police commision. kron 4's camila bernal is live in san francisco with more. camila? ( camila )good morning marty, san francisco is one of the only major cities in the us where officers don't carry tasers... and implementing this is not going to be cheap. it's estimated that it would cost the city between 3 and 8 million dollars depending on the number of officers that are trained for this. take vo the police chief argues that tasers would be a good way to avoid deadly force.he says these weapons would also protect officers because there is a lower chance of the officer suffering an injury-- this would avoid workers comp and medical bills. but even though the union and the chief believe this is a less lethal option, opponents say this is a bad idea.their argument is that tasers can cause serious injury or even death. they also argue that the tasers could malfunction putting everyone at risk.take sot camila:although the police commission voted to approve the use of tasers, this measure would not be implemented until december of 2018.live in san francisco, camila bernal kron 4 news.

( marty ) kron four and the salvation army are busy tallying up the donations for victims of the north bay firestorm. we teamed up with the salvation army for a day long telethon. the generosity of kron four viewers raised more than 73-thousand plus an additional 8-thousand online friday morning. and by the time we went off the air at 11:00 last night, the tally was over 230-thousand dollars. in september, kron4, the salvation army and our viewers worked together to raise nearly 140-thousand for hurricane harvey relief. thank you to everyone who donated -- to either relief effort. if you missed it yesterday -- you can still donate on our website at kron4.com ( marty ) two dozen people are looking forward to returning to their homes tonight. they were forced to evacuate their chinatown apartment building after a fire broke out on the ground floor. the fire started on mason street around 6 last night. firefighters were able to knock down the fire

within an hour. and kept it from spreading to adjoining buildings. it's not clear yet how the fire started... but crews are paying special attention to a laundromat on the ground floor. no one was injured in the fire. residents will be able to return to their homes tonight after inspections are completed. ( marty ) sheriff's deputies have arrested a 70- year-old man in santa clara county for taking pictures of an underage girl while on public transportation. florencio hernandez-palmo was taking pictures and recording a 16-year-old girl on the v-t- a. the incident was reported last month. deputies say hernandez-palmo also followed the girl off of the bus and continued recording her. hernandez- palmo has been booked in the santa clara county jail. ( marty ) an amber alert is in effect for a missing two month old bay in southern california.. and police believe the suspect is headed north. this is the suspectjeffrey michael gomes. he is accused of taking his infant son from the fort

tejon area near the grapevine section of interstate five. he was last seen in a 20-07 white chevrolet pickup truck with california license plate: zero=two =three==nine ==zero p-one. again that's the plate on a chevrolet pickup truck that could be heading north on interstate five. (marty) an exhaustive study released friday by 13 government agencies concludes that only human activities can explain climate change. the "climate science special report" attributes global warming to greenhouse gas emissions since the middle of the twentieth century. it says there is "no convincing alternative explanation" for the trend. surprisingly, the white house approved friday's report. president trump has been a vocal critic of climate change...at one point, he referred to it as a "hoax." nightmare must end.here in the bay area, organizers had hoped to hold saturday's protest at union square in san francisco. but, the city's recreation and parks department denied their permit request saying that union square is crowded with the annual skating rink and christmas tree already in place. refuse facism was offered other locations. . such as nearby justin herman plaza. . .but they are insisting on union square.sot union square is the place to be in the eyes of millions. lawyers representing refuse fascism filed a complaint against the city, but friday afternoon a judge ruled in favor of the recreation and parks department. despite the setback, organizers say they plan to hold their protest at union square anyway.sotwe are going to be there for a nonviolent, peaceful but determined massive beautiful demonstration. what's unknown at this point is how many people will actually show up. previous anit facism protests have varied greatly in size. protests in berkeley this past summer attracted thousands but on friday afternoon only a handful of people showed up for the court hearing on the permit application. organizers insist the protest will be well attended.sot it's very

(marty) friday was a big day for apple with the release of the iphone 10. while, wednesday was a big day for some crooks. a delivery truck at the stonestown galeria, loaded with 300 smart phones was burglarized wednesday morning at about 11am. police say three thieves in a white dodge van ripped off the phones, which kron 4 news has confirmed were iphone 10's slated for delivery to the apple store inside the mall. (marty) police are hoping someone who was at the mall wednesday morning will be able to supply some information. in the meantime kron 4 news has confirmed the theft did

she had a chance to drive around santa rosa with her son, and couldn't believe how much was lost. including almost her entire neighborhood... the journey's end mobile home park. shirley moroni/fire victim- "i couldn't believe it. i didn't ever felt that would ever happen. i thought they could save the place, you know, but no." she thanks a police officer for forcing her to evacuate on october eighth, not long before her home burned down. the next day she blacked out and fell, sending her to the hospital, where she stayed until being released thursday night. shirley moroni/fire victim- "everybody took good care of me." her son's home in santa rosa, is now her home. shirley moroni/fire victim- "i feel fortunate that i have a place to stay. my son said i can stay here, and i'll help him as much as i can with the cooking and all that." as shirley wraps her head around what has been a turbulent last month... she thinks about the stuff she lost in the fire. most of it material, but some of it near and dear to her heart.shirley moroni/fire victim- "i had all my special

long directing the fast moving nunns fire away from the browns valley neighborhood. sot: ella sogomonian, napa valley// "and you can imagine a really big challenge out here is the steep hilly terrain and these guys were in bulldozers in the middle of the night encircled by flames and smoke which made it really difficult for them hard to see."ponce and wynn worked like this for six days.sot: dan wynn, bulldozed fire break for 6 days to save homes// "this fire came straight down on us it was extremely hot we bulldozed all this to put the flames out. and in this particular part we were actually in the flames to put that out. a lot of credit to my boss eli ponce he actually took his dozer and went inside there and i kind of covered a six and was watching him telling him where to move around and we were consumed by fire a couple of times out here."they refueled 6 times which wynn says runs about 900 dollars each but the reward of possibly saving thousands of homes wynn says was worth the sacrifice and the danger. sot: dan wynn, bulldozed fire break for 6 days to save homes// "it's all donated we don't expect anything from anybody we were just happy

police say sloat boulevard is notrious for people breaking the speed limit. kron 4's stanley roberts grabs his radar gun to see for himself -- in this edition of people behaving badly. the average speed on sloat blvd near 41st ave is somewhere around 40 miles per hour i know this beccause i used my radar gun to determine the speed the posted speed limit on sloat heading towards ocean beach is 35 the opposite direction is 40 that being saidnats: ambiance when checking speeds i found numbers like 46 miles per hour for the first car and 40 miles per hour for the car following nats: ambiance but almost consistantly the speed is in the 40 range . neighbors say that its often difficult to cross the street because deivers simply don't stop. (describe crossing the street to me) yellingand i guess we can add don't care to that list well what happens we try to wiit for the cars to pass/ and when your on the sidewalk they still try to go by so

basically the drivers are not paying attention an are not yielding to pedestrians in the marked crosswalks nats: ambiance and they are ignoring the caution signs advising there is a crosswalk, but what people don't realize, sloat blvd is actyally highway 35 so it falls under the jurisdiction of caltransnow before i use the radar gun i visually estimate the drivers speed then i see what the radar gun gives me ans some times, i don't really have to use the radar, for instance this street sweeper was going a whooping 19 miles hournats: ambiance the speed in sloat was actually reduced from 40 to 35 because according to vision zero sf is a high injury corridor vision zero sf has a goal to make reduce fatal crashes to zero by 20 year 2024there are changes being made to sloat as we speak the bottom line is even with the reduction is speeds drivers are still going to fast .. i guess sfpd solos

sloat boulevard is notrious for people breaking the speed limit. kron 4's stanley roberts grabs his radar gun to see for himself -- in this edition of people behaving badly. the average speed on sloat blvd near 41st ave is somewhere around 40 miles per hour i know this beccause i used my radar gun to determine the speed the posted speed limit on sloat heading towards ocean beach is 35 the opposite direction is 40 that being saidnats: ambiance when checking speeds i found numbers like 46 miles per hour for the first car and 40 miles per hour for the car following nats: ambiance but almost consistantly the speed is in the 40 range . neighbors say that its often difficult to cross the street because deivers simply don't stop. (describe crossing the street to me) yellingand i guess we

can add don't care to that list well what happens we try to wiit for the cars to pass/ and when your on the sidewalk they still try to go by so basically the drivers are not paying attention an are not yielding to pedestrians in the marked crosswalks nats: ambiance and they are ignoring the caution signs advising there is a crosswalk, but what people don't realize, sloat blvd is actyally highway 35 so it falls under the jurisdiction of caltransnow before i use the radar gun i visually estimate the drivers speed then i see what the radar gun gives me ans some times, i don't really have to use the radar, for instance this street sweeper was going a whooping 19 miles hournats: ambiance the speed in sloat was actually reduced from 40 to 35 because according to vision zero sf is a high injury corridor vision zero sf has a goal to make reduce fatal crashes to zero by 20 year 2024there are changes being made to sloat as we

the president and first lady are in japan this morning. they visited the pearl harbor memorial friday. the first couple observed a moment of silence at pearl harbor. hawaii was the first stop on a 12-day, five-country trip to asia. the trumps placed a wreath at the u-s-s arizona memorial.

they also went outside and tossed flower petals into the water...before being shown the site by the national park service. (marty) an exhaustive study released friday by 13 government agencies concludes that only human activities can explain climate change. the "climate science special report" attributes global warming to greenhouse gas emissions since the middle of the twentieth century. it says there is "no convincing alternative explanation" for the trend. surprisingly, the white house approved friday's report. president trump has been a vocal critic of climate change...at one point, he referred to it as a "hoax." (marty) meanwhile, former president george h-w bush calls president donald trump a "blowhard." bush makes the comment in a new book about him and his son, former president george w bush. the book is titled, "the last republicans." the elder bush also told author mark updegrove he thought trump could unite the country --

union square is the place to be in the eyes of millions. lawyers representing refuse fascism filed a complaint against the city, but friday afternoon a judge ruled in favor of the recreation and parks department. despite the setback, organizers say they plan to hold their protest at union square anyway.sotwe are going to be there for a nonviolent, peaceful but determined massive beautiful demonstration. what's unknown at this point is how many people will actually show up. previous anit facism protests have varied greatly in size. protests in berkeley this past summer attracted thousands but on friday afternoon only a handful of people showed up for the court hearing on the permit application. organizers insist the protest will be well attended.sot it's very important that millions of people act and act soon to come together to raise their voice. deadly firestorm. kron 4's spencer blake has the story. these flames from the atlas peak fire started creeping up on the napa home of joe betz and his wife that fateful sunday night.when he saw the red sky, betz started following his instincts."we got into the car immediately, drove out, and tried to make a turn and the embers were not flying by - they were already shooting by!"though he says it would have been impossible leave if they had stayed another five minutes, joe immediately started thinking of those who live near himwhose homes weren't yet burned to the ground."you know, i rang so fast i went to a friend of mine, knocked on the door, and from there i knocked another door and another door, then i called a couple of people right away." kept at it, until he had to get away.it's likely joe betz saved the lives of at least six different families.as he told me at his san francisco restaurant, house of prime rib, there áwas some confusion that night.some people - like his neighbor tom - were so sleepy that his reaction to a late-night banging on the

(marty) friday was a big day for apple with the release of the iphone 10. while, wednesday was a big day for some crooks. a delivery truck at the stonestown galeria, loaded with 300 smart phones was burglarized wednesday morning at about 11am. police say three thieves in a white dodge van ripped off the phones, which kron 4 news has confirmed were iphone 10's slated for delivery to the apple store inside the mall.

(philippe)shirley moroni/fire victim- "it's gonna be a long road for everybody -- really." before 86-year-old shirley moroni was hospitalized the day after her home was destroyed in a wildfire... she had a chance to drive around santa rosa with her son, and couldn't believe how much was lost. including almost her entire neighborhood... the journey's end mobile home park. shirley moroni/fire victim- "i couldn't believe it. i didn't ever felt that would ever happen. i thought they could save the place, you know, but no." she thanks a police officer for forcing her to evacuate on october eighth, not long before her home burned down. the next day she blacked out and fell, sending her to the hospital, where she stayed until being released thursday night. shirley moroni/fire victim- "everybody took good care of me." her son's home in santa rosa, is now her home.

shirley moroni/fire victim- "i feel fortunate that i have a place to stay. my son said i can stay here, and i'll help him as much as i can with the cooking and all that." as shirley wraps her head around what has been a turbulent last month... she thinks about the stuff she lost in the fire. most of it material, but some of it near and dear to her heart.shirley moroni/fire victim- "i had all my special furniture in there and it all went up in smoke." but she's moving on now. and, her family will be by her side. in santa rosa, philippe djegal, kron four news. sloat boulevard is notrious for people breaking the speed limit. kron 4's stanley roberts grabs his radar gun to

see for himself -- in this edition of people behaving badly. the average speed on sloat blvd near 41st ave is somewhere around 40 miles per hour i know this beccause i used my radar gun to determine the speed the posted speed limit on sloat heading towards ocean beach is 35 the opposite direction is 40 that being saidnats: ambiance when checking speeds i found numbers like 46 miles per hour for the first car and 40 miles per hour for the car following nats: ambiance but almost consistantly the speed is in the 40 range . neighbors say that its often difficult to cross the street because deivers simply don't stop. (describe crossing the street to me) yellingand i guess we can add don't care to that list well what happens we try to wiit for the cars to pass/ and when your on the sidewalk they still try to go by so basically the drivers are not paying attention an are not yielding to pedestrians in the marked crosswalks nats: ambiance and they are ignoring the caution signs advising
