thousand acres, and it is 70-percent contained. and the pocket fire burning north of geyserville in sonoma county has burned nearly 12-thousand acres and is just 40-percent contained this morning. in total, firefighters are battling 16 large fires across the state burning more than 217-thousand acres. (grant on cam) danger to residents and to those who are fighting the flames... the highway patrol is investigating a rollover crash that killed the driver of a water tank truck this morning. it happened around 6-30 am on oakville grade near yountville. chp says the driver was headed down the steep road to refill the water tanks when the truck went down

mere shadows of what they once were right now, there is an all out effort to locate the dozens missing - (estacio reporting) it is grim and harsh work. these search and rescue workesr tasked with the dreadful job of going through the ash to locate missing mothers, fathers, aunts uncles loved ones still missing after the tubbbs fire ripped through neighbors here in santa rosa. this crew, from all over the bay area carefully looked into melted cars, behind crumbled walls that used to make up homes. shirlee zane. it is very troubling times. shirlee zane is a sonoma county supervisor and former mental health specialist - she says now is the time to offer as much

campassion as possible to those awaiting word about missing family members and friends. zane. the emotions are raw, just listen. sonoma county sheriff. the numbers are down but still we have 88 missing - anyone reported, we are taking seriously and putting into a count. sonoma's sheriff says they won't stop deploying these teams until every missing person is accounted for - besides crews - dogs were also brought in to help with trying to go through each and every home to make sure no one is left behind. (steve) we just leaned moments ago... an evacuation order for circle oaks and wooden valley in napa... has been lifted. also am mandatory evacuation for the berryessa highlands community has just been lifted. the evacuated area was at state highway 128 from silverado trail... to the napa county line at monitcello dam. access to berryessa highlands is either sage canyon road or the winters area. pg&e crews are still in the area restoring service. people returning home should stay clear of electrical wires on the ground. (vicki) the mandatory evacuation order in effect for the city of calistoga - has now been reduced to an advisory. this means people can return home - but, should be ready to leave at a moment's notice. there is some information residents need to know before returning to their homes. if the evacuation order is lifted, only people who live in that area are allowed into their neighborhoods. there will be registration locations where you can get a re-entry pass, but you must have a form of i-d. you also must wear protective clothing and closed-toe shoes before going to your property. a re-entry kit will be provided for people who want search their properties and asses damage. debris bins and support services will be available in each neighborhood. insurance

company is getting an injection of money that may help it stay afloat. the movie and t-v studio announced today that it's negotiating a deal with investment company colony capital. weinstein officials say it involves a potential sale of all or a significant portion of the company's assets. a sexual misconduct scandal involving co-founder harvey weinstein has dragged the company down for almost two weeks. the board fired him in october after the new york times detailed a decades- long pattern of alleged harassment. ( steve ) let's get you update now on the firefighting effort. we are seeing progress tonight... cal fire says the massive atlas fire has burned more than 51-thousand acres in napa and sonoma counties. it is 68- percent contained. the pocket fire in sonoma county has burned close to 12- thousand acres .. it is 40- percent contained.( pam ) the 'nuns fire' ... which is off highway- 12... has charred more than 48-thousand acres ... it is 50- percent contained. and things are improving with the 'tubbs fire' ... that is the fire that ravaged santa rosa. it has burned more than 36- thousand acres ... and is now 70-percent. from the fires remains at 41 tonight. 22 of the deaths are in sonoma county alone.( steve ) we have also learned the number of people reported missing has dropped. the sonoma county sheriff says 88 people remain unaccounted for. that's down from the initial reports of close to 2-thousand. in napa county... 14 people are still missing tonight. (estacio - i was with a team all day long, and it is a grim task being out here and the harsh reaaltiy of looking for deceased residents is certainly taking a toll on workers. te a water tank truck driver helping with the nuns fire is dead tonight following a crash. the california highway patrol says the truck went off the road on oakville grade off highway 29 near yountville this morning the driver was a private contractor helping cal fire. we know the driver was the only man in the truck at the the time. investigators say the truck was empty and headed downhill when it rolled over and went down an embankment. this is the first death we have heard of connected to the firefighting effort. the driver's name has not been released. ( pam ) evacuation orders have been lifted throughout the day in the north bay. and the list is long. the best way to stay on top of the areas where people are being allowed back in.... and where homeowners are still being

(pam) the last week has not been easy for firefighters in the north bay. many of them also had to evacuate and battle the fire in their own communities. the progress being made in fighting the fires is thanks to the work of thousands of firefighters and a little help from the weather.. fire crews feel good about the progress they are making... but the threat is not over. the wine country fires have even taken some veteran firefighters by surprise. (dominic polito/cal fire): "this is like a fire i've never seen before.... so without those winds we're doing a lot better." polito (pol-eat-o) says, with crews pushing the fire away from the communities and having more personell ... it is far less likely that the

across the canyon and came down to the trail. we are the second property here proceeding from south to north that appears to be burned. then it caught the mother vineyards and wineries. >> he showed me how the fire seemed to burn all around the tasting room taking a toll on the landscaping. the nearby winery was destroyed. propane tanks']ys exploded, and woods behind the winery are gone. >> yes, it looks like we got @hwell from th back coming towards the front. here we are standing in front of my tasting room where it is scorched all the way around. some of the trees are completely burned. zthe burning areas scorched. >> the 12 5"ú4acres of vines emerged from the firestorm pretty much intact.

the north ba welcome back to our continuing coverage of the north bay fire, we are live in the coffee park neighborhood of santa rosa. joshua, thank you for your time, number one, where do we stand right now? i know you have been focusing on the fires burn not guilty sonoma county >> we are making progress. the men working on the fire line, we are starting to see what we call black line on the fire, but still uncontrolled fire we are dealing with. >> the winds have ramped up. it seems to be calm now. is the weather cooperating. >> it is cooperating. we are out of red flag warnings. we have a little breeze, but the firefighters have to face the challenges of steep terrain and low relative humidity. the hills are very, very dry. yesterday we were about 15% and now we are in single digits.

that in combination with the terrain and increasing temperatures provides a significant challenge. >> the rain forecast, though not a lot, should help things thursday. >> it's going to help, depending on how much rain we get. recovery, and because there is not much moisture in the air, there is not much time for the fuel to absorb and retain the moisture. so there is very little recovery. >> i know you can't speak to the specifics, but there was a death, contractor working with cal fire had his tanker truck overturned. how much -- and not specifically with that situation because i know it's being investigated. how much is fatigue and making good decisions and doing your job now more than a week on these fires? >> it's a challenge, not specifically talking about the unfortunate passing of the gentleman today. we are toward the end of the fire season.
