neighborhood businesses... the "plaid friday weekend" officially kicked off in oakland today. mayor libby schaaf kicked off the shopping day in a ceremony today in the city's temescal district. more than 200 retailers and other businesses are participating in the oakland event which lasts until sunday. it gives shoppers an alternative to big-box retail stores and malls. area tomorrow will be mild to warm in some spots with highs in the 60s to mid 70s. the winds will be picking up in the afternoon near the coast and mountains. stormy expected late into sunday will be heavy at times with too. showers into monday morning clearing. dry expected through friday of next (vicki)a big rig driver has died from injuries he suffered during a traffic accident this morning on an east bay freeway (steve)california highway patrol investigators tell kron4's haaziq madyun that it appears the truck driver's seat belt was not connected at the time of the accident it was a deadly freeway collision involving the driver of this semi-truck tractor crashing into the center divide it happened just before 9am friday here on westbound interstate-80 at university avenue. investigators with the california highway patrol say

there was a blow out in front left tire, causing the truck to travel across the middle lanes into the carpool lane before crashing into center median right under the university avenue overpass. the driver was transported by ambulance to a local hospital with major injuries. he died a few hours later, an unfortunate outcome that may have been avoided if he was wearing a seatbelt says california patrol officer matthew hamer in terms of enforcing the seat belt law for truck drivers, he says the height of most big rigs presents a challenge the accident investigation and clean up tied up traffic for several hours. caltrans crews were on scene inspecting the structural integrity of the overpass. around noon the all clear was given to reopen all lanes. chp investigators are checking to see if speed was a

factor in this deadly collision. the truck driver's name is being withheld by the alameda county coroner at this time pending notification of next of kin...on the i-80 freeway in berkeley haaziq madyun kron4news (vicki) a woman had her laptop stolen right out of her hands by two juveniles on a bart train. it happened tuesday night at the fruitvale station. police say the woman was riding the train when the pair grabbed her computer and ran off. police have not yet released any information about the two suspects. (vicki) oakland police are on the hunt for the people responsible for two separate carjackings wednesday. the first incident happened around 9:40 a-m on macarthur boulevard near 99-th avenue. police say the driver suffered bruises when four people stole the car... authorities say a gun was involved in that carjacking. the second incident happened 5:50 p-m... on international boulevard near durant avenue. police say two people were involved in that carjacking.

( steve ) new at five... engineers will have to do more testing before they can add a suicide barrier to a span of the golden gate bridge. testing done last month shows it performed well with winds under 100 miles per hour. but the bridge became unstable when winds changed by one degree. one engineer says the spoilers that help keep the span stable need to be redesigned. officials also plan to add netting to the span to prevent suicides as well as have it seismically upgraded. (vicki) in world news tonight... at least 235 people were killed and more than 100 others injured at a mosque in egypt.(steve) the egyptian state-run media reported this appears to be the deadliest terror attack on egyptian soil. natasha chen explains nats: siren soundswitnesses say a deadly attack on an egyptian mosque started with an improvised explosive device going off.mosque worshipers then came outside, and gunmen fired at them. one witness said when worshippers stopped

(vicki) today british police responded to reports of an incident at the oxford circus subway station. that's one of london's busiest stations. transport police tweeted this afternoon that officers were on the scene. it's not clear exactly what happened... but witnesses say people were seen running into nearby shops and pubs. the station was evacuated police released a statement saying they have "not yet located any trace of suspects, evidence of shots fired or casualties". (steve) a rush of pot growers is dividing a northern california county the sierra nevada foothills. the calaveras county sheriff's department says they have their hands full cracking down on thousands of illegal farms in a county that has legalized cultivation for medicinal use. growers illegal and legal are increasingly open about their operations and starting to encroach on neighborhoods. there are an estimated 1,000 illegal farms in addition the hundreds with permits in a county with a population of just 44-thousand.

the sheriff's department says they are now trying to deal with the backlash from residents. ( steve ) oscar pistorius's prison sentence has more than doubled after he appealed the case. today, a supreme court of appeals in south africa decided to increase his prison time to thirteen years and five months. pistorius was originally sentenced to spend six years in prison for the murder of his girlfriend. the move by the court comes after prosecutors argued his original sentence was too lenient. pistorius is able to appeal the case again. (steve) a big story we are following tonight... there are still few answers in the death of a u-s border agent. agent rogelio martinez was killed and his partner was injured while responding to an unspecified event at the texas/mexico border last sunday. loved ones honoring martinez today. cnn's scott mclean reports from el paso, texas. scott mclean/el paso, tx: "this will be a tough day for the martinez family. the visitation for border patrol agent rogelio martinez will be held later on today, the funeral tomorrow at a nearby catholic church. i spoke rogelio's mother earlier this week. she said her son was a good man who was proud of his work. she also said he would call her every single day. this family is a very close family and what makes things especially difficult is that they don't have a very clear picture of exactly what happened to rogelio when he was killed. the governor of texas, greg abbott, said this was a murder. the border patrol union, they're calling it an ambush. but the fbi who is actually leading this

investigation will only call it a possible assault. what we do know is that agent martinez late saturday night was searching a culvert area along the interstate, about 30 miles from the mexican border, as part of his regular duties. what happened after that is unclear. but he, along with a second agent who arrived later, ended up being rushed to the hospital with head injuries and other broken bones. the second agent was released from the hospital, but we don't know his name, his condition, or whether he's spoken to investigators. we only know that he had eight years of experience. yesterday we also visited van horn. this is the town where those agents were first taken for treatment. it's about 12 miles from where this incident took place. everyone there seems to have heard a rumor or have a theory about what actually happened, but nobody knows for sure. one person told me that

authorities have made things unnecessarily mysterious and five days after this incident, it is still very much a mystery. scott mclean, cnn, el paso, texas." that can steal your personal information or lock the device until you agree to pay a ransom, according to a report by cybersecurity company riskiq.other bogus apps prompt users to facebook or gmail accounts, which can also reveal your sensitive information.while riskiq recommends only downloading apps from official app stores like apple and google, the firm notes that even apps on official stores can be potentially dangerous.be cautious of apps that ask for suspicious permissions, such as granting access to your contacts, text messages, stored passwords or credit card information. before downloading an app, riskiq also suggests taking a look at the developer. if it's not a brand you know, think twice before downloading."also, poor grammar in the description highlights the haste of development and the lack of marketing professionalism that are hallmarks of mobile malware campaigns," riskiq said in the report.

(steve) but the busiest shopping days of the year isn't going so smooth for amazon. more than 500 employees went on strike today... at the e-commerce giant's main distribution hub in italy. and in germany... about 25-hundred workers at several facilities didn't show up for work. it follows failed talks with amazon for better pay and working conditions. in addition... employees are refusing to work overtime until after christmas.

amazon says most of its employees did report to work today... and the company is committed to making sure customers receive their orders on time. ( vicki ) a worst nightmare came true for one retailer after its website crashed on black friday. this happened to lowe's this morning. the company says it had a temporary outage. the website came back up around 8 this morning. lowe's is not the first retailer to have its site crash during one of the

busiest shopping days of the year. target's website went down on cyber monday two years ago. and last year, the macy's website crashed on black friday. ( vicki ) j-c penney has changed its holiday coupon policy which has caused lots of confusion for customers. the retailer usually hands out coupons at the door on thanksgiving and black friday. these coupons have discounts up to five hundred bucks. but they can only be used ááafter black friday sales. this year...no coupons were handed today. instead-- they were handed out yesterday and again tomorrow. j-c penney says it changed this because it started having deals on thanksgiving through black friday. (catherine) oakland police are looking for at least four people... after two cars were stolen earlier this week. the two separate car-jackings happened wednesday the first incident happened around 9:40 a-m... on macarthur boulevard near 99-th avenue. police say four people stole that car... and a gun was involved. the owner was not shot....but was left with bruises. the second carjacking happened around 6-pm on international boulevard near durant avenue. police say two people were involved in that incident.

(steve) a woman's laptop was stolen right laptop was a woman's laptop was stolen right from her hands by two kids on a bart train. it happened tuesday night at the fruitvale station. police say the woman was riding the train when the pair young kids grabbed her computer and ran off. police have not yet released any information about the two suspects. (catherine) engineers have to do more testing before they can add a suicide barrier to the golden gate bridge. testing done last month shows it performed well with winds under 100 miles per hour. but the bridge became unstable when winds changed by one degree. one engineer says the spoilers that help keep the bridge stable need to be re-designed. there's also a plan to add netting....in another effort to prevent suicides. (steve) we are learning more about the incident at london's oxford circus subway station today. the british police want to talk to these two men.... authorities think there may have been an
