started as an investigation into a fire arms violation. police tell us officers saw the suspect, in a suv, believed to be in possession of a firearm.police say the suspect then became aware officers were around. that is when an officer on a bicycle from the tenderloin district was hit by the tan suv.srgt. michael andraychak / san francisco policesot the suspect vehicle fled the scene the officer was transferred to zuckerberg general hospital the officer is in critical condition with significant injuries and is currently in surgerythe suspects tan or gold suv was located on the panhandle by buena vista park, on central and fell.but the suspect has not been caught. police also not releasing any information to us about who the person they are looking for.a shelter in place that was ordered for that area is now over.(justine)back here

destructive wildfires in california, coming under control .schools and shops reopening from calistoga to santa rosa.nice to get back in the swing of things.chopper nat sonoma county's sheriff describes his first aerial view of the fire damage.i could not believe the burn damage, how many houses have burned.different chopper nat in santa cruz county crucial air drops halted by an illegal drone this morning.if we do find that drone pilot he will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. (grant) let's begin in the north bay... recovery is ramping up in wine country and beyond... as firefighters say they've gotten the upper hand on the devastating wildfires. (catherine) thousands of people are returning home as evacuation orders are being lifted. and cal fire is updating the latest containment numbers. (grant) the atlas fire in napa and solano counties has burned just over 51-thousand acres and is 83-percent contained. it has destroyed 421 homes and businesses and is still threatening nearly one-

thousand more. == the tubbs fire has burned more than 36-thousand acres in napa and sonoma counties. it is 91-percent contained tonight. == the nuns fire is also in napa and sonoma counties. it has burned 54-thousand acres and is 80- percent contained. finally the pocket fire near geyserville has burned more than 12-thousand acres and is 63-percent contained. (catherine) as containment numbers are up... the search continues for those who are still missing in in the fires. (grant) kron four's terisa estacio was with a team today as they combed destroyed homes in santa rosa. she joins us live (estacio - live) i am here on channing lane, which is off wikiup drive in santa rosa there are 250 search and rescue voluteers currently here in the northbay of sonoma going home to home looking for the missing. (estacio - reporting)this search for the dead is not easy.. search and rescue teams look behind charred bbq's, melted washer and dryers, and garden ponds now full of ash they spread out

and slowly and methodically inch their way through each burned down home. it is very slow going and tough work. rob giordano, sonoma county sheriff. these are volunteers, it is really something, not paid to do this. i talked with sonoma county's sheriff wednesday about how they are trying to do all they can to find missing loved ones. giordano. we know it is important we are going as fast as we canwhile thre are 250 search and rescue members out here from agencies all over the bay area think of about this fact they are faced with going over nearly 102 thousand acres that burned that is slightly more than 3 times the size of san francisco. besides the grim nature of their work it is physically challenging as well all team members must wear layers of protective clothing, plus masks gloves and goggles the sun beats down and still they move on committed to (grant) rosa.

and much higher humidity too. the winds continue to blow and it's breezy in many areas now. the cooler temperatures and moist weather is helping fire fighters and there is even a chance of rain on the way. tonight we can expect increasing clouds with low clouds and fog moving into the bay and valleys. we can see the first storm of the season on the satellite picture. you can see it now moving out of the gulf of alaska. we could see some showers as early as the afternoon in the north bay before it spreads across the rest of the bay area overnight tomorrow. we could see a tenth to a quarter of an inch in the north bay with maybe more over the mountains. this of course is all good news since it will greatly lower the fire danger. we could see 3 inches of snow across the higher peaks in the sierra too. we can expect increasing clouds thoughout the day tomorrow with a chance of showers in the north bay in the afternoon. temperatures will be much cooler with most highs in the 50s and 60s. it's going to be up and down over

(grant) in the south bay...a wildfire in santa cruz mountains is burning near bear canyon road and bear creek road. right now it has burned more than 270 acres and is just 10-percent contained. (catherine) crews are fighting a stubborn blaze... but there was at least one other obstacle that forced aircraft fighting the fire to be grounded.(grant) kron 4's rob fladeboe is live in boulder creek tonight with the details. rob? nats (helicopters fight fire) helicopters like this one and other aircraft fighting the bear fire were grounded for about an hour on wednesday after a drone was spotted in the airspace over the fire. that not only led to fewer water drops, allowing the fire to spread that much more, but it put the aircraft, pilots and firefighters on the ground at risk.sot captain jordan motta/calfirethe drone did not however stop hand crews like this one from attacking the fire on the ground. another firefighter was injured, bringing to six the number of firefighters who have been injured, one of whom remains hospitalized with serious injuries. bear creek

another shooting on an east bay highway... one man was injured in castro valley...and the shooter is still on the loose. it happened around 9:00 last night on westbound 5- 80 between redwood road and strobridge avenue. officers say someone in a black sedan started shooting at a nissan on the highway. a 21-year-old was injured and taken to the hospital...he's since been released. police have not yet released a detailed description of the suspect or the car. (grant) new tonight at five... we are hearing from 49ers rookie linebacker reuben foster... for the first time... after he and a teammate were held at gunpoint in san francisco. foster and linebacker ray-ray armstrong say they were leaving the "love and propaganda club" in the union square section of the city...when they were confronted by two men early monday morning. they were able to escape unharmed -- taking refuge in a nearby hotel before calling police.

foster says he hopes his teammates can learn from this. (grant) in a statement, the 49ers say they are glad neither player was hurt -- and that both players are cooperating with a police investigation. (catherine) the nfl is 'not' changing it's national anthem policy to require players to stand during the anthem. n-f-l commissioner roger goodellsays he believes players who kneel are not trying to show disrespect for the flag. but he did say that the league still believes they should stand. goodell was talking about the issue after two-day meeting of n-f-l team owners in new york city.

he says there won't be any policy changes. the policy now simply says that players áshouldá stand for the anthem, but are not required to do so. (grant) breaking news we're following tonight... a san francisco police officer is seriously injured after being hit by a car. and we just learned in the last hour that the suspect is in custody...he was found on ellis street after a man-hunt. (catherine) it happened this afternoon on turk street between van ness avenue and franklin street. the officer was riding a bike when he was hit. (catherine) we're continuing to follow this story and will bring you more tonight at 6. ( grant ) much has been said about

for people who lost everything in the north bay fires extends to the east bay. a woman in concord says a home belonging to a friend in santa rosa burned to the ground. (grant) now she tells kron four's philippe djegal that she's having a garage sale to raise money for her friend and other victims. (philippe)nats- over the years... terry nelson has collected thousands of dollars worth of halloween decor.. but her kids are grown now, and the costumes and decorations, mostly stay in boxes packed in her garage.nats/terry- "and, these are some of the tombstones -- some of them light up." before the fires in the north bay ignited, nelson intended on having a garage sale at her home in concord to get rid of this stuff.terry nelson/fundrai ser- "but then when the fire happened, a couple of my friends -- personal friends were impacted." one of her friends survived without any damage to her property...

the other lost her home in santa rosa.terry nelson/fundrai ser- "and, um, she's got friends nearby that she's staying with, but she will need to re-establish another home." terry nelson says she's already personally made a 40-dollar donation to the relief efforts... but believes she can do more. the money she raises from the garage sale will go to trusted non-profit organizations in the north bay, that will distribute the money to victims.terry nelson/fundrai ser- "i'm hoping to raise at least $500, and if i get $500, out of that, i would get $190. that would be the maximum i would get. and the rest would go to the fire victims." money that will help people buy food, clothing and anything else they need to get back on their feet.terry nelson/fundraiser- "every little bit counts." so, if you're in need of halloween costumes or decorations... then come on down to 2277 galindo street in concord on saturday or sunday, between noon and three o'clock in the afternoon... meet terry in the back... she'll give you what you're looking for... and, most of the proceeds will go to a great cause. in concord, philippe djegal, kron four news.

lawsuit this week in superior court...they claim pg&e didn't properly maintain electric lines...or prune trees and vegetation. this is video of pg&e crews working in one of the burned out neighborhoods after the fire...restoring power. the couple suing lost their home in the tubbs fire -- and lived in coffey park. their lawsuit includes claims of negligence, property destruction, trespass by fire and violationof state safety laws. the theory that the fires began when high- voltage power lines were blown down in high winds -- and ignited dry grass and trees is just one of the things being considered.
