(robin) in our top story this morning ... an arrest has been made in the murder of an east bay husband and father. police say, 48-year-old bradley machugh was shot and killed -- after getting into an argument with people driving recklessly in his neighborhood. the shooting happened early sunday morning in discovery bay.... right near the corner of wilde and cullen drives.(wipe vo)police say 19-year-old brayan zavala

officer hitsotthey were flagged down by a citizen regarding a suspicious vehicle police say when officers approached the grey chrysler sedan to investigate, there was an exchange of gunfire and both the suspect and the 41 year old officer were wounded. --nats-i've been shot.. .stomach.. and shot in the hand sotthere was a pop pop popsot it's frightening, it happens seemingly more regularlypolice are not saying who shot first or what prompted the shooting, but both the officer and the suspect underwent surgery for gunshot wounds. sot officers brave that dangers and take that risk every time they put on the badge, so it's a reminder just how dangerous the job can be and nothing is routine.it turns out the suspicious vehicle had been stolen and shortly after the shooting a nearby taxicab was stolen. police are now looking to see if there's a connection and if there might be another suspect connected standup dan kerman/sf 115-125 the officer is listed in critical but stable condition, the suspect has life threatening injuries. in sf, dan kerman kron 4 news (robin) police in

sunnyvale have released new information about a police shooting. it happened tuesday afternoon on east weddell avenue. a police k-9 was killed in the incident. when police arrived to the area they found a woman had been stabbed in the stomach ... she told police her boyfriend ... who has been identified as the suspect ... 25-year old jesus birelas- contreras ... was still inside the home and was armed with a knife. police say they tried to negotiate with him ... then at some point he threatened officers... growing memorial in front of the department to honor him. the officer who fired his gun has been placed on administrative leave during the investigation. (robin)communities in the south bay are mourning the loss of three teenagers who were killed in a car ... that went off the road and 50 feet down an embankment.police say the crash happened sometime tuesday night ... in san mateo county near woodside. 18-year-old matthew cruz of redwood city; 19-year-old andrew gonzales of menlo park; and 19-year-old ricardo torres redwood city .. were the teenagers were found dead the following morning.police say it doesn't appear that alcohol played a role in the crash ... but they are not ruling it out. happening today... city employees in oakland will be on strike. the union says it is protesting unfair labor practices. the strike is set to begin at five this evening. librarians... building inspectors... street cleaning crews... sewer workers... and parking enforcement officers are among the workers participating in today's strike. city officials say

(robin)the suspect in new york city's terror attack has been charged with federal terrorism offenses ... including providing material support to isis.kristen holmes has the latest this morning from new york. the deadliest terror attack in new york since 9/11.more information emerging about the suspect accused of using a truck to kill eight and wound more than a dozen.sayfullo saipov appearing in federal court wednesday, is charged with providing material support to isis anddestruction of motor vehicles. saipov, not entering a plea. authorities say the 29 year old uzbekistan native became radicalized in america after arriving in 2010.the federal complaint against him says he intended to use a truck "to inflict maximum damage against civilians" and chose to strike on halloween "because he

haaziq madyun kron4news (robin) fire crews battled a fire burning at a store in santa rosa last night. take a look. firefighters arrived to the lucky's supermarket on bicentennial way just after seven o'clock. the store is not far from the fountaingrove neighborhood devastated in the firestorm. no one was hurt in the supermarket fire. the flames have since been put out. however the cause of the fire is (robin)as homeowners in napa valley try to recover after the north bay fires ... so are businesses like - the senza hotel ... which opened its doors to help those displaced. four's philippe djegal has more. (philippe) the smoke that for weeks blocked the balcony views here at the senza hotel in napa, has cleared up, making a visit to this

boutique establishment all the more inviting. workers are back tending to the hotel's plush vinyeyards. but general manager graham yallop says getting the word out, and convincing visitors to re-book and come back, like for more many other businesses, has been a challenge.graham yallop/general manager- "we're looking around about a 50- percent reduction year-over-year in loss of business due to the fires." and, that's in part he says, because immediately after the fires broke out... during napa's busiest month of the year... the owners of the senza hotel, craig and kathryn hall gave rooms away.graham yallop/general manager- "since october 8th, we've then gone on to offer over 260 room nights for those that were displaced. as well as a place for fire fighters and first responders to lay their head to get back to the action of trying to qualify and get it under control." the hall's, who also own the hall and walt wineries in napa and sonoma, are donating their tasting fees from october to the fire relief effort. but graham says his

hardworking employees need help as well. not donations -- just your business. typically, the rooms right now would be filled. the pool areas would be packed and getting a reservation would be tough. right now, that's not the case.graham yallop/general manager- "we have people here who are purely, um, able to get more hours when we have more rooms sold. so, when you think of napa, think of the grassroots. think of those who serve the napa valley. those who take care of people who come here and look beyond the doors, and look into the business and realize that there are people that, at this time of year, whether it's the holiday season or not, they have bills to pay as well as everybody else does." so even a day trip to the napa valley and a few bucks spent here or there, will keep businesses alive and able to thrive.graham yallop/general manager- "we will recover. we are napa strong -- we are sonoma strong and we look forward to taking care of everybody as soon as you find the chance to return." hopefully sooner -- rather than later. in napa, philippe djegal, kron four news. increased security at safeway stores in san francisco's richmond district after an employee was allegedly stabbed in the back by a shoplifter. police say 34 year old michael pardo also threatened to stab the other employees who rushed to help their injured co worker. the incident happened at the 7th avenue store just after midnight monday. the richmond district supervisor says that's not the only violence to take place at this store. she says the husband of an employee was beaten up a few weeks prior while trying to help stop a shoplifter. the supervisor wants the grocery chain to pay off duty san francisco police

officers overtime to guard safeway stores in her district. (robin) safeway currently pays for off duty police officers at their potereo center, market street and fillmore district locations. safeway officials have not replied to our repeated requests for comment. (robin) in the east bay ... we are learning new tests in oakland have revealed high levels of lead in the water at several schools. kron four's terisa estacio tells us what a local organization is calling for to deal with this serious situation. was one of 50 schools recently tested in the oakland unified school district.. (estacio pkg ) jason pfeifle, calprig. this must end. calling on the oakland unified school district to step in and immediately take action..including removing lead bearing pipes, plumbing and installing and maintain filters to remove lead - this group of activisits, parents, doctors and a school board member addressed the recent test results revealing 7 schools in the district showed higher levels then allowed by federal standards. dr. noemi spinazzi. lead goes into the brain, it can cause seizures. there are 86 schools in oakland unified - this recent test involved 50 schools. this past august high lead levels were discovered at mcclymonds high school - in the shower, and facets for drinking. a district spokesprson tells kron four news all of the contaimination was elminated and now a recent test shows mcclymonds is safe according to federal standards. vien truong. i am a mother, my kids go to frutivale where levels high.

this east bay mom was at the news conference supporting a call for a more strict policy for the district. fruitvale elementary had a higher level at one source - and this school thornhill had a higher level then allwoed by federal standards. (robin) (robin)(robin) this comes after elevated levels of lead were found in the water at three san francisco public schools. the lead was found at west portal elementary, malcolm x elementary and san francisco international high school. the district says the water itself is not bad--but in each case it's a problem with certain taps or piping. the schools have since shutdown the fixtures where

the highest levels of led have been detected. school officials have also notified parents. (robin) police in the north bay arrest a man who was carrying a machete near the transit mall in santa rosa. it happened on the 500 block of 2nd street in santa rosa. police say devin johnson... who is from los angeles... was threatening people. johnson is facing multiple charges including making criminal threats and carrying a deadly weapon. (robin) happening now: a public health alert has been issued because salads contaminated with bacteria were shipped to some trader joe's stores in california... (boxes) the salads with chicken were made by a vallejo -based company... called ghirin- ghelli specialty foods.. there is concern they could cause listeriosis.. they were sold in plastic containers at trader joe's.... with the name broccoli slaw and kale salad with white chicken meat. food inspectors say, anyone who has the salads should throw them out... or return them to the store where they were purchased. listeriosis is a serious infection that can

(robin)(boxes) contractors working on the oroville dam has finishedphase one of the construction.but there is plenty of work still to be done.max resnik has more. the massive rebuild of oroville dam's primary spillway reaches a critical milestone...capable of handling releases of 100-thousand cubic feet per second...progress closely monitored by residents like

richard nelson."they completed what they accomplished in their deadline. and plus, since the lake is at 700 feet, they have no problems with it filling up right now."with the water level more than 200 feet from the top of the dam... creating about 2.2 million acre feet of space, crews can continue their work through the rainy season."we're going to be working on the emergency spillway all winter as weather permits."the goal here -- construct a cut-off wall to prevent erosion on the emergecy spillway if it ever needs to be used again.this work is half-way done.then, it's on to phase two, which is focused on 730 feet of spillway at the very top... and final design on the chute's middle portion. "up at the top, we're going to demolish that part of the spillway and reconstruct it fully, and in the middle of the spillway, right now, that's roller compacted concrete. next year, we're going to put a layer of structural concrete on top of that."while other spillways can take years to construct, this one is being done in a fraction of the time.kiewit's project director is confident in the spillway's stability...as his crews work at such a rapid rate. (robin). police in colorado are looking for a man who shot and killed 3 people at a walmart. it happened in the city of thornton ... just outside denver. two men and one woman died. police say the shooting was random. police have released this picture of the man they are looking for. he is considered armed and dangerous. right now police do not think that terrorism was a motive but they say they have not ruled anything out. (robin) new allegations of misconduct against two more hollywood heavyweights. director and producer brett ratner is being accused by women of sexual harassment. this after a l-a times report cited six women ...

including actress olivia munn. the women say ratner aggressively pursued actresses sometimes following them into a bathroom. one actress claims ratner suggested he would give her a line in a film if she slept with him. the director's attorney is denying the allegations...w hich he calls "outrageous" oscar winning actor dustin hoffman is also apologizing for alleged sexual harassment of a 17 year old intern in 19-85. the woman alleges the now 80 year old actor groped her. in a statement hoffman apologized to (robin) get ready for bigger airport crowds over thanksgiving this year.(boxes) an estimated 28 and a half million americans will fly over a 12-day period around the holiday. that's an increase of 3 percent compared to last year. industry experts say that the sunday after thanksgiving will be the busiest travel day... with about 2-pont-9 million people flying. the group says that airlines are adding more

(robin) as we get closer to the holidays ... many places are in need of extra help. and amazon plans on hiring 800 people for seasonal jobs...which will be primarily in warehouses. amazon's holding job fairs this month around the bay area... the first one is at 9 o'clock this morning at the courtyard marriott in richmond. the next job fair will be tomorrow ... also at nine in the morning at the hyatt house in san (robin) humans love dogs more than other humans. that's according to a new study from a british medical research charity. it staged two donation campaigns-- one for dogs and the other for people. the donation for dogs received more money than the donation for humans. then another study from north-eastern university revealed people felt more sympathy for dogs. researchers say people were a lot less distressed when adult humans were victimized compared to puppies. bay are preparing for flooding in burned out neighborhoods followinglast month's wildfires. ( will ) kron 4's camila bernal is live in santa rosa this morning with the details. camila. ( camila ) lots of people whose homes survived the fires...are returning to neighborhoods surrounded by blackened hills. what is left of fire-ravaged terrain has firefighters and forecasters concerned as storms now approach. burned vegetation increases the risks of mudslides and flooding. calfire has deployed watershed emergency response teams to identify problem spots.

calfire officials say that some wildfires burn so hotly, flames can bake the earth, creating an ashy crust that rainwater won't penetrate. this causes the water to run off like a sheet of glass.

is now in place and we are learning more about how that money will be used to improve bart. bart officials say they are expecting about 20- million dollars more for next years budget. some of that money will allow them to hire more police officers and station cleaners to do maintenance on train cars. caltrans says the new gas tax will raise more than 50-billion dollars over the next 10 years. all of that money will go to transportation across the state. a warning this morning after salads contaminated with bacteria were shipped to some trader joe's stores in california... the salads with chicken were made by a vallejo -based company... called ghirin- ghelli specialty foods.. there is concern the salads could cause listeriosis. they were

this morning there are calls for increased security at safeway stores in san francisco's richmond district. this after an empolyee was stabbed in the back by a suspected shoplifter. now police are saying that the suspect... michael pardo also threatened other employees who tried to help their injured co-worker. the stabbing happened at the 7th avenue store just after midnight monday. richmond district supervisor sandra lee fewer says its not the only violence to take place at this store.

the supervisor says she is meeting with safeway corporate officials and wants the grocery chain to pay off duty san francisco police officers overtime to guard safeway stores in her district. ( darya ) a school in the east bay that tested positive for lead in the drinking water is now safe. this past august high lead levels were discovered at mclymonds high school. it was found in the showers and drinking faucets. a district spokesperson says all of the contamination was eliminated and a recent test shows the water is now safe. seven other schools in oakland have tested positive for higher levels of lead than federal regulations allow. the school district says the situation is under control. but parents are now calling for the school district to enforce stricter policies to remove lead pipes. ( darya ) this comes after elevated levels of lead were found in the water at three san francisco public schools. the lead was found at west

portal elementary, malcolm x elementary and san francisco international high school. the district says the water itself is not bad--but in each case it's a problem with certain taps or piping. the schools have since shutdown the fixtures where the highest levels of led have been detected. police in san francisco are investigating two random shootings on halloween night. a 35-year-old man was shot in the western addition neighborhood.... near the corner of willow and laguna streets. he was standing in front of his home.. when he heard gunshots and realized he was hit. he was taken to the hospital and is expected to be okay. and then just a few hours later...shots were fired near the corner of divisadero and oak streets. police are searching for three men who ran off after shooting at a 23-year-old man. he was not injured in the shooting. ( darya ) crews battled a fire burning at a popular store in sonoma county. take a look.

firefighters arrived at the lucky's supermarket on bicentennial way in santa rosa last night. the store is not far from the fountaingrove neighborhood that was devastated in the firestorm. crews say they could see smoke from a mile away. no one was hurt. ( darya ) in the east bay... a pregnant woman has died after a car crash on highway- four in concord. the crash happened on westbound highway- 4 at port chicago highway. the c-h-p says a 20-year-old woman died at the hospital. witnesses say the victim was speeding and made an unsafe turn when she crashed into another car. the person in the other car was not injured. el cerrito police have arrested a suspect in a rape that happened twelve years ago. investigators say keith asberry is suspected in a home invasion and sex assault in 2005. police were able to identify asberry using a new d-n-a test. the suspect

calls for this morning there are calls for increased security at safeway stores in san francisco's richmond district. this after an empolyee was stabbed in the back by a suspected shoplifter. now police are saying that the suspect... michael pardo also threatened other employees who tried to help their injured co-worker. the stabbing happened at the 7th avenue store just after midnight monday. richmond district supervisor sandra lee fewer says its not the only violence to take place at this store. the supervisor says she is meeting with safeway corporate

officials and wants the grocery chain to pay off duty san francisco police officers overtime to guard safeway stores in her district. ( darya ) a school in the east bay that tested positive for lead in the drinking water is now safe. this past august high lead levels were discovered at mclymonds high school. it was found in the showers and drinking faucets. a district spokesperson says all of the contamination was eliminated and a recent test shows the water is now safe. seven other schools in oakland have tested positive for higher levels of lead than federal regulations allow. the school district says the situation is under control. but parents are now calling for the school district to enforce stricter policies to remove lead pipes. ( darya ) this comes after elevated levels of lead were found in the water at three san francisco public schools. the lead was found at west portal elementary, malcolm x elementary and san francisco international high school. the district says the water itself is not bad--but in each

( darya ) in the east bay... a pregnant woman has died after a car crash on highway- four in concord. the crash happened on westbound highway- 4 at port chicago highway. the c-h-p says a 20-year-old woman died at the hospital. witnesses say the victim was speeding and made an unsafe turn when she crashed into another car. the person in the other car was not injured. el cerrito police have arrested a suspect in a rape that happened twelve years ago. investigators say keith asberry is suspected in a home invasion and sex assault in 2005. police were able to identify asberry using a new d-n-a test. the suspect was already in jail for separate sexual assault charges. police say in 20-05 asberry knocked on the door of an apartment shared by two women. when one woman opened they door---police say he forced his way inside and commited the rape.
