(marty) people in the north bay are anxious to return home -- or start the rebuilding process. as 10-thousand firefighters are now battling the wildfires. (marty) good morning, i'm marty gonzalez. here is the latest information on the wildfires. 40 people have

died in the fires. there were calmer winds overnight and there are no new manditory evacuation orders. the latest update from the sonoma county sheriff is that they have found three more bodies. that brings the number of dead there to 22. in napa county two more bodies were found in a home... the total there now is six dead. the number of structures and homes destroyed stands at 57-hundred. in santa rosa alone... more than 28-hundred houses have been wiped out by fire. (marty) you're looking at cal fire's map of the north bay fires... here's the latest. cal fire tweeting at about 6:40 this morning that the atlas fire in napa and solano counties has burned more 51-thousand acres and is now 56-percent contained. the nuns fire in sonoma county has burned more than 46- thousand acres and is 10- percent contained. the tubbs fire in napa county has burned over 35-thousand acres

and is 50-percent contained. and in sonoma county...the pocket fire has burned over 11- thousand acres and is 15- percent contained. (marty) the newest evacuation advisory is in santa rosa. fire officals are asking people who live in the area shown here to leave. that will help in the firefighting efforts. but, at this time... lives are not in immediate danger. also... we have heard an area near coffey park is no longer under a mandatory evacuation order. we have the latest information up right now on kron4 dot com. the atlas fire destroyed more than 100 homes in the silverado resort area of napa. this was bill and janice mathis' home... the three bedroom, three bath home reduced to ashes. napa county search and rescue teams are meticulously combing through debris. the silverado resort escaped major damage... but strong winds downed power lines all over the grounds. since the

fire broke out a week ago, over 300-thousand customers have lost power. but as of yesterday, power has been restored to over 90-percent of areas. janice mathis/ napa county: "in this moment, i'm realizing you don't put your boots on and your gloves on and go sift through stuff. there's nothing to sift through."> (marty) at least four people have died as a result of the atlas fire so far. california's two u-s senators were in sonoma county saturday... for a first hand look at the fire damage. all three say they are stunned by the devastation and want to do what they can to help the victims. kron four's charles clifford has more from santa rosa. natssaturday afternoon, governor jerry brown along with u.s. senators dianne feinstein and kamala harris, were given a tour of and briefing on fire fighting efforts across the region. sot this is truly one of the greatest if not the greatest tragedy that california has ever faced.sotit destroys subdivision, it destroys wild places, it shows no favoritism, it just moves.sot and it highlights the danger that fires present. it's unpredicatable. it's not

logical in the way that it burns.the senators also said they would work to help those who have lost their homes, mainly through beefing up fema resources.sotthe dollars have to come. sotthere is a bill right now in the us senate, the wildfire disaster fund act, if you can believe it wildfires are not considered natural disastesr for the purpsose of fema funding. so there is some work being done. the trio also reminded everyone that these fires are far from over and that safety needs to come first.sotpeople have to be on guard and if youre asked to evacuate, please do.sotif people are told to move they need to do so. take it seriously. this is just part of the dangers that we face. (marty) an act of bravery in napa valley is gaining noteriety on social media. kron 4's ella sogomonian has the story of two men and their bulldozers... who did their part to save hundreds of homes. as soon two locals saw flames from the windows of their napa valley homes sunday morning they headed for the hills armed with only bulldozers. sot: dan wynn, bulldozed fire break to save homes// "these are the lines we made to save that neighborhood right there." this is video of eli ponce and dan wynn who for six days bulldozed a fire break 4 miles long directing the fast moving nunns fire away from the browns valley neighborhood. sot: ella sogomonian, napa valley// "and you can imagine a really big challenge out here is the steep hilly terrain and these guys were in bulldozers in the middle of the night encircled by flames and smoke which made it really difficult for them hard to

north bay have caused many to lose everything. kron 4's j-r stone visited with some of them. the video coming from the north bay this week has been nothing short of devastating. monday we were there as the hilton hotel in santa rosa burned. hours earlier and a quarter of a mile away near coffee park we were broadcasting on facebook live shortly after eric schieberl learned that his house had burned to the ground.sot schieberl's neighbor feared the worst but upon arriving back to his homelearned that it had survived. coming a matter of feet from being destroyed by fire.sottuesday new evacuation orders were

given in the oakmont area of santa rosa. most there evacuated, some refused to leave. sotwe were on the frontlines as firefighters in oakmont worked to put out flames near homes in the area. unfortunately at least two homes up in the hills of oakmont burned to the ground. many left in shock wondering what to do next.sot just have to start over i guess ( marty ) ( marty ) the city of santa rosa has launched a web page where people can look up their homes and see if they survived the fire. there is a link to this map on our

( marty ) an evacuation advisory issued for those living off highway 12 near pythian (pithy-nn) road forced many to leave their homes. kron four's philippe djegal spoke with fire fighters and an evacuee who stayed behind to protect his home. nats- fire fighters watch in horror before heading in for battle... as smoke billows from the mountains north of highway 12... near sugar loaf ridge state park...nats- fire crews from across the state, many pulled from the nunes fire, rushed into the danger zone, that just hours earlier was issued a mandatory evacuation.rob edgar- "i'm actually staying at home -- i didn't leave." just as rob edgar says he was starting to feel like the worst was over... his home is again, in the line of fire. he says flames were shooting from the mountain, when he and his family were forced out of bed

at around 2-30 in the morning. rob edgar/lives near fire- "all of a sudden -- it was all of a sudden: lights, sirens, sheriff's, uh, highway patrol firemen banging on our doors, sirens going off, telling us to evacuate. them coming to the door, coming in our backyard, telling us to get out." his wife and three of his kids evacuated safely... while he and his youngest son stayed behind, stocking up on water to use to keep his house wet, and hopefully prevent it from burning to the ground.rob edgar/lives near fire- "it was white smoke and it was small when we went to bed, and uh, yeah, it was a shock -- absolute shock." by mid-afternoon -- cal fire says the fire had grown to 300 acres. in the thick of it... staged near homes surrounded by woods... fire fighters covered rooftops with foam to protect from flamesnats- rick crawford/lafd- "we have several air tankers, ground resources, dozers, um, and several airplanes -- fixed-winged aircraft." a 747 made several passes, dropping fire retardant on the wind-driven fire and the fire fighters themselves. some neighbors who left the area, left their sprinklers on as a last line of defense. and,

more about some of the people killed in the northbay firestorm. kron4's maureen kelly reports that a couple who recently celebrated their 50-year wedding anniversary died in their santa rosa it's really hard because i just saw him at church and it's just hard to imagine that we won't see him again.members of the resurrection catholic church in santa rosa say leroy

and donna halbur were pillars of their communtiy.both were 80 years old, married fifty years and the parents of two sons and had two grandchildren. leroy helped found the sonoma county branch of the catholic charity st. vinicent de paul. he would give you the shirt off his back.a midwesterner with a dry sense of humor, leroy also volunteered as an usher at the church and would always help out during their big festival.he would be out there with the best of them putting up tables and structures, if you needed him he was there and he did it with a smile on his face.those who knew donna halbur say her health had been failing in recent years. she's described as being very creative, welcoming and supportive.i remember donna as being very encouraging of pursuing your dreams especially women and especially in the churchthe two were killed here at their angela drive home in the larkfield area of santa rosa

neighbors are grateful for the quick actions of a man who saved their home on rincon avenue in santa rosa. they say he put his body and life on the line in doing so. his neighbor is forever thankful for his efforts. ( marty ) this is the first time the man ever did something like this. when he lived in mexico, he lost his house to a fire. neighbor's say

they will rebuild again. ( marty ) we have seen a lot of people making donations to help the fire victims. and some of the evacuees got a special treat in santa rosa. celebrity chef guy fieri showed up at the county fairgrounds and started doping what he does best. fieri lives in the area and brought an oven and smoker to cook for the evacuees. he estimates they made about 12-hundred lunches and put together another 15-hundred meals for dinner. fieri says people are stepping up from all over to help out. ( marty ) fieri plans to stay through the weekend and cook even more meals. ( marty ) if you want to help the fire victims one way you can do so is by making a

more about some of the people killed in the northbay firestorm. kron4's maureen kelly reports that a couple who recently celebrated their 50-year wedding anniversary died in their santa rosa home. it's really hard because i just saw him at church and it's just hard to imagine that we won't see him again.members of the resurrection catholic church in santa rosa say leroy and donna halbur were pillars of their communtiy.both were 80 years old, married fifty years and the parents of two sons and had two grandchildren. leroy helped found the sonoma county branch of the catholic charity st. vinicent de paul. he would give you the shirt off his back.a midwesterner with a dry sense of humor, leroy also volunteered as an usher at the church and would always help out during their
