rcia zarate about an hour after the shooting near att park. the officer says he saw a man wearing clothes matcing the description ....locked eyes with himand the suspect gave him a deer in the headlights look, got up and started walking away. officer bryant says he pulled his weapon, fearing the suspect was still armed.but that garcia zarate didn't obey until second plain clothed officer arrived. he then cuffed him and put him in the back of his patrol car. under cross he told the public defender that he was not wearing gloves when he handcuffed the murder suspect and that it was 45 minutes before bagged garcia zarate's hands. attorney matt gonzalez says his client had only one particle of measureable gunshot residue on his hand when he was tested. even that particle is easily transferable when you have police with sidearms.there's been many studies where even the backseat of a patrol car

(vicki) kron4's charles clifford has the story. natsjoanne gomez fiske and her daughter haley love putting up halloween decorations outside their house here along lakes street in san francisco. there's spider webs, skulls, tombstones, and witches.sot it's gotten a little bigger each year. the neighborhood kids really like it.soti like dressing up but i also like the decorations.but this past monday morning, joanne came outside to find that most of their decoration were gone. . . someone had taken these witches, a ventriloquist and a skull. joanne has no idea who might have stolen them. she and haley are heartbrokensoti don't know who would do this. it's kind of like the grinch that stole halloween.soti mean, they are just things, but i really like decorating. joanne says that the stolen decorations weren't worth much, she's more upset because the neighborhood kids loved them. sotwhy would you take away things that bring little

it was a very happy homecoming for a group of senior citizens...forced to evacuate during the fire in santa rosa... all of them suffer from some form of memory loss. and the night the fires started raging, they all had to get out immediately. now, more than two weeks later, they got to go back to their care community. kron 4's justine waldman was at the emotional welcome back celebration last night. after two weeks away. the senior citizens at the vineyard at foutaingrove memory care.. finally returned home.to a champagne celebration!natsbig hugs welcomed all 17 of the residents back.the people who live here.. suffer from memory loss.making the trauma of the fire and its aftermath that much harder to process.sot it is amazing how we escaped it allcharlie king sot we just grabbed clothes these are the only shoes i have had for weeks

eight and younger have their own tablet device. that's according to a report from the nonprofit organization, common sense media. researchers surveyed nearly 15-hundred parents with children up to the age of eight. they found that 42-percent of those youngsters have some kind of tablet -- that's a sharp increase from 2013, when just seven-percent of young kids had their own device. the survey also found that the amount of time young children spend looking at screens has tripled in the past four years. researchers said young children now spend an average of 48 minutes a day looking at device screens. that's more time than they spend reading or being read to. however, the majority of parents -- 67-percent -- say their children's screen time improves their ability to learn. courthouse when the person identified as kate steinle collapsed.then enhanced video shows video of a splash that the assistant district attorney says was the murder weapon. and a figure .identified as jose garcia zarate seen here in an eariler court appearance scurries off the pier.the defense attorney maintains that the weapon that killed steinle had been wrapped in rags when his client found it on the pier. he says garcia zarate didn't' know it was a gun and it went off when picked it up. bitea spokesman for the da's office says this case is being built brick by brick and they believe the jury will see the charge of murder is supported by the evidence presented to them. maureen kelly kron4 news.

(steve) happening now... authorities are investigating an alleged rape at stanford university. it's is the third sexual assault reported in less than a month. and it is also a disturbing trend on college campuses across the country. kron 4's rob fladeboe takes a close look at the numbers for three bay area universities. the stanford university department of public safety confirms it is investigating the alleged rape reported just after midnight on monday. a spokesman said victim and suspect are known to each other. police have reportedly investigated at least three other rapes on campus this year. one in each of the months of july, september and october.(graphic)according to statistics compiled through compliance with the jeanne clery disclosure of campus security act, in 2016 there were a total of 45 sexual offenses reported at stanford, including 33 rapes.stanford professor michele dauber, is leading the effort to recall judge aaron persky over what many believe to be the far too lenient sentencing of stanford

everyone has been through this difficult time. she says her fourth grade teacher opened up his home to her and her family while they try figure things out. kristin johnson/fire victim- "i pass by it a lot, because i have friends up the road that we go visit. and, um, and, just running errands, and its terrible. i mean, my neighborhood all the way up the road, for a little ways, its just, it's gone." most of what burned in the fire, kristin says, can be replaced... except for some of her grandmother's antiques that she passed down to her. and, this... this 1977 camero. her husband's prized possession. he tried to get it out the night of the fire... but the battery was dead and the car burned up.nats- "this is my house right here. this is it. i cannot believe this sáát." that's kristin you hear in the video as she passed by her house in a fire engine, watching it go down. she kept working that night, and her crew helped save a few other homes. her husband and three-year-old son made it out in time, and were not injured. kristin's pets

a student was arrested for bringing a áloaded gun to school. the arrest happened monday morning at village high school. the school is located on bernal avenue. school officials reported a student was possibly in possession of a concealed handgun on campus. officers later found the student with a loaded handgun. the student was immediately placed under arrest for possession of a firearm on school grounds, and was taken to juvenile hall. we spoke with students this morning about what happened.

"yea"> (pam) police are not saying why the student had the handgun or what they planned to do with it. pleasanton police and the district say, they have trained for scenarios just like this, which include recognizing suspicious activity and it. (steve) gun violence survivors and family members joined lawmakers on capitol hill...as democratic lawmakers announced a new bill to close loopholes in bacground checks. kron four's washingotn correspondent alexandra limon explains that the lawmakers introducing the bill admit it will be hard to pass but they say it is worth it. (nats)mccurtain county, oklahoma mother janie mccoy says she had nothing but questions when she was surrounded on a swing set with her six-month-old son.janie

mccoy: "in that moment, i did not want to fight. i had my son with me and if you know me, then you know that my kid comes first."this video posted to youtube shows what happened six days ago. mccoy told ksla a friend invited her over and that's when three women ran out and started shouting at her. janie mccoy: "they said that i said something about somebody wanting to fight somebody that i had no idea what they was talking about." and mccoy says that in the video. (nats)janie mccoy: :she said she didn't care if i had my baby in my hands or not. i tried to get away from the situation and as you can see they struck me anyways."mccoy suffered a bruised face and a busted lip but said her baby made it out unhurt. her father posted a second video of the assault of facebook and in 24 hours it has almost six million views. but mccoy says she still doesn''t have a report from broken bow police janie mccoy: "my dad has gone up there three, four, five times in the six days since this has happened and he keeps being told the same thing: no report has been finished."but when we called broken bow p-d, dispatchers told us a teenage girl was apprehended in the case and she and her mother have now gone before a judge. mccoy says she hopes this viral video brings vindication. janie mccoy: "my intentions were never for it to go as far as it was. our point was to try to get somebody to help us get something done about it."

her body was branded and beaten.
