(robin)in our top story this morning ... a plane crashed into a home in san jose ... injuring three people ... an instructor, a student, and another passenger. the plane was taking off from the reid-hillview airport ...when it crashed into the home on the 21-hundred block of evelyn avenue ... just 300 yards north of the airport. kron 4's hermela aregawi has more on the crash. (hermela aregawi)the three people on the plane were taken to a local hospital.one of the suffered major injuries while the other two suffered minor injuries.there were also some people in the back of the house.. but fortunately they were not hurt. six people are displaced after a plane nose dives into their home.the

crash happened at 3 in the afternoon.neighbors ran out to help.gilda masoni was sitting in the livingroom watching tv and i heard this big ol crash. i seen the plane inside of the garage of our neighborshouse there so i ran up there to see if there was anybody hurt and there was a young lady already out of the plane and she was trying to get a man out and i went up there to try to help her but i couldn't get the man out so a young man i don't know who it was came out and drug him out and the plane was leaking a lot of gasoline so i was asking somebody you guys have a hose we need to hose this down before it explodes or something because we couldn't get this man out about 40 gallons of fuel spilled from the planeso hazmat personnel were on site making sure that was cleaned up properly.the plane was registered to mclelland avation in san jose.and had been rented to the pilot, a repeat customer, by the hour. kristina alvarezit's crazy because you never see anything like this you see things like this on tv but not something in real life and i'm just

pretty shocked can't believe it. i know because there's an airport right here it can happen but to actually see it happen it's like no way. i hope everyone's okay (hermela aregawi) faa agents were on the scene collecting evidence.. to figure how this crash happened. reporting in san jose hermela aregawi. (robin) a daly city police officer is recovering from the injuries he got while chasing some suspected car burglars. kron four's spencer blake reports from the mall where it all started. it was hard to find a parking spot at serramonte center the weekend before thankgiving, making it a prime target for two guys who started breaking into cars.motorcycle officers with daly city police always have their bikes with them on shift."and they will respond to calls for service, so he was responding to the call of the subjects casing vehicles." the suspects drove off, and the officer on his bike

started chasing them north on 280 toward san francisco.the chase got going really fast, and the officer lost control and downed his bike."he was later transported and treated for injuries at san francisco general hospital. he is currently in stable condition." he should be fine, and his injuries were minor.the suspects ended up getting in a separate crash on the alemany off-ramp.from that point they hopped out and started running into san francisco's portola neighborhood.that's where s- f-p-d officer caught and arrested them."they're currently facing auto burglary and for evading officers for the pursuit."nobody else got hurt in any of the action.but police say the initial car burglaries at the mall should serve as a warning for everyone."we've paid particular attention to our malls and the parking lot areas. this is something that typically seems to happen during thanksgiving and christmas weekends and it appears it's just starting early this year."the suspects will be booked into the san mateo county jail.police say they plan on releasing their names on monday.in daly city,

(robin)people who have lost loved ones to reckless driving and car crashes ... turned grief into activism at city hall in san francisco. the group "walk s-f" says there have already been 17 pedestrian deaths this year in the city. they along with bay area families for safe streets marched to city hall ... to explain that speeding is a major factor in deadly crashes. the group ... along with state senator scott wiener who authored bill a-b-342 .... hope that california will pass the legislation that would introduce automated speed enforcement ... to help reduce crashes. (robin) happening now... the search is on for a man who is missing and was last seen on a boat that was spinning out of control near half moon bay. another boater was found dead nearby. the coast guard has identified the missing man as tom tran. the coast guard was notified about the spinning boat... near pillar point yesterday afternoon. for several hours, the coast guard was not able to approach the boat

because it is too dangerous. late last night they were finally able to recover the boat. (robin) in san leandro....polic e are looking for a gunman who shot and killed a man over the weekend. police say he man was trying to sell a cell phone when he was shot dead. the gunman still on the loose this morning. it happened saturday afternoon on east 14th street and 159th avenue-- near the bayfair center. the man died at the scene. police say the gunman drove away from the shooting. police have not released any other information about the gunman. (robin) happening today... attorneys will begin their closing arguments in the trial for the man accused of killing kate steinle on pier 14 in san francisco. now the judge is telling the jury that they can consider another charge in the case. jose garcia zarate is accused of intentionally shooting steinle in july of 2015. a judge has agreed to a prosecutor's request to allow the jury to not only consider the second degree murder charge... but also a 'first' degree murder charge. second degree

applies to murder that is deliberate... but not pre- meditated. first degree murder is pre-meditated. the prosecution has been trying to prove that zarate pointed a gun at steinle and deliberately pulled the trigger. the defense argues that the gun went off by accident. (robin) peak fire season ends today in santa clara alameda contra costa and the western ends of stanislaus and san joaquin counties. recent rains and cooler temperatures across the region have lowered the threat of wildfires. and to keep the threat of fires down... people should service home heating systems, clean chimneys, test smoke alarms, and carbon monoxide detectors. also happening today ... burn permit suspensions will be lifted in the 5 counties we just mentioned. meaning people with valid burn permits can resume burning on allowed burn days. (robin)moving on to the south bay ... fire investigators are trying to find the cause of an apartment fire that killed three members of the same family in san jose. the fire happened saturday ... and as kron 4's justine waldman reports ... another family member was critically injured.

currently have our arson investigators on scene for fire cause and origin of this incident."57:11 this is just a really, really devastating moment for everyone here in the neighborhood (robin) in the north bay... an inmate who escaped from a corrections camp in solano county turned himself in. authorities say 27-year-old rashad vaca turned himself in to the vacaville police department yesterday morning. he was discovered missing during the inmate count at the delta conservation camp saturday night. vaca was serving a 12-year sentence for second- degree robbery with a firearm and was scheduled for parole in 20-20. (robin) police arrested an attempted car theif in petaluma. police say they spotted 24-year-old tyler coon tampering with a car.... around 11 o'clock saturday night on western avenue.

the suspect tried to outrun officers but was captured at gunpoint. the victim identified coon as the suspect. he was arrested for tampering with a vehicle. (robin) and police also arrested a man in downtown petaluma after they say he pushed a security guard through a glass window at a bar. it happened late saturday night at mcguire's pub on kentucky street. there officers spotted the suspect 23-year-old hayden gregonis they sat he tried to punch the security guard before pushing him through a glass window.he was removed from the bar before the incident occurred. police also discovered that two other businesses in the area were vandalized but it's unclear if the incidents are connected. (robin)(boxes) 3-million dollars and 9-months later ... morgan territory road in contra costa county is reopened.the storm last winter caused a landslide that shut down a few hundred feet of the road.kron 4's ella sogomonian met with people who are thrilled by the news. a landslide badly damaged

suspected d-u-i crash in sonama that killed a mother and daughter. the best friend of the mother is speaking out after the seven-year-old girl involved in the crash passed away on friday ... three days after her mom. kron four's spencer blake has the story. in front of this salon in sonoma, former co-workers and clients of estefania soto have left dozens of momentos.among them are photos of her and her daughter kaliyah."they both had very vibrant personalities. bubbly. their presence was very known in any room they walked into."sierra sweeden has been estefania's best friend since kindergarten - more than 20 years.she and her family are still processing what happened tuesday morning on highway 12. police say jsoe lopez-perez was driving under the influence when he crossed over the yellow line and crashed head-on into soto's car.soto died in the wreck, and seven-year-old kaliyah passed

(robin)also in the north bay ... petaluma police arrested a 15-year-old boy for robbing a convenience store. authorities say the teen took alcohol, cigarretes, and lottery tickets... totalling more than a thousand dollars. it happened yesterday morning at the lucky's on petaluma boulevard north.a witness called police after seeing suspicious activity. when the officers arrived they found the boy in the parking lot.he was booked into juvenile (robin) san leandro police are telling the public to clean out their cars ... in an effort to curb increasing car burglaries. the warning

comes after officers say 12 auto thefts were reported last week. the thefts took place late at night in the west part of town. and all of them involved shattering a window. witnesses say they saw a late model dark-colored honda civic with angled taillights and paper plates reading " victory" in the area when the burglaries took place. (robin) bart's new 775-car fleet may not be in service by thanksgiving. bart is busy working on fixing problems that surfaced during a test run. earlier this month... the 10- car pilot train arrived at the bay fair bart station during an inspection run as it did the train automatically went into a mode that operated it as a three- car train, locking the doors to the trailing seven cars. the manufacturer for the cars says it has a fix. and bart is aiming to re-test the 10-car pilot train later this (robin) happening today ... safari west in sonoma county is scheduled to reopen. it has been closed since the

(robin) we are learning more about kevin neal... the man who went on a shooting rampage in tehama county last week. according to a neighbor... neal had threatened to kill one of his victims and go to an elementary school to kill the victim's son, too. the man says neal would scream at his neighbor across the road. police say neal killed 38- year-old danny elliott and elliott's mother, 68-year-old diana steele, in an apparent act of revenge on tuesday. neal also shot up the elementary school that elliott's son attends. he tried repeatedly to get into a classroom. he killed five people, including his wife... and wounded at least a dozen others before being shot and killed by police. ... if you bought fresh salad at trader joe's.three popular pre-packaged salads have been recalled because pieces of glass and hard plastic were found in them. they are the white meat chicken salad, curried white chicken deli salad, and turkey cranberry apple salad ... with the "best use by" dates from november 10th through november eleventh. trader joe's has since removed and destroyed all the affected products from store shelves.if you purchased any of these fresh salads with the affected codes-- you should throw it away immediately or return it to any trader joe's for a full refund. as of right now there are no reports of any one getting sick or injured.. (robin) honda is recalling about 800-thousand odyssey minivans....because of problems with latching their seats. the recall includes vehicles made between 20-11 and 20-17.... after 46 people were injured. the vehicle's second-row seats can be adjusted side-to-side or removed. honda says that

threatened to kill one of his victims and go to an elementary school to kill the victim's son too. the man says says neal would scream at his neighbor across the road. police say neal killed 38- year-old danny elliott and elliott's mother, 68-year-old diana steele, in an apparent act of revenge on tuesday. neal also shot up the elementary school that elliott's son attends. he tried repeatedly to get into a classroom. he killed five people, including his wife... and wounded at least a dozen others before being shot and killed by police. deputy is off the job after video shows him repeatedly punching a homeless man. this cell phone video... shows what happened after deputies and modesto police responded to calls of a man acting erratic near a shopping center. the video appears to show deputy taylor knight hit that man at least 8 times with another officer on scene eventually trying to pull him back. the stanislaus county sheriff's office would not comment on the incident. the deputy was placed on administrative leave while the incident is being investigated. people in their community. they have been holding the event for fourteen years. it becomes a more grand event every year and we are dedicated to do it. we work on average about fifteen hours a day leading up to it weeks before the event and we have to because we prepare about three thousand meals for people. the event has grown to give bags of groceries to prepare thanksgiving meals along with other gifts for those attending. we're also doing to go dinners, thanksgiving dinners to for seniors and people that we know are ill and disabled and are unable to get up and join us today. and it has expanded every year to clothing. there are items out there for children for women who need clothes for work. every day is a day of thanksgiving takes a whole year of preperation. when we end today we start planning for next year. we will start with donations from the community to support the meals for next year so it starts when we end at three. each passing year finds the need to be greater. you know there is a lot of stress in the united states right now. there's a lot of stress in our surrounding communities yet we have hope and we have joy and we want to share that. it is a hope and joy that is shared by both those attending and the dozens of volunteers that make the event a success. there's a lot of people out there like

morgan territory road in contra costa county is reopened. the storm last winter caused a landslide that shut down a few hundred feet of the road. kron 4's ella sogomonian met with people who are thrilled by the news. a landslide badly damaged morgan territory road last february. but construction couldn't start until summer. people who live or use to road to get around had to take alternate routes that pushed their commute to one hour longer than usual. saturday the road reopened after nine months worth of work.neighbors brought together by the inconvenience were so happy they threw a block party.sot: scott macintyre, lives on morgan territory road// "it's been an experience it was good to get all the neighbors together it brought us much closer together as a community a lot of inconvenience a lot of driving a lot of speed bumps everybody can attest to that. 18 speed bumps a day if you didn't forget anything and 36 if you did so we're glad it's over and we want to thank flatiron and everybody that was involved getting the road back open for us."flatiron contractors put in long hours excavating, reconstructing pavement, making improvements

a man in downtown petalumaafte r they say he pushed a security guard through a glass window at a bar. it happened at mcguire's pub on kentucky street. there officers spotted the suspect 23-year-old hayden gregonistry to punch the security guard before pushing him through a glass window. gregonis had been removed from the bar before the incident. police also discovered that two other businesses in the area were vandalized but it's unclear if the incidents are connected.
