(vicki) we have new video tonight from quadcopter four. this is from atlas peak road and westgate road in napa. large multi-million dollar homes once stood in this area. you can see how some homes were destroyed...oth ers were untouched.it just shows you how relentless and unpredictable the flames were as they tore through this neighborhood...and many others. (vicki) here's a closer look at a map of exactly where quadcopter was filming earlier today. again, it was at atlas peak road and westgate road. this is just one of the many areas that was destroyed by the fires. (steve) in the wake of the wildfire the demand for housing has increased exponentially in places like sonoma county. whole neighborhoods will have to be rebuilt from the ground up. (vicki) in the mean time the available housing stock is limited for those looking to rent or buy. kron4's haaziq madyun spoke to one sonoma county realtor who describes a bleak outlook for those trying to find a place

to live (pkgthat was the status of the availbale housing market in sonoma county prior to the north bay wildfire says mike kelly, a realtor in santa rosa. obviously the housing inventory situation is much worse now. kelly says there are a lot of variables at play here sounds like a lot of money to me, may sound like price gouging to some but kelly explains why that is not the case he says that is because many of the homes destroyed in the fire were valued at over a million dollars. he says those residents are used to a certain type of lifestyle. then there are homeowners displayed in the median price rangethen there are folks working in the service industry, they need housing as well

prosecution tries to build this murder case, brick by brick.(take pkg)the first witness of the day was a crime scene techniction who collected evidence the night of july 1, 2015 after 32 year old kate steinle was fatally shot in the back while walking on pier 14 with her father and a family friend.he showed a picture of crime tape around swivel chairs on the pier where they believed the accused, seen here in an earlier court appearance was sitting when he allegedly fired the fatal shot. under cross examination the csi tech admitted that he returned to the scene 2 days later because police discovered that he had actually been sitting in a chair further away from where kate steinle was shot. a gouge was found in the cement near there.where the bullet ricocheted before striking steinle.that bullet struck a place it was pointed and that was 78 feet away from where ms steinle waswe also heard from the officer who spotted ga

rcia zarate about an hour after the shooting near att park. the officer says he saw a man wearing clothes matcing the description ....locked eyes with himand the suspect gave him a deer in the headlights look, got up and started walking away. officer bryant says he pulled his weapon, fearing the suspect was still armed.but that garcia zarate didn't obey until second plain clothed officer arrived. he then cuffed him and put him in the back of his patrol car. under cross he told the public defender that he was not wearing gloves when he handcuffed the murder suspect and that it was 45 minutes before bagged garcia zarate's hands. attorney matt gonzalez says his client had only one particle of measureable gunshot residue on his hand when he was tested. even that particle is easily transferable when you have police with sidearms.there's been many studies where even the backseat of a patrol car

dramatic new details .. in the disappearance of sherri papini. the shasta county sheriff released today the 9-1-1 call from papini's husband along with new sketches of the two women she says abducted her nearly a year ago.papini reappeared on thanksgiving morning 140 miles away.her body was branded and beaten. (steve )her bizarre story generated plenty of questions. sheriff's deputies eventually said they did not believe it was a hoax.catherine heenan is here with the new information ... and new mysteries. catherine? families benefit from tax reform. members of congress say enhancing the child tax credit is a critical piece of the puzzle. our washington d.c. correspondent brie jackson has details from capitol hill. members of congress are working with the trump administration to piece together tax reform. assistant to the president ivanka trump wants to make sure the plan provides relief to families that we deliver real and meaningful tax relief to middle income americans lawwmakers including west virginia senator shelley moore capito say expanding the child tax credit is a critical step for working families.capito: how expensive it has gotten to raise children now. difficult for multi-children families to keep their head above water. we oughta recognize that through the tax code and give them more of a benefit by increasing the child tax code brie standup: the trump administration is pushing efforts to expand the child tax credit. but so far there are no details on the increase. south carolina senator tim scott says doubling the child tax credit could help single- mothers like his.tim scott: i can only imagine the power and

importance of this tax credit expanding beyond the 1,000 dollar level and going closer to the 2,000 dollar level lawmakers say they hope to pass a tax reform bill by thanksgiving that includes a boost for the economy and working families. in washington, brie jackson (vicki) the brother of las vegas gunman stephen paddock was arrested today for possession of child pornography. 59-year-old bruce douglas paddock was arrested in north hollywood this morning. police released this photo of him -- so any other potential victims could recognize him and contact them. the arrest warrant says he possessed more than 600 child porn images during a 2014 investigation. police say he was homeless and couldn't be found -- until he was recently tracked down at a nursing facility. the arrest came from an independent investigation -- and is unrelated to his brother's las vegas mass shooting. the national park service is considering a sharp increase in fees at its most popular parks. that includes the grand canyon... yosemite... yellowstone and zion.(vicki) the parks service is considering charging visitors seventy dollars per car for a weekly pass. that's up from the current 30 dollars. the higher fees would apply during the busiest months of the year. (steve) the proposal comes less than two years after many parks hiked their entrance fees. park officials say the potential increase would be used to help maintenance backlog and other projects. (vicki) in an effort to prevent package thefts... amazon is now launching a service that will let delivery people put packages right inside your home.(steve) amazon is calling the service "amazon key." people who want it will have to buy a

(vicki) a student in the east bay is arrested for bringing a áloaded gun to school. kron 4's lydia pantazes is at village high school in pleasanton with the details. (lydia)the arrest was made here at village high school in pleasanton on monday morning. (take map)the school is located on bernal avenue in pleasanton.school officials reported a student was possibly in possession of a concealed handgun on campus. when officers arrived they found the student was in possession of a loaded handgun. no other weapons were located.the student was immediately placed under arrest for possession of a firearm on school grounds, and was taken to juvenile hall. police aren't saying why the student had the handgun or what they planned to do with it.we spoke with students this morning about what happened. their suppliers' use of antibiotics in raw meat and poultry. the law was unanimously passed by the board of supervisors last week. officials say the law is to reduce the overuse of antibiotics by informing consumers about the practices behind the products they may buy. the law applies to grocers with at least one store in the city and at least 25 other stores anywhere in the world. smaller stores may participate voluntarily. a bay area family heartbroken ... after their elaborate halloween decorations were stolen from the front of their home.(steve) the decorations were not worth much money.. but they meant a lot to the family's young girl and the other neighborhood children. (vicki) kron4's charles clifford has the story. natsjoanne gomez fiske and her daughter haley love putting up halloween decorations outside their house here along lakes street in san francisco. there's spider webs, skulls, tombstones, and witches.sot it's gotten a little bigger each year. the neighborhood kids really like it.soti like dressing up but i also like the decorations.but this past monday morning, joanne came outside to find that most of their decoration were gone. . . someone had taken these witches, a ventriloquist and a skull. joanne has no idea who might have stolen them. she and haley are heartbrokensoti don't know who would do this. it's kind of like the grinch that stole halloween.soti mean, they are just things, but i really like decorating. joanne says that the stolen decorations weren't worth much, she's more upset because the neighborhood kids loved them. sotwhy would you take away things that bring little

it was a very happy homecoming for a group of senior citizens...forced to evacuate during the fire in santa rosa... all of them suffer from some form of memory loss. and the night the fires started raging, they all had to get out immediately. now, more than two weeks later, they got to go back to their care community. kron 4's justine waldman was at the emotional welcome back celebration last night. after two weeks away. the senior citizens at the vineyard at foutaingrove memory care.. finally returned home.to a champagne celebration!natsbig hugs welcomed all 17 of the residents back.the people who live here.. suffer from memory loss.making the trauma of the fire and its aftermath that much harder to process.sot it is amazing how we escaped it allcharlie king sot we just grabbed clothes these are the only shoes i have had for weeks

with the fire alarms blaring and flickering lights. maintenance worker hercules cuveas came to help his work family in the middle of the night.he and three caregivers, sensed the fires danger knew they had to get everyone out of harm's way.hercules cuveas / maintenance worker sot it was pretty rough some of them were startled they didn't know who i was but we did it it was awesomewith fire burning around them, he first took them to his church in santa rosa. they stayed until the flames threated them there eventually, some were moved to vineyards sister facility in sacramento.now they are back and reunited again.sot things are starting to get back to normal so it is a blessingsu the fire got so close to the building it burned the hillside just to the west of the building the flames got just inches away from a residents window.nat fansonly a few fans in the hallway blow out the lingering smell of smoke.the community is basically brand new, it just started caring for people in august.sot i am feeling so sad for the people who are suffering we didn't lose a thingsome cannot recall anything about the fire, evacuating, being away or even understand where they are now. while a few know just how special this day is sot that is the other thing i feel so luckybecause there is no place

eight and younger have their own tablet device. that's according to a report from the nonprofit organization, common sense media. researchers surveyed nearly 15-hundred parents with children up to the age of eight. they found that 42-percent of those youngsters have some kind of tablet -- that's a sharp increase from 2013, when just seven-percent of young kids had their own device. the survey also found that the amount of time young children spend looking at screens has tripled in the past four years. researchers said young children now spend an average of 48 minutes a day looking at device screens. that's more time than they spend reading or being read to. however, the majority of parents -- 67-percent -- say their children's screen time improves their ability to learn. (steve) happening now... authorities are investigating an alleged rape at stanford university. it's is the third sexual assault reported in less than a month. and it is also a disturbing trend on college campuses across the country. kron 4's rob fladeboe takes a close look at the numbers for three bay area universities. the stanford university department of public safety confirms it is investigating the alleged rape reported just after midnight on monday. a spokesman said victim and suspect are known to each other. police have reportedly investigated at least three other rapes on campus this year. one in each of the months of july, september and october.(graphic)according to statistics compiled through compliance with the jeanne clery disclosure of campus security act, in 2016 there were a total of 45 sexual offenses reported at stanford, including 33 rapes.stanford professor michele dauber, is leading the effort to recall judge aaron persky over what many believe to be the far too lenient sentencing of stanford

everyone has been through this difficult time. she says her fourth grade teacher opened up his home to her and her family while they try figure things out. kristin johnson/fire victim- "i pass by it a lot, because i have friends up the road that we go visit. and, um, and, just running errands, and its terrible. i mean, my neighborhood all the way up the road, for a little ways, its just, it's gone." most of what burned in the fire, kristin says, can be replaced... except for some of her grandmother's antiques that she passed down to her. and, this... this 1977 camero. her husband's prized possession. he tried to get it out the night of the fire... but the battery was dead and the car burned up.nats- "this is my house right here. this is it. i cannot believe this sáát." that's kristin you hear in the video as she passed by her house in a fire engine, watching it go down. she kept working that night, and her crew helped save a few other homes. her husband and three-year-old son made it out in time, and were not injured. kristin's pets

a student was arrested for bringing a áloaded gun to school. the arrest happened monday morning at village high school. the school is located on bernal avenue. school officials reported a student was possibly in possession of a concealed handgun on campus. officers later found the student with a loaded handgun. the student was immediately placed under arrest for possession of a firearm on school grounds, and was taken to juvenile hall. we spoke with students this morning about what happened.

found on the bart tracks last month...(pam) the pit bull-- appropriatly named "bart"-- has been adopted. according to bart officials... the dog has been adopted by a rider. the dog was caught by bart police after holding up morning commuters. after a check up... "bart" went to the oakland animal shelter... where he was put up for adoption. staff says ... "bart" is very friendly... loves giving kisses and getting belly rubs. they say, his new owner will get lots of cuddling.
