say they have stopped the forward spread of the northern california wildfires. this is video from the "bear" fire in the santa cruz mountains it's burned 300 acres in the boulder creek area. the fire is 15 percent contained ... although evacuation orders do remain in place. at least seven people have been hurt ... and one looting arrest has been made. in the north bay some major progress to report. here are the latest number from the fire lines... the 'atlas fire' in napa and solano counties is 84-percent

contained the 'tubbs fire' burning in sonoma and napa counties is 91-percent contained. the 'nuns fire' also in napa and sonoma counties is 80- percent contained. and the 'pocket fire' burning north of geyserville in sonoma county is now 63-percent contained. (robin) the death toll in the northern california wildfires has risen to 42. in sonoma county.... 50 people remain missing... in napa county there are eight people unaccounted for.search and rescue teams are in santa rosa -- going through the debris of burned homes. it is a slow and difficut process ... many of the men and women are volunteers. for those waiting to learn the fate of their loved ones -- the sonoma county sheriff had this message there are 250 search and

rescue team members from agencies across the bay area. they are faced with going over nearly 102 -thousand acres. ( james )and we have learned 42-thousand residents in sonoma county ... whose homes were ánotá destroyed by the fire ... have returned home. many had been forced to leave by the tubbs fire.... traffic has been an ongoing issue - partly because of road closures that remain in effect. ( james ) while life is getting back to normal for some... for others it will be a long road to recovery. several schools were destroyed in the fire ... including the hidden valley satellite school in santa rosa. kron4's charles clifford has more on what's next for those students. natsas the tubbs fire tore through large swaths of santa rosa last week, it damaged homes, businesses and several schools.cardinal newman high school along old redwood highway suffered severe damage. losing its library, 20 classes and the main office.at least two other schools in santa

rosa were a complete loss. very little of k-12 redwood adventist academy remains standing. the staffs there are now trying to find a temporary location for the 128 students enrolled at the school.another campus lost to the fire is the hidden valley elementary satellite school, which sits along parker hill road. . just a mile or so away from the main hidden valley campus. santa rosa city school has said that all 82 students from the satellite school will be able to move over to the main campus, if that works for the parents. sotoh, very scary.leslie brockman has three grandchildren who attend hidden valley elementary. . including 5 year old olive here. . she says the past week has been tough on everyone and that the damaged and destroyed schools are a heavy loss. she says she's ok with the extra kids moving into olive's school.soti think that's great. if they have room. great. sotif they have to squeeze together that's fine. happy to do whatever we can.finally, santa rosa city schools has also said they are working on setting up counseling and support for students and be having a tough time aftermath of in santa rosa, kron 4 news.

(robin) state senator jerry hill is warning that he will try to break up if it played a role in causing the fires. he has been pushing to reform the utility company since the 20-10 san bruno explosion that killed eight people and destroyed dozens of homes. for its role in that tragedy ... state regulators fined p-g-and-e... one-point-six billion dollars. ( james ) the california state bar association has set up a hotline to provide legal aid to fire victims. private and public attorneys will help victims through a variety of legal problems.. among them -- landlord and tenant disputes, medical and property insurance, and home repair contracts. there are separate hotlines for fire victims in napa and sonoma counties. spanish and chinese- speaking attorneys are also available. no criminal charges were filed after a deadly officer inovled shooting in san francisco. it led to the abrupt resignation last year of police chief greg suhr. jessica williams was shot and killed by police in may of last year. police say sergeant justin erb shot her after she drove toward him in a car that had been reported stolen. the shooting came at a time of rising protests over police shootings ... including the death of mario woods in the bayview district in 20-15. the district attorney's office says the evidence does ánotá support that sergeant erb's acted unreasonably. public defender...jeff adachi criticized the decision... he says the decision sends the wrong message to our citizens and the police. maryland has now been arrested by police. officials say radee labeeb prince killed three people and wounded two others yesterday at the remodeling business he worked at. prince then shot an acquaintance in the head at a car dealership in delaware. the man survived and was able to help police track down prince. ferguson/manager, friends of the alameda shelterthey contacted us late sunday night saying they could definitely help pulling some animals out. we talked to napa county animal shelter and they had taken in over a hundred emergency boardings the day before so they needed space cleared so we rushed up there in 3 vans 3 employees full of cratesmore than a dozen animals from napa and sonoma have moved to alameda.11 dogs and four cats that are hoping to make the east bay their permanent home.steve ferguson/manager, friends of the alameda shelterwhat we did is we took adoptable pets. that were already up for adoption. this freed room in the shelter so they could take more emergency boardings. meanwhile volunteers reached out to foster homes to take in some of the more than 100 animals that live here.. so they could create space for the new comers. carla thornton/spokersperson, friends of the alameda shelter the shelters help each other out. anytim that one shelter has gotten so full that it needs some animals pulled, we try to help out and same goes for themthe napa fires were close by and we wanted although we are a small shelter to do our part. ( james ) an east bay woman is raising money for north bay fire victims.(robin) she will be having a garage sale at her home in concord this weekend. terry nelson is selling thousands of dollars worth of halloween costumes and decorations. she is keeping a small amount of the profits to cover some costs. but most of it is going to north bay non-profit groups that are helping fire victims nelson says two of her friends were impacted by the fires. one of them lost her home.

( darya ) a san francisco police officer on the bicycle beat is in critical condition this morning... after being hit by an s-u-v. the officer had surgery and is in the intensive care unit. this all happened just before 12:30 yesterday afternoon... between van ness avenue and franklin street. the suspect drove away from the area. the s-u-v was eventually found near buena vista park. then at 3:30... the suspect was found and taken into custody on ellis street in the tenderloin. police have not identified the driver... but witnesses did. he was arrested a matter of blocks from where the hit and run happened.

( james ) a petaluma woman is behind bars this morning áagainá ... she's accused of stealing mail and committing fraud against santa rosa fire evacuees. katie lehnhard was arrested on monday after a mail theft victim reported fraudulent charges on her bank account. using a cancelled check ... police tracked down lehnhard and found she had credit cards and checkbooks belonging to santa rosa fire evacuees staying at local shelters. lehnhard was released... but arrested again on wednesday after police found two more victims. ( james ) 42- thousand people from sonoma county... whose homes were ánotá destroyed by the fire.. have returned home. the tubbs fire forced many to leave. but traffic has been an ongoing issue - partly because of road closures that remain in effect. arrives in puerto rico. a florida company is setting up power turbines on the island. they're expected to produce enough power for up to 300- thousand homes. puerto rico is still recovering from hurricane maria. most of the island's three-point-four- million americans are without power. ( darya ) a san francisco police officer on bicycle patrol is in critical condition this morning... after being hit by an s-u-v. the officer had surgery and is in the intensive care unit. this all happened just before 12:30 yesterday afternoon... between van ness avenue and franklin street. the suspect drove away from the area. the s-u-v was eventually found near buena vista park. then at 3:30... the suspect was found and taken into custody on ellis street in the tenderloin. police have not identified the driver... but witnesses did. he was arrested a matter of blocks

( james ) a petaluma woman is behind bars this morning áagainá ... she's accused of stealing mail and committing fraud against santa rosa fire evacuees. katie lehnhard was arrested on monday after a mail theft victim reported fraudulent charges on her bank account. using a cancelled check ... police tracked down lehnhard and found she had credit cards and checkbooks belonging to santa rosa fire evacuees staying at local shelters. lehnhard was released... but arrested again on wednesday after police found two more victims. ( darya ) several students are now fear for their safety after a year old racist video has surfaced on social media. this is all happening in utah. the video shows five female students speaking racial slurs. and when another african american student spoke out against the video by reposting it with the caption " i thought people were better then this," he too began recieving threats. the school district is investigating ( james ) toyota is recalling nearly 350 thousand sienna minivans worldwide because they can shift out of the "park" position and roll away. the recall involves siennas from the 2005-2007 and 2009-2010 model years. toyota says the grease used in the shift lever assembly could transfer to other components causing them to work improperly. in particular the shifter can move out of "park" even if the driver isnt pressing the brake pedal.

(dave)a cold front remains on track to push through our region on thursday and thursday night, bringing our first widespread rainfall event of the season, along with cooler temperatures.

look for the greatest rainfall to be in the coastal ranges and across the north bay. along with cooler temperatures, breezy onshore winds can be expected through friday. dry conditions will return by friday and a warming trend is forecast over the weekend and into the first part of next week. temperatures are forecast to be well above seasonal averages during the first half of next week.

( darya ) some much-needed help arrives in puerto rico. a florida company is setting up power turbines on the island. they're expected to produce enough power for up to 300-thousand homes. puerto rico is still recovering from hurricane maria. most of the island's three-point-four- million americans are without power. ( darya ) a warnining to teachers, parents and school staffs... hackers are targeting school disctricts across the country. that is according to the u-s department of education. at least three states have been targeted. officials say hackers are asking schools to give them money... or the group will release stolen

private records. the hackers also included threats of violence... and shaming or bullying the children. in one case in montana ... a threateneing letter mentioned "sandy hook." law enforcement says they did not believe the threats... and that the attackers are áoutside of the u.-s. ( james ) take a look at this.... a food cart fire and explosion sends smoke through downtown portland. at least two food carts were destroyed. fueled by winds... the fire also burned down a tree and damaged at least ten cars that were nearby. fire crews say the fire started when an employee for one of the carts... poured fuel into a gas generator while it was still hot. they say the gas fumes ignited after making contact with the heat. two people were treated at the scene... but no one was seriously hurt. ( darya ) the nfl is 'not' changing it's national anthem

policy to require players to stand during the anthem. this after n- f-l commissioner roger goodell says he believes players who kneel are not trying to show disrespect for the flag. but he did say that the league still believes they should stand. goodell was talking about the issue after two-day meeting of n-f-l team owners in new york city. he says there won't be any policy changes. the policy now simply says that players áshouldá stand for the anthem, but are not required to do so.

people who take out pay-day loans. consumer advocates say the new regulations are intended to protect people from getting trapped into a cycle of debt. pay-day loans provide money for unexpected expenses. they usually have to be paid back by the borrower's next paycheck. under the new rules lenders will now be required to do basic background checks on loan recipients. they will check things like income levels living expenses and major financial obligations. the new regulations take effect in july of 20-19.
