayview district. he was very smart very savvy he was a good businessmanthe owner of earl's organic is describing his longtime customer gus vardakastanis. they've been haggling over produce for almost 40 years. he describes vardakastanis as a driven and shrewd businessman.he had rough edges which is real. and he didn't try to hide it he didn't try to make himself over he didn't try to fit in this is who i am take it or leave itthe greek immigrant would often show up at the wholesale produce market to re stock the shelves of his three grocery stores at 2am.that's right near where police say he was fatally struck in the crosswalk at the intersection of toland and jerrold at 2:17 am. the car, descdribed as a silver sedan with heavy front end damage and a broken windshield from the collision was last seen

going westbound on jerrold. a small memorial has been set up near there, this woman leaving flowers was too upset to talk on camera.this afternoon police officers could be seen going door to door looking for surveillance video at the nearby intersection of newhall and mckinnon. shotspotter technology detected gunfire at this location just 5 minutes before vardakastanis was run down. police are investigating if the two crimes are related.the death of the 56 year old was felt hard here at gus's community market in the mission.which vardakastanis opened along with his two sons in 2015. the entrepenuer first opened his haight street market in the 80's, and followed with noriega produce some years later. both are considered neighborhood institutions. everybody is shocked everybody understands this is a loss this is a very very big thing vardakastanis is such a big part of the community that the mayor issued a statement on his passing saying his welcoming and entrepreneurial spirit will be missed by the many people he touched. maureen kelly kron4 news ( pam ) a close call on east bay

( grant ) we got a picture of this a little over an hour ago...and someone is definitely feeling lucky tonight. check it out.... the piece of metal you see... went right through the windshield. the c-h-p says a vehicle spilled part of its load on 880 just south of hegenberger road in oakland... another vehicle kicked it up... and you can see the end result. and in the back seat... a couple dogs who probably have no idea their lives might have been danger. you can see the metal piece wedged right through the headrest and the seat. nobody was injured. if the c-h-p tracks down if the c-h-p tracks down the vehicle that spilled the load... that driver could be facing a ticket. trucks are supposed to keep their loads covered and secured on the freeways to avoid incidents like this one. so a close call tonight on an east bay

(catherine) it happened on the 7th floor of this high-rise building - the 'park merced' apartments on

cambon drive.. the fire - reported around 5 this morning.. crews had to rescue two residents who were then taken to the hospital...one of them - said to be in serious condition. a third victim had been reported - but didn't need medical care. firefighters evacuated several floors of the 13-story building, and told residents on other floors to shelter in place. kron four talked to one of the residents of the apartment which burned... resident of apartment that burned - i was in the middle bedroom and there's this girl who lives in the living room. and there was smoke coming into my bedroom. when i opened the door the entire living room was on fire with smoke all over. first i went to the master bedroom to make sure everyone was out. the girl was trying to put out the fire but it was too big. and once we came downstairs, it was flaming. there's heavy damage in the apartment which burned....and also damage to the unitsabove and below. tonight several people have been displaced - and a

what a scene it was. dozens of writers, photographers, videographers. everybody who was anybody in the nba was out here with the team including our reporters. warriors have won two out of the last three nba championships. now though it is time for the team to get back on track and prepare for another season. one of the big topics of conversation was head coach steve kerr's health. kerr has missed a large chunk of games over the past two seasons. he was asked about his health today.

another topic of conversation today was the warriors and a possible visit to the white house. it is tradition for the nba champions to travel to washington d.c. usually there is an invite from the president. that has not yet come according to steve kerr but there had been past talk that the team wouldn't go anyway. today general manager bob meyers said they will discuss the decision as a team and should have an answer to what will happen in the next week. players though certainly have their opinions.

if you didn't watch the 49ers last night. you missed a heck of a game. possibly the best in the nfl so far this season. but it came with a tough outcome for the niners.to the game we go. fourth quarter niners down by eight. carlos hyde pounds his way into the endzone. that's a touchdown. 41 to 39. now the pressure is on. team goes for two, trying to tie this thing up. shotgun

toddler who was hit by a foul ball at the yankees game this week in new york. already this year three fans have been hit by balls at that park alone. officials said the ball was going faster than 100 miles per hour when she was hit. the san francisco giants have made changes to the netting but others still need to. the mlb commissioner spoke on this earlier today. the seattle mariners is taking steps to protect fans from foul balls.a spokesperson for the baseball team said the mariners plan to extend the safety netting at its safeco field stadium.
