[ gunfire ] again, we know that at and he ran off the stage. >> there were some other performers as well that were backstage that were told to take shelter as quickly as they could. they rap into the trailer in the back. they haven't been allowed back in there because they are in the line of fire. as was everyone down below with the shooter 32 floors up in the

mandalay bay hotel. that will be considered a crime scene this more than as they try to investigate how this could happen and why it happened. >> here is new video of the crowd as the shots were fired. you can see some of them starting to run, some of them ducking for cover. everyone trying to get out of the venue safely or protect themselves from the bullets. that is where the shots were coming on the top left-hand side of the screen. that is the land lay bay hotel with the light stripes on it. >> when you consider how many bullets and all the shots, when you hear them just continuing and continuing to the sea of people, now you understand how we could suddenly go from 200 to 400 injured. maybe even more. a lot of people with blapss. and a lot of people got there on their own. they were transported by others, either friends or strangers. more than 400 people have gone to local hospitals to seek

treatment and 50 at this point are dead. we also are continuing to get information on what can you do if you have a friend or no someone at the concert and you are calling them, you can't get an answer. you don't know if they are okay or not. there is the number from the red cross. pass it along. jot it and maybe help someone else later on in the day if you encount are somebody at your work today who knew someone at the concert that they haven't heard from. that is the number to call to figure out if your loved one is okay. >> i'm standing right on stage right of the stage looking at jason, looking at the band and jake owen was standing right next to me. a bunch of our friend and there was a sound like it was pyro misfiring. i was like why is there pyrotechnics going off now. and then a few minutes -- a few second later, and when it didn't stop, we realized what

was happening and the sound -- not only was it the sound but also the shells that were actually coming down, bullets coming down on the deck of the stage. >> so a new video, new information continues to come. we will keep following the latest with the deadliest mass shooting in u.s. history at this concert in las vegas strip. >> time now is 5:48. we want to take a moment to make sure you know the weather and traffic as you head to work or school on this monday morning here in the bay area. >> james has the forecast. >> here what is we are looking for for san francisco, oakland and san jose today. fair lie mild temperatures. just a couple of degree warmer in san jose, about 78. most of the bay area should be in the 70s. our warmest spots, maybe very low 80s like santa rosa at 80. generally lock at mid- to upper 70s both inland and by the bay so the temperature range today will be very come policed. we'll be looking at relatively stable weather except for the fact we have really strong wind coming at us from the

the local hospitals there. they also talked about how las vegas may need help. there may be bay area help on the way. we'll see if any of our local doctors are going to be needing surgeons, doctors, nurses an they need blood there to treat the people who are injured. 50 are dead but some are in terrible condition and they may worsen. that death toll may rise this morning. we want to find out more about this gunman who at this point was 64 years old and lived in a retirement community we want to know how of his able for 10 or 20 minute to shoot those weapons. >> this is the update associated with the events that took place earlier tonight. just a matter of recall. at 10:00 p.m. last night, we started receiving calls of an active

shooter at route 91 harvest festival located adjacent to the manned hay bay resort. we were receiving information that there was an active shooter firing round from the 32nd floor. that individuals that were attending the festival, the number is estimated to be 22,000, were being struck by those rounds. currently, the clark county fire department is estimating the injuries to be well over 400 and the deaths associated with this event to be over 50. i can't give you an exact number yet because we are still investigating some of the areas involved in the event where the concert was taking place and we are still exiting individuals that were hidden and it is just a matter of a process. it will take quite eye while for us to get through the evacuation phase and then eventually we will have an assessment on the injuries

associated with that. now, our suspect was identified as stephen craig paddock, 64 years old, a white male from mesquite nevada. we have no information associated with this individual that is derogatory. he received a citation several years ago and that citation was handled as a matter of normal practice in the court system. some important things that i need to get out. the family reunification still is taking place here at the las vegas metropolitan police department headquarters. so any individuals that are looking for answers for their family members or friend are wick to come here and we will provide the information as we get t the fbi is vital in the assistance of this investigation as a matter of help. they are providing a number 1-

methodical and it will take us quite some sometime before we conduct a church phase. >> did you guys find any weapons on marlou danley. >> no, ma'am. i don't know what has tape place as far as the interview with her. okay. i think it is important for you to notice who is standing behind me. we have chief greg castle. he has been integral in the saving of lives.

have you found any information at this point that revealed insight into the motive? >> no, we have noflt. we have not -- we have not. we have not located items in his room or house at this point. it was a matter of normal practice. whenever we used a dynamic entry. >> was there anything in the hotel room aside from the number of weapons that made you think he had be there for a while? >> he's been there since the 28th of september. i have no idea if he prevented the housekeepering from entering the room. we'll provide you with an update in about two hours.

we're seeing the number injured increasing dramatically. >> a military analyst said from the sounds of the gun shots, it seemed to be a belt fed military style weapon the shooting was using. let's pause and you can hear the country musician on the stage singing and the shots ringing out. ♪ [ music ] [gun shots ] >> and you can see the scene there. jason aldean running from the stage. he tweeted that he is all right as well as his band members. but people in the concert grounds there. there's the mandalay where the shots were fired from. >> with the ways the shots were being fired from 32 floors up,

they describe it as shooting fish in a barrel. you can see people's confusion. they didn't know where the bullets were coming from. should they stay where they are, get under something, run? the airport is close by and some people wound up running on to the runway of the airport to get away from the shots being fired. >> the shots just kept coming. and so we were going down and whether we got down, there was a man that was shot right there. they were trying to take him out. he was bloody and unconscious. one of my friends was helping him out. and they got him out. and we ran. and everybody is hiding everywhere. they're hiding under the bleachers and anywhere they could. everyone is telling us to run as fast as we can.

my husband and i ran toward our car. they were people hiding underneath my car for cover. >> and that was jason aldean who was the performer. he was singing when this happened. here's a statement he issued this morning. tonight has been beyond horrific. i still don't know what to say but wanted to let everyone know that me and my crew are safe. my thoughts and prayers go out to everyone involve. it hurts my heart this would happen to anyone coming out to enjoy what should have been a fun night. >> and chris young also performing at the festival. and he tweeted, i'm not going to say anything else another than i'm lucky to be alive as are many others and so many people are gone. it's heart break k. >> and this concert having up to 30,000 people, all of the people

had cell phones. some of them shooting up from the ground. there's barriers there. people had to make it through the crowd. some died or are injured. some made it through and had to get over a fengsed area. some people had to climb over wire fencing that cut them. so they could have been injured in many ways. that's why we have so many reports of so many people, well over 400, being injured. >> the shots were from the 327nd floor of the -- 32nd floor of the hotel. the windows do not open. he opened fire with the ten weapons in his possession. he killed himself as police were moving in. people are saying this shooting went on for ten plus minutes with brief breaks as the shooter

reload or switched weapons. it was coming from across the street to the con ser goers -- concert goers below. >> this is a 15 plus acre site and you have the sells surrounded. and -- hotels vaunded. so they went floor by floor looking for the gunman. the whole hotel was on lockdown. >> he heard three or four shots and what sounded like rapid fire money gns. they started shutting down the casinos and started moving people out. we tried to go to our rooms and they shut down did elevators. >> did the shots appear to be coming from the upper levels? >> that's what it sounded like. >> here's a map of where the

shooting happened. there you see the moouzic festival on -- music festival on las vegas boulevard. the mandalay bay hotel is where the shots were fired from across the street. on the right hand side, there's mk koirn mccarron -- mccarron international airport. the shots were just down the street. think ant the kind of secure you have at the festival. and in hotels, you check your brags and go right up. this guy had a number of bags. he had over ten rifles. and they were tilt style so they had lots of -- military style so they had lots of ammunition. there's no way the hotel would

breaking news... a mass shooting at a concert on the las vegas strip. breaking news with a mass shooting on the las vegas strip during a country concert last night. >> it's the worst shooting in u.s. history and they think the death toll may rise because well over 400 people are injured. 50 is the count that were killed in this hail of gun fire around 10:00 last night at a concert. there are police officers off duty and maybe on duty that were and the shooter killed himself. we just found that out this morning. he was in a he tell room at the mandalay bay on the 32nd floor. by the time the s.w.a.t team got

to him, he had killed himself. >> the death toll the expected to climb. at least 50 right now. there were 22,000 people in attendance at the route 91 harvest country music festival. we're waiting on more information about the shooter. what was his motive and why did he do this. more on the search of the gunman's home. >> the gunman lived in mesquite, nevada, about 80 miles from the las vegas strip. they have a search warrant. but going through his home is going to be a slow process. and that came out from a news conference about ten minutes ago. the reason why it's going to be a very slow process and here's video from the scene. just chilling. they are fearful that his home could be set up with possible

explosives. they have to take that into consideration. it will take a long time before they can make entry to find possibly other weapons or a note describing the motive behind the shooting. a little bit more information on this as well. they have cleared marilou danley. after the shooting, they were desperately serlging for her believing she could possibly be connected to the shooter and connected to the shooting. but they have tracked her down and they believe she is out of the country and since then she has been cleared of any connection to the shooting. they believe that the shooter used her identification in some form to carry out the shooting. stephen paddock is 64 years old and they believe he was at the mandalay bay since september 28th. he had at least ten rifles in the room. they're not sure how he told the guests, the people who go into your room to clean the rooms,

why they were not allowed to go inside. that's part of the investigation. >> and we're learning they killed himself. authorities used explosives to make entry into the room. they believe that he shot and killed himself. now there is information out there looking for stephen paddock, some video, anything, any tips. the fbi is taking information and calls from the public. it's a very easy number for anybody with information to call. it's 1-800-call fbi. the fbi is helping the local authorities and housing the information and working in conjunction with the las vegas police department. the number is 1-800 call fbi. the authorities are now at stephen paddock's home about 80 miles from las vegas in

mesquite, nevada. they do not believe he had an extensive criminal history. i was listening to an fbi specialist. he said that for him to ask for a high floor, in this case the 32nd floor, would not stantd p stand out because a -- stand out because a lot of people would get rooms facing a concert area. so a request for a high room would not stand out for them to question the motive. another thing they want to look into is how he got all of those rifles into his room without anyone noticing. >> something else that come to go mind is isis put out a video o in may calling for a lone wolf shooter in las vegas. you have to wonder if there is a terrorism connection forit's someone with mental issues or do -- or inflict it's someone

with mental issues or domestic terrorism. round after round went off. >> it's such awe chaotic scene even this morning. a lot of people around the country with friends and relatives in las vegas don't know if they're okay. the red cross has this hot line for you to call if you're wondering about someone. 866-535-5654. call the number on your screen and they will rye to get some help to see if the person you're looking for is okay. >> and if you're friends with them on facebook, they have their sift check for the las vegas incident where people will check they're safe. that could be another way to check on loved ones. >> we're getting more and more video in because of the 22,000

people. some of them continued to roll cell phones after the band ran off the stage. this is a shot of cell phone video after the first shots are fired. is singer didn't stop. he didn't know what was going on. then he realized ffs gun fire. -- it was gun fire. everybody started running. i'm reading through witness accounts and we're running sound from accounts this morning. one person said people just kept dropping and dropping. one person dropped just feet away from us. the gun shots seemed to be coming from everywhere. and they said had we stopped and helped them, we might have been shot too. people didn't know what to do. people were helping others and people were making a massive run. >> here's what one woman had to say. >> i didn't really get injured. i have a scratch here from hopping over. this is all other people's blood. this is all blood splatter from

they don't have a motive. they have gone sto his house in mesquite, nevada, about 80 miles from the las vegas strip hoping to gain entr try to his home. they -- entry to his home. they say it will be a slow process to get into the home because there might be ex-prose -- explosives. we got our hands on a picture of him. he had been at the mandalay bay for several days. when they found him, he killed himself in his room as the police officers used explosives to break down the door. he had at least ten rifles with him. they don't know what they will find in the home. there was another person that they thought might have been connected to stephen paddock. her name is marilou danley. she has been contacted. she's actually out of the country and they believe that she is no longer a person of

interest, that paddock used her face -- dags to carry out the mass d identification to carry out the massacre. 22,000 people at the concert. stephen paddock has no criminal history that stands out to the authorities. they had a news conference about 40 minutes ago and said he had a citation a few years ago and that was handled by the dort system. there was -- court system. there was nothing that jumped out to them to indicate he would carry out something as violent at this. stephen paddock they believe was the lone gunman in this. 64 years old and right now authorities have a search warrant for his home in mesquite, nevada, about 80 miles from the strip. it will be a slow process.

many people reached out saying why isn't this called frichl e terrorism. according to the police department. >> they say it's easy for the general public to say this or that. but according to them to fall under the guidelines of terrorism before they start throwing that word out, it has to meet certain requirements. because the investigation is very early on, they're not calling stephen paddock a terrorist or this terrorism just yet. >> certainly the definition of terrorism is ever changing as we now surpass the pulse nightclub shooting as the deadliest mass shooting in u.s. history. >> when you terrorize people, it is one definition. and these people were like fish in a bowl. the gunman is 32 stories up in a different building and they had no idea where the gun fire was coming from. now do we change the way we do

breaking news... a mass started start back to our breaking news story. the aftermath of the massacre in las vegas at a country music festival. 22,000 are in that koud you krou you had see -- crowd you see. up above them on the 32nd floor of the mandalay bay hotel is a lone gunman 42 years old and he starts firing down into the crowd. it was a barrage that didn't stop for minutes, maybe up to 20 minutes, killing at least 50 people, injuring well over 400 people. and that rapid fire just kept coming. the police said he had more than ten rifles. and our experts say some may have been outfitted to be military style belt fed weapon that could just keep firing off shots again and again without the need to reload. >> not just anyone can purchase

those. but unfortunately, there are ways people learn how to convert the semiautomatic weapons to fully automatic. that's just an unfortunate thing of the the world we live n. it's been going on for years. >> here's more video of just before the shots broke out. this is jason aldean performing. it was 10:08. and then the gun fire. he didn't know what was going on. you can hear the gun fire. even the promoter thought it was pyrotechnics. then everyone realized it was shot being fired. so it took a while for aldean to run off the stage. the other bands also took korment and then the people in the audience -- cover. and then the people in the audience try to do take cover. >> we're just try to go put into

was coming from somewhere above. some people actually ran on to the runway of a nearby airport. people were jumping fences and hiding underneath cars. people were dropping down as they heard the gun fire erupt and then stop for a few seconds and then continue in this rapid firemaner. >> i'm standing right on stage right of the stage looking at jason and the band and jake owen was standing right next to me and a bunch of our friends. and there was a sound like it was pyro misfiring. why are they going off now? and then a few seconds later when it didn't stop, we realized what was happening. and the stound -- it was the sound and the shells coming down on the degree of care of the

stage. >> the stage manager talking about what it was like from the stage. and this is the gunman. 64-year-old stephen paddock. he is a las vegas native. he lives in mesquite. now they are going through the process of secures his home to go through it. they want to make sure it's not boobie trapped. they want to go through it for clues about why he did it. was it terrorism? did he have a message or motive? was had just mentally unstable? and it was obviously well thought auto. they say he checked into that hotel room three days prior and would have had bags full of these weapons. it took some thought. he used his roommates things in the process in the days before. they've talk to do her and

believe she had nothing to do with it. so a lone gunman shooting down and deciding to kill scores of people down below. >> his brother in orlando just interviewed and said he was shocked. there was no indication anything like this could be coming. was it terrorism? was it isis inspired? mental illness? there's a lot of questions. more than 50 people killed and 400 injured. let's hear from another witness. >> at least 20 minutes. and it may not have been that long. but you have no idea. and it just never stopped. just another round, another round, another round. and we just tried to help as many people as we could. when the bullets final stopped, with you try to do help as many people as we could. not until i went out into the audience area did i realize

low 80 here and there. a fairly strong north wind will be blows and that wind is partly why a red flag warning has been issued today and tomorrow. north bay hills, your warning expires 5:00 p.m. tomorrow night. east bay hill shs, 11:00 tonight is -- hills, 11:00 tonight is when your warning is over. strong winds at 35 to 55 miles per hour gusts. anything above 1,000 feet, you're rook looking at strong -- looking at strong winds. here's where temperatures go from this point on. through midweek, it doesn't change. by the end of the week, we'll start to see temperatures spike just a touch. could be looking at a possible low # 0 here and there. that's -- 90 here and there. that's your weather. a couple of trouble spots
