protection agency is now warning north bay fire victims about fake callers pretending to work for the agency. today, a man who lost his home in the fire received a call from someone offering him an e-p-a grant. that fake caller used western union to receive the grant. the e-p-a says the callers also asked for social security numbers and bank account numbers. the agency says it is only contacting fire victims about hazardous debris from what is left of their homes. if you receive a fake e-p-a call...you can call the e-p-a inspector general's hotline or the california attorney's office (grant) new at five-- the santa clara county d-a's office is warning people about a 'car wrap' scam....(vicki) prosecutors say a senior citizen in the south bay has already been targeted.. catherine heenan is here with more.. (catherine) you may have seen cars wrapped in a large ad for a particular company...people who agree to do that - are paid to be moving advertisements..

but now there's a warning of a "predatory" advanced payment scheme.a woman in san jose got an email offer to be paid $400 a week....and was sent a check for19-hundred dollars. she was told to keep $400 for the first week...and then send the remainder to the supposed company -- which would then use the money to create the shrink-wrap ad. she eventually realized it was suspicious. it 'was' a scam and the check was forged. prosecutors say a bank generally wouldn't be able to verify that before the scammers had taken their money. they're warning people tonight that the red flags include anyone asking you to cash a check and send money elsewhere... grant and vicki? (grant) twelve people in san jose are without homes tonight after a fire ripped through a townhouse. the fire broke out before six this morning at a townhouse on don seville court. firefighters found heavy smoke and fire on two levels of the building. they were able

(vicki) danville police are asking for the public's help with identifying three people connected to a car burglary. the burglary happened on october 20th but police have just released a picture of them. the car burglary happened in the fountain springs area of danville. they were last seen on surveillance camera walking into a nordstrom rack in concord. doctors are now saying that even one alcoholic drink a day... may increase a person's chances of cancer.(vicki) experts say that drinking... even a little bit... can increase a woman's risk of breast cancer. alcohol can cause an increase of estrogen... the essential hormone connected to the development of breast tissue which could affect the risk of breast cancer.(grant) people who consume roughly three-and-a-half drinks or more a day... are two to three times more likely to develop certain head and neck cancers and liver cancer. (vicki) people are signing up for obamacare in packs... despite the trump administration slashing open enrollment advertising and support.(grant) upwards of 600-thousand people signed up in the first four days, far outpacing last year's rate. nearly a quarter of those people...were first-time enrollmees.(vicki) this...after the trump administrations efforts to dismantle the affordable care act. in addition to cutting advertising and support for enrollment...the trump administration cut the sign-up period from three

tonight at 5:30-- east bay mud officials began testing for lead in the water at all schools in the oakland unified school district this morning.(grant) this follows the school district's own tests that found lead contamination at 10 schools... earlier this year. kron4's maureen kelly reports from oakland. water coming from some drinking fountains and faucets at mccymond's high school is being tested for the second time this year. that's after elevated lead levels were found at this location and 9 other schools by tests conducted by the school district.a district spokesperson says the good news is , the containmentation has been isolated to the fixtures themselves.so the exposure to students was limited.it's not in the pipes which so would it means is that when you run the water for even a few seconds out of what it one of these water fountain heads or possibly a fossett basically all that lead is gone, it clears out that's how that works.most of the problem fixtures have been removed and replaced.and those that havent' been yet.like this cafeteria

of first baptist church of sutherland springs now says he plans to demolish the church. and for the first time-- the u-s air force says it should have reported the gunman's domestic abuse charges to the f-b-i. previously-- the air force had said it was not at fault. 26 people died in the shooting. (grant) the 27- year-old took his life in april - while serving a murder sentence.. catherine heenan is here with more on what experts are saying after a new examination of his brain.. (catherine) today a boston doctor released new findings.... she says aaron hernandez suffered severe damage to parts of the brain that play an important role in memory, impulse control and behavior... the researcher says she can't say whether his behavior was a result of what's knownas c-t-e......but there was substantial damage to several

important parts of the brain, includingthe frontal lobe. the c-t-e is likely from the repeated concussions hernandez suffered while playing football. his attorneys have sued the n-f-l and the football helmet maker 'riddell' - accusing them of failing to warn hernandez about the dangers of football. he was only 27 when he committed suicide in prison. doctors have said his c-t-e brain damage wasthe worst they'd ever seen in someone so young. vicki and grant? veteran: "if it wasnt for medical marijuana i wouldnt be here today."it was organized by the american legion which released the results of a new survey of veterans. it found 92 percent support medical cannabis research -- 82 percent favor legalizing the drug for medical use. drew petrimoulx, reporting: "the american legion is calling on the federal government to reschedule marijuana to a lower classification of drugs. that would allow v-a doctors to talk to their patients about potential benefits and open the door to increased marijuana research. (grant) california regulators have officially decided uber and lyft do not have to finger-print their drivers as part of their background checks. today, the california utilities commission made the rule official during a meeting in san francisco. the taxi industry had been pushing for uber and lyft drivers to be fingerprinted because it is required for taxi drivers. the commission reviewed the case for a year... and says that fingerprinting does not add a greater level of safety. people in the taxi industry are calling the decision a mistake. (pam) a neighborhood is on edge tonight, after a group of teenagers was caught on surveillance video.... holding what appears to be items taken during a pair of residential burglaries thank you for joining us... i'm pam moore.(steve) and i'm steve aveson... the sheer number of the teenagers is somewhat alarming to police investigators who say they have never seen anything quite like it before in their south bay quiet town... kron4's haaziq madyun shows you where the burglaries took place. . sotthat is what residents are saying about a group of teenagers who were captured on surveillance video roaming through this campell neighborhood near el patio court, the location of a pair of residential burglaries that took place monday october 30th at around 10amsot

berg/campbell police department: "as could be seen in the video some of the teenagers are leaving the area with some of the items that were taken. it appears that the suspects forced entry into the homes by breaking down a door and once they were inside they were able to take property and ransack the homes">the incident has residents here on high alert in this quiet neighborhoodsot campbell police are hoping others are watching out as well and may recognize someone in these videos, particularly the person holding this bagsotif you think you recognize someone in these videos campbell police would

(tele vo) tonight, as kron four's rob fladeboe reports, the family of the manwho died is speaking out. matthew haley/family's attorney "....we are looking forward to an independent court proceeding, we believe that an independent set of eyes will look at what happened and the truth will come out..." attorney matthew haley is talking about this. about the recently released santa clara police body cam video that shows the march 9th fatal shooting of 24 year old jesus geney-montez. capping a long standoff with geney-montez, whom police believed to be suicidal after stabbing himself, geney-montez was fatally shot by officer colin stewart. an investigation by the districts attorney's office found that the use of force was legally justifiable and that geney-montez charged and threatened him even though the video shows there was a fence between the two. it turned out that geney-montez was not armed. his family, which picketed outside the district attorney's office on thursday, has filed a federal civil rights lawsuit against the city of santa clara and officer stewart. again, matthew haley,matthew haley/plaintiff's attorney

"...we believe the video shows a young scared man who runs into a fenced area and the officer discharges his weapon, we believe there was no threat to the officer...." rob fladeboe/san jose"....santa clara police said they agree with with the report's findings. a spokesman for the da's office said it stands by it's report, adding that any contact with law enforcement ends in death is a tragedy." ( pam ) danville police are now asking for the public's help... with identifying three car burglars.

the car burglary happened on october 20th, but police just released this picture today the burglaries happened in the fountain springs area of danville. the suspects were last seen walking into a nordstrom rack store in concord. (pam) new tonight at six... a man was arrested today... and accused of in- appropriately touching a student at san jose state university. it happened just at around noon today .... inside the m-l-k library. police later arrested javiar coreas. the victim was not physically injured. university police are investigating the incident... and are currently looking for any additional victims or witnesses. ( steve ) park goers in san mateo county are warning their loved ones about going on the trail...after two woman were groped in the area. both cases happened at san bruno mountain state park. the first happened on october 22nd while the second happened on sunday. the man in both incidents snuck up behind the women, grabbed their rear and left. this is a sketch of

the man just released by deputies. he was last seen driving a car that looks like a light-colored 2009 mazda three hatchback. ( steve ) deputies are now warning the public to be aware of your surroundings and report anything that seems suspicious. (pam) tap water is being tested for lead at all schools in the oakland unified district.(steve) kron4's maureen kelly reports that testing kicked off today at five schools, including one where lead containmination was found eariler this year. elevated levels of lead was found at some fawcetts,

drinking fountains and showerheads at mccymond's high school by tests conducted at the district. officials then expanded the testing to their other schools and so far they've found 9 other school sites where lead was found to be higher acceptable levels.we know that is not in the piping system and therefore therefore we know it's nothing like flint the problem was in the older fixtures themselves.most have been replaced. the district spokeman says those that havent been yetwill be soon. they are out of commission and inaccessible to the students there is no problem with exposure to waterthat has any lead levels at all. we've made sure to test and find to find that we are in most cases non-detect which is under 5 ppb and certainly were under in any case where we've had any kind of remediation we now are under the epa level of 15 ppbat mcclymonds some students and staff are still a little skittish about drinking from the fountains.it's still a little hesitation and we do have the district has provided us with additional water supply so cute kids are mostly drinking out of that now

always be suspicious and ask lots of questions...they should ask to get a contractor's license number - which can then be checked. all contractors are required to wear a small pocket license card - and you can also ask to see that. to do contract work in a declared disaster area without a license is a felony. pam and steve? (pam) in the south bay... 12 people are without a home tonight .... including three children... after a fire broke out at a townhouse in san jose. it happened just before 6:00- in the morning... on don seville court. people in the townhouse had already evacuated the buildings by the time firefighters got there. fire crews were able to put out the blaze about an hour later. nine adults and three children were displaced from three housing units. no one was injured in the fire... the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

(steve) defense attorneys rested their case today in the trial for the man accused of killing kate steinle in san francisco. jose garcia zarate is accused of murdering accused of murdering steinle on pier 14 in 20-15. prosecutors have not presented a motive for the shooting...and are not required to prove that he meant to kill steinle. prosecutors áareá required to prove that he fired the gun intentionally. defense attorneys argue that the shooting was an accident. it that happened after zarate found and picked up the gun on the pier. the gun had been

stolen from a u-s bureau of land management ranger several days earlier. a big story we are following... eleven people remain hospitalized with wounds from the shooting at a small town texas church, where more than two dozen people were killed..

catherine heenan is here with the latest details.... including what's now expected to happen to the first baptist church of sutherland springs... (catherine) the pastor of the church that was the site of sunday's massacre now plants to demolishthe building.. he says it would simply be too painful to continue using the building as a place of worship...pastor frank pomeroy has been talking with southern baptist authorities....and has told them about his decision. there's talk of turning the site into a memorial for the more than two dozen people killed.a new church would be built on other property. meantime, the owner of a gun store in colorado springs says he's learned that the gunman - devin kelley - bought two guns at his store. he at first thought one of his employees had made a mistake....and called a staff meeting. jeff lepp says he

later found out that the air force made the mistake....by failing to notify the f-b-i that kelley had been convicted in 2012 of domestic violence. that crime should have prevented him from passing a background check...but the information was never shared by the air force. today for the first time - the air force is admitting it should have done that. neither of the guns bought at the colorado store was used in the shootings...butlepp says his staff is still shaken up - by 'any' connection to kelley. pam and steve?
