blocks east of jackson. police say about8;40 friday morning, officers responded to a disturbance call. inside the home, now surrounded by orange crime scene tape, they discovered an adult female and an adult male, both suffering from stab wounds. the female victim was pronounced dead at the scene, the male victim was transported to the hospital where he is listed in stable condition. family members waited across the street as homicide investigators gathered evidence and canvassed the neighborhood. it's not clear who called police, whether the man and woman were attacked by an intruder or by someone else. here is san jose police spokeswoman gina tepoorten. (catherine) a feud between two first graders at loma vista elementary in vallejo might have sparked a confrontation between adults that turned deadly. the fatal shooting happened on the 100 block of kemper street at thursday morning. a neighbor who heard the shot says the victim confronted the family at this house over insults directed at the mother of one of the children. that sparked a brawl, which ended with the 51 year old man being shot and killed. loma vista employees were reportedly told at a staff meeting that two first graders were called to the office the day before the shooting -- because of "your mama" insults. a woman dropping off her grandchildren at the school today says that adults should never respond with violence over a squabble between children.

whether the killing was instigated by a children's disagreement.... and haven't released any suspect information. (grant) one person is recovering after being stabbed near a playground in san francisco. it happened early yesterday morning at around three a-m...on the corner of ellis and hyde streets near the tenderloin children's playground. police say the man is expected to be okay. no arrests have been made and police do not have a detailed description of the attacker. (grant) a store owner is attacked by two men who stole dozens of designer perfumes in fremont. the attackers are still on the loose tonight. it happened wednesday afternoon in the fremont hub shopping center. police say the two people filled up store bags with over 80 bottles of fragrances. when the alarm went off...the manager confronted them and was then attacked. police

(catherine) we continue to honor the victims of the mass shooting in las vegas... family and friends are working on a memorial for stacee etcheber, the novato resident and wife of a san francisco police officer who was killed in the shooting.. (grant) many are still in a state of shock about her death and reminising about what a great person she was etcheber worked as a hairdresser in novato. kron fours terisa estacio joins us from novato tonight friends and clients rave about how much stacee loved her craft as a hairdresser - today i caught up with one of her clients who has known stacee for several decades and says she and so

many others in this community are crushed about her death. 2148 i still can't believe it sheila-merle johnson says she has known stacee etcheber for years - she used to do her hair and until her tragic death in the las vegas massacre - used to see her all of the time when she would come to the salon where stacee worked in novato. sheila. i still walk in the door, expecting to see her, laughing communicating with her clients in such a positive way. no one was in - but you could see flowers inside in loving memory of stacee. sheila- merle had stopped by to drop of a buddha statue she says she is concerned with the trauma everyone is feeling in dealing with stacee's death, as well as the shooting in general as the nation tries to cope with the unexplainable. sheila-merle. i was about to deliver a statue, of love and serenity. i worry about how violent everything has gotten. plans for a memorial are in the works, for stacee - the

wife of a san francisco police officer and devoted mother of two children. sheila-merle. i can't imagine how they are doing. so awful to lose someone so important in their lives. sheila-merle says she was unable to attend the vigil held in this commmunity for stacee, but that there was a suggestion that those who could not make it put a candle in their window and she said she did that, and so did many others. in novato, terisa esatcio (grant) tonight gun control

advocates are urging congress to re-evaluate the nation's weapons laws in the wake of the las vegas massacre. even the n-r-a says its open to exploring possible changes. but as kron four's white house correspondent mark meredith explains, the focus isn't all on federal laws. kathleen krepps with "moms demand action" is urging congress to quickly ban possession of the gun accessory known as "bump stocks"."this is just not acceptable to be in civilian hands" investigators say the gunman in sunday's las vegas massacre used bump stocks to fire more rounds faster. democrats and a growing number of republicans are supporting the proposed ban.republican congressman carlos curbelo of florida. this might be a small but a

very important step toward moving us to a more rational conversation about sensible gun policy in this country." the national rifle association says it supports a review of "bump stock" devices.but the group is also pushing lawmakers in a different direction.the n-r-a wants congress to make it legal to carry concealed weapons in every statethe n-r-a adds in a statement quote: "banning guns from law-abiding americans based on the criminal act of a madman will do nothing to prevent future attacks. survives being hit by a drunk driver. seven years, twenty surgeries and two amputations later... she is now doing what she can to help other amputees cope with losing a limb. mona patel set up a foundation to offer support services, resources, fitness programs and even provides home and automobile modifications... to amputees in san antonio, texas.

here's her story... man: i lost my leg in a work- related accident.woman: two years ago, i had sepsis. man: i was in a motorcycle accident. man: i got a staph infection, and mrsa came in.mona patel: once we lose a part of our body, there are just so many questions. will i ever be able to work again? how will i take care of my children?woman: i've only been an amputee since december. it's strange to learn how to walk again - it's a new world. mona patel: the power of peer support - it's tremendously invaluable - and that's what we do for each other here. i think the big catalyst of me doing what i do is because i lived it. age 17, i was struck by a drunk driver. i flew up about 12 feet and then he pinned me between his car and a metal railing. it feels a little tall.i vowed that, once i got back on my feet, i would start a support group.woman: i hit a really rough patch after and went through a lot of self-doubt and uhmona patel: anywhere from 30 to 60 amputees get together once a

thursday that two first graders were called to the office the day before the shooting because of "your mama" insults. a woman who lives across the street from where the killing took place says she'd never the two families argue before, and thinks the whole situation is just sad.kids are kids but adults need to be adults and not talk with a gun. had they not had a gun maybe they would just have had a fist fight and nothing like this would have happened today so a lesson to learnvallejo police would not substaniate that the killing was instigated by a children's disagreement, citing the ongoing investigation.police have not made an arrest in this case and have yet to release any suspect information.maureen kelly kron4 news (steve) in the south bay... a high school teacher has been placed on administrative leave after being arrested for stealing at a mall.(steve) 46-year-old tom tran was arrested on thursday for stealing two coach bags from a store earlier this year. tran was a teacher at mount pleasant high school.

(2-shot/steve) two people were stabbed, one fatally this morning in san jose.(2- shot/catherine) it happened on the 25-hundred block of story road on the city'seast side. kron four's rob fladeboe reports that police haven't said much yet about what happened.. for much of the day homicide investigators could be seen coming and going from a home here on the 25-hundred block of story road, a couple of blocks east of jackson. police say about8;40 friday morning, officers responded to a disturbance call. inside the home, now surrounded by orange crime scene tape, they discovered an adult female and an adult male, both suffering from stab wounds. the female victim was pronounced dead at the scene, the male victim was transported to the hospital where he is listed in stable condition. family members waited across the street as homicide investigators gathered evidence and canvassed the neighborhood. it's not clear who called police, whether the man and

big story tonight. investigators still do not have a motive for the for the deadly las vegas shooting.. they're digging into stephen paddock's background looking for any possible clues. today we learned that paddock bought a thousand rounds of tracer ammunition from a private seller....and met the person at a gun show in phoenix. tracer bullets can light up the path of fired bullets so shooters can check their aim. the bullets were bought a month ago. ( catherine ) in the bay area... family and friends are working on memorial service for the las vegas victims. among them... stacee etcheber. ( steve ) she is the wife of a san francisco police officer and worked as a hairdresser in novato. kron 4's terisa estacio spoke to some of those who knew her best... and joins us live from novato tonight. she says many of them are still in shock over what happened. this is very tough time for those who were friends and clients of stacee etcheber, a former client i talked with today says it is nearly impossible to imagine stacee

(catherine) bart has been hit with a big fine by california over the death of two workers. the transit agency is going to have to pay 220-thousand dollars for a 2013 accident near the walnut creek station. the two men were inspecting the tracks when a train hit them... both had their backs to the train which is a violation of safety rules. this is the second time bart has been fined over the deaths. cal-osha also penalized bart... a decision that's being appealed. the deaths happened in the middle of a strike by bart employees. ( steve ) lower commute times are expected next week

with the opening of express lanes on interstate 680. the lanes will run from walnut creek to san ramon and anyone willing to pay will be able to use them. carpoolers, buses, motorcycles and clean air vehicles will be able to use the express lanes for free if they have a fastrack-flex, solo drivers will have to pay a toll there's a minimum price of 50 cents for each zone so at the time of lowest demand, anybody traveling through the entire corridor would be paying 1 dollar but as the congestion increases so does the toll price. ( steve ) the lanes will officially open monday at 5am they will be open every day from 5 to 8pm. ( steve ) drivers mights notice a little smoother ride in oakland. the city says it has repaired nearly 28- hundred potholes over the past

three weeks. by the end of the year, city plans to have filled in at least 20-thousand potholes. that will easily eclipse the number of potholes patched last year. the city says it filled almost 18- thousand. the money for the project comes from a transportation measure passed by voters last november.
