(vici) an east bay high school temporarily put its curriculum on hold after two students were expelled for a racist display. it happened at moreau catholic high school in hayward. one student went through the alphabet and made a list of racist terms that started with each letter. then another student read some of those terms out loud in a classroom. today the school gave students a chance to express how they are feeling and share their own experiences on campus. the school also had its counselors and teachers available to meet with students throughout the day in addition to the morning discussions. (grant) the san francisco police officer who was ran over by a car remains in the intensive care unit....as we learn more about the man accused of hitting him.

50-year-old maurice johnson... faces multiple charges including attempted murder. officer elia lewin-tankel was working his bicycle beat when he was hit by a car on wednesday...after officers say the suspect realized police were tracking him. officer lewin tankel has undergone surgery and is at san francisco general hospital. maurice johnson made his first court appearance earlier today. he is being held without bail. (vicki) a man is dead after his car was stolen in san lorenzo....the thief is still on the loose tonight. 46-year-old james figueroa junior died this morning. the incident happened on thursday at around 5:30 in the morning....near the corner of via del sol and via paro. police say figeroa started his truck and went back inside his home. when he came out...figeroa found the man in

his car. police say figeroa tried to stop his truck from being stolen.... but was run over. police have not yet released a description of the killer or of the truck. the last two of eight prototypes for president trump's proposed border wall are taking shape in san diego. the prototypes form a tightly packed row of imposing concrete and metal panels...including one with sharp metal edges on top. companies have until thursday to finish the models. as crews worked...five people jumped a short fence in tijuana into the construction site and were immediately stopped by agents. officials say there have ben at least four other illegal crossing attempts at the site since work began late last month. the models cost the government up to 500-thousand- dollars each. her mother. police say haynes was an employee of the business when the incident happened. he was later arrested in his home. police have not received any other reports of haynes victimizing children. (vicki) san bruno police arrested two women in connection with a prostitution ring wednesday. it happened around six pm at an apartment on commodore drive near el camino real. xifeng (she-fung) yu and shu no zhang (jong) were arrested during an undercover investigation of the suspected brothel. police were already investingating the location following various complaints. the two women were arrested on suspicion of engaging in acts of prostitution. they were cited and later released. community in santa rosa ... was also severely affected by fire. . today, residents there were allowed back on the property to check the status of their homes. and, if their homes were still up, they were allowed to stay. the property manager says of the 233 units on the property... 66 mobile homes were destroyed. six others had to be red- tagged... and, eight others suffered some form of damage. in all, 80 homes were affected. one man, who says his home survived, believes the rebuilding process will be difficult... but says .. his neighbors will make it through this. michael costantini/neighbor- "be strong. this is going to take a long time for all of us to process. this is going to take a long time, but in the end, i think we're going to have a better park, uh, then we had before. this is a great place to live, and the thing that makes it great are the people." santa rosa police officers and members of the

u-s army national guard held checkpoints today... outside the orchard senior community... just to make sure everything went smoothly. but tomorrow, the mobile home park will be released back to the property owners... and, the check points will most likely be cleared. ( pam ) many of the fire victims in the coffey park neighborhood are coming home to realize ... very little was untouched by the fire.( steve ) kron 4's camila bernal spoke to a world war ii veteran and pioneer of the coffey park neighborhood who saw his home for the first time today. despite losing all his belongings, he's grateful and has hope for the future.

( steve ) the north bay firestorm tonight has the dubious distinction of being the most destructive wildfire in california history. cal fire posted this list showing the 20 worst fires to hit the state in terms of structures destroyed. the tubbs fire... which devastated santa rosa... is now at the top of the list. it surpassed the tunnel fire which is the official name given to the

1991 oakland hills fire. also on the list are the nuns fire, atlas fire and redwood valley fire. the redwood valley fire has killed eight people in menodicino county. ( pam ) we have seen bay area sports teams stepping up for the north bay firestorm relief effort. today, warriors' star- klay thompson announced his own fundraiser which is performance- related.

down. but the winds kicked up the embers .... and it erupted the next morning. the flames killed at least 25- people and destroyed thousands of homes. it took three days for firefighters to bring it under control. investigators never could pinpoint an exact cause. recovery in north county beginning in earnest witha rally of supporters for napa strong the tragic death of a serviceman continues to be controversial as the white house does battle with a congresswoman over a phone call

happening right now: oakland police are investigating a hit-and-run crash that sent a child to the hospital. the collision happened just before 1-30 this afternoon on 15th street near 8th avenue. there was a second crash reported at about the same time on foothill boulevard. police quickly tracked down the driver and arrested her. few details are available about the victim... but the child is in the hospital with major injuries and listed in critical condition at this hour. investigators say speed was a factor in the collision. (pam) in the east bay... darin white is now the permanent chief of the oakland fire department. white was sworn in by mayor libby schaaf today. he has served as interim fire chief for the last nine months. white assumed the position, after former fire chief teresa deloach- reed retired. deloach -reed came under pressure after the ghost ship warehouse fire last december which killed 36 people.
