(robin) happening now: authorities are hoping a 25-thousand dollar reward will generate some new leads in the case of two escaped inmates. they escaped from a palo alto courthouse on monday. kron4's rob fladeboe has the latest for us this morning. we are learning more about the role of 54 year old rene hunt, of east palo alto and about 44 year old marquita kirk, of sunnyvale. hunt and kirk have been arrested and are accused of being accomplices in the escape. the sheriff's office says rene hunt, an associate of at least one of the escapees, is the person who provided the first getaway vehicle outside the courthouse. that would be this toyota which was abandoned a block away, it's motor still running. deputies say that marquita kirk rented and provided the second getaway vehicle, a u-haul cargo van. kirk, say deputies, has a "longstanding

santa rosa officials say nearly all of the 160 units in the mobile home park were burned by the tubbs fire. but the homes that are still standing are still uninhabitable because they lack utilities. (robin) happening today... school officials in the east bay will begin testing the tap water at all schools in the oakland unified school district. this comes after seven schools in the city tested positive for higher levels of lead than federal regulations allow. the school district says the situation is under control. a recent test at one of the schools affected shows that the water is now safe. (robin) also in the east bay... three people arrested after leading police on a chase in oakland may be connected to other bay area shootings. we first told you about the chase yesterday on the kron 4 morning news. officers say they found a gun inside the suspects car... they believe that weapon... is linked to two other shootings in the bay area. police tried to pull the car over near 98th and edes avenues on tuesday. instead of stopping, the driver sped off

(robin)(boxes) a warning for dog owners in fremont after a dog that frequently walks a popular park in the city tested positive for a dangerous bacteria . at this time city officials are not able to verify whether the dog contracted lepto-spir-osis from central park.the park is located on stevenson boulevard. however, as a precaution... the park is closed until crews clean the area. lepto-spir-osis is a bacteria commonly spread through the urine of infected animals and it lives in water and soil. the deadly bacteria... can also be transmitited to humans. (robin)(boxes)we are getting an upclose look at the training chp officers go through. and the new challenges they face in the field. terisa estacio has the details. natural sound: "get to it" there was no messing around at the california highway patrol academy - my media training day started off quickly with a dose of rigourous pt training of jumping jacks, situps and something called nose in the rings - a push up down to fingers close together, then it was off to running then an obstacle course - where as you can see, i almost made it across before falling and getting yelled out for failing. "pick a car" (sound of chp instructor)here at the first of many drills - instructors staged an accident where a driver was under the influence - and it was our job as cadets for the day to map out a strategy dealing with the situation as if it was real. some neighbors in san jose worried about flooding. last february, heavy rains forced more than 14,000 people to flee their homes along coyote creek. kron 4's charles clifford reports. last winter, bryan rodriguez watched as the waters of coyote creek flooded his back yard and filled his house with 4 feet of water. the damage was extensive.sotthis is all putrid, bacteria contaminated water so everything is going to have to be decontaminated. since then, bryan says that they have been able to repair most, but not all, of the damage.sotand these last few months have been a push to find contractors to finish the work downstairs.with the arrival of winter, rodriguez says he's and his neighbors are worried that coyote creek could rise again.soteveryone is nervous. everyone is

(robin)over in the north bay. the rain has some in the fire zone worried because there is an increased risk of flooding and landslides in the affected areas. kron4's maureen kelly reports on how officials are working to keep that from happening. the city workers you see here are working to unload huge rolls of straw wattles. what's being rolled out now.can already be seen out in front of storm drain inlets in the burn zones like the fountaingrove grove area. canvas bags of rocks are also in place to try and stop ash and debries from clogging up the system. both are meant to help filter any potentially polluted runoff from getting into watershed ..after the rain washes thru the properties leveled by fire. they are mostly worried about heavy metals affecting the water quality and the creatures that live in the area creeks and rivers. but the fire also created an increased risk of flash

flooding..and these barriers are meant to help keep that in check.the vegetation has burned off so the water will be running off quicker the soils ability to absorb water may be less so there might be more water going into the creeks than normal.this green stuff you see on the hillside is called hydro mulching..it helps keep the soil in place and binds with the soil to provide a protective cover.it's being used to help stabiles slopes and hillside because there is an increased of risk of landslides.which is not a huge concern during this storm, since it's not expected to be a gusher.but if the rain comes down hard enough crews will be out patrolling the fire zones checking for flooding and make sure the protections they have in place are working.maureen kelly kron4 news. in oakland want a new downtown ballpark for the athletics. that is according to a new chamber of commerce poll. it showed that 62-percent of people are in favor of the ballpark plan. in september... the a's announced a plan to build at the peralta community college district near laney college. peralta would have to agree to sell the land. the

phone. 26 people were killed in the mass shooting at a church on sunday. and now friends of the shooter say that he started bullying them in the days leading up to the shooting. investigators have learned that the shooter had previously gone to services at that church in sutherland springs, texas. ( james ) the return of wet weather has some neighbors in san jose worried about flooding. last february... heavy rains forced more than 14-thousand people out of their homes along coyote creek. one man says when the creek flooded then... it filled his home with 4 feet of water. right now efforts are underway to shore up the creek. berms are being built in rock springs neighborhood to protect homes. ( james ) in the north bay... the rainy season has some in the fire zone worried. there is an increased risk of flooding and landslides in the burned out areas. in the fountaingrove grove area... straw wattles were put into place in front of storm drain inlets... to help filter out any potentially polluted runoff from getting into watershed. crews are also "hydro mulching" on

( james ) and new this morning...the environmental protection agency is warning people in the north bay about a phone scam targeting fire victims. the e-p-a says somebody is calling victims and offering to send them federal money. they also ask for social security numbers and bank account information. the e-p-a does not offer direct assistance. ( darya ) a firearms expert testified in support of defense arguments that kate steinle was accidentally killed on san francisco's pier- 14. jose garcia zarate is charged with the second- degree murder of steinle in 20-15. defense attorneys are not contesting that zarate fired the shot that killed steinle. they are arguing that the shooting was an accident that happened after zarate found and picked up the gun on the pier. the prosecution maintains the shooting was intentional.

( darya ) one month after the deadly north bay fire storm broke out... and communities are getting closer to beginning the rebuilding process. in coffey park most of the hazardous materials have been cleaned up and now the army corps of engineers is cleaning up the debris. there are currently two dozen crews in the coffey park neighborhood. some properties have already had the debris cleared. santa rosa city officials hope to have debris removal complete by the end of january. ( james ) asbestos that was found

in the journey's end mobile home park has been cleaned ahead of schedule. access restrictions to the park were lifted yesterday. the city of santa rosa originally restricted access to the park friday... after crews found asbestos in the communal laundry room. santa rosa officials say nearly all of the 160 units in the mobile home park were burned by the tubbs fire. but the homes that are still standing are still uninhabitable because they lack utilities. ( darya ) happening tonight ... metallica's benefit concert for victims of the north bay firestorm is expected to bring thousands of people to san francisco. ( james ) police are releasing the names of some of the people accused of shooting high school student in concord. 20-year-old kristhiam uceda is accused of pulling the trigger. 18-year-old bryan sermeno-chachagua is accused of hiding the gun after the shooting. two

other 17-year-olds were arrested but police are not releasing their names because they are minors. 17-year-old lawrence jansen was shot and killed monday outside of olympic high school. police are still trying to find a motive behind the shooting. ( darya ) happening now... a 25-thousand dollar reward is being offered to help catch two escaped inmates in palo alto. tramel mcclough and john bivins escaped from a palo alto courthouse on monday. they were facing charges of armed robbery. police say the two people charged with helping the men escape... provided them with getaway cars. now investigators say more people may have been involved in helping with the escape and more arrests are possible. ( darya ) in the east bay... three people arrested after leading police on a chase in oakland may be connected to other bay area shootings. officers say they found a gun inside the driver's car. they believe that weapon is linked to two other shootings in the bay area. police tried to pull

the car over near 98th and edes avenues on tuesday. instead of stopping, the driver sped off and ultimately crashed near lakeshore and lake park avenues. one of the people in the car tried to run away, but was hit by another car. that person is in critical condition this morning. ( darya ) police are looking for two men who broke into a home in hercules. the burglary happened near the corner of dartford and brighton streets. the homeowner says he saw two men in his backyard. one of them was near the glass door.. holding something large in his hand. when police arrived... they found the rear- sliding door was smashed. the burglars got away with jewelry and a camera. ( james ) happening now... police are looking for the man who assaulted a student at santa rosa junior college. a woman told police that she was walking up a staircase when a man came from behind her... grabbed her around the waist and groped her. when the woman screamed the man let go and ran away. police say there were no other witnesses and they do not have

( darya ) happening now... sheriff's deputies in san mateo county are looking for a man who sexually assaulted two women.( james ) deputies have released a sketch of the suspect and the car they're looking for. kron 4's lydia pantazes joins us live this morning from san bruno mountain park. lydia. . this is the sketch of the man deputies are looking for. both assaults happened at san bruno mountain park. the first... on october 22nd and the second happened on monday. in both cases...police say the man went up to the women from behind... groped them and ran off. deputies are also looking for a possible car linked to the case. they say it's a 2009 mazda three hatchback or one that looks similar to this.

filled his home with 4 feet of water. right now efforts are underway to shore up the creek. berms are being built in rock springs neighborhood to protect homes. ( darya ) a firearms expert testified in support of defense arguments that kate steinle was accidentally killed on san francisco's pier- 14. jose garcia zarate is charged with the second- degree murder of steinle in 20-15. defense attorneys are not contesting that zarate fired the shot that killed steinle. they are arguing that the shooting was an accident that happened after zarate found and picked up the gun on the pier. the prosecution maintains the shooting was intentional. the gun had been stolen from a u-s bureau of land management ranger several days earlier. ( james ) fremont officials are now expanding their warning for dog owners.

they now say people should keep their dogs out of any water near the central park dog park. the dog park on stevenson boulevard is closed for cleaning after city officials learned that a dog that visits the park had a dangerous disease that can spread to other dogs. and a kron 4 viewer contacted us saying that her dog got sick after visiting that park. the park will remain closed until it can be thoroughly cleaned. ( darya ) the california n- double-a-c-p is calling for the national anthem to be changed. the group's president says the n-f-l protests prompted her to analyze the lyrics of the song. typically we only sing the first verse of the song. but she says there is a line deep in a verse that we don't normally sing that celebrates the deaths of slaves who fought for freedom. the president of the group says she supports replacing the national anthem with a new one that supports the values of all americans. investigating racist flyers left at a northern california synagogue in sacramento. the agency has released surveillance video of the people leaving the flyers. the flyers feature images of mass murderers and promote white power. they included a picture of dylann roof who shot and killed 9 people at a church in south carolina two years ago. the f-b-i says this is being investigated as a hate crime. this comes just months after synagogues in the east bay were the targets of vandalism. ( james ) house republicans are moving their tax proposal through the legislative process. and according to the congressional budget office ... the tax bill will add one-point-seven- trillion-dollars to the country's deficit. the budget resolution that serves as the guideline for the bill sets a one-point-five- trillion-dollar target. this means house republicans have already gone over the guidelines. the house is expected to add new measures to the proposal before it reaches the house floor for a vote. z. witnesses say the plane was bobbing up and down -- making 'extreme' changes in altitude before the crash. halladay was killed tuesday when his single engine plane crashed in the gulf of mexico. there was no distress call before the crash. ( darya ) a former boston television news anchor says her son was sexually assaulted by kevin spacey. she details the night she says the actor met her son by buying him drinks at a bar before allegedly assaulting him. this is the latest person to come forward accusing spacey of sexual misconduct. as a result, he has been fired from netflix including the show house of cards. he will also be replaced in a film that was set to come out in just 6 weeks.
