must respect this!"one of the country's best=known athletes says the president just doesn't get it. "it's not about the disrepect of the flag, or the military or anybody that has made this world free. it's about equality and people having the freedom to speak about the things they feel are not (sic) injust."steph curry and the warriors, a's catcher bruce maxwell and above all former 49er colin kapernick have all found themselves on the white house hit list. "wouldn't you love to see one of these nfl owners, when someone direspects our flag, to say get that son of a b-tch off the field. right now. he's fired. he's fired!"instead, many nfl owners linked arms with their teams on game day. new england patriots owner robert kraft, a vocal trump supporter and a million=dollar donor to his inaugural, went so far as to write , "there is no greater unifier in this country than sports and, unfortunately, nothing more divisive than politics" questions, too about timing: the president launched his latest twitter war as north korea made new threats against the u=s ... republicans congress struggled to pass health care and tax cut changes ... and a million

american citizens suffered from hurricane maria in puerto rico and the virgin islands "what message is the president sending by emphasizing sports right now and not a big crisis that's affecting so many?" "he's not, he's not emphasizing sports, you're missing the entire purpose of the message. he's emphasizing something that should be unifying. . (on cam) the president praised nascar fans for their patriotism on twitter. those fans tend to be white and rural, and critics say the president is showing the same racial insentivity he showed after the right=wing violence in charlottesville, and in suggesting that barack obama was not born in america.

(vicki) while teams across the league took a stand, no franchise had a bigger stage to demonstrate on... than the oakland raiders and washington redskins.(grant) the two teams met in primetime on sunday night football... just a few miles away from the white house. as expected, both franchises joined in the protests. for more, we turn to mark carpenter...who is live at raiders headquarters. mark? normally, this is a day where we'd be talking about the game and the raiders blowout loss to the redskins. but, like many figures across the sports world have said, these are not normal times.
5:03 pm
both franchises demonstrated gestures of solidarity last night in washington, d.c. the redskins stood...across the sideline with arms locked. the majority of raiders players and coaches.. ..decided to remain seated during the anthem. a few chose to stand including derek carr, coach jack del rio and owner mark davis. the original plan was for the team to remain in the tunnel and not come out at all, but it was so close to kick off, they would have missed the coin toss, and risked getting an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. after a disappointing loss, del rio made it clear that the emotions from the protest had no bearing on the game. a stance he reinforced this afternoon. "no i don't think so...no.""we just wanted to make sure to show that we were together. you know, whether you agree or disagree, from the outside looking in, for standing or sitting, whatever. the ultimate goal is just to

show that for one brief second we all love one another even if one guy sits or one guy stands." what's been intriguing through all of this is the change in opinion from mark davis. last year, he had said that he was opposed to any type of protest, but according to reports, he's had a change of heart and says that with everything happening, he can no longer ask the players to not say something. (grant) in about 25 minutes - we get a different prespective on the national anthem protests. political analyst and university of san francisco professor james taylor... joins us on set with his

(vicki) there's another battle brewing between the president and north korea... today, north korea's top diplomat accused president trump of declaring war on his country...(grant) it's the latest in the u.s. - north korea war of words.. catherine heenan is here with the latest.. (catherine) the white house pushing back on north korea's claim that president trump's recent words amount to a declaration of war.. . insisting that the u.s. is trying all peaceful diplomatic and economic options...the white house -- also clarifying that it's not trying to overthrow

north korea's government. this follows the president's weekend tweet that kim jong un 'won't be around much longer.' north korea's foreign minister today that it would take counter measures - including the the right to shoot down u.s. bombers flying over the korean peninsula. north korean foreign minister - however last weekend trump claimed that our leadership wouldn't be around much longer and hence at last, he declared a war on our country. given the fact that this comes from someone who is currently holding the seat of the united states presidency this is clearly a declaration of war. white house press secretary - not at all. we have not declared ear on south korea and frankly the suggestion is absurd. we continue to work to see the peaceful denuclearization of the north korea. that's our focus. the war of words has been escalating...president trump warned north korea of total destruction.....and the two leaders have been exchanging threats and insults... grant and vicki?

(vcki) a big announcement from the supreme court today. it will not hear arguments on president trump's travel ban on october 10th. the decision comes after trump issued new travel restrictions yesterday. those restrictions would replace a provision of the ban that was expiring. the court wants to hear from both sides... if the issue is unresolved after trump's proclamation. those briefs are due october fifth. the travel restrictions cover eight countries -- chad, iran, libya, north korea, syria, venezuela, somalia and yemen. chad, north korea and venezuela were not covered by the earlier ban. (grant) the newest republican effort to repeal and replace obamacare would leave millions of americans uninsured... in the next ten years. that's according to a preliminary report issued today by the non-partisan congressional budget office. the report says the graham-cassidy bill would reduce the budget deficit by at least 133 billion dollars... but
5:08 pm
millions of people would lose comprehensive health insurance. the cbo says it will take several weeks to estimate how the plan would impact insurance premiums and how many million americans would be left without coverage. fellow republicans john mccain and rand paul have committed to oppose the bill. senator susan collins also came out today - saying she's now againts the bill. collins' stance likely kills the measure as it can not pass the senate if every democrat and three republicans vote against it. (vicki) a rally at u-c berkeley turned contentious today. it was a planned event in opposition to free speech week that was abrupty canceled this weekend. all of this coming as the university continues to rack up big bills as they deal with security measures to keep the peace. kron four's terisa estacio joins us live from the u-c berkeley campus with more on the controversy and the costs. terisa? estacio, live, berkeley - it was heated exchange at times during this rally today here at uc berkeley - the group
