in concord. friends have identified the victim as 17- year-old lawrence janson.he was killed yesterday at the corner of beach street and salvio street. (robin) here is a closer look at exactly where the shooting happened. and you can see just how close that is to olympic high school.kron4's spencer blake has more details on the shooting this morning. just after classes ended at olympic high school monday afternoon, police say a deadly shooting happened less than a block from campus."i was walking a friend out to my driveway - i live about halfway down cedar street - and i heard four pop, pop, pops. and i looked at her and she goes, 'oh that's somebody hammering.' and i said, 'uh.' and all the sudden i saw the helicopters."it was at the intersection of beach and salvio streets where police say a black sedan pulled up to a group of students.when a shooter got out of the car, he only shot at one person.the rest ran for cover.the injured student ran back to olympic high, where staff and police treated him before rushing him to a hospital.he died later in

the afternoon.many neighbors in the area were at work at the time, but several of them heard about the shooting before they got home."i live like right on, pretty much the same street as olympic. i can see it from my porch here, so i was a little concerned." though this man never expected hear about a shooting near the school, he does say students' behavior on his street can be a little nerve-racking."just kind of not doing what they're supposed to through here. i wish that there was a little more police activity, ya know, make us feel a little safer." the continuation school's principal, lynsie castellano, sent a message to students' parents, letting them know a fellow student had passed away. she wrote, quote, "at this time, we are asking your understanding in respecting the privacy of the family, which, at this time, do not wish to share further details. when they have let us know about any services or memorials that may be open to our olympic family, i will let you know."there will be grief counselors at the school on tuesday. preparing for a heavy police presence today. kron 4's ella sogomonian explains why grafitti scribbled on a wall ... has the school on edge. redwood high can expect to see a heavy police presence at school all day tuesday after an obscure message scribbled on a boy's bathroom stall was found that read 11/7/17 parking lot r-i-p.sot: abby onel, student//"it makes me feel safer."sot: izzy skov, student// "i just don't like how many cops there are and it just freaks me out a little bit it doesn't make it feel like school."this is a third week of this kind of disruption at the school.the day before halloween some writing also in a bathroom warned of a school shooting. the week before that a bomb threat. although students tell kron 4 they're not taking the matter as seriously anymore the school district is siding with caution.sot: david yoshihara, superintendent tamalpais union high school district// "i'm a father of young children as well .and so from a parent safety is important, from a student i think what they're looking at is there have been a number of these and if anything it validates how important school is for them and wanting to be

(robin)police are trying to trackdown the gunman who shot a man in santa rosa. the victim was sitting in a car on corby avenue about four blocks north from hearn avenue when the gunfire erupted.it all happened just after 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon.the victim is expected to survive. detectives believe the shooting was targeted - but have no motive yet. morning while in court in palo alto ... and they had help. police say the suspects had a handcuff key. kron4's ali reid has the latest for us this morning. pkgwhile combing the area for clues, deputies didn't have to look very far to find this the key that unlocked the prisoners handcuffs. the question is how did they manage to get their hands on it?they are handcuffed, waist chained, shackled.the 2 inmates .. 47 year old john bivins, and 46 year old tramel mcclough were attending a hearing for armed robbery charges when they somehow got away from the deputy as he escorted them from the first floor courtroom, to the hallway. officials say they escaped through a side door, wearing prison issued orange and gray clothing.deputy reginald cooks/santa claracounty sheriff's dept. - we believe it was an orchestrated escape, where they had a car staged.the two men, who i'm told are friends and were both booked in february for robbery abandoned the first getaway car a few blocks away then took off in a u-haul van.one

woman i spoke to, who knew both bivins and mcclough, says they're from the east palo alto area with family and children living there. detectives have been on the hunt, but they are yet to be found. (robin)an escaped inmate from southern california has been arrested in petaluma. officers say they were patroling in the washington square shopping center yesterday morning.. and they came into conact with humberto gastelum a records check revealed he was wanted for escaping a - jail work crew - in imperial county. (robin) the man who killed 26 people at a church in texas was shot twice by a civilian... before police say ... he shot and killed himself. investigators are trying to figure out why devin patrick kelly opened fire at the first baptist church in sutherland springs on sunday.they say he had a history of assault on his wife and child and had reportedly been sending threatening text messages to his mother-in-law -- a member of the church's congregation.

is being replaced by buses. this applies specifically to the 7 am and 8:15 departure times. ferry officials say the change is because of mechanical issues after a boat died in the water last night on its way back to vallejo. this is a picture taken from on the boat. a kron 4 viewer says the boat was dead in the water for at least an hour before a tug boat had to come tow the ferry to vallejo. (robin@landing) there's growing concern that drones could be used to smuggle contraband, including drugs, into jails. now, a santa clara county supervisor says the county needs to step up efforts to crack down on the problem. kron 4 charles clifford reports. standupright behind me here is the elmwood correctional facility in milptias. it covers 62 acres and there's mounting evidence that drones have been used to carry things over the fencesotwhat we are seeing is things like

methamphetamines being smuggled into the jail so we want to make sure drones aren't being used for that. santa clara county supervisor cindy chavez says that during a recent tour of elmwood she saw evidence of contraband being smuggled into the facility using drones. she says the santa clara county sheriff's office, which operates the jail, is also worried about the problem.sot they let us know that they were concerned about drones and as a matter of fact recovered a crashed drone inside the permiter.chavez now wants the county to implement drone-related air restrictions over detention facilities like elmwood and to then enforce those restrictions.sotto makes sure that punishment is pretty swift. that we are aggressive in pursuing people who are flying drones over our jail facilities.she also want to launch a public outreach campaign to help people understand where they can and can't fly a drone.sotthese are facilities that we have to make sure we are doing our very best both for public safety but also for the safety of the inmates and correctional officers.standup chavez plans to bring up her concerns about drones at tuesday board of superviors meeting. in milpitas, charles clifford kron 4 news. francisco have arrested a man after they say they found 70 pounds of meth and two pounds of heroin in his noe valley home. the suspect is alejandro alvarez. in addition to the drugs ... investigators also say they found 46-thousand dollars in cash. (robin)(boxes)in san mateo ... police are looking for a man who robbed two people at gunpoint. this a new sketch released by police.the victims were robbed as they were walking on north san mateo drive. here is a look at the area.it happened on october 14th -- around 7 o'clock at night. once the victims handed over their property ... the criminal ran away...no one was hurt. (robin) there is a 25-thousand dollar reward .... for information about a series of robberies that have occurred in blackhawk. this is just east of danville. these pictures are of the suspect from the most recent break-in. it happened around 7-30 last friday night. police say, three people entered the home ... snatching property and valuables... before taking off. the

(robin)(boxes) san francisco police have released new details on the murder of an 83-year-old man. the man was vicously attacked at muni station back in 20-10 by a group of teens. kron4's justine waldman is tracking the new developments.. justine: huan chen's son says that there is not a day that goes by that he doesn't think about his father.they used to talk every day.now he along with police... hope that a 100- dollar reward will help find his killer.at 83-years old. huan chen regularly took muni to get around san francisco.on january 24th 20-10 he got off the t-line at 3rd and oakdale, to head to his assisted living community.that is when police say a group 6 black male juveniles beat him up and he bashed his head on the ground.he died from his injures two months later.sot we can't keep on hurting each other at the time, his death

(robin) its election day for five bay area counties. kron-4 is your local election headquarters .... and this morning at least two cities are voting on measures to tax marijuana. in sonoma county in the city of cotati... measure g is a tax on marijuana businesses. a yes vote would tax up to 25 dollars per square foot of a business' cultivation area.... or up to eight percent of gross receipts. it is estimated to generate 3- hundred thousand dollars in tax revenue annually.. and would be used to help pay for city services impacted by the pot business. also measure g in the san mateo county city

of pacifica. a yes vote would create a six percent tax on marijuana operations gross receipts. after two years that tax could be decreased or increased up to 10 percent. it is estimated to create three hundred and sixty thousand dollars annually in tax revenue. (robin) pacifica residents will also be voting on measure- c today. the measure deals with rent control... and what to do about a tight housing market. according to an analysis of the measure... it would limit the amount a landlord may increase rents on certain units. the measure would also impose restricions on a landlord's ability to evict... under the measure... a commision of seven people will be responsible for determining rent change. with the vote set for tomorrow... both sides are taking a stand. when sonoma county sheriff rob giordano spoke to the press during the north bay wildfires, standing next to him interpreting for the deaf was sandy mclennon. in fact during the wildfires mclennon interpreted for north bay officials at a total of 15 press conferences. it was the first time the professional interpreter was asked to sign for a tragic incidentnat/sot haaziqhow are you doing considering how much work you did interpreting for all of the press conferences duing such a tragic event? the ceo of communique interpreting, cris eggers interpreted for this interview mclennon talks about how this disaster revealed critical improvements needed for using cellphones to alert the deaf during an emergency

is not very clear. people don't know about the alert system via cellphones. frankly i just learned about that myself a few weeks ago imagine that. so if i am not aware of it, there must many other deaf people who are not aware that service is available on their phones. so we need to let them know that emergency alerts are available and we also need some kind of alert system that is visual, a strobe light or something that is very bright, maybe color coded to help deaf people know what kind of emergency that is going on because we depend on our eyes for information while you people who hear depend on your ears">she says it was her partner that alerted her about the firesandy mclennon says she will be working with the california office of emergency services to improve disaster preparedness for deaf people. in the mean time she is thankful for being able to help deaf people in sonoma county

( james ) happening now... a manhunt is underway after two inmates escaped custody. they managed to get away while they were in court in palo alto and now we are learning that they had a key to their handcuffs. deputies found the key while they were searching the area after the escape. right now it is still not clear how they were able to get their hands on the key in the first place. the inmates are 47-year-old john bivins and 46-year-old tramel mcclough. they were in court on robbery charges when they escaped. police say it is not clear if the men are armed but they should be considered dangerous. ( james ) an escaped inmate from southern california has been arrested in petaluma. officers say they were patroling the washington square shopping center yesterday morning when they came into contact with humberto gastelum. a records check revealed he was wanted for escaping a jail work crew in imperial county.

(darya) breaking overnight... a suspected car thief led police on a high-speed chase in los angeles. officers began chasing the reported stolen ford mustang late last night. the driver sped through streets at speeds of more than 100 miles-per-hour... the chase continued for more than an hour before california highway patrol performed a "pit" maneuver that made the mustang stop. the driver then climbed out of the car with his hands up. police took him into custody.
