(marty) now to the east bay... where oakland police were out in force last night to crack down on a sideshow that drew hundreds of people. police want to prevent the injuries and even shootings we've seen happen at past sideshows. but-- kron4's ella sogomonian spoke with a man who has documented these events for

years... he defends sideshows as social events that need sanctioned spaces to keep going -- and keep safe. (screeching tires) people, music, and suped up cars. that's what sideshows are about says yakpasua zazaboi who filmed the risky stunts in east oakland more than a decade ago when they first gained popularity.sot: yakpasua zazaboi, sydewayz media // "it was a phenomenal thing to see literally thousands of black faces getting along in an area where essentially people said that type of stuff doesn't happen." saturday night oakland police deployed more officers and a helicopter in preparation for the illegal activity that could attract hundreds of people they say was promoted on social media. sot: "they're very dangerous of course they not only affect the people in the immediate areas but the community as a whole because it costs when there are injuries and property damage like that."there's been a comeback not only in oakland but in san jose where an officer was hurt a few weeks ago. and back in the east bay highways have been impacted by recent sideshows. zazaboi defends what he calls an east oakland pasttime saying it was

tag and a g-p-s tracker. authorities say it was released in the crystal springs area of san mateo county. (marty) there it goes. caltrans imploded the final two piers of the old eastern span of the bay bridge. piers e-17 and -18 -- were successfully demolished around seven thirty yesterday morning. but not without a hiccup. crews say a seal was spotted in the implosion zonecausing a slight delay until the animal was safely out of the area. work was slated to take place all weekend -- but cal-trans says it combined some demolition dates to finish ahead of schedule -- saving taxpayers nearly 10-million dollars. for your health this morning: mental exercise can be just as important as physical exertion when it comes to staying healthy. in today's health minute, kim hutcherson explores the health benefits of reading for pleasure. if you want to stay mentally fit reduce stress and have better relationships, try picking up a book. studies indicate reading can improve your life in many ways. reading can keep your brain sharp and youthful. studies have shown reading exercises the brain in a way viewing images does not. reading can slow age related cognitive decline. one study published by the national academy of sciences showed that older adults who read regularly or played mentally challenging games were two and a half times less likely to develop alzheimer's disease. reading can help control stress. a study by the university of

(marty) in the north bay... people whose homes survived the deadly north bay fires are now dealing with more problems... a water advisory has been issued for people in the fountaingrove neighborhood...one of the most heavily damaged areas of the fire. water officials say slightly elevated levals of contaminants were found in parts of that neighorhood. people are being advised not to use tap water for drinking and cooking. and officials say boiling or disenfecting the water will not make it

safe to drink. the santa rosa water department is flushing clean water through the system to fix the contamination. (marty) a navy veteran is finally in permanent housing after he and his extended family and friends lost their homes in the north bay fires. they say it has been incredibly emotional losing everything they have worked for. kron 4's hermela aregawi has their story about the long road to recovery. a tight knit community beginning to pick up the pieces after losing everything they know. quincy king/lost home in fireit's devastating. i mean it's not just devastating in look and in action but the whole idea is devastating that we are stripped of everything we loved. our lineage our history pictures, videos, mementos, jewelry, things that have major sentimental value gone. this was the house that quincy king and his wife called home for 25 years.it's now gone ..but they're hoping

to rebuild soon. quincy king/lost home in firei didn't have any emotions i couldn't believe what i was seeing it was the most surreal setting ive ever seeen its like walking into a tim burton movie, the colors the smoke, it was like i was looking at hiroshima. it was almost armagedon, apocalyptic in a sense. king's mom, best friends, cousin also lost their homes in the fire. quincy king/lost it hurt it was a pain ive never felt in my life he says.. they all support each other.. and work to stay positive.. as they slowly move forward quincy king/lost home in firethat was then and this is now and i have to move forward and be strong for (marty) u.s. citizenship and immigration services have teamed up with multiple catholic charities in santa rosa. to help residents who need new identification documents. representatives from the mexican consulate ..the d-m-v and federal and state agencies were all in santa rosa saturday. they spent the day helping people who are currently without their i.d's. many resident's documents were destroyed by the flames of the north bay firestorm.(sot) (marty) several santa rosa

( marty ) a man is in the hospital this morning after road rage turned violent. it happened on eastbound i-80 in fairfield, west of air base parkway. kron four's spencer blake has more about this highway shooting. the shooting saturday morning happened around here - i'm between travi boulevard and air base parkway, and this is eastbound traffic.(vo)it was just before nine a-m when c-h-p says someone in a gray s-u-v pulled up alongside a white toyota camry.someone in the s-u-v pulled out a gun at shot at the other car, hitting the driver.we don't know where the bullet hit him, but he was able to pull over.the passenger in his car was not hurt.public information officer dave harvey says though the bay area has had more than one hundred freeway shootings in the past two years, it's hardly been happening in solano county until now.(sot)"we're always prepared, and we have our eye out for something like this. we're prepared to handle these types of incidents. we do

receive a lot of training from our academy - not just because of the bay area but all of california."(vo)the suspect vehicle continued on with eastbound traffic.someone got a good enough glimpse to tell police that two black men were inside the s-u-v, but c-h-p is still looking for more potential witnesses.they say this could be a case of road rage.(reporter on cam)as for the victim, he had serious injuries, but is expected to survive.in fairfield, spencer blake, kron four news. ( marty ) in the east bay... three people are in jail this morning in connection with an armed robbery at a brentwood bank. 35-year-old donte davis, 29- year-old eddie starks, and 39- year-old maquetta sanders were all arrested on suspicion of armed robbery and conspiracy. police believe davis is the suspect who entered "the bank of agriculture and commerce community" on first street thursday afternoon. once inside officers say davis pulled out a gun, demanded cash, and left. a few hours later, police found the get-away car and arrested all

three suspects. police used surveillance video to confirm that starks and sanders were involved. ( marty ) in the north bay, police are investigating what they believe is a murder-suicide involving an elderly couple. it happened around 10-30 saturday morning on corte ramon in larkspur. authorities say a family member found the bodies of the 96-year-old woman and 74-year-old man. police say they found a gun at the scene. no other information has been released. ( marty ) many children in the north bay lost all their possessions in the wildfires last month... multiple fire departments teamed up to replace some of the items that were destroyed. kron four's jeff pierce show us they all got brand new bikes. in santa rosa saturday morning the marin county and southern marin fire departments hoped to bring a smile to children whose families lost everything in the north bay fires by replacing their childrens bicycles.we wanted to bring christmas a little early this year to the sonoma family and

help these people out, they've been through a lot and we wanted to put some smiles on the kids faces and kind of put some joy to their life right now.that was your bike dude, that was your first bike. oakland firefighter barry sanders, who lost his home in the fire, helped his son isaac find a replacement bicycle.it was a pretty nice bike, i really liked it but i'm glad they've got this open so we can get bikes here.for families that are facing the loss of their homes bringing something for their children was a small step in beginning their recovery.we lost bike and everything, we lost her tricycle and the bike, everything.they're so happy so it's really exciting that they're able to replace it and be able to get on their bikes. i'm probably going to ride it to school because one of our cars burnt down.it's their mode of transportation and it's the one thing we've heard overwhelmingly from parents who have lost their homes, their kids are devastated because they don't have their bikes they have no way to get around, to have fun and now

we're going to help these kids have fun again.the firefighters are asking for contributions so they can replace every bicycle lost in the fires.anything the community is still willing to help with we'd much much appreciate and we're taking bikes until there's no more bikes to give.marin firefighters gave out more than five hundreds bicycles saturday and plan to do the same for napa fire victims. in santa rosa jeff pierce kron four news. ( marty ) happening today -- hundreds of people will gather in sutherlands springs, texas to remember those who died after a deadly shooting rampage one week ago. first baptist church is opening its doors to the public today. officials say people will be able to visit a memorial for the victims. the church says the memorial was organized by volunteers, as part of a healing process for the community. while the crime scene will eventually be demolished, the sunday service will be held at a community center next door. at least 25 people died and another 20 people were injured in the ( marty ) also happening today. hundreds of people took to the streets of manila to protest president trump's

our veterans with parades and memorials and even sales. but vets face many other challenges once they come home. including unemployment, p-t-s-d, and depression. but this veteran's day weekend kron four's vicki liviakis introduces us to one young veteran - who says all vets want is a chance. for any soldier lucky enough to come home from the battlegrounds of iraq and afghanistan, it's a relief to take off the uniform.deano i like that i don't have to wear camouflage every day. colonel deano roberts served seven tours of duty. i'm never shy to tell folks that i've served for so long. today, he's switched out the camo gear for casual wear. someone like myself who was an apache helicopter pilot - did counter terrorism ... found myself at one of the most progressive and innovative companies in the silicon valley. hired by silicon valley start up - slack - to lead the global workplace and real estate team. glen evans and deano roberts q: you don't salute deano do you? glen does make me drop and do pushups on occasion. slack recuiter - glen evans says vets bring valuable skill sets to the workplace. we are absolutely seeking out

other members of the military. we have seven veterans now. deano that is just a testament to not only slack and the silicon valley but this country that these men and women are out there protecting and defending this right for me and for all veterans and for all citizens to choose my own destiny. deano still serves as a commander in the army reserves and has this advice to any service member who might be struggling to make the transition to civilian life. deano your experiences your skills are valuable. having the courage to reach out and ask for that assistance to have folks help you make that transition. service men and women have already made such a great contribution to this country - they have a whole second career to make a great contribution to these companies.deano really consider them. like thank them for their service but consider that right individual for that next important role on your team. its charming canals, but it's not the only dutch city with canal bragging rights. welcome to giethoorn. (heat- horn) where the best to way to explore the neighborhood is by renting an electric boat. along with homes there are some guesthouses, restaurants, and shops, but there's no traffic, because there's no roads in the village. just walking paths and the canals, so residents depend on boats and wheel barrows to bring in anything they need. vehicles have to be left in parking lots outside the center of the city. bridges allow pedestrians to move from one

side of the canal to another, and if you think they look un-usually high, you're right. back when farming was the way most families made their living, cows often had to be floated one place to another, so the bridges had to be high enough for a standing, floating cow to pass under. both of his legs were amputated. and he was'nt sure if he would get up on a horse again. but through a program called mare, he was able to get back to riding, with his new friend duke. ( marty ) mare partners with the wounded heroes fund to help veterans. it's not a traditional form of therapy but it has proven to work. mare employees say the program lifts spirits and helps people heal on different levels. ( marty ) in the east bay... three people are in jail this morning in connection with an armed robbery at a brentwood bank. 35-year-old donte davis, 29- year-old eddie starks, and 39- year-old maquetta sanders were all arrested on suspicion of armed robbery and conspiracy. police believe davis is the suspect who entered "the bank of agriculture and commerce community" on first street thursday afternoon. once inside officers say davis pulled out a gun, demanded cash, and left. a few hours later, police found the get-away car and arrested all three suspects. police used surveillance video to confirm that starks and sanders were involved. (marty) in the north bay... people whose homes survived the deadly north bay fires are now dealing with more problems... a water advisory has been issued for people in the fountaingrove neighborhood...one of the most heavily damaged areas of the fire. water officials say slightly elevated levals of contaminants were found in parts of that neighorhood. people are being advised not to use tap water for drinking and cooking. and officials say boiling or disenfecting the water will not make it safe to drink. the santa rosa water department is flushing clean water through the system to fix the contamination. spencer blake has more about this highway shooting. the shooting saturday morning happened around here - i'm between travi boulevard and air base parkway, and this is eastbound traffic.(vo)it was just before nine a-m when c-h-p says someone in a gray s-u-v pulled up alongside a white toyota camry.someone in the s-u-v pulled out a gun at shot at the other car, hitting the driver.we don't know where the bullet hit him, but he was able to pull over.the passenger in his car was not hurt.public information officer dave harvey says though the bay area has had more than one hundred freeway shootings in the past two years, it's hardly been happening in solano county until now.(sot)"we're always prepared, and we have our eye out for something like this. we're prepared to handle these types of incidents. we do receive a lot of training from our academy - not just because of the bay area but all of california."(vo)the suspect vehicle continued on with eastbound traffic.someone got a good enough glimpse to tell police that two black men were inside the s-u-v, but c-h-p is

( marty ) in the east bay... three people are in jail this morning in connection with an armed robbery at a brentwood bank. 35-year-old donte davis, 29- year-old eddie starks, and 39- year-old maquetta sanders were all arrested on suspicion of armed robbery and conspiracy. police believe davis is the suspect who entered "the bank of agriculture and commerce community" on first street thursday afternoon. once inside officers say davis pulled out a gun, demanded cash, and left. a few hours later, police found the get-away car and arrested all three suspects. police used surveillance video to confirm that starks and sanders were involved. ( marty ) in the north bay, police are investigating what they believe is a murder-suicide involving an

elderly couple. it happened around 10-30 saturday morning on corte ramon in larkspur. authorities say a family member found the bodies of the 96-year-old woman and 74-year-old man. police say they found a gun at the scene. no other information has been released. now.that was your bike dude, that was your first bike. oakland firefighter barry sanders, who lost his home in the fire, helped his son isaac find a replacement bicycle.it was a pretty nice bike, i really liked it but i'm glad they've got this open so we can get bikes here.for families that are facing the loss of their homes bringing something for their children was a small step in beginning their recovery.we lost bike and everything, we lost her tricycle and the bike, everything.they're so happy so it's really exciting that they're able to replace it and be able to get on their bikes. i'm probably going to ride it to school because one of our cars burnt down.it's their mode of transportation and it's the one thing we've heard overwhelmingly from parents who have lost their homes, their kids are devastated because they don't have their bikes they have no way to get around, to have fun and now we're going to help these kids have fun again.the firefighters are asking for contributions so they can replace every bicycle lost in the fires.anything the community is still willing to help with we'd much much appreciate and we're taking bikes until there's no more bikes to give.marin firefighters gave out more than five hundreds bicycles saturday and plan to do the same for napa fire victims. in

santa rosa jeff pierce kron four news. ( marty ) happening today -- hundreds of people will gather in sutherlands springs, texas to remember those who died after a deadly shooting rampage one week ago. first baptist church is opening its doors to the public today. officials say people will be able to visit a memorial for the victims. the church says the memorial was organized by volunteers, as part of a healing process for the community. while the crime scene will eventually be demolished, the sunday service will be held at a community center next door. at least 25 people died and another 20 people were injured in the shooting. where the best to way to explore the neighborhood is by renting an electric boat. along with homes there are some guesthouses, restaurants, and shops, but there's no traffic, because there's no roads in the village. just walking paths and the canals, so residents depend on boats and wheel barrows to bring in anything they need. vehicles have to be left in parking lots outside the center of the city. bridges allow pedestrians to move from one side of the canal to another, and if you think they look un-usually high, you're right. back when farming was the way most families made their living, cows often had to be floated one place to another, so the bridges had to be high enough for a standing, floating cow to pass under. ((wipe vo tape 4)) cg2= kinderdijk amsterdam day trip but if you have time to see just one thing.. head straight for the windmills of kinderdijk. most folks are surprised to learn that these windmills are actually homes, 15 of the 19 windmills are inhabited by millers, or persons tasked with operating a windmill to pump water and prevent the below sea level scenery from becoming submerged. two windmills are open to the public. the blokweer windmill, restored in 1975 and again in 1997 after a fire, is believed to date back to around 1500. using a series of staircases, visitors can climb to the top of the nederwaard windmill, peek in bedrooms, and take in views from the inside out. visitors can walk along a path that runs through the neighborhood of windmills, but the electrical sight-seeing boat tours come with not to be missed water views.
